Opis:
Quantitative estimation of the structure - anticancer activity relationship in a series of macrocyclic Schiff bases of 2,6-bis(formylaryloxymethyl)pyridines was carried out by the topological approach. Correlation equations describing the relationship between the anticancer activity and structural parameters of the molecules studied and descriptors characterizing their structure were obtained on the basis of in vitro screening data. The influence of structure of the investigated substances as reflected by the parameters studied on the anticancer activity, was established.

Opis:
Almost unlimited possibilities of sharing neuroinformatics resources, opened by the Internet, create an almost unlimited number of issues. Growing amount of available data, combined with the lack of reliable and large enough metainformation resources, limits the proliferation and reliability of this media. In this paper we propose a solution, which may help in an efficient sharing of neuroinformatics resources, by means of a network of vortals dedicated to particular and well defined topics. These vortals are responsible for collection of high quality resources in their particular fields. They are interconnected in a way transparent to the user, using a low level interface for interchanging queries. For a user this means that a query entered in one of the vortals will return relevant results found also in the other vortals of the Network. We also describe technical details and pilot implementation; metainformation is based upon Open Archives/ Dublin Core standards, and interchange of queries on XML/SOAP.

Many organizations today have more than very large data-bases; they have databases that grow without limit at a rate of several million records per day. Mining these continuous data streams brings unique opportunities, but also new challenges. This paper describes and evaluates VFDT, an anytime system that builds decision trees using constant memory and constant time per example. VFDT can in-corporate tens of thousands of examples per second using the-shelf hardware. It uses Hoeffding bounds to guar-antee that its output is asymptotically nearly identical to that of a conventional learner. The study VFDT's proper-ties and demonstrate its utility through an extensive set of experiments on synthetic data. To apply VFDT to mining the continuous stream of Web access data from the whole University of Washington main campus.

W pracy przedstawiono wyniki badań wytrzymałości na ścinanie mieszaniny popiołowo-żużlowej pobranej z osadnika Elektrowni "Skawina". Badania przeprowadzono w standardowym aparacie bezpośredniego ścinania. Analiza wyników badań pozwala stwierdzić, że mieszanina popiołowo-żużlowa charakteryzuje się dużymi wartościami parametrów wytrzymałościowych przy prawie niezmienionej wartości kąta tarcia wewnętrznego oraz znacznymi różnicami spójności pomiędzy przyjętymi kryteriami ścięcia.
The paper presents results of an investigation into the shear strength of the ash-slag mixture taken from the settling pond of the Power Plant "Skawina". The tests were carried out in a standard direct shear apparatus. The analysis of the test results shows, that the tested ash-slag mixture can be characterised by the big values of strength parameters at the almost unchanged value of the angle of internal friction and the significant differences of cohesion between the assumed shearing criteria.

The goal of the paper was to present the selected socio-demographic features of Borne Sulinowo, a unique town in Poland, established within the area of the former secret military base of the Soviet Army and never used for non-military purposes before 1993. Borne Sulinowo is located in the north-west, approx. 20 kilometres from Szczecinek town. Before the World War II it had been a German garrison with the Wehrmacht Artillery School and after 1945 the area was taken over by the Soviet Army. The troops were present there until the end of 1992. Once the Soviet soldiers and officers have left the garrison, new Polish inhabitants started to come to Borne Sulinowo and develop the “new” town. That is why the socio-demographic structure of the town in its first 20 years (1993–2013) was peculiar, and so were the factors determining its transformation. The influence of the military past on the structure of Borne Sulinowo population has been shown in the paper. In 2013 the population of Borne Sulinowo consisted of approximately 4900 people; 60% of whom were between 18 and 59 years old. People under 18 made up 18% of the total population, whilst inhabitants over 60–22%. Because of the short Polish history of the town and the lack of traditions, Borne Sulinowo’s citizens are not fully integrated. Most of them came from different regions of Poland, thus having various backgrounds and cultures.

