Opis:
To reduce crewmembers’ error and increase the safety of ships’ navigation, a recognition system of collision risks among multiple ships is newly-developed. By using ships’ navigational information such as AIS data, an algorithm to calculate collision risks among multiple ships is newly-designed. Collision risks of multiple ships can be estimated considering ships’ position and course of now and future by using fuzzy algorithm. To evaluate the performance of new system, replay simulation is carried out by using actual AIS data of actual collision accident in Korea. In this paper, main features of the monitoring system of collision risks and the results of replay simulation are discussed.

There have been presented necessary ways of fostering the youth employment and major development prospects of the youth segment of the labour market. There have been given recommendations regarding ways of improvement of the situation for youth in the labour market.

The paper introduces the academic work performed at the Cultural Animation Unit of the University of Zielona Gora. It focuses on running discussions within the academic seminar. The main part of the article is the example of the problem discussed on the seminar, although infrequently undertaken in the gerontological literature. The problem concerns the violence of the elderly against their immediate environment. Listed examples of the behaviour of elderly people, described in the literature or observed in every day life, let us consider the behaviour of this social category only as genial or hostile. What is more, the examples show the variability of its behaviour in the context of transformation of social roles possible to perform in this age.
W tekście tym we wprowadzeniu przedstawiona jest praca naukowa Zakładu Animacji Kulturalnej Uniwersytetu Zielonogórskiego, której jednym z trzech rodzajów jest prowadzenie dyskusji w ramach seminarium naukowego. Zasadnicza część artykułu jest przykładem dyskutowanego na tym seminarium problemu, rzadko podejmowanego w literaturze gerontologicznej, jakim jest przemoc ludzi starych wobec najbliższego otoczenia. Wymienione przykłady zachowań ludzi starych opisane w literaturze lub zaobserwowane w życiu codziennym, pozwalają dopełnić znane na ogół dychotomiczne podziały postępowania przedstawicieli tej kategorii społecznej jako wyłącznie dobroduszne lub wrogie, a także zwrócić uwagę na zmienność jej zachowań, w kontekście przemiany społecznych ról, możliwych do pełnienia w tym wieku.

Introduction: Thanks to preventive medicine and shaping health behaviors such as habits, customs and attitudes towards health, it is possible to control everyday life civilization threats and new outbreaks of diseases. Purpose: To assess health behaviors and level of knowledge of birth control methods among university students in Bialystok. Materials and methods: A total of 222 students of the Bialystok Polytechnic University and Medical University of Bialystok were recruited. The study used a health behavior catalogue by Juczynski and our own questionnaire. Results: The study showed a high percentage of students with poor knowledge of health behaviors. Students of both universities positively assessed their eating habits, mental attitudes, and preventive behaviors. Students of the Bialystok Polytechnic University showed significantly higher scores concerning proper health behaviors. The most common method of contraception were: condoms and contraceptive pills. Students of Medical University were characterized by significantly higher level of knowledge of birth control methods. The vast majority of respondents derived their knowledge of birth control methods from the internet. Conclusions: The results indicate that it is advisable to introduce preventive actions to the study curriculum in order to facilitate formation of proper habits and health behaviors. The level of knowledge among students of the methods of natural birth control is insufficient. It is important to search for various forms and methods to provide young people with objective information according to the latest research.

According to the Catholic Social Teaching, tax evasion is ethically reprehensible and people who do it commit sin. The Catholic Church based its opinion first of all on the Holy Scripture (the teaching of Jesus, St. Peter’s and St. Paul’s). Also pope John Paul II, primate of Poland Stefan cardinal Wyszyński and Joseph cardinal Höffner objected to tax frauds. The survey was conducted among the students of the University of Lodz and of the Medical University of Lodz. Its aim was to examine the students’ opinion about tax evasion. The students’ answers were grouped with regard to church attendance in order to trace if there exists a correlation between church attendance and tax morality. Statistical analysis indicated a connection between church attendance and tax morality. The highest tax morality was noticed in the group of regularly practising Catholics, a bit smaller in the non-practising or unbelieving group of people and the least tax morality was noticed among the irregularly practising group of Catholics. According to the students’ opinion, the main reason to pay taxes is for fear of financial sanction. Among other reasons the respondents listed that it is a national duty or that it is necessary to cover national expenditures. It is optimistic, however, that most of the students declared to pay the taxes fairly, if they run their own corporations in the future.

