Opis:
Introduction. Among patients with asthma, a lot of attention is being given to, at the present time, to such comorbidity as excessive body mass (EBM) or obesity. Aim. To evaluate the level of IgA in patients with bronchial asthma against the background of excessive body weight or obesity and to evaluate the effects of drug on the bacterial lysate and inosine pranobex. Material and methods. According to the design, the study was conducted in two stages: the first stage – examination of 105 patients with asthma. 105 patients with a basic diagnosis of asthma were examined whose average age was 41.19 ± 1.05 years, 75 patients were found to have EBM or obesity (BMI 31.67 ± 0.53) who were included in the main group and 30 patients with NBMI (BMI 22.13 ± 0.32), which were the comparison group. Results. The patients in the main group with a severe course had significantly lower serum IgA values than the patients in the comparison group (p<0.05), but the statistically significant difference between this index in the patients with a severe course in the main group and the control group was not revealed. The patients in the main group had a significant increase in the level of secret IgA against the background of the use of treatment-and-prophylactic complex (TPC) with the inclusion of a preparation of bacterial lysate in combination with inosine pranobex against the background of training in asthma school, receiving the basic treatment (p<0.05). Conclusion. Patients with asthma who have large BMI have a more severe course of bronchial asthma. A Correlation relationship was established in the group of patients with bronchial asthma and with excessive body weight or obesity between the level of sIgA and the severity of the asthma course; there is a direct strong correlation. Patients in the main group had a significant increase in the level of sIgA against the background of the use of TPC with the addition of a basic treatment by the preparation of bacterial lysate together with inosine pranobex.

Opis:
Quantitative expressions are presented describing the effects of temperature and food concentration on the mean body weight of copepodite stages of Pseudocalanus spp. The calculations were made on the basis of experimental data from the literature for three geographically separate populations of Pseudocalanus from Puget Sound (Washington, USA), from the southern North Sea and the Baltic Sea. Relationships were obtained between the coefficient of daily exponential growth of body weight of Pseudocalanus sp. from Puget Sound and temperature in the 8–15.5◦C range and food concentrations from 10 mgC m−3 to excess, as well as for Pseudocalanus elongatus from the southern North Sea at high food concentrations and in the 4–15◦C temperature range. Also computed was the mean body weight for stages CII to CV of P. elongatus from the southern Baltic Sea at 5◦C. The empirical models presented here can be used with good precision in mathematical models of pelagic communities. The results presented here indicate that Pseudocalanus sp. from Puget Sound (a species resembling Pseudocalanus minutus) is similar to P. elongatus from the southern North Sea and the English Channel with respect to growth parameters in the studied range of temperatures for excess food. P. elongatus collected in the Baltic Sea (Gulf of Gdańsk) differs from P. elongatus from the southern North Sea.

Opis:
Parasites are the most common cause of disease in European roe deer (Capreolus capreolus), but prevalence of some invasions was smaller after a dry and hot summer. In the years 2015−2016, which were distinguished by exceptionally high temperature during summer months, the presence of nematodes and protozoa was assessed in the digestive tract of roe deer in western Poland. Studies confirmed that weather conditions may reduce gastrointestinal parasite prevalence in roe deer. In 2016, coccidiosis was not found in the examined species at all and in 2015 – it was rarely recorded. The reason for that could be the oocyst high exposure to sunlight as well as their drying as a consequence of high temperature and low precipitation. Such weather conditions also negatively affect other parasites when they are outside the host. Favourable environmental conditions for parasites probably occur more often in the forest than in the field, hence some gastrointestinal nematodes in the hot period were recorded only in roe deer in forest areas.

The cause of problems associated with overweight is often lack of persistence, ineffectiveness in the diet maintaining and uncontrollable overeating. Loss of excessive body weight is not easy goal to reach. The same feature refers to as well as implementation of all activities, which effects are delayed in time. Undertaking an activity that will have to be maintained for a longer time requires not only initiation step, but also perseverance, which supports the achievement of the goal. Beside perseverance the mental simulations of the result and process are important too. The aim of the research was analysis of correlations between the type of mental simulations and the normal body mass or overweight in study group.

