    The article concerns the influence of the IT sector on the evolution of the Polish language. The author discusses changes in vocabulary: the introduction of new terms concerning computers (usually of English origin), into the Polish language and Polish dictionaries that have been published recently. He analyses the influence of virtual reality on communicative patterns of behaviour of contemporary Poles. He explains how the words that refer to computers and the Internet have become metaphors in contemporary Polish language and how they are being used in poetry.

    The aim of this paper is to investigate the problem of defining the term Anglicism in academic papers dealing with this problem. The focus is on different linguistic approaches to Anglicisms discussed from the sociolinguistic, diachronic and synchronic perspectives. The complexity of the subject together with the multiplicity of the presented approaches have consequences for teaching German as a FL. These problems are presented in the second part of the paper.

    This article examines if and how the recommendations of the spelling reform from 1990 are applied and used in practice. We have focused especially on the loanwords namely anglicisms in the Canadian French and their employment in the Canadian press in electronic format. For that purpose, we wanted to depict certain details of the spelling reform concerning words of foreign origin, and more precisely those which are borrowed from British and American English. We have also concentrated our attention on the difficulties of French grammatical system, comparing it with the Italian and Spanish grammatical systems in order to illustrate the level of complexity of the French language. To demonstrate and verify the usage of the rules recommended by the reform of French orthography, we have chosen several online versions of Canadian daily press.

    Opis:
    The influence of English on German has grown in the last decades and is likely to continue. The aim of this paper is to investigate the occurrence of Anglicisms in the travel magazine Lonely Planet Traveller Deutschland (October, 2014). The particular focus is on the parts of speech and word formation types they represent. First we make an attempt to define the terms loanword and Anglicism. In the second part we present and discuss the results of our corpus linguistic study. The findings of the study show the dominance of nouns in the analysed Anglicisms (especially hybrid nominal compounds). The research can be of significance for further studies on the language of tourism industry.

    The article presents the computer language of the Russian and Polisch EDV experts. The introductory part defines the computer language. The central question of the article is: How strongly do the Anglicisms influence the Russian and Polish computer language? The aim of the analysis is to compare Russian and Polish with computer language anglicisms.

    Although French is a Romance language descendant ffrom the Latin, there is of course some influence of other languages on it. English is perhaps the most important source of loan-words for the present French language. Our article is focused on new forms of written communication, mainly computer-mediated communication (CMC). The main aim of this article is to analyze the loan-words, especially the anglicisms that are used by chatters in various French chats. After examining the motivations of loan, the article studies the frequency of anglicisms in three chats and observes their grammatical adaptation in the context of CMC. A huge richness of anglicisms is illustrated by concrete examples taken from our corpus.

    The paper presents and examines -ing formations used in Polish. It also addresses the notion of productivity in morphology and discusses the growing productivity of the English derivational -ing suffix in contemporary Polish. To address the issue of productivity all -ing formations must be divided into foreign loans and derivatives that have been coined in Polish. One of the two forms of analysis of the research material used for the present study is based on the typology of contact-induced innovations; the other involves a synchronic morphological and semantic analysis of -ing formations coined in Polish. A thesis concerning the appearance of English -ing in Polish and its becoming an independent suffix and a productive word-formation rule is proposed.

    The present text focuses on English borrowings in the Russian language that are used to coin the names of Russian watches. The problem is scrutinized in the context of the Americanization of culture in post-Soviet Russia. It has been shown that the borrowings most frequently used by the Russian watchmakers are well-established in Russian as they have been functioning in the language at least since the first half of the 20th century. The analysis of nominations employing English borrowings indicates that tendencies in the naming practices in the Russian watchmaking industry seem to be substantially conservative.
    В статье рассматриваются английские заимствования, используемые в наименованиях часов русского производства в контексте американизации культуры в постсоветский период истории России. Показано, что если заимствования используются, то это заимствования, которые освоены в первой половине ХХ века. Анализ номинаций с использованием англицизмов говорит о значительной консервативности нейминга в российском часовом производстве.

