Opis:
Today's times and the intensive scientific and technical development that follows them are conducive to the emergence of new types of addiction. To the ones already known and richly described in the literature on the subject of substance addictions (alcoholism, drug addiction, nicotine addiction) are added completely new ones, such as network addiction or phono addiction. Changes in the consumption attitudes of society, related to a strong need to possess, conditioning self-esteem on the basis of accumulated material goods, often lead to workaholism or shopaholism. Excessive focus on the external appearance of a person, their physicality, the cult of a slim but at the same time athletic body can lead to further addictions, such as bigorexia, addiction to plastic surgery. The fast pace of life, the need to experience more and more of these strong emotions may, in turn, translate into adrenaline addiction, which will be associated with taking risky behaviors (recently fashionable “mountain sea”, i.e. expeditions to the mountains in difficult weather conditions, in inappropriate attire).

The aim of the paper is the identification and analysis of key behavioral issues in accounting system. The behavioral economics originates from the critique of “homo oeconomicus” classical theory. The behavioral accounting is an offspring of behavioral economics and behavioral finance, what has been described in the first part of the paper. Additionally, the literature review of prior research of behavioral accounting has been done. Moreover, the authors have indicated the fields of accounting, where the influence of behavioral determinants will be increasing in the near future.

The purpose of the article/hypothesis: The aim of the article is to examine the significance of the reaction of stock exchange investors in that country to the publication of information about the reintroduction of border controls in order to limit the movement of people, especially foreigners. The article discusses issues related to economics and behavioral finance, paying special attention to the irrationality of decisions, discussed by many authors, under the influence of various factors. Methodology: In the case of the empirical study, event analysis methodologies were applied, using abnormal and cumulative abnormal rates of return. Results of the research: The results of a detailed analysis of events, based on overnormative single-period logarithmic rates of return and cumulative over-normative single-period logarithmic rates of return for an event, showed an interesting case contradicting the thesis on irrationality of investor behavior in the capital market, while questioning the efficient market hypothesis.

The aim of the article will be to present the applied procedure and the results of studies on its effectiveness in the case of two children displaying an extreme form of food selection, i.e. refusing to eat. The first child, a two-year-old boy, was only breastfed at the start of the therapy, at which point he weighed 8,200 grams (well below the third centile in weight). The other child, a girl aged three, ate only yoghurt and one type of soup during a given period, while her weight remained within the third centile. In both cases behavioural intervention consisting in increasing food acceptance led to the increase in the number of eaten meals and in weight.

Opis:
This article is to constitute the conclusion on the subject of the concept of behavioral sink and suicidal problems in the present times. For ages, people have occupied certain spaces and operate in their area. As communities, there are some cultural, economic and social systems. Thus they give shape to the spaces occupied - they form countries, regions, cities, villages and districts. All these territorial units, as well as architecture, houses, streets, public buildings and other elements of the landscape - constitute a socially created space. Researchers are trying to explain some issues through approaches in psychology: behavioral, humanistic, functional, cognitive or psychodynamic. Modernity is associated with many challenges of a psychological nature. Too many people in a territory cause many negative phenomena, including suicidal behavior. Due to the various models of interpretation of this phenomenon, the work is only a prelude to further theoretical and practical considerations in the field of behavioral sink.

Opis:
We evaluated the effectiveness of three different rehabilitation programs for chronic behavioral disorders in traumatic brain injury (TBI) patients with orbito-frontal damage (OFC), incurred from 13 to 15 years prior to enrollment. From among 547 adult patients with severe TBIs treated neurosurgically from 1999 to 2003, 60 were selected for the study, divided into three groups of 20, matched for age and sex. Each group received one of three different rehabilitation protocols. Group A received a comprehensive program with two components: (1) a 6-month early neuropsychological rehabilitation program targeting cognitive deficits, beginning immediately post-injury, and (2) the “Academy of Life” program, with weekly meetings aimed at reducing behavioral disorders in social transactions. Group B received only cognitive rehabilitation, while Group C received only the “Academy of Life” progam. The Frontal Behavioral Inventory (FBInv) was used to assess behavioral disorders at baseline and again after completion of the study. At baseline, all 60 patients still displayed all or most of the common behavioral symptoms characteristic of frontal syndrome. The improvement achieved by group A (the comprehensive program) was significantly better upon completion of the study than that shown by the patients in groups B (cognitive only) and C (social skills only). A comprehensive program of rehabilitation, which combines early neuropsychological rehabilitation of cognitive deficits with the “Academy of Life” program, aimed at improving social skills, proved to be more effective than either of these two components administered without the other

