This article presents the religious aspects of the community of emigrants from the British Isles, mainly Scots, in Gdańsk. They tried to provide for their religious needs already in the Middle Ages, as evidenced by the existence of chapels and altars in some of the churches in Gdansk. After the success of the Reformation, mainly Scottish Presbyterians settled in Gdansk. Clergymen from their home country were brought in for their ministry. Both the Presbyterian clergy and the wealthy Scottish merchant elite of this denomination ruled the sacred building acquired in 1707, called the English Church. However, only few of the Presbyterians living in Gdansk identified with this building - according to legal arrangements, having the character of an “ethnic” temple - together with the Anglicans. Most Scots - by entering into family relationships - slowly melted into the community of the city on the Motława, using other Calvinist facilities. In addition to Presbyterians and very few Anglicans and Catholics there, English radicals, Chialists and Quakers, also tried to settle in Gdansk, but the city's unfavourable legislation and deterrent actions effectively prevented this transfer.

Über Bertha Pappenheim (1859–1936) wird auf zweierlei Art und Weise berichtet, und selten gelingt es, ihre zwei Geschichten in ein Personenleben zusammenfließen zu lassen. Zunächst wird über ihre Jugend in Wien geschrieben, als sie eine hysterische, „indirekte“ Patientin von Sigmund Freud war. Freud sollte anhand der Berichte über ihren Fall und der von ihr selber entwickelten Heilmethode, die Psychoanalyse als Therapie entdeckt haben.

Opis:
Croatian Romanticism uses a multitude of Judeo-Christian motifs. Kranjčević’s Moses enters into a direct dialogue with God, who is not only a distant transcendental authority, but also a concrete being who responds to the people’s cries. When Moses indicates dissatisfaction with his people’s slavery, God reciprocates with both words and actions. The objective of this article is to look at thedialogues between man and God in the poem Moses in order to contribute to the research of the theme of communication between man and God in Croatian romantic poetry. The main subject of the poem is Moses, who is culturally more relevant for Judaism than for Christianity; his contribution in the Bible is connected to the struggle and active liberation from slavery. Unlike Christianity, Judaism affirms a revolutionary Messiah. In this poem, Moses is the prototype of a universal man in search of God, whereas communication is a prerequisite for solving individual and collective problems.

The former Jewish quarter (16th to 20th century) of Nowy Wiśnicz (henceforth: Wiśnicz, Yid. ווישניצא Vischnitsa) has so far only been mentioned on a few occasions and with little precision, in the books by Stanisław Fischer (1927/28), Mieczysław Książek (1976, 1979, 1988, 1990), and Adam Bartosz (1992). The last decades saw a handful of publications regarding this subject. The first one to touch upon it was Iwona Zawidzka, who described the cemetery and gave a brief account of the town’s history. She was followed by Elżbieta Ostrowska, who focused on relations between Christian and Jewish inhabitants of the town from the 17th to the 19th centuries. Adam Bartosz, Stanisław Fischer, Mieczysław Książek and Iwona Zawidzka incorrectly ascribed the lack of any photographic record of both synagogues and the public buildings to having been demolished by Germans during the Nazi occupation. I. Zawidzka1 mentions an essay by Julia Goczałkowska2 in which the author describes what she refers to as the Wiśnicz “Jerusalem.”

Improvisation through the perspective of correspondence between the arts, that is on the romantic beliefs The article is devoted to the phenomenon of improvisation which is a characteristic aesthetic feature of the Romantic culture. Many nineteenth century artists regarded it as an embodiment of the issues that were of key importance for their period – among them, one finds the concept of genius or correspondence between the arts. On a few examples taken from the works of Chopin, Mickiewicz and Orłowski, the author reveals both the ways and the conditionings of the reception of the improvisory works, as well as the relations between the Romantic myth of improvisation and its artistic practice.

The article re-evaluates the dominating view of the clearly negative relationship between two writers, Sienkiewicz and Zola. It presents the implications of Sienkiewicz’s 1878 visit to France, and further, it reconstructs his opinions that chronologically coincided with Zola’s greatest popularity. The text provides an analysis of Sienkiwicz’s remarks on Zola’s style, and it proves further that his naturalism did, in fact, help Sienkiewicz develop his own literary technique. Finally, the Polish author’s long-term interest in Zola’s writing certainly demonstrates his fascination with this famous literary persona.

