In history of philosophy the origin of the first plans of the perfect political system, called an ideal one, or – from the time Thomas More’s Utopia was published – a utopian one, is usually associated with Plato’s philosophy in which the model of the perfect state has its justification in a transcendent principle of reality: in The State – in the supersensible world of ideas; in Laws – in the world of the principles that are inaccessible to the sensual inspection, i.e. ἀρχαί. However, already Aristotle’s testimony points to the fact that the perfect state was written about long before the times of Plato. Studies of the Pythagorean philosophy that originated before Plato, allow the statement that its followers saw the imperfection of the political systems that they knew, and also they knew its causes, which they perceived in infringement by political structures of the principle of universal justice that is omnipresent in the universe. The first plans of the perfect system must have been originated already in the first, so-called old Pythagorean union; however, the state of the writings by the Pythagorean philosophers does not allow their detailed reconstruction. On the basis of fragments and the doxographic evidence that are preserved and recognized as authentic we can only infer that they thought that the state-polis as a microcosmos in its structure should imitate the structure of the universe – the model and pattern of perfection for all beings constituting the universe, which can be reduced first of all to the conviction that in all the aspects of its functioning it should be subjected to the measure, harmony and proportions determined by universal justice. We find a confirmation of such a conception of the perfect system in the collection of the so-called Pythagorean apocryphal works preserved to our times – works that were written towards the end of the 4th or at the beginning of the 3rd century B.C., and popularized under the names of “old” Pythagoreans (like Charondas, Zaleukos, Archytas of Tarentum, Ocellus, Hippodamus of Miletus, Aresas, Diotogenes, Sthenidas, Ecphantus, Euryphamus of Metapontum), transmitted by late philosophers and compilers, like Porphyrius, Iamblichus or Stobaeus. Since the standpoints of various researchers as to the dating and origin of those writings differ from one another, it should be accepted that they were written either as imitations of the old-Pythagorean writings that have not been preserved, or they developed, according to Pythagorean teaching on the principles and the universe, findings included in the so-called Πυϑαγορικὰ ὑπομνήματα. Among those apocryphal works we find a lot of writings explicitly or implicitly devoted to the question of the perfect political system: the very form of politeia, the authority, status and obligations of the ruler, laws and their sources, the status and obligations of citizens, education, ethical and moral norms. All these writings share acceptance of a definite model for the perfect system: it is the universe and its structure. According to the old-Pythagorean teaching about two principles-ἀρχαί, the universe consists of the rational principle containing proportion and measure (πέρας), and the principle devoid of this measure and proportion (ἄπειρον). In the structure of the universe the rational principle puts its measure and proportion on the irrational principle – which is manifested in the proper numerical relations, in the harmony of oppositions, in the equilibrium of coming into existence and disappearance of all the beings the universe consists of, as well as in the eternal existence and invariability of the very universe. Disturbance of the proper proportions of the structure causes its disintegration. The authors of the pseudo-Pythagorean writings perceive the causes of political upheavals and falls of states in such disturbances of the proper proportions and relations in the field of polis. Hence the perfect political system is one that in the micro scale imitates the correctness of the structure of the universe, which should be manifested in proper relations between the ruler or the authority and the citizens, and in passing proper laws that should be a “translation” of the law of universal justice into the language of human decisions in citizens’ ethical and moral actions. Hence Pythagorean apocryphal works are a proof that long before Plato philosophers wrote about the perfect political system.

Ostracods from the Arche quarry at Frasnes are analysed. Twenty−seven species are recognised in the Chalon Member and in the very base of the Arche Member of the Moulin Liénaux Formation. Three new species: Scrobicula gracilis, Microcheilinella archensis, and Bairdia (Rectobairdia) chalonensis, and one subspecies Plagionephrodes laqueus praelaqueus, are proposed. The fauna is in the Favulella lecomptei Zone based on metacopid ostracods and belongs to the Eifelian Mega−Assemblage. Ostracods are indicative of a regressive trend from a moderately deep poorly oxygenated marine environment below fair weather wave base to very shallow well oxygenated and agitated environments. Comparison of the ostracod fauna present in the Arche quarry with faunas described from the Frasnes railway section and from the Lion quarry shows that ostracods did not suffer a crisis during the Palmatolepis punctata Conodont Zone and close to the Early–Middle Frasnian boundary.

