Opis:
Bright colours and lights in big cities have always been fascinating architects. Today, modern technologies opens up new perspectives in facade colour design through light and media. The synergy between architecture and electronic media results in the new design discipline called by ag4 company "mediatecture". LED videoscreens can completely cover building facades and present colourful kaleidoscopic images that dance across the building. This technology enables the colour, light and media design of the large facade surfaces through a wide spectrum of elements: illumination, text and graphic animations in various resolutions, as well as videos. Media facades give new possibilities for the building users' companies, advertisement, for the value enhancement of the architecture and urban environment and for the integration of media, art and architecture. The medialization of a facade construction offers potential for the development of an emotional connection between the observer and the architecture. Therefore, colour become something more than just element for facade finishing - media facade colours function as extensions of architecture rather than something that merely covers the building and become new and powerful architectural design tool.

Nowy dworzec został zlokalizowany w bezpośrednim sąsiedztwie pętli tramwajowej, co pozwoliło na zintegrowanie funkcji dworca autobusowego z istniejącymi liniami tramwajowymi, a także z autobusową komunikacja podmiejską. W ten sposób, oddany 9 listopada 2007 r., dworzec autobusowy MPK stał się dogodnym punktem przesiadkowym. Inwestycja warta 15,5 mln zł została sfinansowana w 50% z funduszy strukturalnych Unii Europejskiej w ramach programu 1.6.

Opis:
A variety of travertines can be found in the architecture of Kraków. The Polish travertines (Holocene) are quarried in the Silesian-Cracow Monocline, and have found their applications in sepulchral-sacral architecture. Their equivalents brought from outside Poland are used as polished decorative stones. The most popular are: the Italian Daino Reale (Neogene) and the Classico Romano (Holocene) and the Iranian Azarshar Red (Pleistocene). All of them display stromatolite structures and oncoides.

Ewolucja budowy willi sięga czasów starożytnych i trwa do dziś, jednak jej przestrzenny i artystyczny kształt ewoluował na przestrzeni wieków, wraz ze zmianami kulturowymi, ekonomicznymi i filozoficznymi. Koncepcja willi miejskiej integralnie odzwierciedla tradycje innych obiektów tego typu, takich jak wille podmiejskie i wiejskie. Jak sama nazwa wskazuje, charakter tego budynku mieszkalnego, o którym mowa nawiązuje do jego położenia i jest zazwyczaj wynikiem uwarunkowań funkcjonalnych. Jednak koncepcja willi, odpowiadającej symbolicznym, filozoficznym lub naturalistycznym planom, wskazuje, że tego rodzaju architektura była silnie związana z głębszymi znaczeniami. Aktualne badania w tej dziedzinie koncentrują się raczej na podmiejskich typach willi. Jednak rozważania nad komunalną formą tego rodzaju budynku nie są możliwe bez ciągłego odniesienia do willi podmiejskich oraz zależności między nimi. Głównym założeniem niniejszego artykułu jest określenie formy zmiany willi miejskiej, pod wpływem pojęć i relacji do innych typów budowy willi, od starożytności do genezy willi miejskiej w epoce przemysłowej.
The evolution of villa construction dates back to ancient times and continues until today, however its spatial and artistic shape has evolved over the centuries, together with cultural, economic and philosophical changes. The concept of the urban villa integrally reflects the traditions of other buildings of this type such as suburban and country villas. As the name shows, the character of this residential house referred to its location and was usually a result of functional conditions. However, the concept of a villa, corresponding with symbolic, philosophical or naturalistic plots, indicates that this kind of architecture was strongly connected with deeper meanings. Current studies on this subject focused rather on the suburban type of villas. However considerations over the municipal form of this kind of building are not possible without continuous references to villa suburbana as well as dependencies between them. The main foundation of the present article is the specification of the changing forms of the urban villa, influenced by concepts and relations to other types of villa construction, from antiquity to the genesis of the urban villa in the industrial époque.

This paper presents the use of greenery in urban conditions. It describes its purpose, function and selection of appropriate plant species to grow in urban conditions. An example of elaboration of public green space development project is shown.

Opis:
Social influence, a phenomenon studied by social psychology, contains a spatial aspect that exerts an important influence on both architecture and urban space. This article presents some of the areas and methods of social influence, as well as the associated features of human psychology and social phenomena, with some final remarks concerning manipulation and propaganda. This article include the presentation of methods that architecture and urban planning employ to influence people (both individuals and groups), such as the communication function of built structures, the identity and symbolism of space, and the phenomenon of unification. The research undertakes the problem of a large emotional potential of memorial and symbolic spaces, as well as the hierarchy of spaces and their atmosphere. Using the methods of identifying areas of influence described by social psychology, elements in architecture and urban planning susceptible to social influence have been noted.
Wpływ społeczny, będący fenomenem badanym przez psychologię społeczną, posiada swój aspekt przestrzenny, a zarazem w istotny sposób oddziałuje na kształt architektury i przestrzeni urbanistycznej. W pracy przedstawiono obszary i metody wywierania wpływu społecznego oraz związane z nimi cechy psychologii ludzkiej i społecznej, jak również fenomeny manipulacji i propagandy. Przedstawiono elementy architektury i urbanistyki mogące posłużyć do zmiany postaw jej użytkowników (zarówno jednostek, jak i grup społecznych), jak komunikacyjna funkcja struktur zbudowanych, tożsamość i symbolika przestrzeni czy fenomen unifikacji. W pracy poruszony został problem przestrzeni o znacznym ładunku symbolicznym i emocjonalnym, przestrzeni pamięci, jak również hierarchiczności przestrzeni, jej nastroju. Posługując się metodami identyfikacji obszarów wpływu, opisanymi przez psychologię społeczną, wskazano na zjawiska w architekturze i urbanistyce podatne na wywieranie wpływu społecznego.