    This article focuses on the important problem of codification of the most recent borrowings of British and American English origins in the contemporary Russian language. Standardization of loanwords is a current issue of vital importance, as it has a global reach, which means that it affects not only the Russian language but many other national languages that are under the influence of the English language – the contemporary lingua franca. The codification of the lexis of foreign origin is examined based on material obtained from contemporary lifestyle magazines published in Russian. This type of press disseminates borrowed neologisms particularly intensively and, at the same time, creates the language use of the given discourse. The excerpted vocabulary items have been confronted with the lexis of the most recent Russian spelling dictionaries. The deliberations contained in this paper show a fragment of linguistic reality changing under the influence of ubiquitous English language, where common usage competes with the linguistic norm. The article shows the difficulties caused by lexical transfer of loanwords faced by specialists in prescriptive linguistics (e.g. a common problem of orthographic variation).
    Niniejszy artykuł zwraca uwagę na istotny problem kodyfikacji najnowszych zapożyczeń anglo-amerykańskiej proweniencji we współczesnej ruszczyźnie. Temat standaryzacji zapożyczeń jest aktualny i niezwykle ważny, bowiem ma on zasięg globalny, zatem dotyczy nie tylko języka rosyjskiego, lecz wielu innych języków narodowych, które znajdują się pod wpływem angielszczyzny – współczesnej lingua franca. Badanie kodyfikacji leksyki obcego pochodzenia oparto na materiale zaczerpniętym z najnowszych rosyjskojęzycznych czasopism kolorowych typu life style. Ten rodzaj prasy szczególnie ochoczo rozpowszechnia zapożyczone neologizmy, jednocześnie kreuje uzus danego dyskursu. Wyekscerpowany materiał porównano z leksyką zawartą w najnowszych słownikach ortograficznych języka rosyjskiego. Niniejsze rozważania dają obraz fragmentu rzeczywistości językowej zmieniającej się pod wpływem wszechobecnej angielszczyzny, w której uzus konkuruje z normą językową. Ponadto wskazano tu szereg problemów wywoływanych zapożyczeniami leksykalnymi, z którymi zmagają się specjaliści z obszaru językoznawstwa normatywnego (np. powszechny problem wariantywności ortograficznej zapożyczeń).

    Do współczesnej polszczyzny przenika coraz więcej wyrazów zapożyczonych z języka angielskiego. Leksemy te nazywają zjawiska społeczne, gospodarcze, kulturowe, które pojawiają się na świecie, a później także w Polsce. Część z nich ma polskie odpowiedniki, inne (jeszcze) nie, funkcjonują więc w oryginalnej, obcojęzycznej postaci. Niniejszy artykuł przedstawia sposoby definiowania anglicyzmów w internetowych artykułach informacyjnych w celu wyjaśnienia ich znaczeń odbiorcom nowych mediów (m.in. typy definiowania zapożyczeń i ich wyznaczniki językowe, rodzaje semów wykorzystywane w definicjach). Analiza koncentruje się wokół opisu wewnętrznej struktury wypowiedzi definiującej: definiendum, łącznika definicyjnego i przede wszystkim definiensa, który jest podstawowym przekaźnikiem znaczenia leksemu. Jak dowodzą badania, dziennikarze stosują różne sposoby definiowania anglicyzmów, np. definiowanie słownikowe, klasyczne, kontekstowe; częściowe, całościowe; wyraźne, metaforyczne. Internetowe wypowiedzi definicyjne cechują się różnorodnością językową (leksykalną, składniową, strukturalną, stylistyczną), stosowaną przez nadawcę medialnego w celu wyjaśnienia znaczenia zapożyczenia, a także – co ważne dla tekstu medialnego – uatrakcyjnienia formy przekazu.
    Les mots empruntés à l’anglais pénètrent de plus en plus dans la langue polonaise contemporaine. Ils désignent des phénomènes sociaux, économiques et culturels qui apparaissent dans le monde, et plus tard en Pologne aussi. Certains d’entre ces emprunts ont des équivalents polonais, d’autres pas (encore) et sont donc écrits selon leur orthographe étrangère d’origine. Cet article présente des modes de définir les anglicismes dans les articles de presse en ligne pour expliquer leurs significations aux lecteurs des médias numériques (par exemple, types de définitions des emprunts et leurs marqueurs linguistiques, types de sèmes inclus dans les définitions). L’analyse porte sur la structure interne d'un énoncé définitoire : definiendum, marqueur définitoire et, surtout, definiens qui donne le sens du lexème. Les recherches ont démontré que les journalistes utilisent diverses méthodes pour définir les anglicismes, telles que : définition lexicographique, classique, contextuelle ; partielle, complète ; explicite, métaphorique. Les énoncés définitoires relevés de la presse numérique sont diversifiés sur le plan lexical, syntaxique, structurel, stylistique. L’auteur d’un article en ligne exploite cette diversité pour expliquer le sens d’un emprunt et – dans le cas d'un texte médiatique – pour rendre la forme de communication plus attrayante.
    More and more words borrowed from English are penetrating contemporary Polish. Such lexemes give name to the social, economic and cultural phenomena that are appearing all over the world, and which later arrive in Poland. Some of them have Polish equivalents, whilst others do not (yet) have, so they function in their original, foreign language form. This article presents ways of defining anglicisms in informational articles on the Internet in order to explain their meanings to new readers of the media (e.g. the types of borrowing and their linguistic determinants, the types of sems used in the definitions, etc.). The analysis focuses on the description of the internal structure of the defining utterance: the definiendum, the definition hyphen and, above all, the definiens, which is the basic transmitter of the meaning of the lexeme. Research has shown that journalists use various methods for defining anglicisms, such as: dictionary, classical, contextual, and cognitive definitions; partial and complete definitions; and neutral and metaphorical definitions. The Internet definition statements are characterised by linguistic diversity (lexical, syntactic, structural, and stylistic), used by the media broadcaster to explain the meaning of the borrowing, and – more importantly, for a media text – to make the form of communication more attractive.