The One is the identity of Transcendens-Immanens. Far (external) as Transcendens, It becomes close (internal) as Immanens. This closeness entitles us to try to express the One. Reason, will and - involving both, in sacrum area - faith can testify of the One. It is previous to every philosophical discourse, which is asking about the principle of universe (arche). The One is previously given and - at least implicite - present in discourse. It is also, exactly as arche, the completion of this discourse. In the philosophy, which starts from and completes on the One, we can see the structural conflict between dualistic form of principium rationis and the trend to unity. However, this conflict seems to be the strength of the philosophy, when it assumes the positive shape of balance between rationality and extrarationality (existence). The One cannot be comprehended in rational way, because principium rationis invariably imposes to consider the One in contrast to multiplicity. „The One” in such understanding is not Transcendens (-Immanens), while entangled in dualism. Only in the symbiosis of rational and existential orders (thanks to mentioned balance) the One can overcome the rational determinateness. Then It reveals itself in eschatological dimension as Deity; the philosophical space becomes the religious space. Mystical experience takes place of meditation, becoming a kernel of faith - ultimate care. The commonness of ultimate care experience, which is known by every man, tends to stand for mystical egalitarianism, which means recognition of mystical state as the experience inherent connected with the human fate. As an expression of Transcendens-Immanens, the One calms. The One is a password (word of passing) ciphering arche of philosophy and Deity of religion. Reading of this cipher requires the cooperation of reason and existence - thinking and participation.

Opis:
The text is in its character a statement by a “witness to an era”. It is an attempt at describing Lutoslawski’s artistic path and his culture-forming activity from the perspective of an evolution within a concrete historical and political situation. This aesthetic evolution is evidenced in the composer’s utterances: significant interviews and private, confessional notes. They outline his creative path from the impact of Chopin as the emotional arche, through subsequent phases and breakthroughs: from academic aesthetics based on the Hanslick paradigm, through socialist-realist indoctrination and uncritical fascination with the avant-garde, to a gradual crystallisation of his own idiom. Eventually, this entirely own idiom, marked with a lyrical opening, consists in a return to everlasting values, expressly defined by the composer: the truth and the beauty of a work of art.

The author sketches the most important aspects of Heraclitean theory of fire as the ‘principle’, ‘beginning’ or ‘origin’ (arché) of existing things. The presentation puts his concept of arché in the background of Heraclitean famous aphoristic dicta (‘everything flows’ – panta rhei, among others) and his theory of universal logos. Although the philosophy of Heraclitus is not very distinct from other theories by archaic philosophers of nature (Anaximander, Anaximenes, Thales, Parmenides, Empedocles), its specificity makes Heraclitus one of the most influential and inspiring figures of Ancient world.

The article analyses the nature of ancient philosophy. What was it? Was it a search for the truth of the nature? Or was it more a lifestyle, consciously chosen and developed? Th e above interpretations are considered as contradictory. However, in my opinion, in Greek philosophy world and man were not distinct from each other. Th e Greeks saw universe as a unity encompassing everything that exists, including human beings and even gods. Greek philosophers were interested not only in physical world; they focused also on a question how a man should live. With time, this question became the most important: philosophy became a way of intellectual and spiritual exercise, leading to a good life and finally to happiness. I stress this ‘exercising’ dimension as inseparable from all philosophical inquiry in antiquity.

The primary ideal of philosophical investigations was focused on seeking for causes which existed in the world of nature. First attempts were concentrated on discovering a basic constructive element (proto-element), which also was to be the primitive principle (ajrchv) of life and transformations in the world. That current was represented by such philosophers as Heraclitus, Empedocles, Anaxagoras or Diogenes of Apollonia, who endeavored to describe the reality and its intrinsic processes in a broader causal context. They emphasized mate-rial and dynamic causes for originating things and keeping them in existence – causes which transcended a homogeneous principle. The variety of phenomena in the world demanded to seek for causes of different kinds, and became a sig-nificant step for understanding the reality in a strictly philosophical way. With having distinguished functions of causes, mentioned thinkers gave a solid foun-dation for understanding cause as aijtiva in later philosophy (of Plato and Aris-totle). According to first philosophers, however, the existence and function of causes remained completely dependent on the material component of the reality, which proved that pre-Socratic philosophy was entirely dominated by the physi-cal view of the world.

