Opis:
The telecommunications industry in last decade went through the dramatic changes motivated by mobility, wireless technologies and miniaturization. The continuous increase in the complexity and the heterogeneity of healthcare telecommunications infrastructures requires reliable methodology to assess the quality of service provision. This article presents a cost effective methodology to assess the user's perception of quality of service provision utilizing the existing Staffordshire University network by adding a component of measurement to the existing model presented by Walker. This paper offers a cost effective approach to assess the QoS provision within the University campus network, which could be easily adapted to any campus network or healthcare organization in the world.

Opis:
After long history of mining of Zn-Pb ore deposits their resources are considerably exhausted. The 'Olkusz-Pomorzany' is the only active mine. Further mining is possible of undeveloped deposits in Olkusz and Zawiercie areas. They were explored since 1970-1990 with the use of vertical boreholes. The borehole density was the basic criteria for estimation of resources assessment accuracy. Resources were calculated with the use of polygonal (Boldyriew) method. The deposit parameters defined in particular boreholes were assigned individually to the whole surrounding polygons. This method was undisputable in the case of most rich startoidal ore bodies (ore zones). Undeveloped deposits are composed of several local, net like ore bodies horizontally and vertically dispersed. For assessment of their resources a new approach was proposed based on limited extrapolation of borehole data up to the distance corresponding to the autocorrelation radii of zinc content. It was evaluated by geostatistical study of zinc content variation (zinc content variograms). Within the circle with 37.5 m radii, surrounding each borehole, resources were evaluated in C1 (indicated) category and up to 75 m in C2 (inferred) category. The boundary of deposit defines the limit of the area on which indirect phenomena of mineralization processes were registered (Zn, Pb below cut off limit, marcasite, calcite, barite).
Po wielu wiekach intensywnej eksploatacji górnośląskich złóż rud cynku i ołowiu nastąpiło znaczne wyczerpanie ich zasobów. Wydobycie rud Zn-Pb prowadzi obecnie tylko kopalnia 'Olkusz-Pomorzany'. Nadzieje na przedłużenie funkcjonowania krajowego górnictwa rud Zn-Pb wiąże się z niezagospodarowanymi złożami rejonu olkuskiego i zawierciańskiego. Udokumentowano je w latach 1970-1990 ubiegłego wieku. Złoża badano pionowymi otworami z powierzchni, ustalając kategorię rozpoznania w zależności od gęstości sieci wierceń. Zasoby złóż liczono metodą wieloboków Bołdyriewa. Zakłada ona, że wartości parametrów interwałów rudnych określone w otworze centralnym dotyczą także całego wieloboku. Przyjęty schemat nie budził zastrzeżeń w trakcie eksploatacji bogatych, ciągłych na znacznej przestrzeni ciał rudnych występujących w centralnych rejonach górnośląskiego zagłębia kruszcowego. Niezagospodarowane złoża rejonu olkuskiego i zawierciańskiego usytuowane są w peryferyjnych częściach regionu. Z rozpoznania wiertniczego wynika, że mineralizacja Zn-Pb występuje w nich przede wszystkim w formie rozproszonych w planie i w pionie skupień gniazdowych. Przy założeniu gniazdowego modelu złóż koniecznym stało się odejście od tradycyjnych metod ich dokumentowania. Zaproponowano procedurę szacowania zasobów takich złóż, polegającą na ekstrapolacji informacji z otworów pozytywnych do odległości wynikającej z promienia autokorelacji (zasięgu wpływu informacji). Wyznaczono go na podstawie wyników badań geostatystycznych modeli zmienności zawartości cynku w złożach eksploatowanych. Przyjęto, że zasoby szacowane są w otoczeniu otworów rozpoznawczych w obrębie okręgów o promieniu 37,5m w kategorii C1 i w odległości do 75 m w kategorii C2. Granice obszaru złożowego wyznacza kontur obszaru, w którym stwierdzono pośrednie oznaki mineralizacji.

