Opis:
Fertility decline in developed countries over recent five decades and persisting low fertility in the remarkable number of countries are increasingly attributed to changing gender roles, particularly to incompatibilities between institutional adjustments of individual- and family- oriented institutions as well as within the family and changing perceptions on social roles of women and men. These arguments are voiced also when debating on low fertility in Poland. The article focuses on perceptions of gender roles and their diversity across population groups which differ by socio-demographic attributes. Additionally, possible influences of parental home on opinions about gender roles are accounted for. The data coming from the Generations and Gender Survey, carried out in Poland in 2010/2011, made it possible to define two synthetic variables which described attitudes towards gender equality in the social sphere and in the private sphere (a responsibility for a child). Descriptive results confirmed findings of other studies: the gender attitudes are more diversified among women than men, especially as regards gender equality in the social sphere, women show more egalitarian attitudes than men, and within an age increase a social approval for gender equality declines. The generalized linear mixed models of two synthetic gender variables were used to identify predictors of gender attitudes across two birth cohorts of women and men – those born either in the years 1950–1969 or in the years 1970–1989. Among individual characteristics education, religiosity and place of residence were found out – as expected – the main predictors of gender attitudes. Contrary to expectations, labour market status, marital status and a number of children did not always play a significant role for distinguished cohorts of men and women. Economic activity showed its impact on women’s gender attitudes only. There are also some signs that in the 1970–1989 cohorts younger people are less in favour of gender equality than those over 30 years of age. Parental home attributes (place of residence at age 15, mother’ education and mother’s economic acitivity, number of siblings, and religiosity) were displayed as relevant predictors of gender attitudes for both birth cohorts of men and women. However, paid work of a mother seemed to be a weaker predictor than expected.

Understanding the activity of the minds of consumers is one of the main questions tried to be solved by many scientists in the field of consumer research. Still studies are often based on tests of self-assessment, observation, often ignoring the unconscious behavior of consumers. Often the decision-making processes largely occur on a subconscious level . (G. Zaltmann, 2003) Moreover, only 5% of knowledge is conscious knowledge. Unconscious processes, allow users faster and more efficient decisions than would be possible with a fully conscious processing of the stimulus. The financial services market is one of the most important elements of a market economy. In addition, the financial services market undergoes dynamic changes and at the same time there are no studies of the actual attitudes of consumers (both conscious and hidden) in relation to a virtual financial services, in particular in respect of the banking services market, which is one of the fastest growing high-tech service markets. After secondary sources analysis, projection methods research was made. For the purposes of research, special test was prepared including projection techniques like association expression and supplement tests. This method enabled preliminary identification of hidden and conscious consumer attitudes towards virtual banking services and to introduce first conclusions for further research.

Implicit attitudes toward elderly persons espoused by three age groups: young, middle-aged, and old adultsThe purpose of this paper was to describe the implicit attitudes toward elderly in general, and its typical patterns in three age groups: young, middle and old adults. The research is grounded in a sample of 90 subjects divided into three sub-groups homogeneous in terms of sex. They reflect criteria of early adulthood (n = 30), middle adulthood (n = 30), and late adulthood (n = 30). To measure implicit attitudes affective and semantic priming procedure was used. The activation of ageism and aging stereotypes was investigated by manipulating both the valence and the stereotypicality of trait stimuli. Research findings show that implicit attitudes toward old persons are in general neither negative nor positive, but in age groups of middle and old adults they are stereotypical. In these groups implicit ageing stereotypes are complex: both negative and positive. These findings suggest that implicit attitudes toward elderly persons are ambivalent.