The novel mordent and disperse heterocyclic dyes were prepared by coupling of various diazo solution of aromatic amines with N-{4-[2-{3,5-bis(4-methoxyphenyl)-4,5-dihydro-pyrazol-1-yl}-2-oxoethoxy]phenyl}-1-(phenyldiazenyl)methanimine The resultant mordent and disperse heterocyclic dyes were characterized by elemental analyses, IR and NMR spectral studies. The UV-visible spectral data have also been discussed in terms of structural property relationship. All the disperse azo dyes were applied on polyester textile fibers. The percentage dye bath exhaustion and fixation on the polyester fibers have been found to be very good. Moderate to very good light fastness and washing fastness properties were indicated by the dyed fabrics. Structures of synthesized compounds were confirmed by physical and spectral analysis. The compounds are evaluated for their antimicrobial activities.

The knowledge acquisition model proposed in this paper is designed to assist with the acquisition of knowledge in a company possessing its own maintenance department. The model is built on the basis of knowledge bases. The authors focus on basic information required for maintenance department operation and expert archiving of technical documentation. Three main areas are covered by the model: knowledge acquisition and formalization, knowledge systematization and knowledge retrieval by problem or field. It is assumed that the implementation of the model coupled with an electronic knowledge acquisition report and with an application for information retrieval will bring benefits for the company.

The modern method of analysis of the distributed parameter systems relies on the transformation of the dynamical model to an abstract differential equation on an appropriately chosen Banach or, if possible, Hilbert space. A linear dynamical model in the form of a first order abstract differential equation is considered to be well-posed if its right-hand side generates a strongly continuous semigroup. Similarly, a dynamical model in the form of a second order abstract differential equation is well-posed if its right-hand side generates a strongly continuous cosine family of operators. Unfortunately, the presence of a feedback leads to serious complications or even excludes a direct verification of assumptions of the Hille-Phillips-Yosida and/or the Sova-Fattorini Theorems. The class of operators which are similar to a normal discrete operator on a Hilbert space describes a wide variety of linear operators. In the papers [12, 13] two groups of similarity criteria for a given hybrid closed-loop system operator are given. The criteria of the first group are based on some perturbation results, and of the second, on the application of Shkalikov's theory of the Sturm-Liouville eigenproblems with a spectral parameter in the boundary conditions. In the present paper we continue those investigations showing certain advanced applications of the Shkalikov's theory. The results are illustrated by feedback control systems examples governed by wave and beam equations with increasing degree of complexity of the boundary conditions.

Some Tröger’s bases have been synthesised from substituted anilines and paraformaldehyde in presence of Lewis acid catalyst such as anhydrous AlCl3, through electrophilic substitution reaction. The purities of these Tröger’s bases have been checked by their physical constants and spectroscopic data published earlier in the literature. The NMR chemical shift (δ, ppm) of methylene protons and carbon were assigned. The assigned methylene protons and carbon chemical shifts (δ, ppm) of synthesised Tröger’s bases have been correlated with Hammett substituent constants, F and R parameters using single and multi-regression analyses. From the results of statistical analyses, the effects of substituent on methylene protons and carbon were discussed.

An efficiency of the nonsingular meshless method is analyzed in an acoustic indoor problem. The solution is assumed in the form of the series of radial bases functions. The Hardy’s multiquadratic functions, as the bases, are taken into account. The room acoustic field with uniform, impedance walls is considered. The representative, rectangular cross section of the room is chosen. Practical combinations of acoustic boundary conditions, expressed through absorption coefficient values, are considered. The classical formulation of the boundary problem is used. It is established any coefficient in the multiquadratic functions depend on the number of influence points, the frequency and the absorption coefficient. All approximate results are calculated in relation to the exact ones. This way, it is proved that the meshless method based on the multiquadratic functions is simple and efficient method in the description of the complicated acoustic boundary problems for the low and medium ranges of frequency.

