Student-directed teaching and assessment techniques are gradually dominating educational systems almost all over the world. This study investigated a cohort of male and female Iranian EFL students’ attitudes toward self-, peer-, and teacher-assessment experiences. Sixty three students at Urmia University and Tabriz Islamic Azad University, in the form of three intact classes, experienced self-, peer-, and teacher assessment activities for one academic semester (having taken a knowledge pretest, four assessment series, and a course achievement posttest). Of all the participants, 38 completed a 5-point Likert-scale attitude questionnaire. The application of ANOVA, across and within group dependent samples t tests, as well as some qualitative analyses, indicated that the three experimental groups had positive attitudes toward their assessment experiences. While the peer-assessment group was the most positive in this regard, slight differences were found in the groups’ attitudes and beliefs. Further findings and implications are discussed in the paper.

The purpose of this two-wave longitudinal study was to investigate cross-lagged relations between sexual attitudes, perception of love and sex, and young adults’ relationship status over a period of one year. The current study tested two hypotheses: the first hypothesis assuming that sexual attitudes, perception of love and sex can be predictive of relationship status after a one-year interval; and the second hypothesis assuming that relationship status at T1 can be predictive of sexual attitudes and perception of love and sex after a one-year interval. Results from 117 Polish young adults (94 females and 23 males) aged 20–33 (M = 21.42, SD = 1.79) indicated that the conviction that sex is no longer as much a part of the relationship as it used to be (i.e., Sex is Declining scale) measured in the first assessment was a significant predictor of relationship status after a one-year interval. Furthermore, sexual attitudes and perception of love and sex at T1 were found to be predictive of sexual attitudes and perception of love and sex at T2. In addition, gender at T1 was predictive of instrumentality at T2, while being female at T1 related to higher instrumentality at T2.

W swoich rozważaniach teoretycznych i w badaniach empirycznych podejmował także ważne zagadnienia mieszczące się w ramach socjologii moralności. W niniejszym artykule zostały omówione z tej dziedziny następujące zagadnienia: socjologia Dekalogu, socjologia postaw prospołecznych młodzieży i osób dorosłych oraz socjologia moralności życia małżeńskiego i rodzinnego. W Polsce wielu socjologów religii w swoich badaniach empirycznych przyjmuje moralność jako ważny wymiar (dymensja) religijności. Do nich należy także i profesor Świątkiewicz, łączący w swoich badaniach empirycznych obydwie perspektywy socjologiczne.
Prof. Wojciech Krzysztof Świątkiewicz is, above all, a sociologist of culture and a sociologist of religion. In his theoretical considerations and empirical research, he also took up important issues within the framework of the sociology of morality. In these considerations, we will discuss the following issues in this field: the sociology of the Decalogue, the sociology of pro-social attitudes of young people and adults, and the sociology of morality in marriage and family life. In Poland, many sociologists of religion in their empirical research take morality as an important dimension (dimension) of religiosity. One of them is also Professor Świątkiewicz, who combines both sociological perspectives in his empirical research.

Objectives: Depression is acommon mental health disorder. The aim of this study is to determine the level of public awareness regarding this illness, its symptoms, associated factors, available forms of treatment, and the attitude towards depressed people. Methods: A self administered questionnaire was filled in by approximately 5000 individuals selected from various regions of Jordan. Results: The majority of participants thought that depression is a treatable condition that can affect patient at any age, and may be controlled by the will power. Loss of interest in things and presence of negative feelings were the most commonly recognized symptoms of depression, while, unemployment and poverty were found to be the most recognized risk factors for depression. In addition, most participants considered support from family and friends (93.6%) as well as exercise (80.4%) to be the best available forms of depression treatment. Respondents found it acceptable to work, make friends with, or marry depressed individuals. The first choice persons for seeking help by most participants were family members and friends (49.8%). Conclusion: Collectively, the level of awareness of depression was acceptable. However, further efforts are necessary to establish public educational programs related to depression in order to raise awareness regarding the disease.

This paper reports the first investigation in the second language acquisition field assessing learners’ implicit attitudes using the Implicit Association Test, a computerized reaction-time measure. Examination of the explicit and implicit attitudes of Arab learners of English (N = 365) showed that, particularly for males, implicit attitudes toward L2 speakers are associated with self-reported openness to the L2 group and with strength of correlations among attitudinal and motivational variables. Implicit attitudes also moderated important paths in the L2 Motivational Self System. The paper concludes that implicit attitudes seem to be a meaningful individual difference variable, adding a new dimension to our understanding of language motivation.

