The article presents a cross-sectional view of the development of the HEV car market over the last two decades. Hybrid cars are currently the widest group of cars equipped with alternative to classic drive systems. They are also the most numerous group among electric vehicles. The historical meanders of HEV development were described, as well as the current level of development of this market and the real prospects for the popularization of HEV cars. The level of world production of this category of motor vehicles in the twenty-year period 2001-2020 was also characterized. The article attempts to estimate the real size of the world's HEV fleet. The level of sales of this category of vehicles by individual countries and their changing percentage share in the passenger car market were also presented. Sales of electric hybrids even in the crisis year 2020 increased from 3.2 million to approx. 4 million vehicles, despite a decrease in sales of new passenger cars from 64 to 54 million units. The above fact also proves the market attractiveness of this type of vehicles and the constantly growing interest in them.
W artykule przedstawiono przekrojowy obraz rozwoju rynku samochodów HEV na przestrzeni ostatnich dwóch dekad. Samochody hybrydowe to obecnie najszersza grupa samochodów wyposażonych w alternatywne dla klasycznych układów napędowych rozwiązania. Stanowią też najliczniejszą grupę wśród pojazdów elektrycznych. Opisano historyczne meandry rozwoju HEV, obecny poziom rozwoju tego rynku oraz realne perspektywy spopularyzowania samochodów HEV. Scharakteryzowano również poziom światowej produkcji tej kategorii pojazdów samochodowych w dwudziestoleciu 2001-2020. W artykule podjęto próbę oszacowania rzeczywistej wielkości światowej floty HEV. Przedstawiono również poziom sprzedaży tej kategorii pojazdów przez poszczególne kraje oraz zmieniający się ich udział procentowy w rynku samochodów osobowych. Sprzedaż hybryd elektrycznych nawet w kryzysowym roku 2020 wzrosła z 3,2 mln do ok. 4 mln pojazdów, pomimo spadku sprzedaży nowych aut osobowych z 64 do 54 mln sztuk. Powyższy fakt świadczy również o atrakcyjności rynkowej tego typu pojazdów i stale rosnącym zainteresowaniu nimi.

In the years 2016-2020, there has been a significant acceleration in the development of technologies for the hydrogen energy use and their popularization in practice. The value of the global hydrogen market in 2018 was estimated at US $122 billion, predicted that it will increase to US $155 billion by the 2022. The appropriate policy framework has a major impact on the development of new technologies, in particular during research, prototype implementations and the initial phase of their commercialization. Of course, this also fully applies to hydrogen technologies, which was confirmed, i.a., in its study by The Hydrogen Council, a leading global organization in this field. The spearheading countries intensively involved in the development and dissemination of hydrogen technologies are primarily: Japan, China, South Korea, Germany, France, Great Britain, Scandinavian and Benelux countries, as well as Canada and the USA. A dozen more countries making up the leading group, such as: Italy, Spain, Portugal, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, India and South Africa are making efforts to join the global hydrogen race and complete the leading group. The scale of the global development of hydrogen technologies is illustrated by the fact that at the end of 2019, vehicles with hydrogen fuel cells and the publicly accessible hydrogen refuelling stations serving them already operated in 18 countries. An effective use of the incurred expenditures undoubtedly requires the interested states to formulate an appropriate policy (strategy) for the hydrogenation of the economy, including, in addition to precisely defined long-term objectives, e.g. elements of support from public administration, assurance of: stable investment conditions and the necessary regulatory conditions. The article attempts to synthetically present the political framework, i.e. the functioning plans and programs as well as national strategies for the development of hydrogen technology and economy in 19 countries.

Road safety is a complex research problem and, due to different causes and circumstances, an interdisciplinary issue. Its essence lies in the intensification of the automotive industry, which, apart from many benefits, is also a source of negative phenomena and dangerous threats. The most important consequences are road accidents, whose number, types and consequences for traffic participants depend on many different factors. This paper is devoted to the issues of safety and order in road traffic as well as road incidents and their consequences in Poland.