Opis:
Polish Ministry of Health estimates that the number of HIV positive people may be reaching 35 thousand. Despite widespread educational campaign, attitudes towards the HIV positive are still varied. The problem also refers to health service employees The aim of the study was to examine attitudes of nurses, the second degree nursing students at the University of Humanities and Economics in Wloclawek (UHE), employed by various health care institutions, towards HIV infected patients and patients with AIDS. The studies were carried out in a group of 97 nurses, based on our own anonymous survey questionnaire developed by the authors of the study, at the University of Humanities and Economics in Wloclawek (Cuiavian Uniwersity in Wloclawek). The study results demonstrate that the feeling of threat and of fear of becoming infected with HIV is quite strong among the nursing students at the UHE in Wloclawek. The study has proved that the nursing staff’s age, marital status, years of service, and the availability of personal protective equipment at the workplace as well as post-exposure procedures at work have the influence on the attitude towards HIV-positive patients, whereas such an impact was not identified in reference to the workplace of the respondents. It has been also proved that the attitudes are strongly affected by the level of knowledge demonstrated by nurses, in contrast nurses’ additional qualifications have no effect in that matter. Although most respondents declared positive and indifferent attitude towards HIV/AIDS patients, how ever some specific attitudes resulting from the survey arise authors’ concern. It can be concluded that the main cause of this condition can be, despite their knowledge of the medium level of the scope of HIV/AIDS, their participation in an insufficient number of professional trainings carried out by experts with knowledge based on experience in that field. The ability for nurses to contact from time to time competent trainers, can play a significant role in shaping the attitudes and behaviours among nurses as well as among other health service system employees.
Choć większość respondentów deklarowała pozytywne i obojętne nastawienie do pacjentów seropozytywnych, to jednak konkretne postawy wynikające z ankiety budzą niepokój autorów.

Opis:
Students’ attitudes towards entrepreneurship are an important issue in entrepreneurial education. They include cognitive, emotional and behavioural aspects that influence students’ willingness to start their own business. Diagnosis of students’ entrepreneurial attitudes is crucial for the preparation of appropriate training programmes. In this paper, some commonly used proverbs and phrases (referred to as metaphors) are proposed as a diagnostic method for the assessment of entrepre neurial attitudes and as a pragmatic method that can be used to form proactive entrepreneurial attitudes. The aim of the study was to verify that entrepreneurial metaphors described in the literature are up to date and to identify current metaphors pertaining to running a new business as perceived by business students. The authors’ original questionnaire was used to evaluate the accuracy of known metaphors (4-point Likert’s scale) and to identify student’s own metaphors. Statistical analysis of obtained results (the t-Student test for one group was used) showed that the most accurate metaphors related to entrepreneurship were related to its perception as a management process, hard work, overcoming obstacles and competition. Analysis of metaphors created by the respondents allowed to identify three dominant categories of entrepreneurial activities: overcoming obstacles and barriers, taking risk in uncertain environment and proactivity understood as responsibility for the new venture development. The research resulted in a catalogue of current entrepreneurship metaphors and in the list of recommendations for entrepreneurial education. We also presented an example of the such usage in practice.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine the attitudes of a group of nurses towards lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals. Materials and methods: This cross-sectional study was carried out with 358 nurses working in a hospital in the northern region of Turkey between December 2016- February 2017. The data were collected using the personal information form and the Hudson and Ricketts Homophobia Scale. Kruskal Wallis, Mann Whitney U test, Single Factor Variance Analysis, ttest and correlation were used in the analysis of the data. Ethical approval was obtained from the Clinical Research Ethics Committee of an university. Results: The mean score of the scale of the nurses was found as 111.5±20.7. Nurses who stated that they did not want to communicate with lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people were found to be more homophobic than the nurses who stated that they wanted to communicate with them. It was also found that the nurses who define themselves as ‘traditional’ were more homophobic than those who define themselves as ‘not traditional’ (p <0.05).The relationship between the nurses' knowledge towards lesbian, gay, bisexual and transsexual individuals and their attitudes towards these individuals was found to be significant similar to the previous international studies. Conclusions: The findings of this study indicate that the level of education, the level of acquaintance with LGBT individuals and the knowledge of LGBT individuals has an effect on the homophobic attitude