This paper investigates the attitudinal/motivational predictors of second language (L2) academic achievement. Young adult learners of English as a foreign language (N = 311) completed several self-report measures and the SingleTarget Implicit Association Test. Examination of the motivational profiles of high and low achievers revealed that attachment to the L1 community and the ought-to L2 self were negatively associated with achievement, while explicit attitudes toward the L2 course and implicit attitudes toward L2 speakers were positively associated with it. The relationship between implicit attitudes and achievement could not be explained either by social desirability or by other cognitive confounds, and remained significant after controlling for explicit self-report measures. Explicit–implicit congruence also revealed a similar pattern, in that congruent learners were more open to the L2 community and obtained higher achievement. The results also showed that neither the ideal L2 self nor intended effort had any association with actual L2 achievement, and that intended effort was particularly prone to social desirability biases. Implications of these findings are discussed.

Wprowadzenie: Wrodzona łamliwość kości (osteogenesis imperfecta – OI) jest rzadką chorobą kości. Etiologia jej obejmuje defekt genów odpowiedzialnych za produkcję kolagenu typu I lub mutacji genów białek zaangażowanych w jego potranslacyjną obróbkę. Pacjenci doświadczają nawracających złamań kości długich i kręgów oraz trudności funkcjonalnych innych narządów. Cel: Ocena postaw rodziców wobec pacjentów pediatrycznych z rozpoznaniem OI. Materiał i metody: Przebadano 102 osoby (51 rodziców pacjentów z wrodzoną łamliwością kości oraz 51 opiekunów dzieci z rozpoznaniem nieprawidłowości gospodarki wapniowo-fosforanowej). Zastosowano Skalę Postaw Rodzicielskich M. Plopy oraz autorską ankietę socjometryczną. Wyniki: Wykazano brak istotnych statystycznie różnic w ocenie nasilenia postaw rodziców wobec dzieci z OI (wrodzoną łamliwością kości) oraz z NG Ca-P (nieprawidłowościami gospodarki wapniowo-fosforanowej). Opiekunów charakteryzuje wysoki poziom akceptacji, przeciętne nasilenie wymagań, autonomii i ochrony oraz mała niekonsekwencja wobec chorych dzieci. Wnioski: Rodzice dzieci z OI mają potencjał tworzenia dobrych warunków do rozwoju swoich chorych dzieci, a pozytywne postawy są korzystnym czynnikiem sprzyjającym prawidłowej adaptacji dzieci do życia.
Introduction: Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is a rare, disease of bone. Its etiology includes the occurrence a defect in the genes that produce type I collagen or mutations in the genes of proteins involved in its post-translational processing. Patients experience recurrent fractures in long bones and vertebrae as well as functional difficulties of other systems and organs. Aim: Assessment of parents’ attitudes towards pediatric patients diagnosed with OI. Material and methods: 102 people 51 parents of patients with OI and 51 caregivers of children with calcium-phosphate abnormalities were examined. The Parental Attitude Scale by M. Plopa and the proprietary sociometric survey were used. Results: There were no statistically significant differences in the assessment of the severity of parents’ attitudes towards children with OI (osteogenesis imperfecta) and Ca-P A (calcium-phosphate abnormalities). The guardians are characterized by a high level of acceptance, average level of requirements, autonomy and protection, and low inconsistency towards sick children. Conclusions: Parents of children with OI have the potential to create good conditions for the development of their sick children and positive attitudes are beneficial factors contributing proper adaptation of their children to life.

The coronavirus pandemic has forced the world to deal with distance learning. This article discusses distance learning in the kindergartens in Israel from the perspective of kindergarten teachers. The research was carried out after the first wave of the virus, in March 2020, and its problems was: What is the attitude of the kindergarten teachers in Israel to distance learning? The research used a linear (differential semantic) questionnaire that measures the degree to which they agree with statements related to distance learning in the cognitive, behavioral, and emotional aspects. The questionnaire was filled out by 213 kindergarten teachers. The research attempts to conclude about the kindergar- ten teachers’ perception of distance learning.