The Mannich reaction is important for the synthesis and modification of biologically active compounds. Mannich bases – substituted products containing different heterocyclic system in their structures seem to be suitable candidates for further chemical modifications and might be of interest as pharmacologically active compounds. The main goal of this article is to present synthesis and biological activity of selected Mannich bases. Based on a review of the chemical literature, Mannich bases showed a multipharmacological effects. The Mannich bases, containing various heterocyclic systems were identified as potent anticancer agents. Presented compounds exhibit cytotoxic, antiproliferate in vitro, anticonvulsant, antioxidative, antiinflaminatory and analgesic activity. Some of them can be used in a treatment of diabetes and hypertension.

Analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities of four transition metal complexes of a Schiff base derived from salicylaldehyde and glycine, viz. [N-salicylideneglycinato diaqua cobalt(II) dimer] (SGCo)2, [N-salicylideneglycinato-di-aqua-nickel(ll)dimer] (SGN)2, [N-salicylideneglycinato-aqua-copper(II)] (SGC) and [N-salicylideneglycinato diaqua zinc(II) dimer] (SGZ)2 were studied in swiss albino mice. 10 mg/kg (p.o) dose for each compound were selected throughout the research work. The analgesic activity was determined by acetic acid induced writhing and tail immersion methods. All such data were compared with standard drugs at the dose of 10 mg/kg (p.o. The anti-inflammatory activity of the test compounds was determined by the carragenan induced mice paw edema inhibition method.). Analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities of the test compounds at 10 mg/kg (p.o.) were quite comparable to those of standard drugs at 10 mg/kg (p.o.). All these compounds can be considered as potent analgesic and anti-inflammatory agents.

Daniel Bernstein and Tanja Lange [9] proved that two given addition formulas on twisted Edwards elliptic curves ax² + y² = 1 + dxy are complete (i.e. the sum of any two points on a curve can be computed using one of these formulas). In this paper we give simple verification of completeness of these formulas using a program written in Magma, which is based on the fact that completeness means that some systems of polynomial equations have no solutions. This method may also be useful to verify completeness of additions formulas on other models of elliptic curves.

Molecular dynamics trajectories (700 ps) of the solvated and neutralized 75-residue yeast tRNA Phe were generated using the AMBER 5.0 molecular dynamics software package. The cut-off scheme was used to treat electrostatic interactions; consequently, all long-range interactions beyond 12 angstroms were neglected. The equilibration procedure and conditions during simulations led to a dynamically stable model of the tRNA molecule. During the simulations all base-base interactions (which determine the secondary and the tertiary structure of the molecule) were well preserved. Consequently, the global shape of the molecule was preserved well and the RMS deviation calculated between the starting x-ray structure and the final structure after 700 ps of simulations was 3.25 angstroms. The biggest deviation is observed in the region of the anticodon hairpin loop; this high mobility is associated with the presence of a very unusual Y-base and a binding site of a magnesium ion in this region.

An efficiency of the nonsingular meshless method (MLM) was analyzed in an acoustic indoor problem. The solution was assumed in the form of the series of radial bases functions (RBFs). Three representative kinds of RBF were chosen: the Hardy’s multiquadratic, inverse multiquadratic, Duchon’s functions. The room acoustic field with uniform, impedance walls was considered. To achieve the goal, relationships among physical parameters of the problem and parameters of the approximate solution were first found. Physical parameters constitute the sound absorption coefficient of the boundary and the frequency of acoustic vibrations. In turn, parameters of the solution are the kind of RBFs, the number of elements in the series of the solution and the number and distribution of influence points. Next, it was shown that the approximate acoustic field can be calculated using MLM with a priori error assumed. All approximate results, averaged over representative rectangular section of the room, were calculated and then compared to the corresponding accurate results. This way, it was proved that the MLM, based on RBFs, is efficient method in description of acoustic boundary problems with impedance boundary conditions and in all acoustic frequencies.