Obecnie tematyka pomiaru społecznej wartości dodanej to jedno z kluczowych zagadnień wpisujących się w nurt ekonomii społecznej. Dynamiczny rozwój tego sektora w Polsce w ostatnich latach nie idzie w parze z rozwojem metod służących ocenie podmiotów działających w obszarze ekonomii społecznej. Wyzwanie, jakim jest przygotowanie narzędzia, które pełniłoby taką rolę podjął zespół krakowskich naukowców i praktyków, społeczników, socjologów, ekonomistów i finansistów. Niniejszy artykuł przedstawia genezę, podejście, jakie zostało przyjęte w procesie jego opracowywania oraz dylematy, przed jakimi stanęli autorzy stworzonego narzędzia SWD. W tekście zaprezentowano m.in. (1) wybrane metody oceny społecznej wartości dodanej stosowane na świecie, z uwzględnieniem ich słabych oraz mocnych stron, (2) autorską koncepcję metody oceny społecznej wartości dodanej, a także (3) narzędzie badawcze (kwestionariusz ankiety) i aplikację internetową. W ostatniej części artykułu przedstawiono sposób wyznaczania społecznej wartości dodanej, przyjęte założenia, jak również etapy oceny i interpretacji wyników. (abstrakt oryginalny)
Nowadays measuring of social added value is one of the key issues concerning social economy. The dynamic development of this sector in Poland in recent years does not correlate with the development of methods for the assessment of entities operating in the social economy. A team of scientists and practitioners, social activists, sociologists, economists and financiers from Krakow took up the challenge of preparing such a tool. This paper presents the origins, an approach that has been adopted in the process of its development and dilemmas faced the authors during preparation a 'tool SWD'. The text present (1) selection of methods for assessing the social added value used in the world, including their strengths and weaknesses, (2) an original concept of the method of measuring social added value, and (3) research tool (questionnaire) and the web application. In the last part of the article describes how to calculate the social added value, the assumptions made, as well as the stages of assessment and interpretation of results. (original abstract)

Opis:
“One planet, one main goal: good life for all”: it could be a motto of sustainable world. Sustainability is global mega trend in all fields of life to promote prosperity protecting our planet. Sustainable development is a requirement and a priority for all people all over the world. It is defined as development of the current world with a view to the future generations. In 2015, the UN Member States established Agenda 2030, including seventeen “Sustainable Development Goals”, SDG, which should be realized by 2030. Objectives scope all areas of life, namely quality of human life, ecosystem, world peace or partnerships. Each goal has an environmental context. According to the “United Nations Environment Program” (UNEP), Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is a perfect method in the context of the environmental dimensions of the SDGs. The concept not only concerns the effects of the process/production system or the product/service but also all stages of its life (from cradle to grave), considering the carbon, environmental, consumer or biodiversity footprints. LCA is the only comprehensive eco-innovation indicator and policy implementation technique of sustainable development in companies in terms of eco-efficiency and eco-products. This mini review provides a survey of the current state of knowledge on sustainability and sustainable development as well as the relevance of new holistic methodology bridging SDGs with LCA, on the base of the newest scientific worldwide literature.

Risk of an accident is an ever-present component in the maritime transportation process, especially in congested waters such as port areas. Since safety is of crucial importance in the maritime industry, different models of risk assessments were developed to ensure minimal navigational danger. The aim of this paper is the development of modular, dynamic sets of parameters, applicable for future risk assessment models on port approaches by introducing top-down expert appraisal structure methodology organised in three steps. Firstly, approaches and criteria from relevant international recommendations and scientific studies on maritime risk assessment models were analysed and compared, in order to obtain general categories of navigational safety parameters. Secondly, existing risk assessment parameters were structured and combined into new dynamic sets. In the third step, these dynamic sets of parameters were selected, and numerical values were assigned to them according to the specific context of the port. Finally, this top-down methodology aims to provide relevant dynamic sets of criteria for navigational safety risk assessment development that are flexible and widely applicable for the needs and characteristics of different ports.

Opis:
Development and implementation of contactless methods for determining the stress-strain state of pipelines in the process of transportation of energy hydrocarbons is important for ensuring its safe operation. The authors developed a method for determining the change in the stress-strain state of the underground part of the main oil and gas pipelines according to the data about the displacement of a certain set of points of the axis of the pipeline. This study was conducted on a linear section of the main gas pipeline, where a landslide in 2010 created a force pressure on the pipeline, resulting in a pipeline rupture.

Knowledge is an essential source of technological, economic and social progress. In innovation processes, knowledge is treated as a basic input used to create innovation and also as an output of these processes. Then knowledge, understood as skills and competence in the innovation process, leads to the creation of innovation. It seems obvious that the notion of a “knowledge-based economy” popular in recent years can be identified with the term “innovative economy,” so an assessment of the development of a knowledge-based economy corresponds with an analysis of the innovativeness of an economy. The measurement of knowledge-based economies and an analysis of the innovativeness of individual economies pose a challenge for economists. In most measurement methods used in the case of such economies, a summary index built on the basis of many variables, is used. The aim of the article is to assess the advancement of knowledge-based economies in European Union countries from 2000 to 2007. To estimate the development of knowledge-based economies, a summary knowledge-based economy index was built on the basis of factor analysis. An extensive range of data from the EU statistics office, the Eurostat, was used to build the index. In the research, special attention was paid to Poland’s place on the ranking list. Cyprus, Malta and Luxembourg were excluded from the analysis for lack of complete data.