    The focus of this paper is the impact of English observed in the language of an international magazine Cosmopolitan. The research was conducted taking into account three language versions of the monthly magazine: Russian, Polish and Spanish. Factual material was excerpted from the periodicals published in 2017–2021. Taking up this topic stems from the need to fill the gap in research on the language of luxury magazines, which have a great influence on forming the canons of linguistic norms and the linguistic awareness of their readers. The aim of the study is to analyze the collected Anglicisms (mainly loanwoard) in terms of their function, way of adaptation and presentation in the text space. Determining the reasons for the popularity of foreign forms in a given language space is also an important point of analysis. An additional assumption of the publication is to indicate the connections between the use of borrowings and the ideological concept of the magazine with cosmopolitanism.

    Heutzutage wird der deutsche Wortschatz durch zahlreiche Anglizismen bereichert. Das Ziel des Artikels besteht darin, mittels einer Analyse ausgewählter österreichischer Onlinezeitungen festzustellen, ob Anglizismen eine häufige Erscheinung in der österreichischen Pressesprache sind. Der Analyse werden Wiener Zeitung, Der Standard und Heute unterzogen. Der Zugang der Onlinezeitungen zu verschiedenen Gesellschaftsgruppen bildete das Kriterium bei der Auswahl. Die für die Untersuchung ausgewählten Artikel wurden im Jahre 2021 veröffentlicht. Am Beispiel der analysierten Onlinezeitungen lässt sich feststellen, dass Anglizismen in der österreichischen Pressesprache relativ selten verwendet werden und ihre Häufigkeit von der Art der Zeitung und dem Thema der Artikel abhängen kann.
    As it is today, numerous Anglicisms flow into the German language. Using selected articles published in the Austrian magazines Wiener Zeitung, Der Standard and Heute, a study on the use of Anglicisms was conducted to investigate whether this phenomenon is frequent or not in the Austrian press. The primary criterion for selecting these magazines was their broad scope of subjects presented addressed to various societal groups. This criterion approach presumably allows for representative observations on the issue in focus. The results of the study indicate that the occurrence of Anglicisms is very low and depends on the thematic profile of the magazine.