Introduction: Emotional intelligence can be determined by various factors related to the functioning of the family and the parents, including the parenting attitudes they display. Prior research confirms the relationship between some parenting attitudes and children’s emotional intelligence, though it has chiefly focused on adolescents. The aim of the presented research was to determine whether a relationship between emotional intelligence and parenting attitudes retrospectively evaluated by young adults exists, while taking into consideration the parent’s and the child’s gender, as well as the family characteristics. Method: Two hundred and fifty seven young adults, aged 20–25, students of various universities, were tested with the Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire (INTE) by Schutte, Malouff, Hall, Haggerty, Cooper, Golden, and Dornheim, adapted into Polish and standardized by Jaworowska and Matczak, as well as with the Retrospective Evaluation of Parenting Attitudes Questionnaire (KPR-Roc) by Plopa. The study also controlled for de-mographic factors. Results: A positive relationship exists between the mothers’ attitudes of acceptance/ rejection and autonomy and their daughters’ emotional intelligence and ability to utilize emotions in thinking and behavior. No relationship between the mothers’ parenting attitudes and the young women’s ability to recognize emotions was found. A weak relationship between the mothers’ attitude of acceptance and their sons’ emotional intelligence exists. Participants from conjugal families rated their mothers’ attitudes of acceptance/rejection, demands, and lack of consistency, as well as their fathers’ attitudes of acceptance/ rejection, autonomy, and lack of consistency more favorably than did participants from non-conjugal families. The relationship between parenting attitudes and children’s emotional intelligence can be determined by the type of the family of origin.

The trend of inclusive education and the education of pupils with special educational needs puts increased demands also on the teacher training. The researches have so far proved that appropriate acting and responses of teachers require far more than just plain knowledge. Some authors highlight the teachers' attitudes as a crucial component for a successful integration of pupils with special educational needs into the classes. In her theoretical study, the author focuses on a research aimed at the attitudes of teacher trainees towards inclusive education. She emphasizes the importance of developing pro-inclusive attitudes among teachers-to-be before they actually enter the profession.

It is indisputable that emotions predominate in shaping political attitudes. This is corroborated by the development of political marketing, whose techniques and means are mainly directed at voters’ emotions. The paper presents the results of research into the affective component in the political attitudes of university students. To a large extent the analysis confirms the hypothesis that religious organizations have a significant impact on developing a positive emotional attitude towards right-wing politicians and parties, whereas the media strongly influence the emergence of similar attitudes towards liberal political entities. Advocates of the right wing declare their commitment to national values and patriotism, while demonstrating a relatively passive attitude to politics. The respondents whose opinions indicate liberal sympathies emphasize their satisfaction with life and intention to be active in the field of politics. The important conclusion to be drawn from this research is that the family contin- ues to have a significant impact on the emotional political attachments of the young, whereas the influence of school in this regard is definitely limited.

Studies concerning a social acceptance of violent behaviors in education are an important factor in actions directed to eliminate the problem. Social attitudes towards using violence in educational agenda are an important cultural background of its existence. They are postulated by various reports and recommendations as allowing to monitor conditions of the problem of violence in upbringing, and, indirectly, also its occurrence. The article presents in a form of a report the results of country-wide studies from year 2017 carried out in Polish society. The dynamics of basic parameters of these attitudes, monitored for the last couple of years, is depicted. In a dimension of theoretical context of the text, there is a reference to the newest research regarding drawbacks of physical punishment and a need to counteract those. Data from own research conducted for Children’s Rights Spokesperson show, on one hand, a constantly alarmingly high level of approval of violent behaviors against children used in their upbringing, and on the other hand, there are noticed positive tendencies of a decrease, suggesting generational changes and a turning point in an approval of violence in a relatively short period of time, which suggest an effectiveness of the actions undertaken in order to change the attitudes.