The research aims to recognize the potential of adopting the model-based design methodology to the development process of an LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) fuelling system. Changing regulations often force the modern development of internal combustion engines (Euro 7, CO2 reduction measures, etc.). With the definitive ban on new registrations of vehicles powered by internal combustion engines in Europe (planned for 2035), there is still ongoing development of the adaptation of the fuelling system to LPG. There is still market potential in adapting new internal combustion engines, usually equipped with direct injection systems, to reduce customers’ cost of ownership of a vehicle. As the engineering process should be accelerated in the face of the variety of direct injection systems offered by OEMs (original equipment manufacturers), the model-based design methodology is proposed to make the development more effective. The article presents the SWOT analysis of this approach in the engineering process and the potential of the method in an LPG system development is concluded.

W artykule przedstawiono niektóre rodzaje samochodów osobowych eksploatowanych przez sektor cywilny, jak też przez sektor wojenny podczas II wojny światowej. Zasadniczym kryterium przyjętym w artykule było wykorzystanie gazu generatorowego jako paliwa do napędu tego typu pojazdów. Były one produkowane w różnych krajach, potrzebę tego typu konstrukcji i produkcji wymusił m.in. kryzys paliwowy, także brak benzyny, paliw płynnych które zużywano na potrzeby wojny. W skład artykułu wchodzą ryciny, schematy, które ilustrują graficznie przedstawione zagadnienie.
This article presents chosen types of passenger cars exploited by the civil sector, as well as by the war sector, during World War II. The basic criterion applied in the article was the usage of producer gas as fuel for driving this type of vehicles. These were produced in various countries and the need for this type of constructions and production was forced, inter alia, by the fuel crisis, as well as by the lack of fuel, liquid fuels, which were used for the needs of the war. The article includes figures and diagrams which graphically illustrate the presented topic.

A socially responsible company should take responsibility for its impact but also take care of the impact throughout its supply chain. Its perspective must be wider than only its own practices. Supplier development process can be used to spread socially and environmentally responsible practices across the supply chain. The aim of the paper is to identify and classify the socially responsible activities practised by the car producers and dedicated to their suppliers. In the paper sustainability reports of seven automakers were analysed. The authors used the technique of content analysis. The socially responsible practices dedicated to suppliers was classified into three dimensions and four categories. All of the automakers disclose information in their sustainability reports on socially responsible practices focused on their suppliers. However, the practices differ in terms of dimension and the area of CSR applied.

This study concerned clusters as well as research and development affecting the competitive advantage of the Thai automotive industry’s mould and die sector. The study of development, examination of the consistency of the structural equation model, and the direct influence of linkage and association of cluster, as well as research and development for competitive advantage of operational locations in the Thai automotive mould & die sector was carried out as well. Data was collected from 320 mould and die industry operators in Thailand with the goal of obtaining key information to align the business direction in response to market opportunities. An additional goal was to elevate the competitiveness of the Thai automotive mould and die industry toward positive growth and continual sustainability.

Artykuł ma na celu zbadanie zmian znaczenia przemysłu samochodowego w rozwoju społeczno-gospodarczym Meksyku, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem 16 stanów, w których koncentruje się jego działalność. W analizie uwzględniono okres od połowy lat osiemdziesiątych XX wieku do ostatniego spisu przemysłowego w 2014 roku. W tym czasie zaszły zasadnicze zmiany w polityce rządu względem tego sektora, zrywające ze strategią jego rozwoju na bazie rynku wewnętrznego na korzyść zwiększania produkcji eksportowej. W celu określenia znaczenia sektora motoryzacyjnego w poszczególnych stanach wzięto pod uwagę wielkość zatrudnienia oraz udział w wartości dodanej brutto (WDB). Przeprowadzone badania pozwoliły stwierdzić, iż wraz ze zmianą międzynarodowych i krajowych uwarunkowań rozwoju przemysłu samochodowego, prowadzących do zmian w jego przestrzennym rozmieszczeniu, odegrał on bardzo ważną rolę w rozwoju społeczno-gospodarczym stanów będących w ostatnich dwóch dekadach miejscami nowych inwestycji związanych z tym sektorem. Równocześnie zmniejszyło się jego znaczenie w rozwoju tych stanów, w których zlokalizowane były zakłady w początkowej fazie jego rozwoju.
The aim of this paper is to determine the evolution of the position of the automobile industry in the socio-economic development of Mexico, with particular focus on 16 states, which concentrates its main activities. The analysis included the period from the mid 1980s to the last industrial census in 2014. During this period, there was a significant change in government policy towards the sector, breaking with the strategy of its development based on the internal market in favour of increasing export production. In order to determine the importance of the automotive sector in analysed states the changes in the level of employment and share in the gross value added (GVA) were taken into account. The study led to the conclusion that with the change of international and domestic conditions of the development of the automotive industry, which led to changes in the spatial distribution, this industry has played a very important role in socio-economic development of these Mexican states which in the past two decades were places of new investments in this sector. At the same time automotive sector decreased its importance in the development of these states, where the plants were located in the initial phase of its development.

