The objective of this article is to attempt to analyse the new regulations in The Law of the Ukraine in Elections of People’s Deputies of Ukraine of November 17, 2011 in the context of the guarantee of compliance with the principle of alternation in power. The authors ask questions is the answer to the following question: To what extent do the new regulations in electoral law guarantee the principle of alternation in power and to what extent do they contribute to the monopoly of the ruling party. Considering the research problem presented in the introduction it is necessary to state that, on the one hand, partial guarantee’s of the principle alternation in power is a characteristic trait of the Ukrainian electoral system, while on the other hand, aspiration of the ruling party to maintain its monopoly is also fairly evident.
Artykuł porusza zagadnienia analizy nowych zapisów ustawy o wyborach deputowanych do Rady Najwyższej Ukrainy z 17 listopada 2011 r. w kontekście gwarancji zasady alternacji władzy. Autorki stawiają pytanie o to w jakim stopniu nowe zapisy ordynacji wyborczej zapewniają zasadę alternację władzy a w jakim stopniu prowadzą do monopolu partii rządzącej. Autorki rozstrzygając postawiony we wstępie problem badawczy, doszły do wniosków, że specyfiką ukraińskiego systemu wyborczego jest z jednej strony częściowe zagwarantowanie zasady alternacji władzy, z drugiej wyraźne dążenie partii rządzącej do utrzymania jej monopolu. Daje to podstawy twierdzić, że przykład ten możemy traktować jako pewnego rodzaju hybrydę między antynomicznymi punktami continuum.

The object of interest in this paper is verbs describing situations where substances or objects are being removed from a surface. Such verbs are characterised by being subject to locative alternation, which could be exemplified by constructions such as: Dozorca zamiata śmieci z ulicy. → Dozorca zamiata ulicę (ze śmieci) (The caretaker is sweeping litter from the street. → The caretaker is sweeping the street (to remove litter)). The phenomenon of alternation consists in regular variantivity in the syntactic manifestation of verb arguments, whereas locative alternation, according to Beth Levin, concerns at least two manners of expressing arguments assuming the following properties: 1. ‘an object changing its location’ (locatum argument), and 2. ‘a location’ (location argument) in a sentence (Levin 1993: 50). The principal objective of the paper is to discuss whether and how locative alternation is taken into account and described in selected Polish-, English-, and Russian-language specialist lexicographic publications, such as: the Valence Dictionary (Walenty), FrameNet, and Leksykograf (Lexicographer), a base of Russian verbs. The analysis is also aimed to answer the question if the alternating syntactic structures reveal any change in the communicated content and, more specifi cally, in the manner of illustrating a given situation.

The opposition is an institution of the political regime, whose essential function is to allow alternation of power. According to the political scientist, it is a phenomenon from the sphere of governance, where different imperious and subordinate entities are in a relationship with partially common goals and partly contradictory, but remain always mutually dependent. The importance of the political opposition depends not only on the adopted institutional solutions, but primarily the political culture. Just as every society has the government it deserves, by analogy, the same is also true of the opposition.

This article examines the second language acquisition (SLA) of Spanish dative clitics in clitic doubling (CLD) structures that are closely related to the double object construction (DOC) in English and Dutch. It also addresses the question of how adult English and Dutch speakers learning L2 Spanish in a formal setting develop knowledge and use of the animacy constraint in the target language, which is different from the first language (L1) counterparts. The role of transfer in acquiring new syntactic structures has been taken into account, where dative clitics appear and animate objects are marked by the dative preposition ‘to.’ New findings are obtained on CLD and the Spanish animacy constraint from a grammaticality judgement task (GJT), completed by English and Dutch learners at B1 and B2 CEFR levels. The difficulties learners experienced were not always due to negative L1 transfer, but also related to the complexity of the argument structure where the clitic is inserted. This has clear implications for the teaching of pronominal elements which are closely related to different syntactic configurations in Spanish.

