The paper presents results of analysis of influence of chosen parameters of induction cage motor on the component (1-2s)f0 in stator currents, which is commonly used for diagnosis of cage condition. The investigation concentrates on the influence of commonly available motor data such as pole-pair and rotor slot numbers, respectively, but also on relationships between resistances of cage bars and end rings. A reduced model of motor with a faulty cage is used, in which cage faults are represented by asymmetry coefficients of a cage. The main intention of the paper is to provide engineers with simple estimates of effects due to cage faults for various motors given limited information.

For an integer k ≥ 1, we say that a (finite simple undirected) graph G is k-distance-locally disconnected, or simply k-locally disconnected if, for any x ∈ V (G), the set of vertices at distance at least 1 and at most k from x induces in G a disconnected graph. In this paper we study the asymptotic behavior of the number of edges of a k-locally disconnected graph on n vertices. For general graphs, we show that this number is Θ(n2) for any fixed value of k and, in the special case of regular graphs, we show that this asymptotic rate of growth cannot be achieved. For regular graphs, we give a general upper bound and we show its asymptotic sharpness for some values of k. We also discuss some connections with cages.

The present article examines the connection between Cage’s politics and aesthetics, demonstrating how his formal experiments are informed by his political and social views. In 4’33’’, which is probably the best il- lustration of Cage’s radical aesthetics, Cage wanted his listeners to appreciate the beauty of accidental noises, which, as he claims elsewhere, “had been dis-criminated against” (Cage 1961d: 109). His egalitarian stance is also reflected in his views on the function of the listener. He wants to empower his listeners, thus blurring the distinction between the performer and the audience. In 4’33’’ the composer forbidding the performer to impose any sounds on the audience gives the audience the freedom to rediscover the natural music of the world. I am arguing that in his experiments Cage was motivated not by the desire for formal novelty but by the utopian desire to make the world a better place to live. He described his music as “an affirmation of life – not an at- tempt to bring order out of chaos nor to suggest improvements in creation, but simply a way of waking up to the very life we’re living, which is so excellent once one gets one’s mind and desires out of its way and lets it act of its own accord” (Cage 1961b: 12).

Opis:
Induction squirrel cage motors used in many industrial drives, even of high capacity, are started by switching direct on line. Starting current, several times higher than nominal load current, causes thermal and mechanical, dynamic stresses dangerous for motor's structure. Both, stator and rotor windings are endangered at starting period, but stresses in rotor cages are usually higher, therefore proper rotor design (and its manufacturing process) is of high importance for motor's durability. Examples given in the paper show, that even standard motor with new, special, redesigned rotor can withstand as many as 70.00 long lasting starts, executed by switching the motor direct on line.

This study presents a method to directly calculate the stator current Fourier spectra in double-cage induction motors to diagnose faults in rotor cages. A circuit model is developed for this purpose, allowing the modelling of any asymmetry in the outer and inner rotor cages. The model extends the conventional model of a cage motor by considering the higher space harmonics generated by the stator windings. The asymmetry of the cages is modelled by growing the resistance of any of the rotor bars. This results in various model equations, to be solved by looking for diagnostic signals. Motor current signature analysis is typically used to diagnose cage motors based on the Fourier spectra of the stator currents during steady-state operation. This study determines these spectra for double cage motors using the harmonic balance method, omitting the transient calculations. The calculation results confirmed the sensitivity of the stator current Fourier spectra as a diagnostic signal to distinguish faults in the outer and inner cages.

This paper discusses ways out of an approach adopted in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, which I refer to as instrumental rationalism (pl. racjonalizm instrumentalny). It was to determine, inter alia, the place occupied by humans within an organization construed as a machine in the self-proclaimed modern era. It is one in which the substance of what we refer to as “here and now” is determined by rationality, functionality, utility, usability, effectiveness and effciency. This approach was best captured by Max Weber’s metaphor of the “iron cage” (German “Stahlhartes Gehause”, translated as “iron cage” by Talcott Parsons), although Weber himself refers to “like a light cloak, which can be thrown away any moment [...] shell as hard as steel” (Weber, 1994, p. 181).

A (k, g)-graph is a k-regular graph of girth g. Given k ≥ 2 and g ≥ 3, infinitely many (k, g)-graphs of infinitely many orders are known to exist. Our goal, for given k and g, is the classification of all orders n for which a (k, g)-graph of order n exists; we choose to call the set of all such orders the spectrum of orders of (k, g)-graphs. The smallest of these orders (the first element in the spectrum) is the order of a (k, g)-cage; the (k, g)-graph of the smallest possible order. The exact value of this order is unknown for the majority of parameters (k, g). We determine the spectra of orders for (2, g), g ≥ 3, (k, 3), k ≥ 2, and (3, 5)-graphs, as well as the spectra of orders of some families of (k, 4)-graphs. In addition, we present methods for obtaining (k, g)-graphs that are larger then the smallest known (k, g)-graphs, but are smaller than (k, g)-graphs obtained by Sauer. Our constructions start from (k, g)-graphs that satisfy specific conditions derived in this paper and result in graphs of orders larger than the original graphs by one or two vertices. We present theorems describing ways to obtain ‘starter graphs’ whose orders fall in the gap between the well-known Moore bound and the constructive bound derived by Sauer and are the first members of an infinite sequence of graphs whose orders cover all admissible orders larger than those of the ‘starter graphs’.