Aim: The aim of the study was an analysis of a relationship between parental attitudes and a tendency to impulsive aggression with a consideration of a mediating role of alexithymia. Method: The experiment used the following scales: Parental Bonding Instrument, Toronto Alexithymia Scale, and The Aggression Questionnaire, BPAQ. The study’s sample was a randomly selected group of people. There were 197 participants aged between 22 and 43 years old (M = 34.42; SD = 5.47). There were slightly more females (53.8%) than males. In terms of educational history, there were mostly people with higher education (74.1%), there rest were participants with mid-level education (14.2%) and at a bachelor’s level (11.7%). Results: As a result of conducted analysis, correlations, regression, and mediation, a moderate relationship between maternal control and difficulties with emotional identification and father’s control and alexithymia as a whole and, separately, with an operative way of thinking were identified. Maternal control is associated with a development of a tendency to hostility. In turn, father’s control increases a tendency to physical aggression, hostility, and anger. Alexithymia is strongly connected with physical aggression, hostility and anger and is a significant mediator in a relationship between maternal and father’s control and various aspects of aggression, increasing its intensity. Age correlates positively with alexithymia intensity. Conclusions: The current experiments suggests an existence of strong relationships between parental attitudes, mainly control, and a tendency to a development of alexithymia and also a tendency to various types of aggression. Alexithymia, blocking processes of emotional identification and verbalisation, results in a language no longer serving regulation and impulse control, increasing therefore a risk of aggressive behaviours. The current experiment suggests, that in the following research, there should be included also other dimensions of emotional regulation when looking at relationships between parental attitudes, alexithymia, and aggression.

Opis:
Introduction: People who are homeless are most often unable to acquire and maintain regular, safe, secure, and adequate housing, or they lack a “fixed, regular, and adequate night-time residence”. Purpose: To assess the attitude of secondaryschool students, high-school students, university students, and working adults towards homeless people. Materials and methods: A survey of 420 randomly selected middle school students (n=120), high school students (n=100), university students (n=100), and working adults (n=100) was conducted. Nearly half of the participants reported a fear of homeless people. Results: According to the majority of respondents, a homeless person collects scrap metal and waste paper, and also begs. The first words that come to mind when a majority of people think of the homeless were: poor, unhappy, dirty, lonely, and smelly. The participants reported the main reasons for homelessness to be: joblessness, family problems, alcohol, helplessness, and avoiding work. The majority of respondents argued that social and legal problems are the main reasons that it is difficult for homeless people to extricate themselves from their situation. The groups surveyed had a variety of opinions about homelessness. According to most respondents, a homeless person is a poor, miserable, lonely, childless man with a vocational education who begs, collects scrap metal and waste paper, and is also usually dirty and smelly. Conclusions: In the survey groups, respondents’ opinions about homelessness varied.

Opis:
Introduction: The lesson as the basic methodical unit is the most important link in the process of physical education. The aim of the research was to learn the organization and course of physical activities in early school teaching, teacher’s work and attitudes, and students’ attitudes towards lessons. Material and methods: The research used focused, public participant observation, which covered 128 lesson units in 19 randomly selected primary schools in Krakow. To describe the obtained qualitative data, the statement of numbers and percentages and the percent chart were used. Results: Most physical education lessons were held in the gym. A large part of physical activities were carried out contrary to the principles of building the lesson. There was also a lack of individualization of requirements for students, the use of praise and grades for correctly performed exercises, and the enforcement of instructions given to students. Almost half the lesson was unattractive. During the classes very good treatment of students by teachers was visible. Conclusions: In addition to well-conducted preparatory activities before PE, a number of organizational and methodological errors were noted. Teachers’ attitudes towards tasks related to conducting physical activities were not satisfactory. The attitude of students to the duties related to participation in physical education lessons was positive.
Materiał i metody: W badaniach zastosowano ukierunkowaną, jawną obserwację uczestniczącą, którą objęto 128 jednostek lekcyjnych w 19 losowo dobranych krakowskich szkołach podstawowych.

Opis:
Observation of reality shows that the attitude of today's society towards the elderly is very heterogenous and ambivalent. Both positive and negative attitudes can be observed. What is more, one can talk about attitudes of indifference and a certain social distance. The main goal of the research is to show how attitudes towards the elderly are shaped in our society and whether demographic variables such as gender, age, marital status, place of residence, or level of education differentiate these attitudes. Can we talk about the formation of certain patterns among the younger generation, which create the image of older people in adults? The sample consisted of 1,025 people. The Scale of Attitudes to- wards Seniors (SPWS) by Łukasiewicz and Kowalski was administered. The entire tool consisted of 60 items divided into three sca les: Respect and Support, Rejection and Misunderstanding, and Social Distance. In order to examine the attitudes of the respondents to their grandparents and their role in family life, seven self-authored statements were attached to the questionnaire. The analysis of the obtained results shows no significant differences between positive and negative attitudes towards seniors. All attitudes are at a moderate level. The factors differentiating the intensity of attitudes were: gender, marital status, place of residence, and education level. The indicator of the development of positive attitudes towards seniors was the time spent with grandparents in the past and positive opinions about grandparents provided by par- ents. Earlier intergenerational relations are of no significant importance when it came to the intensification of negative attitudes. The research confirmed the existence of heterogeneous attitudes towards seniors. However, there is no clear advantage of positive attitudes over the negative. The conclusions from the research point to the role of broadly understood education in shaping attitudes towards the elderly. In the age of an ageing society, activities that show the significance of older people for society, and what value they are for all of us, become important. The family and multi- generational relationships play a significant role here.