Dative Altemation has given rise to a lot of controversy in the linguistic studies, especially in the reference to the inherent meaning of give verbs and its relation to the arguments projection. The aim of this paper is to provide support to Rappaport Hovav and Levin (2005) thesis that challenges a recently prevailing polysemy approach, which characterizes dativizable verbs of giving as having two inherent meanings. To provide data and support to Levin and Rappaport Hovav (2005) proposal concerning monosemy of dativizable give verbs, first, I point out drawbacks in the polysemy approach towards verbs o f giving, future having, and verbs o f communicated message in English. This analysis takes issue with the assumptions of the polysemy approach and supports the monosemy approach to give verbs in English. In order to give more support to this observation, later, I carefully scrutinize the equivalents of English verbs o f giving, future having and verbs of communicated message in German and Polish. Both these languages show the equivalent of the Dative Alternation. The data provided from other languages demonstrates that verbs o f giving and their subtypes inherently involve only possession in their root meanings and exclude caused movement.

Contact-induced language change is pervasive in contexts involving historically minoritized languages, where social contexts are not particularly conducive to equitable intergroup relations. Empirically driven studies involving these language contexts allow us to more thoroughly understand the social and cognitive processes that lead to language change. Paradoxically, empirical data on minoritized languages is relatively scarce and expensive to generate. But in the digital age we have the ability to look beyond the traditional data types used in language studies, like spoken data gathered under fieldwork conditions, literature, etc. In this paper, I will explore the potential utility of user-created wiki data in investigating Polish influence on the Kashubian language.

Artykuł dotyczy zmiany społecznej i kulturowej, jaka miała miejsce w powiecie ełckim po 1945 roku. Alternacja społeczno-kulturowa to proces głębokiej i radykalnej przemiany przestrzeni społeczno-kulturowej będący efektem gwałtownych zmian zachodzących w szerszym otoczeniu. W wyniku wojny i decyzji politycznych obszar należący do Niemiec stał się częścią państwa polskiego. Od 1945 roku został zasiedlony głównie przez ludność etnicznie polską. Większość przedwojennych, niemieckich mieszkańców opuściła ten obszar w czasie działań wojennych lub po zakończeniu wojny. W szybkim tempie przestrzeń fizyczna została zdominowana przez polskich mieszkańców. Zgodnie z ogólną tendencją została zdegermanizowana i spolonizowana. Legitymizację działań zapewniała narracja Ziem Odzyskanych, zgodnie z którą Polacy powracali na prastare, polskie ziemie. Narracja ta była od początku uzupełniana o elementy lokalne (m.in. Michał Kajka, Jan i Hieronim Malleccy). W tym czasie wypełniała swoją integracyjną funkcję.
The article concerns the social and cultural change that took place in the Ełk county after 1945. Socio-cultural alternation is a process of profound and radical transformation of the socio-cultural space resulting from rapid changes taking place in the wider environment. As a result of the war and political decisions, the area belonging to Germany became part of the Polish state. From 1945, it was settled mainly by the ethnically Polish population. Most of the pre-war German inhabitants left this area during the war or after the war. The physical space was rapidly dominated by Polish residents. In line with the general tendency, it was degermanized and polonized. The legitimacy of the actions was ensured by the narrative of the “Regained Territories”, according to which Poles returned to the old Polish lands. This narrative was supplemented with local elements from the very beginning (including Michał Kajka, Jan Malecki and Hieronim Malecki). At that time, it was fulfilling its integrating function.

The paper is concerned with teachers' and students' alternation between L1 and L2 within the same utterance, i.e. uses of intra-sentential code-switching which in classroom discourse tends to be less accepted by modern language pedagogy than its inter-sentential counterpart. The rationale for the study is the universal nature of the phenomenon known to occur in the first place in interactions among natural bilinguals and multilinguals. The data analysis sections of the article review eight different patterns which are evaluated pedagogically. It transpires that the category most likely to arouse methodological controversy is code-mixing.

