This study aims to assess the validity and reliability of the Questionnaire Learning Environment of Numeracy (QLEN) which consists of 60 items. The research was conducted on 264 students in the pilot study and 566 students in the extensive stage from six junior high schools in Central Kalimantan Province Indonesia. Analysis was conducted using confirmatory factor analysis and the Rasch model. The result showed that 58 items were valid and fit the Rasch model, item reliability value of 0.99 and a person reliability of 0.98. Thus, QLEN is a valid and reliable instrument to measure the numeracy learning environment.

Opis:
The research aims to recognize the potential of adopting the model-based design methodology to the development process of an LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) fuelling system. Changing regulations often force the modern development of internal combustion engines (Euro 7, CO2 reduction measures, etc.). With the definitive ban on new registrations of vehicles powered by internal combustion engines in Europe (planned for 2035), there is still ongoing development of the adaptation of the fuelling system to LPG. There is still market potential in adapting new internal combustion engines, usually equipped with direct injection systems, to reduce customers’ cost of ownership of a vehicle. As the engineering process should be accelerated in the face of the variety of direct injection systems offered by OEMs (original equipment manufacturers), the model-based design methodology is proposed to make the development more effective. The article presents the SWOT analysis of this approach in the engineering process and the potential of the method in an LPG system development is concluded.

The study presents the design process and analysis of the spatial structure of the Formula Student vehicle. An important issue is such a concept of the vehicle frame that it is possible to design an optimal version of the front and rear axle suspension. Therefore, an important element of the design is the correct geometry of the frame around the mounting points of the front and rear suspension, and it will allow the use of electric vehicle drive. The analysis of the current frame structure has been compared to the previous structures created in the Silesia Automotive Student Science Club. Particular attention was paid to the weight of the element and its strength properties, and these parameters received the most attention.
W opracowaniu przedstawiono proces projektowania oraz analizę struktury przestrzennej pojazdu Formuły Student. Istotną kwestią jest taka koncepcja ramy pojazdu, aby możliwe było zaprojektowanie optymalnej wersji zawieszenia przedniej i tylnej osi. Dlatego ważnym elementem konstrukcji jest odpowiednia geometria ramy wokół punktów mocowania przedniego i tylnego zawieszenia, która pozwoli na wykorzystanie napędu pojazdu elektrycznego. Analizę obecnej konstrukcji ramowej porównano z poprzednimi konstrukcjami powstałymi w Śląskim Studenckim Motoryzacyjnym Kole Naukowym. Szczególną uwagę zwrócono na wagę elementu oraz jego właściwości wytrzymałościowe i tym właśnie parametrom poświęcono najwięcej uwagi.

Marine accidents are caused by complex and diverse causes. Therefore, it is necessary to analyse accidents from the perspective of the whole system rather than the existing analysis models that focus on cause-effect. The STAMP analysis is a constraint-based model that focuses on improper management or enforcement of safety-related constraints in system operation. Thus, as a case study of the application of the STAMP technique in marine accident analysis, the Milano Bridge pier contact accident that occurred on April 6, 2020 in Busan New Port of South Korea was analysed by the STAMP technique in this study. Through this study, it was proposed to break away from the domestic accident investigation, which focused only on the punishment of the ship operator, and to suggest improvements that enable organizations related to the marine accidents to take initiative to take efforts for safety.

Suicide rates in Europe have in the recent years reached a disturbingly high level, sparking frequent discussions on the topic of mental health and suicide prevention, which significantly affect not only individuals but also their environment. The aim of this paper was to analyse the impact of the socio-economic situation on suicide rates using panel data analysis. The study presents an overview of the related literature and the definitions of essential terms concerning suicide, as well as the socio-economic factors determining suicide rates. The parameters of a fixed effects model were estimated, interpreted and compared with the results of earlier research. The analysis of the selected dataset showed that GDP per capita and the Gini coefficient have a negative and statistically insignificant impact on suicide rates. On the other hand, the conducted research showed that high divorce and unemployment rates, risk of poverty, social exclusion and excessive alcohol consumption proved to be statistically significant, thus increasing suicide rates.