An issue of aggressive behaviors performed by the youth is current and undertaken by numerous researchers, among others in psychology, pedagogy, and law. The research conducted is not only of a cognitive character but it also is connected with attempts of creating a social policy, which will allow to restrict such behaviors. Depending on a leading research trend, reasons of aggressive behaviors of the youth are being searched for in various life domains. The article presents results of empirical studies trying to characterize the so-called risk factors of aggressive behaviors of the youth. It should be underlined, that the results presented have specific character, because they refer to chosen aggressive behaviors, which are also acts against the law. In order to obtain a broader picture of the phenomenon and for comparative reasons, apart from aggressive actions of the youth, acts against property were also analyzed. Some adolescents were also included in the study, who did not have criminal record. The experiment’s main aim was to diagnose chosen aggressive and violent behaviors among the youth aged between 15 and 19 years old. The obtained results allowed to distinguish some personality traits characterizing students who engage in aggressive behaviors.

The adverbs dokona and dokonce went through a similar process of etymological and semantic development. Both of them were relatively often used by Baroque authors to mean ‘úplně, zcela’ (‘fully, completely’), and – when used with negated verbs – ‘vůbec’ (‘at all’). Whereas dokona gradually became obsolete, dokonce is currently one of the most frequent means of expressing and emphasising graduation. Although these functions are not recorded in Jungmann’s dictionary, this article demonstrates that both dokona and dokonce had these features already in Baroque texts. It is evident, then, that the Baroque period is an important stage in the development of the Czech language, and that it must not be overlooked in linguistic studies.
Proces rozwoju etymologicznego i semantycznego przysłówków dokona i dokonce był podobny. Obydwa były stosunkowo często używane przez autorów barokowych w znaczeniu ‘úplně, zcela’ (‘w pełni, całkowicie’), a w połączeniu z przeczeniem – w znaczeniu ‘vůbec’ (‘w ogóle’). O ile dokona stopniowo wyszło z użycia, dokonce jest obecnie jedną z najczęściej stosowanych form wyrażania i podkreślania gradacji. Choć takie użycie nie zostało odnotowane w słowniku Jungmanna, niniejszy artykuł wykazuje, że obydwa omawiane przysłówki pełniły te funkcje już w okresie baroku. Wydaje się zatem oczywiste, że ten okres jest istotnym etapem w rozwoju języka czeskiego i nie można go pomijać w analizach językoznawczych.

Celem artykułu jest próba odpowiedzi na pytanie, jakie inspiracje edukacyjne płyną z inicjatyw upamiętniania Sprawiedliwych, którzy ratowali Żydów w czasie II wojny światowej. Autor uważa, iż pamięć zbiorowa jest istotnym elementem kształtowania indywidualnej i zbiorowej tożsamości członków dzisiejszego społeczeństwa. W artykule dokonuje przeglądu wyników badań amerykańskich uczonych, którzy przeprowadzili wywiady z osobami ratującymi Żydów. W konkluzji stwierdza, że czyny Sprawiedliwych przypominają, iż każdy człowiek, niezależnie od uwarunkowań osobowościowych i środowiskowych, jest zdolny do podejmowania bezkompromisowych wyborów etycznych. Potrafi to czynić w sposób spontaniczny, odkładając na bok utylitarne kalkulacje, przezwyciężając lęk o siebie i najbliższych. Czynnikiem sprzyjającym takim wyborom jest wychowanie kładące nacisk na wspólne wszystkim ludziom człowieczeństwo, będące uprzednim wobec wszelkich różnic i odmienności.
The article examines what educational inspirations arise from the conduct and deeds of the Righteous, who risked their lives to save Jews during World War II. The author argues that their memory can contribute to the formation of collective human identity today. He reports and discusses the findings of selected studies by American scholars who have interviewed thousands of rescuers of Jews during the Holocaust. In conclusion, he emphasizes that the Righteous make us realize that, regardless of personality, background or context, every human being is capable of making uncompromising ethical choices and help others spontaneously, eschewing utilitarian calculations and overcoming fear for self and family. An important factor promoting such decisions is education that underscores common humanity shared by all people, which overrides all differences and dissimilarities.