A series of Schiff’s bases have been synthesized by fly-ash:p-toluenesulfonic acid (fly-ash:PTS) catalyzed microwave assisted oxidative coupling of arylamines and substituted benzaldehydes under solvent-free condition. The synthesized Schiff’s bases are characterized by their physical constants, analytical and spectroscopic data. The group frequencies of imines such as IR (v, cm–1) and NMR (δ, ppm) spectral data was correlated with Hammett substituent constants, F and R parameters using single and multi-linear regression analysis. The antimicrobial activities of these Schiff’s bases have been studied using Bauer-Kirby method.

Opis:
The synthesis, spectroscopic and X – Ray Diffraction studies of some Pd(II) complexes with bidentate Schiff bases are reported here. These Schiff bases were derived by condensing aldehydes like 2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde, 5-chloro salicyladehyde with amines like 4-nitro aniline, 4-methyl aniline and 4-methoxy aniline. The complexes were characterized on the basis of elemental analysis, molar conductivity, spectral (IR, 1H and electronic) as well as thermal analysis. All the Pd (II) complexes exhibit square planar geometry with 1:2 (metal : ligand) stoichiometry. The X- ray diffraction studies suggest monoclinic crystal system for these complexes.

Natural chemical compounds and their derivatives could be used for designing new classes of anticancer, antifungal or antiviral drugs. One of those compounds is gossypol, isolated from grains of wool. Gossypol’s derivatives can freely penetrate the blood-brain barrier (BBB). This basic review considers synthesis and reduction of prochiral imines. Gossypol derivatives belong to imines. Imines as unstable compounds, hydrolyze in contact with a small amount of water. There are substrates for preparation of oximes and its derivatives. In this article three methods of imines production are presented. There are: (a) reaction of aldehyde or ketones with primary amine, (b) addition of Grignard reagents to nitriles and (c) pyrolysis of alkyl azide. The first one is discussed in details with specific description of the mechanism of both steps: first stage - addition to form a hemiaminal, second one – dehydration with formation of imine. Many conditions such as acid power, value of pH reaction and environment (preferably anhydrous) have influence on the formation rate of imines and determine each of two stages, i.e. addition and dehydration. Furthermore, the imines-enamines tautomeric and stereochemical aspects with possible attack of nucleophile molecules to the carbon atom of the C=N bond from the Si or Re side of prochiral imines as well as potential ways of imines reductions to amines by using commonly used reducers (NaCNBH3) are discussed. Moreover, two new methods of reduction are presented: the first – with using trichlor acids catalyzed chiral Lewis’s bases and the second one – asymmetric hydrogenation of imines.

Przeprowadzono badania dotyczące możliwości wykorzystania baz ortogonalnych do rozpoznawania przejść między różnymi formami dna, zapisanymi na obrazie sonarowym. Rozkład zmian form dna jest charakterystyczny dla danego miejsca, stąd można je powiązać z konkretnymi współrzędnymi geograficznymi, co może być wykorzystane do określenia pozycji statku w nawigacji porównawczej.
The paper describes a research concerning possible applications of orthogonal bases for the recognition of changes between various forms on the seabed recorded as sonar images. The distribution of changes in seabed forms is characteristic of any place. Therefore, they can be associated with geographical co?ordinates, which can be used for determining ship position in comparative navigation.

The problem of determining power integral bases in algebraic number fields is equivalent to solving the corresponding index form equations. As is known (cf. Győry [25]), every index form equation can be reduced to an equation system consisting of unit equations in two variables over the normal closure of the original field. However, the unit rank of the normal closure is usually too large for practical use. In a recent paper Győry [27] succeeded in reducing index form equations to systems of unit equations in which the unknown units are elements of unit groups generated by much fewer generators. On the other hand, Wildanger [32] worked out an efficient enumeration algorithm that makes it feasible to solve unit equations even if the rank of the unit group is ten. Combining these developments we describe an algorithm to solve completely index form equations in quintic fields. The method is illustrated by numerical examples: we computed all power integral bases in totally real quintic fields with Galois group S₅.