Do badań użyto silnika indukcyjnego typu 90L-4 o mocy 1,5 kW i prędkości synchronicznej 1500 rpm z wirnikami o różnym stopniu uszkodzenia klatki wirnika. Zbadano wpływ uszkodzeń klatki wirnika na przyrost temperatury stojana i wirnika, przebieg momentu oraz poślizg silnika.

The universal mathematical model of cage induction motor must assure all possible kinds of motor operation. There are two the most important: operation at different sequences of supplying voltages or currents causing different no load speeds and operation with open-circuited phases caused by supplying converter or the machine damage. The first feature is bound with a real stator winding producing a spectrum of magneto motive force (MMF) and the second with modelling of current flow breaks. Such a model can be also used for modelling the ideal multiphase motor with sinusoidally distributed windings. This is the subject of this paper. The mathematical model has been developed from the description in symmetrical components. That allowed for designation of model parameters and space vectors defining. This model can be presented as the equivalent circuit for transient states and this circuit can be used for circuit oriented simulators (Spice, Simulink/SimPowerSystems, Saber, TINA etc.). As a consequence the mathematical model can be a background for training of different control strategies and determination of mechanical characteristics. The use of model has been illustrated by an example.

The aim of the article is to trace the concept of the “iron cage of capitalism” attributed to one of fathers-founders of sociology, Max Weber. The author presents the origin of the concept – a controversial decision of Talcott Parsons, a famous sociologist and the first translator of Weber’s work The Ethics of Protestantism and the Spirit of Capitalism into English. Moreover, the presence of the “iron cage” in selected translations and original works in Polish and English is discussed.

The article is an attempt to discuss Małgorzata Wojcik and Rafał Żak’s book Cisza and place it in a wider context. The analysis of this work, dealing with different faces and meanings of silence, becomes a point of departure for a wide-ranging story about the significance of silence in the 20th century art, as well as about the necessity of posthumanist perception of silence. The key context for the proposed argument is John Cage’s piece 4,33’’ and the reflections accompanying the American composer during his creation of the work. The latter ones are essential not only for the author of this article but they also constitute a leading motif of the analysed book.

Artykuł przedstawia dwa aspekty badań i twórczości muzycznej meksykańskiego kompozytora i muzykologa Julio Estrady (ur. 1943): ideę indeterminizmu i macro timbre, na podstawie analizy cyklu utworów zatytułowanych yuunohui’ehecatl. Przejawy indeterminizmu w muzyce Julio Estrady pojawiły się w 1968 roku, kiedy kompozytor zetknął się z muzyką Johna Cage’a oraz jego radykalnymi propozycjami, kwestionującymi tradycyjne wartości. Obszarem eksploracji Estrady, zainspirowanych rozwiązaniami Cage’a wpływającymi na finalną postać kompozycji, było eksperymentowanie z elementarną materią muzyczną. Estrada stworzył własne laboratorium eksperymentalne, którego naczelną ideą była „inkluzywność”. Polegała ona na integrowaniu utworów z różnych cykli w celu stworzenia takiego dzieła, które oferowało możliwość uzyskania nowych brzmień instrumentalnych. Ta metoda komponowania muzyki została w pełni zastosowana dopiero w cyklu yuunohui, na który w roku 2021 składa się osiem cykli kompozycji przeznaczonych na instrumenty solowe oraz dwa cykle na zespół kameralny. Począwszy od roku 1983, w centrum zainteresowania Estrady znalazła się kategoria macro timbre, odnosząca się do ukształtowania cech i jakości dźwięku w procesie twórczym. Po ponad 30 latach eksperymentowania w tym zakresie Estrada rozszerzył swoje rozumienie macro timbre do etapu realizacji dzieła muzycznego, tj. wykonania na żywo. Ten sposób podejścia do macro timbre pozwala instrumentalistom z absolutną swobodą kreować własną ekspresję dzieła muzycznego. W cyklu kompozycji yuunohui’ehecatl wykonawca otrzymuje od kompozytora po raz pierwszy tekst muzyczny daleki od norm ustanowionych w tradycji muzycznej. Zastosowany w utworze materiał muzyczny, a także struktura macro timbre otwierają nową perspektywę interpretowania semantyki i ekspresji tego dzieła muzycznego, którą autor określa jako „naśladowanie prehistorycznej natury w akcie stwarzania yuuhonui’ehecatl”.

We describe some new applications of nonabelian pq-groups to construction problems in Graph Theory. The constructions include the smallest known trivalent graph of girth 17, the smallest known regular graphs of girth five for several degrees, along with four edge colorings of complete graphs that improve lower bounds on classical Ramsey numbers.