The paper approaches an important issue of the phonological similarity of words, relevant for current research in phonotactics, word recognition, production and acquisition, by analyzing the data collected in an experiment in which 30 native speakers of Polish were asked to provide phonologically similar words to 80 nonwords. The study demonstrates that the uncovered patterns of phonological similarity (segment substitutions, deletions and additions, the use of bigrams, trigrams and quadrigrams, noncontiguous sounds and segment metathesis) go beyond the commonly employed concept of neighbourhood density and point to the need to revise the current approaches to phonological similarity of words. It is argued that the experimental results can be attributed to the considerably more complex phonotactic and morphological structure of Polish than English.

This article analyses the role o f religious feelings concerning the regulation of the relations between spouses and between parents and children. According to the author, the term “religious feelings” should be distinguished from the term “freedom of conscience and belief’ which belongs to the personal rights. The view that religious feelings are also the personal  ights but of the subordinate nature must be rejected. The violation of religious feelings could be conceded as a reason for the breakdown o f marriage. Examining such violations, the subjective aspects should be taken into account. Parents are allowed to violate the personal rights of children connected with the religion when they are exercising their own rights deriving from parental authority or the right to upbringing children in a manner consistent with their own convictions. The unlawfulness of such actions is excluded because parents are acting in compliance with the law.

W artykule przedstawiona została próba wskazania płaszczyzny dyskusji ewolucjonistów z kreacjonistami, która umożliwiałaby dialog zwiększający szansę wypracowania spójnego światopoglądu łączącego elementy wiedzy naukowej i wiary religijnej. W odniesieniu do różnych typów wiedzy zaproponowane zostało wyróżnienie trzech poziomów: 1) przedmiot badań, 2) wiedza o tym przedmiocie, 3) interpretacja tej wiedzy. Dialog może być prowadzony już na poziomie drugim, lecz z poszanowaniem wzajemnej autonomii i ukierunkowaniem raczej na inspirację, niż na integrację. Właściwą płaszczyzną dialogu jest poziom trzeci: interpretacja wiedzy oraz budowanie wizji świata i człowieka. Celem dialogu na tym poziomie jest integracja wszystkich elementów światopoglądu i dążenie do wyjaśnienia i zrozumienia całej rzeczywistości.
This article seeks to indicate a platform for discussion between evolutionists and creationists, which will enable dialogue and increase the chance of developing a coherent worldview that combines elements of scientific knowledge and religious faith. In the context of various types of knowledge, three levels are indicated: (1) the subject of research, (2) knowledge of this subject, and (3) interpretation of this knowledge. Dialogue can be undertaken and conducted already at the second level, but only accompanied by both respect for mutual autonomy and a focus on inspiration rather than integration. The appropriate level of dialogue is the third level: the interpretation of knowledge and building an overarching view of the world and man. The aim of dialogue at this level is to integrate all elements of a worldview and to strive to explain and understand the whole reality.

The conquest of the Near East by Alexander of Macedon began a new era in the history of this region. This pregnant event was quite differently perceived and judged by contemporaries in conquered lands, Palestine among them. To those, the Macedonian's victory over the Persians meant little more than one hegemonist replacing another. It must have been with concern, or perhaps with hope, that they awaited possible changes under the new political arrangement. We know little about Alexander's direct rule over Palestine, but the historical evidence we have suggests that the behavior of local populations in the area did not always meet the expectations of Macedonian conquerors. One example may be seen in the attitude of the Jerusalem Temple's high priest, who, despite Alexander's superiority at arms, firmly declared his loyalty to the Persian king (Jos. AJ 11, 317-319), while some in Samaria's elites chose to follow their self-interest and did not hesitate to join the conqueror (Jos. AJ 11, 321-324, 340-345). Although local elites and communities declared their willingness to cooperate with the Macedonian monarch, there were no avoiding tensions and conflicts between locals and newcomers. One such instance was a mutiny in Samaria city against the Macedonians, during which the Syrian governor Andromachus was killed. In retaliation, the rebellion was quenched in blood and Macedonian settlers were brought into Samaria.

This article tries to find the answers to the following questions: Can one find, in the Rabbinic writings (the Tosefta, Jerusalem Talmud and Babylonian Talmud), some texts that refer to Jesus and His followers? What is their nature? Do they include anti-Christian undertones and constitute a specific Rabbinic anti-gospel: the rabbis’ well-thought and thorough reaction to the content included in the Gospels? The author in his answers used the detailed research presented in his latest monograph entitled Jesus and His Followers in the Talmud. A Textological, Historical and Sociological Analysis, Lublin 2013. His investigation leads him to the conclusion that in Talmudic narratives Rabbis created a specific anti-gospel which was initially transmitted verbally and then written down in various contexts of their works. The aim of this anti-gospel is to challenge the authority of Jesus of Nazareth as the Son of God and the Messiah from the house of David. Rabbinic narratives wish to show in a clear way that Jesus must not usurp any messianic and divine prerogatives. In the earlier times rabbis warned Jewish community against magic power and the attractiveness of the doctrine advocated by heretics. Subsequent rabbis showed the weakness and stupidity of heretical teaching, whose contradictions and lack of logic were easy to disprove by making use of proper argumentation. Jewish sages wished to prove the superiority of the Rabbinic doctrine and the biblical presentation they offered, over the Christian faith.