Artykuł podejmuje próbę ustalenia funkcji alternacji wokalnych i konsonantnych fonemów zarówno w morfemach rdzennych, jak też w morfemach derywacyjnych. Analiza ta została sporządzona według okresów rozwoju języka prasłowiańskiego. Wyodrębnia się je na podstawie zachodzących istotnych zmian fonologicznych głosek. W artykule szczególnej analizie poddane są formy osobowe czasowników, których temat zarówno w języku starosłowiańskim, jak i we współczesnych językach słowiańskich kończy się na tak zwaną samogłoskę tematyczną. Badaniem zostały objęte przeważnie wyrazy utworzone od rdzeni języka praindoeuropejskiego. O ich pochodzeniu świadczy fakt, że rdzenie te występują w wielu językach indoeuropejskich.
The paper attempts to determine the function of vocal and consonant alternations of phonemens in both root and derivational morfems. This analysis has been carried outby development periods of the Proto-Slavic language. Such periods are identified based on significant phonological changes of speech sounds. The paper includes a specific analysis of personal verb forms, whose stem ends in the so-called stem vowel in Old Church Slavonic as well as in modern Slavic languages.The research primarily encompassed the words derived from the roots of the Proto-Indo-European language. Their origin is confirmed by the fact that these roots are found in many Indo-European languages.

This article deals with the causative/passive polysemy in the Tomo Kan language (< Dogon < Niger-Congo). The aim of the article is to describe semantic and syntactic properties of the distant causative -má and the homonymous modal passive which are instantiations of the same morpheme. First, I show that the causative can be analyzed as a marker of distant causal relation, whereas the modal passive is a marker with the meaning of participant-external possibility. Second, I discuss a possible polysemy scenario based on the structural properties of the causative. Namely, I will argue that the passive reading could not have arisen from permissive readings of the causative marker and it is better to describe the shift in terms of subject deletion, which led to the reanalysis of the syntactic structure.

Zmiany w Polsce po wyborach w 2015 roku są przedmiotem licznych komentarzy. Wielu autorów interpretuje je w kategoriach „demontażu” demokracji, osłabienia ustrojowych i kulturowych fundamentów systemu politycznego kształtowanego w Polsce po 1989 roku. W aparaturze pojęciowej nauk społecznych brakuje terminologii pozwalającej w sposób adekwatny opisywać obserwowany proces. Ma on cechy „zwrotu”, jest próbą kompleksowej reorientacji stylu działania państwa oraz projektującej go filozofii. Artykuł zawiera propozycję analizy tego procesu jako „alternacji systemowej”. Termin ten odnosimy do sytuacji, gdy naturalna w realiach demokracji alternacja władzy stanowi początek sekwencji działań i decyzji mających status ewolucyjnej zmiany reguł funkcjonowania systemu politycznego. Współcześnie obserwujemy co najmniej trzy takie przypadki: Polska, Węgry i Turcja. Ten kontekst, wraz z jego wieloma historycznymi analogiami, kieruje uwagę w stronę poszukiwania prawidłowości procesów dedemokratyzacji (Huntington 1995; Tilly 2008), autorytarnych zwrotów przeprowadzanych w ramach systemu demokratycznego oraz przy wykorzystaniu jego procedur.
Phenomena and processes that emerged in Poland after the elections in 2015 are the subject of numerous comments. Many authors interpret them in terms of “dismantling” of democracy and weakening the political and cultural foundations of the political system shaped in Poland after 1989. The conceptual apparatus of social science is missing the terminology that would allow allowing to adequately describe the observed change. It features a “turn”, it is an attempt of comprehensive reorientation of the style of the state and its design philosophy .The article presents a proposal for the analysis of this process as a “systemic alternation.” We use this term to refer to a situation in which an alternation of power, which would be natural in democratic realities, constitutes a beginning of a sequence of actions and decisions with the status of evolutionary change of the rules of the political system. Today we observe at least three such cases: Poland, Hungary, and Turkey. This context, together with its many historical analogies, directs attention toward the search for the logics of the processes de-democratization (Huntington 1995; Tilly 2008), authoritarian turns carried out within the democratic system and using its procedures.