Branża motoryzacyjna stanowi jeden z filarów polskiej gospodarki, mający duży udział w wytwarzaniu wartości dodanej brutto, utrzymywaniu miejsc pracy i przyczynia się do zwiększania nakładów na wdrażanie innowacji. Po kilku słabszych latach spowodowanych ostatnim kryzysem finansowym możemy zauważyć, że polski przemysł motoryzacyjny, a zwłaszcza nakłady na innowacje, które są meritum analizowanego w niniejszej pracy problemu, wzrastają. Celem opracowania jest przeprowadzenie ewaluacji struktury rodzajowej innowacji i nakładów poniesionych na jej wdrażanie w sektorze motoryzacyjnym w latach 2015–2017. Przedmiotem badania są przedsiębiorstwa funkcjonujące w branży na skalę międzynarodową oraz na rodzimym polskim rynku. Zakres obejmuje charakterystykę działalności innowacyjnej w sferze procesowej i produktowej. Na podstawie dostępnych danych przeprowadzono krytyczną analizę materiałów źródłowych, wpływu struktury wydatków na działalność w sferze badawczo-rozwojowej, przebadano nakłady przeznaczane na innowacje w branży, a także dokonano oceny sytuacji na rynku w dziedzinie wdrażania innowacyjnych rozwiązań.
The automotive industry is one of the pillars of the Polish economy, having a large share in generating gross value added, maintaining jobs and contributes to increasing expenditure on implementing innovation. After a few weaker years caused by the recent financial crisis, we can see that the Polish automotive industry, and especially the expenditure on innovation, which is the merits of the problem analyzed in this paper, is increasing. The priority goal of the study is to evaluate the structure of innovation type and expenditure incurred for its implementation in the automotive sector in 2015–2017. The subject of the study are companies operating in the industry on an international scale, as well as on the domestic Polish market. Based on the available data, a critical analysis of source materials was carried out, the structure of expenditure on research and development activities was analyzed, expenditure on innovation in the industry was examined, and the market situation was assessed in the field of implementing highly innovative solutions.

Sustainable supplier development helps to improve mutually the supplier’s as well as the buying company sustainability performance. The producer could choose guidance, compliance or capacity building activities to develop its supplier or implement them all. This paper aims to present how the car producers practice sustainable supplier development taking into account different types of approaches and implementation tools. The authors applied content analysis to investigate approaches of six car producers from EU member states. The data was collected from the sustainability reports and complemented with the available information of the supplier sustainability requirements and the code of conduct of each car producer. The findings revealed that analysed car producers use similar approaches to develop their suppliers in the context of sustainability. All of them use mix of activities from all identified categories and collaborate within industry initiatives devoted to spread sustainability in supply chain.

Zaprezentowano fakty świadczące o atrakcyjności Polski jako miejsca szczególnie istotnego dla inwestycji przemysłu silnikowego, wskazując jednocześnie na obszary, w których posiada ona przewagę konkurencyjną w odniesieniu do innych państw. Ukazano przyczyny takiego stanu i potencjalne możliwości technologiczne, ekologiczne i ekonomiczne polskich jednostek naukowych i przemysłu w zakresie konstruowania i produkcji nowoczesnych silników spalinowych do napędu pojazdów trakcyjnych i urządzeń stacjonarnych.
The paper presents the international position of Poland as a manufacturing of internal combustion engines on the background of the world trends. Facts that Poland is an attractive place for the engine industry investments have been presented. Authors also pointed at the areas in which Poland dominates with reference to other countries. Causes of that state and potential technological, ecological and economical opportunities of the Polish scientific units and industry in the field of designing and production of modern internal combustion engines for traction vehicle and stationary machines have been described.