Since the advent of Cognitive Linguistics in the 20th century (cf. Lakoff & Johnson, 1980/2003), the role and perception of metaphor(isation) started to change, not only among theoretical linguists and researchers, but also in the context of Applied Linguistics. Thus, no longer treated as a mere ornament or anomaly, metaphor has been more and more appreciated by educationalists, course book writers, and teachers, but also by psychologists, clinicians, and other professionals. In short, it has become an educational and a diagnostic tool in many ‘applied’ areas of human development. In line with this rekindled interest in metaphoricity, in my study I attempt to learn more about awareness and perception of metaphoric conceptualisations among English philology university students (both freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors) in the environment of academia, an environment they naturally function in and belong to. My preliminary assumption is that despite the already widely acknowledged importance of metaphors in sciences and humanities (cf. Cameron and Maslen 2010, Haase 2009, 2010; Hermann 2013), the perception and awareness of metaphorical construals in the ‘academic habitat’ among prospective English philologists may be variegated, ranging between more traditional and more modern perspectives. My intention is, then, to obtain feedback from them as it concerns their views on (the role of) metaphor(ization) in the academic habitat and beyond it, in their life and in the world in general. The results reveal that the students are closer to traditional rather than modern stances on metaphor, though the situation is more complex.

Japan's government believed that the development of ICT networks and penetration of information and communications equipment in the countryside reduce the economic and population disparities among regions. Since the latter half of the 90s, some local governments built "intelligent facilities" equipped with ICT network so as to foster the information and communications industry in their area as part of regional "informatization policy". However, "intelligent buildings" failed to attract information and communication companies, economic disparities among regions are in fact widening, while the macro economy is recovering and expanding. Main points are the contents of the regional informatization policy and the effect on the development of ICT networks and the information and communication industry. As "economy of concentration" works more in the information and communications economy, the development of ICT networks and related industries would concentrate economic power in urban areas. At present, it is essential for the regional informatization policy to develop information and telecommunications infrastructure that addresses the needs of residents who lack access to information, and to implement careful information literacy education for residents.

W artykule ukazano nudę jako stan doświadczany przez uczniów chorujących przewlekle. Celem badań było ustalenie objawów nudy pojawiającej się u dzieci i młodzieży w trakcie długotrwałej hospitalizacji oraz ukazanie sposobów pozwalających pacjentom na wyjście poza nieprzyjemne emocje wynikające ze znudzenia. Postawiono pytania badawcze: Czym objawia się nuda u osób chorujących przewlekle? Jakie są sposoby zapobiegania nudzie? Praca ma charakter empiryczny. Zastosowano metodę sondażu diagnostycznego z wykorzystaniem techniki projekcyjnej Zdania niedokończone (dla pacjentów) oraz techniki wywiadu (dla nauczycieli szkoły szpitalnej). Puentą artykułu jest przedstawienie sugestii dla uczniów/pacjentów: Fenomenalne antidotum na nudę, czyli co zaproponować nudzącym się chorym dzieciom. Pomysły są efektem przeprowadzonej wśród studentów pedagogiki burzy mózgów.
In her article, Krystyna Moczia addresses the condition of boredom experienced by students who suffer from chronic diseases. The aim of her research has been to identify the symptoms of boredom experienced by children and adolescents during long-term hospitalization and to examine the ways to help these patients to deal with the unpleasant emotions caused by boredom. Moczia asks the following research questions: How does boredom manifest itself in chronic patients? What are the ways to prevent boredom? Her approach is empirical and she has used the method of a diagnostic survey assisted by the projection technique (open-ended questions addressed to patients) and interviews (with teachers at the hospital school). Her objective has been to come up with a manual containing suggestions for students/patients: “A Phenomenal Antidote to Boredom, or Suggestions for Children Suffering from Chronic Diseases and Boredom”. This manual has been based in a brainstorming session carried out with students of educational sciences.