How do implicit attitudes influence behavior when they are in conflict with explicit attitudes? In Study 1, smokers’ negative implicit attitudes and positive explicit attitudes towards smoking were activated. Then emotions were measured. The stronger the negative implicit attitudes that the smokers held, the stronger the conflict experienced. Study 2 showed that cognitive capacity allows for this conflict, as positive explicit and negative implicit attitudes may be applied simultaneously. The stronger the negative implicit attitudes the smokers held, the stronger the conflict experienced. Smokers resolved the conflict through the inhibition of implicit attitudes (by smoking cigarettes). Without cognitive capacity, only implicit attitudes were applied, and thus no conflict was aroused. Study 3 confirmed that smoking cigarettes inhibited negative implicit attitudes.

The article presents a study concerning the attitudes towards selected prosocial initiatives among the students of various universities in Warsaw in perspective of Melvin Lerner’s just-world fallacy and Roland Inglehart’s postmaterialism theory. The results of the study show that the responsibility for one’s own situation decreases the willingness to support the person in need. The support for proecological initiatives turned out to be low.

Opis:
The implicit attitudes, compared to explicit attitudes moderated by social pressure, play a dominant role in everyday interactions with disabled persons. Therefore, the purpose of the paper is to present the development of Implicit Attitudes Test toward Persons with Visual, Intellectual, and Motor Disabilities (IAT-VIMD). It has been developed to compare the favorization vs devaluation tendency towards non-disabled and disabled adults. We applied photographs showing people in everyday situations to assure spontaneous reactions of the respondents. Ninety-two respondents aged 19–22 years took part in the research. The procedure is based on the IAT (Implicit Association Test) index, developed by Greenwald, McGhee, & Schwartz (1998), i.e. the difference in response time to affective compatible vs non-compatible signals. Statistical analysis confirmed the content validity based on the Competent Judges’ agreement as regards the type of disability, the level of visibility and the level of overall life activity of the object. The external validity was verified with The Conditional Respect for Persons with Disabilities Questionnaire (CRPD-Q) by Kurtek (2018). Next the absolute stability of the test was proved. The presented IAT-VIMD meets the psychometric criteria of content and theoretical validity as well as reliability, and has the potential to become a useful measure of implicit attitudes towards adults with visual, motor and intellectual disabilities in various social groups. The discussion points to the test’s limitations and recommendations for future development and use. In particular, a need for further research on the external validity of the test has been emphasized.

Entrepreneurship constitutes one of the key competences and a significant element of todays’ university graduates’ professional training. Academia, in its didactic and educational process, offers numerous opportunities for shaping students’ entrepreneurial behaviours. A fundamental role in this respect is played by the scope of knowledge and skills offered, as well as by shaping proper attitudes in the course of professional internships, participation in student organisations and science club projects. The present study attempts to evaluate the university’s role in the process of shaping entrepreneurial attitudes of students representing the selected universities in Lublin. Respondents’ opinions, collected by means of a diagnostic poll method and a survey, were analysed. The paper verified the thesis regarding insufficient outcomes of education in developing entrepreneurial competences of students from selected universities.