The phenomenon of achieving or experiencing professional satisfaction carries a multitude of possibilities of interpretation. It is also determined by various factors. In this paper we assume that job satisfaction is an important aspect of teachers’ work quality. Perception of their work and the degree of work satisfaction affect the professional activity of teachers – the level of involvement and identification with the profession, creativity, motivation for development. The aim of the study, the results of which are presented in this article, is to search for relationships between autotelic and normative attitudes of teachers towards work and their work satisfaction. The study, which involved 367 teachers employed in Polish universities, is on linear relations and uses a hierarchical multiple regression analysis. The results of these studies made it possible to identify the main predictors of contemporary academics’ job satisfaction and confirmed the fact that the satisfaction is in the area of teaching and research, and depends – to a greater extent – on the presented attitude towards work rather than received social support and work atmosphere. Interpersonal relationships in the workplace, however, proved a major determinant of the level of satisfaction with the organizational work for the university.

Opis:
Reducing the quantities of food lost or wasted will be an emerging challenge in coming years. The sector contributing the most to food waste is households. The aim of this study is to evaluate consumer behavior on the food market in the context of wastage identification and assessment of consumer opinions in Poland regarding the causes of the problem of food waste in households. A quantitative study was carried out using individual direct questionnaire interviews (N = 1,145). Results showed that Polish consumer opinions regarding reasons for wasting food vary according to demographic and economic conditions. The least educated consumers and families with several children were found to be guided by economic premises in their purchases more often than other groups and plan their purchases more rationally. The causes of food wastage related to irrational behavior were more often named by consumers with higher standards of living and by the younger generation.

The article presents two studies validating the dimensional model of parenting by Skinner, Johnson, and Snyder (2005). This model synthesizes various constructs related to parent-child relations from the recent literature. On the basis of a broad literature review, this model distinguishes three conceptual dimensions:warmth – rejection, structure – chaos, and autonomy support – coercion. Skinner et al. (2005)’s model was intended to integrate a number of theoretical constructs of parent-child relations. Thus, the distinguishability of its constituent parts is key. The following article describes a validation of the model in Poland. The first study was carried out on a sample of 969 adolescents, and the second – on a sample of 269 parents. In the adolescent sample, the measurement model achieved a good fit to data, but the individual constructs were highly intercorrelated, which weakened the rationale for distinguishing them. In the parent sample, high correlations between the constructs led to a poor fit to data. Thus, only a general measure of parent-child relation quality was obtained. A bi-factor analysis was also ran to determine the role of specific factors generated alongside the general factor. The validation was a partial success in the parent sample, for which a short version of the questionnaire measuring warmth, structure, and autonomy support was developed.

This paper identified attitudes toward CALL of students studying English as a foreign language (EFL) at industrial colleges in Saudi Arabia. Seventy students who were enrolled in the orientation year of an English program were chosen to participate in this study by expressing their attitudes toward CALL. Standardized and local instruments were used along with interviews and observation techniques to collect data. The results of the study revealed that students had positive attitudes toward CALL. Looking at the daily hours students spend using a computer, a slight correlation was found between this variable and the students’ attitudes toward CALL. Other variables, such as students’ background knowledge of English, ownership of a computer, and their computer knowledge, were found to be irrelevant to their attitudes toward CALL. These results were in line with previous research conducted by Al-Shammari (2007), Alrumaih (2004), and Almekhlafi (2006). The results reinforced conclusions about CALL revealed by researchers, such as Chen (2003), Chikamatsu (2003), Egbert (2005) and Levy (2005), who found that it helps students learn better and more independently, and gives them the ability to have more control of their learning and to have more opportunities to practice English.

Polish version of Colquitt's Organizational Justice Measure
Opis:
Objectives Organizational justice is an important predictor of employees’ well-being and job performance. Colquitt’s Organizational Justice Measure (OJM) was designed to assess four aspects of justice – distributive, procedural, interpersonal and informational. The lack of a Polish version of the tool, however, has precluded its application in Poland. The objective of this study was to test the psychometric properties of the OJM in a Polish sample. Material and methods The validating study was conducted on 2 participant samples (N = 209 and N = 659), employed in public and private companies. Both the exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses (EFA, CFA) as well as the estimation of internal consistency with Cronbach’s α method were conducted. Predictive validity was assessed by correlating organizational justice with job-related factors and outcomes, including job resources and counterproductive work behavior. Results The EFA and CFA supported a 4-dimension model of the OJM Polish version. This model indicated a better fit to data than the alternatively tested 1-factor, 2-factor and 3-factor models. The internal consistency of the scales was satisfactory, ranging 0.81–0.93 for various subscales. As expected, the overall organizational justice and the four subscales correlated positively with job resources and negatively with counterproductive work behavior. Conclusions The Polish version of OJM has satisfactory psychometric properties and may be useful in assessing organizational justice in a Polish setting.