Necuroeconomics should be treated not like new direction in research, but rather like natural continuity of behavioral economics, which can benefit from neuroscientific component in analogous way as psychology does. Searching for neural correlates of behavior can be useful in delimitating between plausible and implausible theories, and also can be a source of new hypothesis about underlying mechanisms. Moreover methods used in neuroscience can help in formal description of constructs ignored by classical economics so far, such as emotions and individual differences.

This article undertakes the problem of rationality presented in works of behavioral economists. Paper is divided in three sections. In the first, there are described roots of behavioral economics, which can be mainly found in work of Herbert A. Simon, the creator of bounded rationality concept. Second part is focused on the problem of economic experiments, mainly those conducted by Daniel Kahneman and Amos Tversky. In the last part there are described implications of those experiments to the real-world policies (such as economic or social policy). This problem is mostly considered as the idea of libertarian paternalism depicted by Richard Thaler and Cass Sunstein.

Nowadays it is not only violence or crime which are classified as incorrect. There is a wide range of actions extended by behavioral ones. This issue is very complex because there is no clear-cut definition of what behavioral addiction is and what it isn’t. The aim of the research is to define the level of use and addiction to social media, e.g. Facebook.

Celem niniejszej pracy jest analiza uwarunkowań racjonalności decyzji wśród polskich inwestorów giełdowych o różnym poziomie doświadczenia w inwestowaniu na giełdzie. Racjonalność decyzji została zdefiniowana z punktu widzenia finansów behawioralnych i została zoperacjonalizowana jako częstość ulegania określonym inklinacjom behawioralnym (zob. efekt pewności) podczas procesu podejmowania decyzji.
The aim of the paper is to is to explore the determinants of the rationality in decision making among polish stock market investors with different level of expertise with investing. Rationality in decision making was defined from the behavioral finance point of view and was operationalized as the frequency of some behavioral biases (see: the certainty effect) within decision making process. In particular, this study aims to investigate the degree of susceptibility the certainty effect among people of various levels of expertise with investing. As  there is still a lack of data studies in behavioral finance literature investigating the issues mentioned in this article (or existing results are ambiguous) we treated our study as an exploratory research.

Opis:
In this paper, economic rationality is measured using the tools of behavioral economics, and the extent to which factors such as field of study, place of origin, gender, interest in economics and economic situation affect this rationality is determined. The authors hypothesize that among these factors, place of origin may be of particular importance due to, among other things, differences in the quality of education between urban and rural areas. In order to verify this hypothesis, Poisson regression and data from a survey conducted on a sample of 232 students of universities in Poznań were used. The developed model proved that the influence of both field of study and interest in economics was statistically significant. Moreover, in some cases place of origin and economic situation (if one’s situation is classified as the worst) were also significant factors. The findings from the survey allowed us to identify the profile of the least economically rational student: a person from a town of up to 250,000 inhabitants, in a field of study within the humanities, in the worst financial situation.

Opis:
The article is based on Robert Kugelmann’s work, Psychology and Catholicism: Contested Boundaries. It examines the development of Catholic psychology as a history of defining boundaries within scientific empirical psychology from 1829 to the present. The author divides the historical period into three periods: One: Neoscholastic Rational Psychology (1829–1965); Two: After Vatican II Psychology (1965 to present); and Three: An Emerging Thomistic Rational Teleological Behavioral Psychology. The essay examines the development of Neoscholastic rational psychology as a response to modernist experimental psychology. The neoscholastic movement approached the new discipline of empirical, as opposed to rational, psychology with the firm conviction in the formulation of a meta-psychology, based on a Thomistic metaphysics that would allow for an eventual synthesis of rational and empirical psychology. However, a synthesis with empirical psychology never came to realization, mainly over the issue of the faculties of the soul as foundational for a science of human behavior. The author argues that, even to the present day, the best approach to entering into a trading zone (transitional genus) with the principles and methods of scientific psychology is by avoiding all expressions of past, present, and future introspective psychology and brain mentalism, and turning to a synthesis with teleological behavioral principles and Aristotelian-Thomistic faculties of the soul psychology.

