Opis:
The 2019 PBC document views relationships between parents and children, masters and servants, “shepherds” and “the flock,” civil authority and citizens as asymmetric. The structure of the document suggests that these relationship systems are based on shared human experience and a common theological foundation: they appear to repeat the pattern of the parent-child relationship and originate in the obligation to obey God. Using the document as a starting point, I would like to outline what the concept of asymmetric relationships can mean today. In search of common perspectives, I will compare New Testament texts with the interpretation of asymmetry in today’s social ethics discourse. The inequality and asymmetry of different persons and groups seem to be an undeniable fact, causing tension that can be resolved fruitfully by parties who take responsibility for each other in the presence of a “third.”

Analiza własności bootstrapowych metod estymacji przedziałowej przeprowadzona została metodami Monte Carlo.
In the paper we present some chosen bootstrap methods of interval estimation of the population expectation for asymmetric distribution. We consider the standard bootstrap method, percentile method and t-bootstrap method. These methods can be used to estimate the expected value of asymmetric distribution for, both, small and large sample sizes. The analysis of the properties of bootstrap methods of interval estimation is performed by means of a simulation experiment.

Based on Chebyshov polynomials, one can create an asymmetric cryptosystem that allows for secure communication. Such a cryptosystem is based on the fact that these polynomials form a semi-group due to the composition operation. This article presents two new cryptosystems based on modifications of Chebyshev's polynomials. The presented analysis shows that their security is the same as in the case of algorithms associated with the problem of discrete logarithms. The article also shows methods that allow for the faster calculation of Chebyshev polynomials.

Opis:
In order to describe the environment surrounding us, so complex in terms of relations resulting from using violence, we easily employ terms such as ‘partisan’ or ‘militant’, just in order to define the very same ones as terrorists a while later. Probably the benchmark of contemporary description, especially of political action is the lack of clear-cut attitudes. Terrorism is nothing new, and this statement in itself is not very revealing. However, for many contemporary researchers of this issue, there is never too much information. Terrorism has always accompanied the history of oppressive regimes as well as resistance movements and uprisings. All the same, within the anti- colonial insurrectionary movements of the mid-20th century which led to the fall of European colonial empires over a short period of time, terrorism achieved new quality. It should also be emphasized that it achieved considerable political successes compared to the social-revolutionary terrorism of the late 19th century. The attribute ‘terrorist’ serves as an excluding one in different relations. By employing such term, one that their cause is an unconventional one – leastways as long as specific ways of using violence are applied. On the other hand, groups classified as terrorist ones often describe themselves as partisans who are fighting for the liberation of certain social or ethnic groups and who have to employ “unconventional” methods of using force because of the military superiority of the oppressive regime. By describing certain actions as ‘terrorist’ one usually intends on bereaving it of every sort of political legitimation. Is there any aspect that terrorism and guerrilla actions have in common? In certain socio-revolutionary or ethno-separatist strategies of violence, the concept of terrorism consists in the idea of a ‘starter’ which is to create the conditions to commence the guerrilla war. There could also be groups acting as partisans on one front line, and as terrorists on the other. The example is Al-Qaeda: in Central Asia its network operated only temporarily, as a kind of guerrilla, while in the global scale it employed terrorist strategy.

The paper presents research results on the selection of parameters for the asymmetric rolling process of bimetallic plates 10CrMo9-10+X2CrNiMo17-12-2. They consisted in determining the optimum parameters of the process, which would be ensured to obtain straight bands. Such deformation method introduces in the band the deformations resulting from shear stress, which affect changes in the microstructure. But their effect on the structure is more complicated than in the case of homogeneous materials. It has been shown that the introduction of asymmetric conditions into the rolling process results in greater grain refinement in the so-called hard layer. There was no negative effect on the structural changes in the soft layer observed.

The purpose of the article is to assess the extent to which it has been possible to overcome the crisis situation in the economic and political/systemic dimension in Europe. The events of the crisis in the Eurozone mobilised the national and European elites to respond above all with respect to the economic situation. But in part, the changes concerned also the political dimension or precipitated consequences of a systemic character (related to the mechanisms of European integration). Some ideas were only discussed and did not gain practical implementation due to differing opinions and interests among the leading political actors, above all the EU member states. As a result, the crisis was overcome to a partial or incomplete extent both in the economic and political respect.

This paper on financial regulation addresses the extent to which rules on liability for information should be standardized across the EU/EEA region. The method applied is an analysis of legal documents. My finding is that further harmonization may lead to difficulties concerning procedural rules. Some authors suggest harmonizing the civil procedure for prospectus liability cases. This could reduce asymmetric information and thus contribute to efficient markets. However, mandatory disclosure comes with costs. These may increase if standards inconsistent with domestic procedures are imposed. The topic may be of interest for regulating other aspects of life, such as environmental information disclosure.