Opis:
Introduction: Obesity is an unfavorable state of health as a result of which come in the initial adaptation, that could gradually transform into specific disease condition. Objectives: The aim of the study was to assess the degree of middle-aged men adaptation to obesity in terms of somatic changes, exercise capacity and cardiopulmonary fitness. Materials and Methods: The study involved 12 obese middle-aged men (OG) - BMI = 34.32 ± 4.11 kg/m2. The control group (CG) consisted of 12 non-obese middle-aged men- BMI = 23.72 ± 1.83 kg/m2,with similar body height (BH) to OG. After recording somatic and physiological data at rest, participants were subjected to the bicycle ergometer test (BT) gradually increasing intensity. During the BT aerobic power (AP) was recorded and analyzed along with parameters characterizing the efficiency of the circulatory and respiratory systems at anaerobic threshold (AT) and the maximum load (ML). Results: This study has shown that obese men have a higher body mass (BM), a higher content of fat (BF), an increased lean body mass (FFM) and a higher content of water (TBW) than CG (p <0.001). Absolute and relatively expressed in relation to the FFM respondents’ values of AP and VO2 were similar in both groups and after taking under the consideration the body weight, they were significantly lower in OG than in the CG. Furthermore, adverse effects have been observed that emerged on some cardiovascular and respiratory variables at rest in case of OG; these effects did not occur during physical exertion. Conclusions: Beyond negative changes occurring obesity in the first stage led to favorable somatic adaptation that entails an increase of FFM in OG, which gives a positive impact on the capacity of physical work of obese men and produces a beneficial effect on the resulting compensation impairment in the respiratory and circulatory systems of these subjects.

Opis:
The aim of this study was verification whether an 8-week-long swimming exercise training would induce adaptive changes in body weight in rats and whether possible changes would depend on aquatic environment temperature and animal sex. The exercisetrained groups swam 4 minutes a day, five days a week during eight week of housing. Exercise was performed by swimming in glass tanks containing tap water maintained according to group at 5 ±2°C (cold group) and 36 ±2°C (thermal neutral group). Before and after each week of the experiment, rats were weighed. When comparing the nature of changes in the body weight of rats exposed to swimming exercise training in cold water, attention should be paid to their dependence on sex. There were statistically significant changes in the nature of changes in body weight between male rats and female rats of the cold group (5°C) as early as experimental week 2 until the end of the experiment (p < 0.001). Interestingly, the females exposed to swimming exercise training at 5°C were the only group in which an increase in body weight occurred during experimental week 8 in relation to baseline values.

Opis:
Weight of body, carcass and internal organs as well as paranephric fat index (KFI) as the individual condition indices of the brown hare (Lepus europaeus) in eastern Poland. The conducted examination on the individual condition of the brown hare was based on animals obtained by means of group hunting in the western part of the Lublin district in eastern Poland. The weight of body, carcass and internal organs as well as paranephric fat index (KFI) was estimated and compared for separate age and gender groups. The body weight of young hares at the level of just over 4.0 kg and adults amounting to 4.7 kg is higher than in other parts of Poland as well as in the Lublin region compared to previous years. High individual condition is also confi rmed by the KFI index, which amounted to 3.6 and was high for this time of year. Carcass mass of acquired hares, which is labeled by means of “slaughtering capacity” (percentage ratio of meat carcass weight with internal parts to live weight of the slaughtered animal), at a level slightly exceeding 60% should be considered as average for the species. Somewhat discomposing are the results regarding the lower mass of internal organs; in particular heart and lungs. Those organs condition the possibility of signifi cant locomotive effort, which consequently plays a very important role in emergency situations when the basic defence reaction of a hare is to escape quickly. Obtained results indicate that the hare population in the western part of the Lublin region is characterized by quite high indicators of individual quality, which should have a positive impact on survivability and reproductive potential of the population. Correlation coeffi cients between body weight and the weight of internal organs were in most cases, except for adult hares, high and statistically signifi cant.

Opis:
The aim of the paper was to evaluate the effect of the birth body weight of the piglets on their productivity and survivability up to the age of 10 weeks. The observations covered the piglets born by 11 sows F1 of Polish Large White × Polish Landrace, inseminated by the semen of the boras (Duroc × Pietrain). The piglets were weighed on 1st, 21st, 35th and 70th day of life and the feed intake (per litter) was controlled. Depending on their birth body weight, the piglets were classifi ed into two groups: light (L) <1.5 kg (n = 52), heavy (H) ≥1.5 kg (n = 60). The mean general body weight of the piglets on 1st, 21st, 35th and 70th day was equal to 1.45, 5.09, 7.70 and 14.18 kg, respectively. In the groups, it was as follows: L – 1.17, 4.58, 6.91 and 13.00 kg; H – 1.70, 5.51, 8.29 and 15.12 kg, respectively (L–H, P ≤ 0.001). The deaths of the piglets in groups L and H amounted to 15.4 and 6.7%, respectively. In the situation of a free access of the progeny to mother’s feed and solid feedstuff, the obtained results indicate that the worse productivity, as expressed by lower feed conversion (by 10.5–16%), slower growth rate (by 12–20%) and lowered survivability (by 8.7 percentage points) of the piglets from groups L vs. group H, were the effect of considerably lower body weight of the newborn piglets as compared to their mean body weight
Średnia masa ciała wszystkich prosiąt w 1., 21., 35., i 70. dniu wyniosła: 1,45; 5,09; 7,70; 14,18 kg, a w grupach odpowiednio: L – 1,17; 4,58; 6,91; 13,00 kg oraz H – 1–70; 5–51; 8–29; 15–12 kg (L–H, P ≤ 0,001). Upadki prosiąt grup L i H wyniosły 15–4 i 6–7%.