Opis:
The purpose of this article is to show the diversity in behavioral economics from both a normative and an explanatory point of view. Based on a critical analysis of the literature, the author presents behavioral economics from three perspectives: the perspective of diversification of the ideas about the way of functioning of human mind and normative suggestions concerning rationality, the perspective of connections between views on rationality and on the optimal economic system, and the perspective of the relationship between a psychological and institutional approach in economics. The analysis leads to the conclusion that in behavioral economics, we can find two opposite approaches to rationality, which result in different assessments of both individual behavior as well as the functioning of social institutions. The ”old” school of behavioral economics, which developed the concept of ecological rationality, is closely related to the institutional approach. The ”new” behavioral economics is less critical of neoclassical economics. It is a consequence of their tendency to interpret rationality in a constructivist spirit. But it is worth emphasizing the important common feature connecting both schools of behavioral economics with institutional economics. Institutionalism and the old school of behavioral economics emphasize the role of institutions from the cognitive, normative, and regulatory perspectives. The new behavioral economics adopts a normative conception of rationality close to that of neoclassical economics, but strongly accentuates the contextual character of human knowledge and behavior, i.e. one of the fundamental principles of the Kahneman school is framing decisions. There is an analogy between how social institutions on the one hand, and the formulation of the problem on the other affect the decisions of the individual. An architecture of choice is created as a result of the activities of private entities and governments. The advocates of libertarian paternalism are conscious of the threat stemming from the fact that cognitive deficiencies affect not only individuals as private entities, but also individuals as regulators and experts, hence their caution with respect to regulatory solutions. Behavioral economics as well as institutional economics both show various aspects and the complexity of the problem of coordination and regulation in a social system. The development of these two streams of economic thought reflects a return to a more balanced approach, both with respect to the assumptions of economic theory as well as with respect to reaching political conclusions based on economic theory.

Opis:
The choice of location is one of the key economic decisions for hotel owners. In modern economics traditional premises are increasingly questioned, and assumptions are often made involving imperfect competition, limited rationality of behavior, and the incomplete scope of information or the inability to use it effectively. This is also reflected in the theory of location within which a behavioral trend has been developed assuming the occurrence of non-economic, subjective factors in making location decisions. The aim of the paper is to identify behavioral factors in hotel location in Opolskie Province in Poland. The paper uses four main research methods: literature review, documentation, diagnostic survey and individual case studies. The study results confirm the importance of the behavioral approach in the process of selecting a location for independent hotels in Opolskie Province, involving the choice of secondary or primary locations. In the latter case, the decision-making process is based entirely on behavioral factors or is supplemented by them in situations where an objective approach is not connected with decision-making certainty. Behavioral factors such as intuition, emulation, experience, place of origin and residence, individual cases and the influence of others should be regarded as highly significant.

The Courage Measure (CM), developed by Norton and Weiss (2009) has proved to be a significant predictor of a behavioral approach in a fear-eliciting situation. The current research project aimed to replicate this result, using a shortened version of the scale, whose psychometric superiority over the full version has been supported by previous studies. For this purpose, in Study 1 the psychometric properties of the Polish version of the CM (CM-PL) were analyzed; the results supported its unidimensional structure and measurement invariance across gender groups, as well as good internal consistency. Study 1 also provided preliminary evidence of the convergent, concurrent and divergent validity of CM-PL, showing its relation to resilience, grit, risk-taking and the Big Five personality traits. In Study 2, 31 participants with an elevated fear of spiders completed a behavioral approach test in which they moved ever closer to a display of taxidermied spiders. The results showed that the CM-PL significantly moderated the relationship between anxiety/distress and the behavioral approach, confirming its relation to real behavior. Overall, the results confirmed that CM-PL is a valuable measure that can be useful in scientific research and psychological practice (i.e., counseling and psychotherapy).