Filozofia nauki i filozofia nauk społecznych odegrały i odgrywają nadal znaczącą rolę w formowaniu i rozwoju nauki o stosunkach międzynarodowych. Wpłynęły one na sposoby teoretyzowania przez dyscyplinę jej przedmiotu i rozumienia prawomocności wytwarzanej wiedzy, a także wybory metodologiczne. Często problemy podnoszone przez filozofię nauki są określane jako metateoretyczne. Metateoria bada podstawowe założenia teorii oraz ich wpływ na sposoby teoretyzowania i praktyki badawcze. W NSM zainteresowanie metateorią nabierało szczególnego znaczenia w okresach tak zwanych "wielkich debat" lub "debat paradygmatycznych" toczonych w dyscyplinie. Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie roli, jaką metateoria pełniła i pełni w NSM. Kluczowe pytanie dotyczy przyczyn szczególnego zainteresowania metateorią przez badaczy stosunków międzynarodowych. W artykule omawiam także rozumienie teorii i historię metateorii w NSM oraz przedstawiam stanowiska zajmowane w sporze o rolę metateorii w dyscyplinie. (abstrakt oryginalny)
The philosophy of science and social science has played and continues to play an important role in shaping and informing the development of international relations as a field of study. It has impacted the way in which IR theorises its subject matter, legitimises knowledge and makes methodological choices. Problems raised in the philosophy of science are often described as metatheoretical. Metatheory examines the basic assumptions of theory and the way these influence different theorisations and research practices. Interest in IR metatheory becomes particularly pronounced during periods of 'great debates' or 'paradigmatic debates' within this field of academia. The aim of the article is to explore the role of metatheory in the study of international relations. The key question concerns the reasons why IR scholars are particularly interested in metatheory. I also discuss the IR understanding of theory and the history of IR metatheory, including by presenting different positions within the debate on the role of metatheory in the study of IR. Niniejsza praca opisuje ocenę wpływu wibracji komunikacyjnych na budynki historyczne i ludzi znajdujących się w ich wnętrzach. The present paper describes the criteria used to evaluate the effect that road traffic-induced vibration has on historical buildings and on the people inside these structures. The article additionally describes the methodology for measurement and interpretation of the results, adopted throughout the diagnostic procedures. The paper additionally focuses on the issues, resulting from the lack of proper simulation analyses regarding the vibration dampening and isolation methods, when it comes to road design. The author additionally creates amendment proposals, for the standards in force.

Opis:
Promieniowanie słoneczne jest głównym czynnikiem wpływającym na przebieg procesów fizycznych i biologicznych na Ziemi. Ważne jest bezpośrednie oddziaływanie promieni słonecznych, a tym samym czynniki ograniczające to oddziaływanie. Jednym z nich jest zacienienie ścian budynków. W artykule przeprowadzono analizę zacienienia ściany budynku od sąsiadującej zabudowy oraz okapu. Podano własne wzory końcowe na obliczanie wysokości zacienienia ściany. Wykazano istotny wpływ wysokości budynku zacieniającego i jego odległość od budynku zacienianego, a także wysięgu okapu. Uwzględniono zmianę wysokości kątowej Słońca w ciągu roku i doby, a także szerokość geograficzną usytuowania budynku.
Solar radiation is the main factor influencing the physical and biological processes on Earth. The direct impact of the sunlight is significant, thus the factors limiting that impact are also very important. One of them includes the shading of the walls. This article provides the analysis of the shading of the wall separating from the adjacent building and the hood. The paper also presents own, final calculations for the height of the wall shading, its significant effect, the importance of the distance from the overshadowed object, and the outreach of the hood. The angular changes of the height of the sun taking place during the year and the day were also taken into the consideration, as well as the latitude of the building location.

Artykuł przedstawia metodologię projektowania systemu zamówień publicznych na roboty budowlane. Przywołano analizę patologii podczas zlecania robót, pokazano nowe podejście w celu wykorzystania systemu zarządzania jakością oraz zastosowanie systemu prekwalifikacji przy ocenie wykonawców zamówień. Zostały zidentyfikowane zagrożenia i ryzyka w procesie inwestycyjno-budowlanym, podzielono je na grupy oraz określono ich stopień wpływu na różnych etapach inwestycji.
This article presents a methodology for designing a system for public contracts. An analysis of the pathology at the time of outsourcing was quoted, showing a new approach to using the quality management system, and the application of a pre-qualification system for assessing contractors. Hazards and risks were identified in the investment and construction process, they were divided into groups and their impact on different stages of investment was identified.