Opis:
Forecasts indicate that the coming months will be important shift in the ratio between the number of people in the age before the new regulations, deemed production (up to 60 years for women and 65 years for men) and transition. The period after 2020 will be characterized by rapid aging of the population. Society, so their decision-makers, representatives of generation Y are facing a new challenge, taking into account the increasing proportion of mature persons in relation to young people (up to 35 years of age) in the labor market, to answer the questions: how to create the conditions for a sense of social security, the possibility of self-realization and achieving your career goals mature workers as "discounted" the potential and social capital, which gathered in the course of their work. The object of this study is the attitude of the representatives of generation Y to a particular group of mature workers – knowledge workers – teachers. Development seeks to obtain answers to the question: what attitude to teachers 65 plus present representatives of particular groups of communities of learners: postgraduate students, students of public and private universities, Polish and foreign, as well as academics belonging to the generation Y in relation to their older colleagues. Another research problem was getting to know the opinions of younger and older (65 plus) academic teachers on the factors that accompany the high quality of life of research and teaching staff during the period of late adulthood. To answer the questions formulated in this way, research was conducted in a group of students: post-graduate students and academic teachers with a total of 476 people. From this group, 378 represented students and post-graduate students. Among this group, 56 people were students of post-graduate studies at a public university, 74 students of public universities, 103 students of a private university 111 foreign students of a non-public university and 34 – non-public university and didactic employees. There were also 38 academic teachers aged 65 and over in the study group. The study used three diagnostic questions specially developed (with a reliability calculated by Cronbach's alpha coefficient above 0.76) of the Questionnaire Attitudes Towards Academic Teachers aged 65 plus. As a result of the conducted research, it turned out that the attitudes of the majority of respondents to teachers and scholars 65 plus are not burdened with negative stereotypes, and the age of mature people is not a criterion for lowering the assessment of their professionalism. At the same time, it was found that mature academic teachers more than their younger colleagues perceive the negative significance of the age of 65 plus in scientific and didactic work.

Aim:The study aimed at analyzing the relationship between parental attitudes and impulsive aggression, including the mediation role of alexithymia. Method: The following tools were used in the study:Parental Bonding Instru¬ment; Toronto Alexithymia Scale; Buss- Perry Aggression Questionnaire (BPAQ). The study sample was randomly selected from the general population, 197 people aged 22 to 43 (M = 34.42; SD = 5.47) in total. The study sample included slightly more women (53.8%) than men. Considering the level of education, the largest number of people had higher educa-tion (74.1%); the others had secondary education (14.2%) or a bachelor’s degree (11.7%). Results:The analyses – correlation, regression, and mediation – showed a moderate relationship between maternal control and difficulties in identifying emotions as well as between fatherly control and overall alexithymia scores and also separately with one of its components – externally-oriented thinking. Maternal control is associated with the development of hostility. On the other hand, fatherly control increases the tendency to physical aggression, hostility, and anger. Alexithymia is strongly related to physical aggression, hostility, and anger and it is an important mediator between maternal and fatherly control and various aspects of aggression, increasing its intensity. Age correlates positively with the intensity of alexithymia. Conclusions:The study shows strong relationships between parental attitudes, mainly control, and the tendency to develop alexithymia and to various manifestations of aggression. Alexithymia blocks the processes of identification and verbalization of emotions. As a result, the language is no longer used to regulate and control excitement and thus, it increases the risk of aggressive behavior. The results show that future research on the relationship between parental attitudes, alexithymia and aggression shall also include other dimensions of the emotional regulation.

Opis:
Young adults attitudes towards marriageThe nature of marriage interactions – multifaceted relations, their long duration and intensity – makes experiences gathered by adults in contact with their spouse rich developmental source. Functioning in the marriage could be viewed as a developmental task (Havighurst) and as an attempt at positive solution of intimacy crisis (Erikson). It’s interesting how young people see marriage nowadays, how they label it, where they see marriage restrictions and challenges. Answers to these questions are especially important today, in time of dynamic changes in scope of family, when such form of family life as cohabitation and single life grow as a real alternative to institutionalized marriage. Changes associated with the occurrence of family heterogeneousness appear mainly in young generation, subjected to the influence of westernization. The transmission of family life model from western countries takes place in connection with the promotion of individual values, such as independence, autonomy, personal pleasure. In this context the issue of marriage valuation is raised among young adults.