Dark grey podzolized soils on the loess like loams, which are represented in the soil cover within fresh and humidity gradients in the Western Forest Steppe of Ukraine, are characterized by high forest vegetation potential, which ensure the formation of mostly pure and mixed larch and spruce stands with high level of the productivity. Despite the fact that both species are coniferous, their effect on the soil, in particular, on its acid-base indicators (actual and potential forms of acidity, sum of absorbed bases, degree of saturation of bases, content of mobile aluminium), which are important components of soil fertility, are specific. Due to the fact that there is a close interaction between forest plantations and soil properties, changing the participation of species in the stand, it is possible to adjust the actual soil fertility. The soils under both pure and mixed spruce and larch stands are characterized by a high level of potential acidity that reaches the high acidic values in the upper horizons. A similar reaction of soil solution under coniferous forests is caused by acid hydrolysis of aluminosilicates and accumulation of mobile Al in the rhizosphere zone. Simultaneously, the same acidic characteristics, including the presence of movable aluminium, are also found in soils under broadleaved plantations. In general, acid-exchange properties of soils (high potential acidity, unsaturation of bases and availability of movable aluminium) traditionally are considered as unfavourable for vegetation. However, our researches refute it and prove that within certain values, these indicators do not limit the productivity of pure and mixed spruce and larch stands.

What the article talks about are the difficulties of figuring out how reliable the workings of a complicated technological object are, especially when using a five-valued logic-based diagnostic method. The foundation for conducting dependability studies on technological objects is the utilization of prepared models that depict operational processes. The present study aims to build and provide a comprehensive description of a five-state model that characterizes the operational process of the diagnosed facility. The operational states that hold significance are the states of the object being tested, as diagnosed within the framework of 5VL-value logic. The model of the exploitation process that was constructed was further validated using simulated experiments. The outcomes of these comparative tests yield the calculated probabilities of the tested thing existing in its distinct conditions. The estimated time frames of occurrence of the recognized states in the object were determined based on the probability of occurrence of the diagnostic states, which were derived from the reliability features of the tested object.

The Mannich reaction is a three-component condensation reaction involving an active hydrogen containing compound, formaldehyde and a primary or a secondary amine. The Mannich reaction is one of the most important basic reaction types in organic chemistry. This kind of aminoalkylation is important for the synthesis and modification of biologically active compounds. Many studies have shown that Mannich bases possesses potent biological activities: antibacterial, antifungal, anti-inflammatory and antimalarial properties. Mannich bases – substituted products containing different heterocyclic moiety in their structures seem to be suitable candidates for further chemical modifications and might be of interest as pharmacologically active compounds. The main goal of this article is to present synthesis and antimicrobial activity of selected Mannich bases. The Mannich reaction is known to be very useful for the synthesis of antibacterial compounds. The Mannich bases, containing various heterocyclic systems were identified as potent antimicrobial agents. Obtained in Mannich reaction derivatives of antibacterial drugs: ciprofloxacine, norfloxacine demonstrate higher antibacterial activity than used drugs, while derivatives of drugs: ibuporofen or phenytoine changed the profile of action of new synthesized compounds.

Schiff bases and their metal complexes are increasingly being used as catalysts, polymers and dyes. This paper reviews the properties of Schiff bases and benefits of their use in various branches of industry.

The article “Status and prospects of the U.S. military presence in Europe in the second decade of the twenty-first century”, analyzes the involvement of U.S. armed forces in Europe in this period. It is an important topic because of the changes that the U.S. administration announced in past few years. Additionally, worth to consider, because the events in Ukraine can produce a new approach to this issue. The author tries to answer, among others, the following questions: How the U.S. Military involvement looks like in Europe at the beginning of the first decade of the twenty-first century? What are and were the U.S. administration’s plans for the military presence in Europe and in the world? What impact on the decisions of the United States has the situation in Ukraine ? Analysis and answers to the above questions led the author to a number of conclusions and these in turn allowed to outline several scenarios for further U.S. military presence in Europe.