Nowadays, increasingly more attention is being paid to the issue of aggressive behaviour, primarily owing to a stronger awareness of children’s rights and parents’ responsibility to promote them. The number of systematic studies dealing with the relational level and the area of covert aggressive behaviour is limited. In the past, studies investigating aggressive behaviour primarily focused on its most typical manifestation, i.e. physical aggression. In the postmodern period, however, experts have begun to explore different forms of aggressive behaviour which are particularly typical of girls. In this study the authors focused on various forms of covert violence to which girls in elementary schools are exposed. The descriptions of behaviours provided by both teachers and girls reveal a variety of forms of covert aggression among girls as well as a range of related incidents and their causes.

The rescue of Jews during the Second World War is one of the least studied issues in the historiography of the Holocaust. The Galicia Region, one of the areas where a total Nazi extermination of Jews occurred, became a region from where a large number of Righteous Among the Nations came – Ukrainians and Poles. The article includes an analysis of the motivations that became the basis for people’s decision to help Jews under the extreme conditions which threatened their lives and the lives of their close ones. It highlights the response of the occupation authorities to rescue actions taken by the non-Jewish population. Despite the unambiguity of the Nazi orders to punish severely those who helped Jews, the real implementation of such sanctions varied. Finally, the article analyses the main determinants (of social, economic, and religious nature) that played an important role in making the decision whether to join the rescue process. The article concludes that no political which could had saved Jews, did lead to any systematic rescue efforts directed at Western Ukrainian Jews, yet the survival of those Jews who were hunter was possible for the deeds of some Polish and Ukrainian people.

Opis:
The article considers the issue of virtual international academic mobility as one of the priority areas of international activities of higher education institutions. It is substantiated that the intensive development of information and communication technologies (knowledge mobility) and informatisation of public life led to the spread and use of virtual educational environments and e-learning in higher education, which became the basis for the development of virtual academic mobility of students. The purpose of the study is to study the existing approaches and practices of academic mobility, including virtual, to determine the main benefits and opportunities for disseminating this experience at all levels of higher education in Ukraine. The research methodology consists of general theoretical and empirical research methods. A review of modern scientific literature, periodicals, and scientific and methodological sources on the problem of academic mobility and the digitalisation of higher education is made. Their analysis, structuring, interpretation and construction of logical conclusions are highlighted. The article considers the content of the main scientific approaches to the definition of “academic mobility”. The characteristic of academic mobility in the conditions of digitalisation of higher education is given. Varieties of academic mobility in modern conditions of digitalisation of higher education (physical, virtual, mixed) are considered. The subjects of virtual academic mobility (virtual student, virtual teacher, virtual university, virtual campus) are outlined. The main advantages and disadvantages of such virtual academic mobility of students are identified. The main methodological recommendations of European funds and associations are analysed, based on which the project preparation plan for any virtual mobility type is developed. It is proposed to carry out additional measures that ensure the quantitative growth of academic (virtual) mobility and improve its quality. The necessity of searching for new forms of remote exchanges, analysis of the experience of foreign associations and their adaptation according to the realities of the system of higher education in Ukraine is substantiated: the active involvement of the student’s audience in programmes of virtual cooperation; increasing the necessary competencies of the administrative and teaching staff of higher education institutions, which allow implementing such virtual projects using innovative information technology tools; preparation of the regulatory framework that enshrines the right to implement virtual academic mobility along with the full-time form and recognition of its results by recalculating educational loans.