    One of the common reasons for borrowing is the introduction of new objects or the rise of new cultural, historical, political or social phenomena and the need to name them. The import of loanwords is extremely common in the domain of sports, especially as new disciplines develop, because, as Jarosz (2015) noted, general language is insufficient for dealing with various aspects characteristic of a given discipline, such as actions or equipment. Thus, within sports vocabulary a great deal of newly coined lexemes may be found, which have been categorised by Ożdżyński (1970) as: (i) loanwords, (ii) native neologisms (derivatives and compounds), (iii) semantic neologisms, and (iv) phraseological units. It is believed that the terminology related to various billiard sports depicts the provenance of the discipline. For instance, a Polish pool-billiard (pocket-billiard) player pots balls into a pocket called łuza, which seems to have been borrowed from French, whereas a Polish snooker player pots balls into a pocket called kieszeń, which is a loan translation from English. The aim of the article is to investigate the sports vocabulary used by snooker commentators in order to ascertain the kind of terminology that has been adopted by Polish commentators to cover the meanings related to snooker. As this discipline is relatively young, having been popularised in Poland only at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries, the vocabulary is still developing. Therefore, the choice of spoken language to conduct the analysis gives us a chance to see the most up-to-date state of the lexicon. Attention will be paid to the various types of borrowings in order to see the motivation behind the processes involved in coining particular lexical items.     Celem, jaki sobie wyznaczyłam, jest nie tyle próba syntetycznego opisu podstawowych kierunków transformacji współczesnej polszczyzny zaistniałych w wyniku procesu globalizacji, ile wskazanie najistotniejszych skutków amerykanizacji języka polskiego w XXI wieku. Generalizując, namacalnym efektem globalizacji na gruncie języka polskiego jest z jednej strony przejmowanie anglo-amerykańskich leksemów, frazeologizmów czy nierodzimego prepozycyjnego szyku wyrazów w zdaniu (typu sport telegram, play lista, radio reklama). Z drugiej zaś adaptacja zaanektowanych anglo-amerykańskich wyrazów o zasięgu międzynarodowym (ang. roaming – pol. roamingowy, ang. SMS – pol. esemesik, esemesek, esemeśnik, esemesiara) oraz zwiększenie zakresu i liczby compositów w wyniku słowotwórczej adaptacji zapożyczeń seryjnych i tworzenia na ich wzór kolejnych struktur (np. derywaty z członem cyber-, e-, euro-, seks-, narko-). Autorzy kanonicznych opracowań językoznawczych za najważniejsze przyczyny przejmowania  pożyczek z języka angielskiego w odmianie amerykańskiej przez użytkowników współczesnej polszczyzny uznają: wygodę, częstotliwość występowania i używania anglo-amerykanizmów, konieczność nazywania nowych desygnatów i pojęć, dominację języka angielskiego w biznesie oraz prestiż angielszczyzny. Prognzowane skutki amerykanizacji polszczyzny to: moda na pożycznki angielskie, postrzeganie świata oczami Amerykanina i przejmowanie amerykańskich znaków kulturowych, karnawalizacja kultury oraz Ponglish (P. Korcz, M. Matulewski, Wpływ globalizacji na powstanie polsko-angielskiego pidżynu zawodowego, „Język. Komunikacja. Informacja” 2006, nr 1, s. 83-84).
    My goal in writing this article is not so much to provide a synthetic description of the basic directions of transformation of modern Polish brought on by globalisation, but to indicate the most important effects of the Americanisation of Polish in the 21st century. In general, one tangible effect of globalisation on the Polish language is on one hand to the borrowing of Anglo-American lexemes, phrases, or word order (e.g. sport telegram, play lista, radio reklama). On the other hand there is the adaptation of internationally used Anglo-American terms (e.g. roaming – pol. roamingowy, SMS – pol. esemesik, esemesek, esemeśnik, esemesiara), as well as increasing the range and number of composite words by creating new structures based on borrowed words (e.g. derivatives with the prefix cyber-, e-, euro-, sex-, narco-). The authors of the canon linguistic works see the most important causes of borrowing from American English into Polish in: comfort, frequency of occurrence and use of Anglo-American vocabulary, the need to name new designates and terms, the dominance of English in business and its prestige. The predicted effects of the Americanisation of Polish include: a fashion for such borrowings, adaptation of an American point of view and cultural signifiers, carnivalisation of culture and “Ponglish” (P.