When analysing the Bible one can notice that it does not mention directly the fact of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Neverthe-less, the discussed theologians deal with this matter by referring to Tradition.

Opis:
We study sufficient conditions on the weight w, in terms of membership in the $A_p$ classes, for the spline wavelet systems to be unconditional bases of the weighted space $H^p(w)$. The main tool to obtain these results is a very simple theory of regular Calderón-Zygmund operators.

After the collapse of the bipolar system, the Soviet Union, and then its heir, the Russian Federation, lost its position as a global player in favour of US hegemony. The arms race was abandoned, reduction of military spending began, and Russian troops were withdrawn from most bases outside the country. The changing conditions of Russia’s security, NATO enlargement, and loss of influence in many regions of the world have prompted the Russian authorities to change their security policy and restore the former balance. The security policy of the Russian Federation aimed at rebuilding its superpower position in the world is implemented, among others, through their military presence outside its borders. The use of this instrument in foreign policy serves both to regain a dominant role and to pursue particular interests – including internal ones. A critical analysis based on the literature on the subject, strategic documents of the Russian Federation, and reports and articles available on the Internet confirms the assumption that the Russian Federation successfully strengthens its position in the world, thus strengthening not only the security of the state, but also manifesting its power.

The paper presents a view on one specific form of instruction – Physics and Ecology at elementary schools, supported by multimedia and IT. The author, based on experience with such instruction and feedback from the pedagogical public, has created within a KEGA project, a file of eco-lists for Elementary school pupils, which draws from logical bases from Physics and a sample of such is presented in the article.

Opis:
Two types of long-chain conjugated Schiff bases and their iron salts were obtained by the coordination polycondensation of p-phenylenediamine with glyoxal or terephthalaldehyde. Elemental analysis and infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) were used to evaluate the chemical structure of the obtained poly(Schiff bases) and their salts. Thermal stability (TGA) and electrical conductivity were also investigated.
W wyniku koordynacyjnej polikondensacji p-fenylenodiaminy z glioksalem lub aldehydem tereftalowym otrzymano dwa rodzaje długołańcuchowych sprzężonych zasad Schiffa oraz ich sole żelazowe. Do oceny struktury chemicznej otrzymanych zasad Schiffa i ich soli stosowano analizę elementarną i spektroskopię w podczerwieni (FTIR). Zbadano również stabilność termiczną (TGA) i przewodnictwo elektryczne.

Cultural Studies done through journals and media provide the researcher with large amount of data which can occasionally create confusion or mistakes, if they are not classified and ordered in a rigorous way. This work aims to present our database, born to study Literary Criticism through the weekly magazine Destino, as an example of database’s application in Cultural History.
Los Estudios Culturales a partir de la prensa periódica ofrecen al investigador una multitud de datos que, en ocasiones, puede generar confusión o errores, si no se clasifican y ordenan de forma rigurosa. Este trabajo pretende exponer la creación de una base de datos para el estudio de la crítica literaria en el semanario Destino, como ejemplo de utilización de esta herramienta en la Historia Cultural.

W pracy zebrano podstawowe informacje dotyczące adsorberów obrotowych. Przedstawiono zasadę działania oraz zastosowanie tych urządzeń w osuszaniu powietrza i w systemach kontroli lotnych związków organicznych do atmosfery. Omówiono różne rozwiązania konstrukcyjne tych aparatów oraz opisano podstawy modelowania matematycznego.
Basic information about rotary adsorbers is assembled in the paper. The operation principle and application of these adsorbers in air dehumidification and VOC emission control systems are presented. Different constructions of rotary adsorbers and basic mathematical models are also described.