Opis:
The well-known problem of price-based coordinability is studied for the case of a multi-agent system in which information regarding the goals of the interacting subsystems is asymmetric. The paper illustrates how the uniform-price-based coordination rulet may create incentives to anticipate the values of coordination signals and, thus, why the coordinability condition cannot be satisfied under asymmetric information. For this purpose a comparison is given of Nash equilibrium outcomes that are reachable individually by priceanticipating agents in two noncooperative games. These games are induced by the uniform-price-based coordination mechanism and are referred to as payment-bidding auction and demand-bidding auction. The analysis presented shows that in the games considered some of the agents may improve payoffs and allocations by applying the price-anticipating bidding strategies. However, the payment-bidding auction cannot be strictly dominated by the demand-bidding action with respect to the resource allocation levels individually received by each agent. The derived results of theoretic considerations are illustrated by numerical examples.

The article refers to selected aspects of knowledge about terrorism and its typology. The introduction explains the etymology of this concept and highlights the problem of diversity in the definition of terrorism. The next part cites several definitions of terrorism, which, in the author’s opinion, reflect the essence of this phenomenon. The difference between terrorism and terror, which are two terms that should not be used interchangeably, is also explained. The next part of the article illustrates the source of the problem which makes it impossible to agree on a commonly accepted definition of terrorism by giving an example of the wording of the Arab Convention for the Suppression of Terrorism. Then, the inherent feature of terrorism is explained, which is its asymmetry. The last part of the article concerns a typology of terrorism. It presents in a synthetic way various categories of terrorism, distinguished according to such criteria as: actors, motives, strategic (final) goals, close (closer) goals, type of actions, nature of the object of attacks, international implications, and means and methods used by terrorists. The article ends with a concise summary of the considerations on the theoretical aspects of terrorism undertaken in it.

The aim of this paper is to analyse the welfare consequences of the processes of liberalisation of trade between asymmetric states in terms of the various sizes and effectiveness of their economies and the type of international exchange. These characteristics ultimately define the distribution of benefits from the liberalisation of international trade. When it is inter-industry or vertical intra-industry and barriers in trade are smaller than the difference in the effectiveness of the economies, the trade liberalisation undoubtedly contributes to improved social welfare, regardless of the level of effectiveness and the size of the economy. In the situation, however, of horizontal intra-industry trade, changes in the welfares of asymmetric countries, caused by their progressing trade liberalisation, depend on the sizes and effectiveness of their economies. The welfare of society in either a very big and ineffective or in a small and very ineffective country could even decrease in such a situation. This is the case when the increase in consumers’ surplus is not sufficient to compensate for the decreasing profits of firms.

Over the last 20 years asymmetric aminocatalysis has emerged as highly useful and reliable method of asymmetric synthesis. It involves the use of primary or secondary amines as catalysts of various stereoselective transformations of carbonyl substrates. Owing to the diverse activation strategies available in asymmetric aminocatalysis, it became a method of choice when the functionalization of prochiral aldehydes and ketones is considered. As a consequence, a direct and straightforward access to various chiral building blocks is possible that is of relevance to modern stereocontrolled organic synthesis. In the manuscript, the development of various aminocatalytic activation concepts is described and recent, selected contributions to this field of chemistry discussed. Main advantages of these strategies are highlighted providing an overview of this fascinating area of research.

Opis:
One of the fundamental research goals in modern chemistry is the development of efficient and selective procedures to access organic compounds. Among all of the methodologies developed so far, catalysis offers an efficient and economical approach to enantiomericaly pure substances. In particular, transition metal catalysts modified by ligands, usually phosphines, are one of most successful examples of practical catalysis. Unfortunately, most of the applied metals (e.g., Pd, Rh, Ru, Ir) are low abundant, toxic and expensive. For this reason, recent research is focusing on their replacement by cheaper and low toxic metals. For example, the use of zinc can be of great interest, due to its abundance (0.0076% in the earth crust), biological relevance and distinct abilities. In the last two decades many scientific group have been working on finding new, high efficient and inexpensive catalytic system based on zinc for enantioselective transformations. It has been found that many of important organic reactions (for example aldol, Diels-Alder, Friedel-Crafts, Henry reactions) in their asymmetric version can be catalyzed by zinc complexes. One of them is also asymmetric reduction of double carbon-heteroatom bonds through addition of hydride (from silane). Hydrosilylation reduction is a promising alternative for the catalytic transformation of organic molecules to other reduction methods such as: hydrogenation and transfer hydrogenation owing to its operational simplicity and mild conditions. This review will give a general overview of the possible applications of zinc-catalyzed hydrosilylation of carbonyl compounds and imines. Since the understanding of mechanism of reaction is crucial for rational planning of new and more efficient ligands, some part of this article was devoted for mechanical considerations.