Sayings Thales preserved in the writings of Aristotle, who relies on the tradition. Noteworthy is the fact that Aristotle did not mention any work of Thales, and when he examines his views, based as he says on the tradition. Kirk and Raven extensively analyzing the writings of Thales did not come to no decision, saying that existed in the ancient belief that all of the seven sages laid the rather maxims, which makes it very difficult test. It's likely that there were some advice Thales for sailors in written form, but it is unclear whether he wrote them himself or someone else. It is also difficult to decide what meaning would the existence of a guide for sailors by the Thales for its cosmological views, it is difficult to suppose that someone taught his metaphysical views in a work of this kind. Seneca, Plutarch, Diogenes, Cicero essentially repeated the words of Aristotle does not provide anything new.

The paper attempts to reconstruct Thales’ argument about water, which is rightly considered to be the core of his philosophy of nature. It consists of two separate arguments – one biological and the other physical – which ascribe to water two different functions: in the first case, it is a source of life on the earth or, in another version, a source of life of the earth in its entirety; in the second case, it is something that supports the earth in its stationary position in the cosmos. These two arguments indicate that Thales’ notion of water was meant to answer more than just one question about nature. This, in turn, might justify the use of the concept of arche, which Aristotle attributed to the Ionian philosophers, even though Thales had obviously never used the term. The concept may somehow accurately render Thales’ more general view of water. It should be noted, however, that if the term arche can be applied to Thales’ views, then it is only in the sense related to the “coming-to-be”. Thales’ arguments did not apply – contrary to what some doxographers said and what certain scholars still maintain – to the question of the end, or perishing of physical things, the problem taken up only by later Ionians. To put it differently, Thales never claimed that the physical things which die or undergo destruction change into water.

Działania te przyjmują różne formy: od biblioterapii wychowawczej, przez biblioterapię tekstami religijnymi po ekspresyjną autobiblioterapię mieszkańców wspólnot z niepełnosprawnością intelektualną. Elementy terapii czytelniczej dzieją się w L’Arche naturalnie i można uznać je za wpisane w działalność terapeutyczną i wsparcie zapewniane przez opisywaną wspólnotę.
Authors are giving a description and analysis of the activities considered as bibliotherapeutic that occur in the Community of L’Arche. These activities take different forms: from educational bibliotherapy through bibliotherapy of religious texts, to the expressive autobibliotherapy of community residents with intellectual disabilities. Elements of reading therapy are naturally present in L’Arche and can be considered as included in the therapeutic activities and support provided by the described community.

Parmenides in his revolt of the first philosophy discarded the principle - arche and introduced in its place being - to eon. The effectivess of this revoltion of thought rested upon - among others - revealing a permanent connection between logic and ontology which connection was most seen in ‘signs of truth’, i.e. features of being. Two of these features - ‘unborn’ and ‘indesrtructible’ - show in a sense entanglement in the context of time whose consideration requires the analysis of Parmenides’ poem and insight into historical-philosophical development of the notion of time from the perspective of its use by natural philosophers in defining the principle - arche.
Parmenides dokonując rewolty filozofii pierwszej odrzucił pojęcie zasady – arche, a na jej miejsce wprowadził byt – to eon. Skuteczność tej rewolucji myślowej oparta była miedzy innymi na ujawnieniu trwałego związku pomiędzy logiką i ontologią, który to związek realizował sie w najwyższym stopniu w „znakach prawdy”, czyli cechach bytu. Dwie z tych cech – ‘niezrodzony i niezniszczalny’ – w pewnym aspekcie ujawniają uwikłanie w konteks czasowości, którego rozpatrzenie wymaga analizy samego poematu Parmenidesa, jak i wglądu w historyczno-filozoficzny rozwój pojęcia czasu w perspektywie jego zastosowania przez filozofów przyrody w definiowaniu zasady – arche.

Argumentuję, że Arche jest nietrwała i płynna, lecz ukryta pod naszym codziennym doświadczeniem świata jako składającego się bytów o trwale ustalonych tożsamościach. Szkicuję także drogę prowadzącą od doświadczenia codziennego do doświadczenia ukrytej Arche.
In my paper I sketch a conception of metaphysical experience as the experience of Arche – a ground of being and existence. I argue that Arche is unstable and fluid, but hidden beneath our everyday, commonsense experiences of the world consisting of beings with firmly established identities. I also sketch the way leading from that everyday experience of the world towards the experience of the hidden Arche.