After the fall of the November Uprising, the Russian authorities liquidated the University of Warsaw. As a result, the University employees were forced to take up other occupations. Some of them went to male government secondary schools as pedagogical supervisors (principals and inspectors), or teachers. This group numbered 18 people. The functions of principals were performed by two people, the functions of inspectors – by six, the remaining ten found employment as teachers. The period of their employment in secondary education varied widely: from 1 year to over 25 years. On average it was just over nine years. Among the teachers, four taught the humanities, the others taught mathematical and natural sciences. Many members of the described community decided to continue their scientific work. Particular achievements in mathematics were held by A. Frączkiewicz, and I in the field of physics and chemistry – by J. Bełza, A. Radwański, T. Rybicki and S. Zdzitowiecki. Achievements in biological research were noted by W. B. Jastrzębowski, Sz. Pisulewski and A. Waga (interestingly, he taught Polish language and literature in secondary school). Some achievements in the field of the humanities were held by A. Kucharski and F. Kozłowski. The above-mentioned employees of the University of Warsaw significantly strengthened the teaching staff of male government secondary schools in the Kingdom of Poland between 1833 and 1862.

Source literature lists several versions of creationism as well as numerous manners of understand- ing evolutionism. Creationist views may be limited to four basic ones: fundamentalist creationism, creation science, intelligent design and evolutionary creationism. In my article I will justify which of these versions of creationism may be considered as dialoguing with science, and which of them turn out, to a greater or lesser degree, unable to enter into this dialogue. I will answer the question how creationism should be understood in order for it to be able to engage in a debate with modern science. In other words, the central question of this article will be: how is the dialogue between religion (creationism) and science (evolutionism) feasible?

Research background: Energy policy is closely linked to economic development. Therefore, its optimization is an important issue especially in the contemporary European environmental conditions.  EU regulations enforce a reduction of carbon dioxide emissions and the abandonment of non-renewable energy resources. Instead, they promote renewable energy sources. In this way, new legal and environmental circumstances are becoming the main reason for the transformation of energy balances, which is a real economic and technological challenge. This transformation requires a strategic and effective approach, especially in those countries which until now have used mainly hard coal in the energy sector. Purpose of the article: According to above justification, the main purpose of the article is to identify the strategies for the transformation of energy balances that were implemented in the years 1990-2017 by chosen European countries and Turkey. Methods: The study period covers the years 1990-2017, and the subject of the research at first applies to all European countries, and then to 7 countries selected due to their high share of bituminous coal in energy balance in the first year of the analysis, treated as the initial point of transformation (1990). As a result of this selection, 6 EU members and Turkey with the largest share of coal in energy production in the year 1990 are examined. Particularly, an analysis of the trends in their energy balances in the years 1990-2017 is conducted. The research uses data on non-renewable energy consumption and renewable energy resources and the total energy consumption. The research methodology includes: analysis of the structure and dynamics, evaluation of trends and comparative analysis and presentation of development strategies. At the end of the article, a comparative analysis is carried out, the economic consequences of identified changes are assessed, and recommendations are formulated aimed at optimizing the structure of the energy balance in the future. Findings & Value added: Generally, there are four theoretical and empirical patterns of transformation strategies of energy balances with dominant coal consumption: 1) using other non-renewable energy resources; 2) replacing non-renewable energy resources with renewable ones; 3) using nuclear energy instead of coal; 4) increasing coal consumption as available and efficient energy resource. It was found that the examined countries implement mainly the strategy in which the decreasing share of coal is made up for by an increasing share of gas. Additionally, we can observe an increase in the share of nuclear energy in France, the Czech Republic and the United Kingdom. In Spain and Germany, despite the use of nuclear power plants for the production of energy, the share of nuclear energy in the energy balances has systematically decreased in time. In all analyzed countries, we can also observe an increasing share of renewable sources in energy balances, however, this growth is very slow.