Unemployment is an important macroeconomic issue both in theoretical terms and for economic reality. On the theoretical ground, the unemployment rate, which is a measure of the share of unemployed units of the labour supply in the economy, determines the output gap at a certain adjustment parameter determined by the marginal productivity of labour. One of the causes of rising or persistent unemployment in the economy is the phenomenon of unemployment hysteresis, which occurs as a result of changes in the marginal disutility of labour, the strength of the wage bargain and other exogenous conditions arising in previous periods. The purpose of the study conducted in the following paper is to investigate the phenomenon of hysteresis in the labour market by analysing the significance of the impact of the unemployment rate in previous periods. In addition, the work aims to study Okun’s Law as an effect of production dynamics on the unemployment rate. The study of the dependence was carried out through the estimation of a macroeconometric time series model—vector-autoregression (VAR) on the example of statistical data for Poland obtained from Statistics Poland (Stat.gov.pl) and complied raports about national accounts in the quarterly sequence for the years 2015–2021. The period of the study was arbitrarily selected with the observation of business cycle fluctuations in the above time frame. Empirical analysis of selected structural parameters through estimation of the vector-autore- gression model showed a significant influence of the time series in the formation of the unemployment rate, which confirms the influence of the analysed phenomenon of hysteresis in the labour market. In addition, the vector-autoregression model for inter- val forecasting through the use of dynamic prediction proved to be a posteriori accurate forecasting model of the unemployment rate in the Polish economy.

Research background: Effective monitoring of financial health is essential in the financial management of enterprises. Early studies to predict corporate bankruptcy were published at the beginning of the last century. The prediction models were developed with a significant delay even among the Visegrad group countries. Purpose of the article: The primary aim of this study is to create a model for predicting bankruptcy based on the financial information of 20,693 enterprises of all sectors that operated in the Visegrad group countries during the post-pandemic period (2020-2021) and identify significant predictors of bankruptcy. To reduce potential losses to shareholders, investors, and business partners brought on by the financial distress of enterprises, it is possible to use multiple discriminant analysis to build individual prediction models for each Visegrad group country and a complex model for the entire Visegrad group. Methods: A bankruptcy prediction model is developed using multiple discriminant analysis. Based on this model, prosperity is assessed using selected corporate financial indicators, which are assigned weights such that the difference between the average value calculated in the group of prosperous and non-prosperous enterprises is as large as possible. Findings & value added: The created models based on 6-14 financial indicators were developed using different predictor combinations and coefficients. For all Visegrad group countries, the best variable with the best discriminating power was the total indebtedness ratio, which was included in each developed model. These findings can be used also in other Central European countries where the economic development is similar to the analyzed countries. However, sufficient discriminant ability is required for the model to be used in practice, especially in the post-pandemic period, when the financial health and stability of enterprises is threatened by macroeconomic development and the performance and prediction ability of current bankruptcy prediction models may have decreased. Based on the results, the developed models have an overall discriminant ability greater than 88%, which may be relevant for academicians to conduct further empirical studies in this field.