As early as in 2000, Colombia was considered a highly politically unstable country in which a long-standing armed conflict between the army and various guerrilla groups and drug traffickers had been going on for a long time. These conditions hampered economic development, limited the development of industry and negatively affected consumer behaviour of inhabitants. The peace talks initiated at the beginning of the 21st century led to a gradual stabilisation of the internal situation in the country, which became an impulse for accelerating economic development and improving consumer moods. The automotive industry was one of those sectors of the economy that gained a strong development impulse. This was reflected in the increase in employment and production of new cars, which in the period 2000–2017 increased significantly. The sales of new cars grew even more dynamically which was associated with an increase in imports and a deterioration in the trade balance of this sector. The main objective of this study is to determine the impact of political stability and the associated improvement in the economic situation in Colombia on the development of the car industry driven by the growth in sales of new vehicles. Efforts were also made to determine the impact of the level of economic development and road infrastructure on the regional diversification of sales of new cars.
Jeszcze w 2000 roku Kolumbia uznawana była za kraj wysoce niestabilny politycznie, w którym od dłuższego czasu trwał konflikt zbrojny między wojskiem a różnymi grupami partyzanckimi oraz handlarzami narkotyków. Utrudniało to rozwój gospodarczy, ograniczało rozwój przemysłu i negatywnie wpływało na zachowania konsumenckie ludności. Zapoczątkowane na początku XXI wieku rozmowy pokojowe doprowadziły do stopniowego ustabilizowania sytuacji wewnętrznej w kraju, co stało się impulsem do przyspieszenia rozwoju gospodarczego oraz poprawy nastrojów konsumenckich. Przemysł samochodowy był jednym z tych sektorów gospodarki, które zyskały zdecydowany impuls rozwojowy. Znalazło to swoje odzwierciedlenie we wzroście zatrudnienia oraz produkcji nowych samochodów, które w latach 2000–2017 znacząco wzrosły. Jeszcze dynamiczniej wzrosła sprzedaż nowych aut, co wiązało się ze wzrostem importu i pogorszeniem bilansu handlowego tego sektora. Głównym celem jest określenie wpływu stabilizacji politycznej i związanej z nią poprawy sytuacji gospodarczej w Kolumbii na rozwój przemysłu samochodowego napędzany wzrostem sprzedaży nowych pojazdów. Starano się również określić wpływ poziomu rozwoju gospodarczego i infrastruktury drogowej na regionalne zróżnicowanie sprzedaży nowych samochodów.

W artykule została przedstawiona koncepcja wytwarzania produktów w zgodzie z założeniami zrównoważonego rozwoju. W pierwszej części artykułu omówiono istotę koncepcji zrównoważonego wytwarzania oraz wskazano wybrane praktyki w tym obszarze. W dalszej kolejności zaprezentowano przykład opracowania przez przedsiębiorstwo branży motoryzacyjnej zestawu wskaźników do pomiaru swoich osiągnięć w zakresie zrównoważonego wytwarzania.
This paper presents the concept of manufacturing products consistent with the assumptions of sustainable development idea. In the first part of the article the essence of the concept of sustainable manufacturing is discusses as well as selected practices in this area are identified. Subsequently, an example of development of a set of indicators to measure performance of sustainable manufacturing process in a company from the automotive industry is presented.

Celem artykułu jest zasygnalizowanie istniejących ograniczeń formalnych i pożądanych perspektywicznych kierunków zmian, co w przyszłości prowadzić może do zweryfikowania obecnie promowanych działań ekonomicznych w zakresie rozwoju rynku elektromobilności w Polsce.
The article attempts to signal the issue of economic barriers to the development of the electromobility market in Poland. The discussion was based on an analysis of a document created by the Ministry of Energy or the Program for the Development of Electromobility in Poland. The aim of the article is to signal the existing formal limitations and desirable prospective directions of changes, which in the future may lead to the verification of currently promoted economics activities in the field of development of the electromobility market in Poland.