Problem badawczy przedstawiony w artykule ma doniosłe znaczenie w filozoficznej debacie o człowieku, a jego niejednoznaczność i wielowymiarowość prowokuje do zadawania coraz to nowych pytań. Sfera „pomiędzy” posiada rozmaite implikacje zarówno w wymiarze indywidualnym, jak i społecznym, a rozpatrywana pod kątem konstytuowania się międzyosobowej relacji odsyła do problemu wolności, odpowiedzialności, wzajemności. Dlatego celem niniejszych analiz staje się próba odpowiedzi na pytanie o status, rolę oraz funkcje, jakie pełni „pomiędzy” w przestrzeni międzyludzkich obcowań i odniesień. Martin Buber ukazuje „pomiędzy” w pierwotnym skręcie relacji istnień, Józef Tischner umiejscawia je w samym centrum filozofii dramatu, który zawsze rozgrywa się między danym Ja i Ty, a Hanna Arendt niejako dopełnia ich analizy pod kątem wagi uwspólnotowienia, jakie dzięki „pomiędzy” może się dokonać w sferze publicznej. Dokonana analiza trzech filozoficznych perspektyw pozwala postawić tezę, że sfera „pomiędzy” odgrywa kluczową rolę w unaocznianiu specyfiki relacji, odsłania w pewien sposób jej rdzeń, ale też prowadzi do jeszcze głębszego wydobycia podmiotowości Ja i Ty.
The problem presented in this article is of significant importance in the philosophical debate on the individual. Its ambiguity and multidimensional character keep provoking new questions. The “between” plane has numerous implications in both the individual sense and the social sense. Approached from the perspective of the constitution of an interpersonal relationship, the plane points to the problem of freedom, responsibility, and reciprocality. Therefore, the aim of these analyses is to answer the question of the status, role and function of “between” in the interpersonal relationship and reference plane. Martin Buber presents “between” in the primal coil of the relationship of beings. Józef Tischner places them in the centre of the philosophy of drama, which always unfolds between a certain I and Thou. Finally, Hanna Arendt complements their analyses with the indication of the importance of community‑forming, which is possible in the public sphere thanks to the idea of “between”. The analysis of the three philosophical perspectives allows to formulate a thesis, in which the “between” plane plays a key role in realizing the specific nature of a relationship, reveals its core but also brings out the subjective I and Thou even more.

Celem niniejszych badań była charakterystyka podstawowych cech użytkowych mięsa nutrii i oszacowanie współczynników korelacji między nimi. Na 21 nutriach odmiany grenlandzkiej i standardowej oceniono organoleptycznie (w pkt.): kruchość, soczystość, smak i zapach mięsa oraz ubytek jego masy. Zmierzono również barwę mięsa spektrofotometrem Minolta 508i. Drugi etap pracy dotyczył oszacowania współczynników korelacji między cechami. Oszacowane w niniejszych badaniach współczynniki korelacji badanych cech mięsa nutrii mieściły się w przedziale od 0,496 do 0,8821. Spośród współczynników korelacji większość miała wartości znaczące.
Profile of basis usable coypu’s features was the aim of present investigations and estimations their coefficients r . Meat of 21 nutria (Greenland and Standard) was chacked on tenderness, juiciness, taste and flavor via organoleptic method. Indices of colour with Spektrophotometr Minolta 508i were determined. The coefficients of correlation were estimated between features. Estimated in present investigations correlation studied features coypu’s meat be comprised in compartment since 0,496 to 0,8821. From among counted coefficients of linear correlation the decided majority had the significant values.

Issues of the role of trust and cooperation between companies have been raised in the text. In the perspective of cluster structures formation and development these issues seem to be very important. The main objective of this text is to present the results of research on determining the level of trust and cooperation and readiness to deepen it in the studied companies of wood and furniture industry, construction industry and medical service companies.

The article concerns contemporary perspectives on early education, early, emergent and visual literacy, and concepts of the development of cognitive, linguistic, and socio-emotional competencies by using picturebooks in the dialogic reading method. Picturebooks for small children, especially earlyconcept picturebooks, which present nouns, verbs, or adjectives and are aesthetically designed, have a great potential, and are important for the gaining of cognitive, emotional, and visual codes and ideas by the child, especially when they are introduced by an adult (parent at home or teacher in a preschool institution) through an active, dialogic manner of reading. Dialogic reading is shown and described by G.J. Whitehurst and other researchers as an interactive and stimulating method of cognitive and socio-emotional development, which enhances the children’s speaking and reading competencies independently of their class, race, or gender – which is of emancipatory significance. The main aim of the text is to turn the reader’s attention to the significance of interactive reading of precisely selected, high-quality picturebooks by parents and early education teachers in the context of children’s development.