In biomedical research, challenges to working with multiple events are often observed while dealing with time-to-event data. Studies on prolonged survival duration are prone to having numerous possibilities. In studies on prolonged survival, patients might die of other causes. Sometimes in the survival studies, patients experienced some events (e.g. cancer relapse) before dying within the study period. In this context, the semi-competing risks framework was found useful. Similarly, the prolonged duration of follow-up studies is also affected by censored observation, especially interval censoring, and right censoring. Some conventional approaches work with time-to-event data, like the Cox-proportional hazard model. However, the accelerated failure time (AFT) model is more effective than the Cox model because it overcomes the proportionality hazard assumption. We also observed covariates impacting the time-to-event data measured as the categorical format. No established method currently exists for fitting an AFT model that incorporates categorical covariates, multiple events, and censored observations simultaneously. This work is dedicated to overcoming the existing challenges by the applications of R programming and data illustration. We arrived at a conclusion that the developed methods are suitable to run and easy to implement in R software. The selection of covariates in the AFT model can be evaluated using model selection criteria such as the Deviance Information Criteria (DIC) and Log-pseudo marginal likelihood (LPML). Various extensions of the AFT model, such as AFT-DPM and AFT-LN, have been demonstrated. The final model was selected based on minimum DIC values and larger LPML values.

There is a dearth of critical ethnographic research that focuses on the semiotic-discursive features of corporate social responsibility (CSR) framing in business and nonprofit (BUS-NPO) partnerships. This article contributes to CSR scholarship by combining ethnographic methods (participant observation, in-depth interviews, and textual materials) and semiotic analysis to demonstrate how a bank-NPO partnership is discursively framed in the context of agonistic interactions and its implications in terms of cooptation. This article crystallizes two arguments. First, the bank’s joint CSR initiatives represent a discursively framed and validated model of CSR as a commodity aiming at advancing bank interests at the cost of avoiding substantive and sustained social responsibility. Second, the joint CSR model, discursively framed as a cooptative partnership discourse, is effectively realized through the practices of the cooptative relationship between the bank and the NPOs.

This study investigates the efficacy of the Kano Model in decoding consumer preferences for food packaging. Recognizing the pivotal role of packaging in product satisfaction and purchase decisions, this research integrates the Kano Model with contemporary market analysis. A survey was conducted with a diverse panel of consumers who rated various packaging features of existing food products. The results were analyzed to determine the impact of these features on consumer satisfaction and their potential to elevate the perceived value of the products. The study uncovered that while basic safety and hygiene factors were deemed essential, innovative elements such as eco-friendly materials and interactive labels significantly enhanced customer delight. Opis:
The studying the dynamic response of steel-concrete railway bridges of Langer type is huge importance of ensuring the safety of such structures under high-speed train loads. Numerical simulations at the design stage require knowledge of the modal characteristics: natural frequencies, shapes and damping. In addition, in the dynamics of railway bridges subjected to high-speed trains, it is important to check the impact of dynamic effects on the ultimate and serviceability limit states. As part of the investigations displacements and accelerations of selected measurement points arising from driving the test rolling stock are analyzed. In the first stage, calculations of the eigenvalues and the corresponding eigenvectors were carried out in the Robot program for two variants of mass description (distributed and discrete). In the second stage, dynamic train passages for various vehicle speeds were examined in terms of displacements and accelerations of measurement points by using the authors’ program MES3D.
Badanie odpowiedzi dynamicznej stalowo-betonowych mostów kolejowych typu Langera ma ogromne znaczenie dla zapewnienia bezpieczeństwa takich obiektów pod obciążeniem pociągów dużych prędkości. Symulacje numeryczne na etapie projektowania wymagają znajomości charakterystyk modalnych: częstotliwości drgań własnych, form i tłumienia. Dodatkowo w dynamice mostów kolejowych poddanych działaniu pociągów szybkobieżnych istotne jest sprawdzenie wpływu efektów dynamicznych na stany graniczne nośności i użytkowalności. W ramach badań analizowano przemieszczenia i przyspieszenia wybranych punktów pomiarowych powstałych od jazdy taborem próbnym. W pierwszym etapie przeprowadzono obliczenia wartości własnych i odpowiadających im wektorów własnych w programie Robot dla dwóch wariantów opisu masy (rozłożonej i dyskretnej). W drugim etapie zbadano przebiegi dynamiczne dla różnych prędkości pociągów pod kątem przemieszczeń i przyspieszeń punktów pomiarowych za pomocą autorskiego programu MES3D.

