The aim of this paper is an investigation of topological algebras with an orthogonal sequence which is total. Closed prime ideals or closed maximal ideals are kernels of multiplicative functionals and the continuous multiplicative functionals are given by the "coefficient functionals". Our main result states that an orthogonal total sequence in a unital Fréchet algebra is already a Schauder basis. Further we consider algebras with a total sequence $(x_n)_{n∈ℕ}$ satisfying $x^2_n=x_n$ and $x_n x_{n+1} = x_{n+1}$ for all n ∈ ℕ.

E. Tutaj has introduced classes of Schauder bases termed "unconditional-like" (UL) and "unconditional-like*" (UL*) whose intersection is the class of unconditional bases. In view of this association with unconditional bases, it is interesting to note that there exist Banach spaces which have no unconditional basis and yet have a basis of one of these two types (e.g., the space [0,1]). In the same spirit, we show in this paper that the space of all compact operators on a reflexive Banach space with an unconditional basis has a basis of type UL*, even though it is well-known that this space has no unconditional basis.

Opis:
A combination of long range predictive control-originated EHPC and internal model control-structured MAC is shown to produce a new, simple but effective Extended Horizon Model Algorithmic Control (EHMAC). The EHMAC strategy can be used to robustly control open-loop stable non-minimum phase (possibly non-square) MIMO systems under very large model-plant mismatches. Robust EHMAC design is made straightforward by means of a separate selection of a single prediction horizon and an IMC filter parameter, which can be easily auto-tuned.

We prove that the dual unit ball of a Banach space X is a Corson compactum provided that the dual unit ball with respect to every equivalent norm on X is a Valdivia compactum. As a corollary we show that the dual unit ball of a Banach space X of density $ℵ_1$ is Corson if (and only if) X has a projectional resolution of the identity with respect to every equivalent norm. These results answer questions asked by M. Fabian, G. Godefroy and V. Zizler and yield a converse to Amir-Lindenstrauss' theorem.

A parallel realization of the NDDO-WF technique for semi-empirical quantum-chemical calculations on large molecular systems in the spd-basis is described. The technological aspects of designing scalable parallel calculations on super computers (by using MPI library) are discussed. The scaling of individual algorithms and entire package was carried out for two model systems with a number of atomic orbitals of 894 and 2014, respectively. The speedup was determined in computer experiments with the RM600 E60 and Cluster Intel PIII multi-processor systems. The effect of communication rate on the package performance is discussed.

A parallel implementation of the conventionally used NDDO (MNDO, AM1, PM3, CLUSTER-Z1) and modified NDDO-WF (CLUSTER-Z2) techniques for semiempirical quantum-chemical calculations on large molecular systems in the sp- and spd-basis, respectively, is described. The atom-pair distribution of data over processors forms the basis of the parallelization. The technological aspects of designing scalable parallel calculations on supercomputers (by using ScaLAPACK and MPI libraries) are discussed. The scaling of individual algorithms and entire package was carried out for model systems with 894, 1920, and 2014 atomic orbitals. The package speedup provided by different multi-processor systems involving a cluster of the Intel PIII processors, Alpha-21264-processor-built machine MBC-1000M, and CRAY-T3E, is analyzed. The effect of computer characteristics on the package performance is discussed.

Opis:
The paper analyzes a document issued by the office of education - the curricular basis for general education in high schools. The theoretical ground for this analysis is Z. Kwieciński's theory of the decagon of education, the theory which is a synthetic presentation of what influences the process of human development. When we interpret the concept of education as the broadest category describing the causes and effects of the changes in students' personalities, we may accomplish harmony and integrity through an even influence within the following areas of issues (sides): globalization, etatization, nationalization, collectivization, politicization, bureaucratization, and professionalization, socialization, inculturation and personalization, formation and juridification, education and humanization, and hominization. The analysis of the curricular basis deals with each of the above sides. One has to find appropriate areas in their educational purposes, school tasks, curricula and students' achievements in particular subjects of high school. This analysis entitles us to conclude that each of the wall of the model of education is reflected in the curricular basis. It also records lack of particular issues, an important task for theoretical studies and a hint for the author of curricula and teachers.