Po epoce wielkich katedr dopiero epoka baroku dała życie świątyniom wzbudzającym w widzu wielkie emocje i zachwyt, wprowadzając go w stan wzruszenia estetycznego. Później już chyba żadna epoka nie wydała na świat dzieł tak zachwycających – dzieł, których walory wizualne i wartość krajobrazowa zasadzały się na perfekcyjnym usytuowaniu przestrzennym. Barokowa przestrzeń miejska wyznaczona została zarówno przez centrum-środek, jak i zastosowanie formy otwartej, wciągającej krajobraz naturalny w całość kompozycji w sposób do tej pory niespotykany.
After an era of great cathedrals, only Baroque gave birth to the temples that arouse great excitement and delight. Later, probably no era produced works whose great qualities of the visual and landscape value were based on the spatial location with such perfection. Baroque urban space has been determined by both: the center-to-center and the use of open form, addictive natural landscape in the whole composition in a so far unprecedented.

In many sacral and lay buildings of Cracow can be found animalistic stony sculptures of the apotropaical character. They are located mainly within outer parts of a building: in portals, tympanums, doorheads, capitals, keystones, etc. In the intention of builders, they were caretakers of the building by averting disasters and protecting dwellers or users from evil. Part of these sculptures has been intentionally hidden among other architectonic details, while others, present high in recesses of the faęade, are hardly visible and do not attract our attention. The custom of placing apotropaical figures was common in the Polish architecture mainly in the Gothic and Renaissance periods, and then it rejuvenated in Cracow at the end of the 19th century and at the beginning of the 20th century. The apotropaical sculptures in the Cracow architecture represent most often dragon-like beings, chimeras, or other figures belonging the group of the so-called mixed creatures. The stone materials used in apotropaical masonry include mainly the Neogen Pińczów limestone, sometimes the Triassic Diplopora dolostone and the Upper Jurassic limestone from the Silesian-Cracow monocline, i.e., the stones belonging to the oldest and mostfre- quently used materials in the Cracow architecture. Most of these sculptures do not bear marks of masons - their able creators. Looking up for both these hidden and these only apparently be in sight apotropaical mixed creatures is an exciting adventure trip that crosses the borders of the urban geology, history of art and architecture. The author is convinced that there are much more apotropaical sculptures within the city of Cracow, thus his search is still in progress. In this paper he has also omitted a rich assemblage of the stony creatures from the Wawel hill, which have already been dealt with in details (Firlet 1996).

Today it is hard to imagine a large modern city without a shopping mall. Actually mall emerged as a kind of city center for periphery residents. However, in today’s fast paced life the concept of “everything under one roof” has become an integral part of the urban structure. Mall makes it possible to meet not one but a number of needs at once. The fact that mall is analogous to city centre is confirmed not only by their functional content similarity, but also by structure. Like urban web is anchored at nodes of human activity, “shopping mall web” is anchored on nodes of retail and entertainment spaces. Like urban structures have a hierarchy of connections (from footpaths to roads), shopping mall structure has a hierarchy of social spaces (from side malls to the centre court). Despite this similarity, the socialization and communication problems in shopping malls remain unsolved. In this study the comparative analysis of urban and shopping mall structures was performed. We defined the key urban structure principles suitable for effective formation of social and public spaces of malls.

History of the use of natural stones in Brisbane architecture (east coast Australia) begun in 1823 when first colonists came to Australia. The authors present main historical buildings of Brisbane and rocks that were used to construct them. The stone materials were taken from closer and further surroundings of Brisbane, they include: Moggill, Murphys Creek, Albion Heights, Breakfast Creek, Yangan, and Sydney sandstones, Oamaru limestones as well as Upper Triassic-Lower Jurassic sandstones of Goodna and Helidon, the Triassic versicoloured pyroclastic ryolitic the Brisbane tuff (consisting of tuffs and ignimbrites) exposed in Kangaroo Point by the Brisbane River. There is also possible to find granitoides from Albion Heights and Enoggera, quartz diorites from Karana (Mount Crosby) and the Samford biotitic grandiorites from Camp Mountain. Currently the Brisbane architecture is dominated by more attractive stone material imported from outside Australia.