The study presents the finite element (FE) model update of the existing simple-spans steel-concrete composite bridge structure using a particle swarm optimisation (PSO) and genetic algorithm (GA) approaches. The Wireless Structural Testing System (STS-WiFi) of Bridge Diagnostic, Inc. from the USA, implemented various types of sensors including: LVDT displacement sensors, intelligent strain transducers, and accelerometers that the static and dynamic historical behaviors of the bridge structure have been recorded in the field testing. One part of all field data sets has been used to calibrate the cross-sectional stiffness properties of steel girders and material of steel beams and concrete deck in the structural members including 16 master and slave variables, and that the PSO and GA optimisation methods in the MATLAB software have been developed with the new innovative tools to interface with the analytical results of the FE model in the ANSYS APDL software automatically. The vibration analysis from the dynamic responses of the structure have been conducted to extract four natural frequencies from experimental data that have been compared with the numerical natural frequencies in the FE model of the bridge through the minimum objective function of percent error to be less than 10%. In order to identify the experimental mode shapes of the structure more accurately and reliably, the discrete-time state-space model using the subspace method (N4SID) and fast Fourier transform (FFT) in MATLAB software have been applied to determine the experimental natural frequencies in which were compared with the computed natural frequencies. The main goal of the innovative approach is to determine the representative FE model of the actual bridge in which it is applied to various truck load configurations according to bridge design codes and standards. The improved methods in this document have been successfully applied to the Vietnamese steel-concrete composite bridge in which the load rating factors (RF) of the AASHTO design standards have been calculated to predict load limits, so the final updated FE model of the existing bridge is well rated with all RF values greater than 1.0. The presented approaches show great performance and the potential to implement them in industrial conditions.

Managers of enterprises must constantly face the continual changes on the market and fight for survival in a world of high competition. Therefore, it is important to systematically monitor the company’s financial condition. This will help to identify problems and give specific time to take corrective action. Bankruptcy prediction models are usually constructed for local goals. The purpose of the article is to build not only regional but also general discriminant and logit models for the SMEs operating in the construction industry in Visegrád Group countries. A total of 32 unique models were built and verified along with the Altman model for emerging markets. The paper also contributes to the literature by assessing the stability of the constructed models over time, which the models’ authors do not usually measure. The results showed that regional models are characterized by higher accuracy than general ones. However, general models can be adapted to the analyzed Visegrád Group with an accuracy of approximately 90%. The G1 LR model can be considered the best model, as it has relatively high accuracy and over-time stability.

The BM as a holistic concept featuring different interacting elements is thus emerging as a promising vehicle for innovation. Current BM research describes the entire domain but lacks depth in the characterization of its individual components. This paper investigates the available manufacturing literature through the lens of the BM concept performing a scientometric analysis. The results are presented in a relational framework that provides an in-depth characterization of the manufacturing element of the BM and highlights identified connections that link the BM components. This is the basis for tools that will support firms in developing manufacturing portfolios aligned with their strategic goals.

Opis:
This paper shows the impact of material nonlinearity of a dam-foundation rock system on seismic performance of Oued Fodda concrete gravity dam, located at northwestern side of Algeria. For the purpose, a three-dimensional dam-foundation rock system finite element model is employed in analyses. The hydrodynamic interaction between reservoir water and dam-foundation system is implicitly taken into consideration by the Westergaard approach using surface finite elements added to dam-fluid and foundation-fluid interfaces. The concrete material model is used to present the cracking of dam concrete under a seismic load the using smeared crack approach based on the Willam and Warnke failure criterion. The materially nonlinear analysis for both dam concrete and foundation rock is performed using Drucker- -Prager model. According to numerical results, tensile stresses and maximum strains reduce significantly in the materially nonlinear model. In addition, the cracking areas in the dam decrease also when material nonlinearity characteristics of the dam-foundation rock system is considered in analyses.
