Opis:
Among alloys of non-ferrous metals, aluminum alloys have found the widest application in foundry industry as a competitive alternative of ferroalloys. One from methods to improve mechanical properties of aluminum alloys is a heat treatment consisting in heating a material to solutioning temperature, keeping the material in such temperature, and subsequent rapid cooling and natural or artificial ageing. In the paper are presented test results concerning effects of the T6 heat treatment, comprising solutioning and artificial ageing, on hardness and impact strength of the AlZn10Si7MgCu alloy poured into metal moulds. Temperature ranges of solutioning and ageing treatments were selected on the base of recorded curves from the ATD method. Basing on three-stage plan of the investigations with four variables one determined range of the heat treatment parameters, what is a condition of obtainment of required HB hardness of the investigated alloy. Further investigations shall concern correction of obtained results with respect to the HB hardness and impact strength, obtained for selected castings of machinery components.

Badaniu zostało poddane żeliwo wysokochromowe o zawartości 27%Cr i 2,7%C. Przeprowadzono zabieg hartowania z temperatury 950 °C w czasie 4h, następnie odlewy poddano trzem wariantom chłodzenia – w wodzie, w kąpieli solnej i na powietrzu. Zbadano i porównano mikrostrukturę oraz twardość odlewów dla różnych wariantów chłodzenia.
High Chromium Cast Iron (HCCI) is widely use in mining and mineral industry, where abrasive resistance is a principal requirement. Its good properties thanks to the hard eutectic carbides occurring in the microstructure. The effect of heat treatment on HCCI was a subject of many research. High Chromium Cast Iron have an austenitic, austenitic-pearlitic or pearlitic matrix. An important process during the heat treatment is austenite destabilization, thus until after it conduct the martensitic transformation can occur. Depending on the cooling rate that follows the process of destabilization of austenite, perlite, bainite and martensite may form. The present work, aimed at studying the influence of cooling rate after heat treatment, on the microstructure and hardness. The study were carry out on samples of High Chromium Cast Iron containing 27%Cr i 2,7%C. Samples were subjected to the tempering treatment at the temperature of 950°C for 4 hours and three variants of cooling – in water, in a salt bath and on air. Examined and compared the microstructure and hardness of castings for different variants of cooling.

Opis:
The article presents the research results of hardness distribution of friction stir welded joint (FSW) of AW-5083 aluminium alloy. During the study used two types of tools: with cylindrical pin and with conical pin. FSW is a method of welding in the solid state, mechanical properties of joints welded by that method can be higher than that for arc welding techniques (MIG, TIG). The parameters of friction stir welding (FSW) used for joining 5083 alloy sheets were presented. Metallographic analysis of chosen joints showed the correct construction of structural bonded joints. The study was carried out using Vickers hardness HV1 in accordance with the requirements of the Polish Standard PN-EN 6507 using a hardness and microhardness-testing machine FM-800. The location of measurement points in the butt joint was determined in accordance with PN-EN 1043-1:2000. The indenter load was 9.8 N. In order to identify areas of particular characteristic of bonded joints macroscopic examination was performed using an optical microscope ZAISS AxioVert A1 MAT. The test specimens were polished and then etched with KELLER reagent. This enabled the precise identification of zones present in the joint, such as weld nugget, thermo-mechanically affected zone and native material. Hardness testing in across researched joints showed that the change of welding parameters in the range proposed in the research does not impact on the hardness distribution in the weld.

The impact of small addition of zirconium in hypoeutectic commercial AlSi10MgCu alloys on their mechanical properties (hardness) in as cast and thermally treated conditions was investigated. Small addition of zirconium does not change significantly the as cast and heat-treated microstructure of investigated alloys except to reduce the SDAS and grain size of primary α-aluminium phases. Addition of zirconium up to 0.14 wt. percentage increases the hardness of investigated alloys in as cast conditions. The increase in the hardness of samples after various solid solution times can correlate very well with the formation of small needle like coherent Al3Zr particles.

Opis:
Heat treatment is the most suitable technique for altering the microstructure and, consequently, it is possible to create the optimal balance of corrosion resistance and mechanical strength in a material by carefully regulating the conditions during the heating process. The present work aims to investigate the effect of heat treatments (annealing) at (300°C) at different times (10, 20, and 30 hr) on the magnesium alloy. How the Mg17Al12 phase influences the corrosion behavior of AZ91D magnesium alloy was quantified in different solution (SBF, Lactic and Ringer). It was able to construct an extensive range of Mg17Al12 phase volume fractions by varying the annealing period. The corrosion potential of many specimens with varied proportions of the Mg17Al12 phase was evaluated. The results of the conducted tests manifested that the material's resistance to corrosion greatly improved with an increase in the volume fraction of Mg17Al12 phase. The effect of heat treatment on the microstructure was analyzed using transmission electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. The SEM photographs evinced that the amount of β-Mg17Al12 phase decreased significantly, with the distribution occurring at the grain boundaries and with increasing the time of annealing, resulting in a highly saturated α-grain. The XRD validated the all material peaks of phases that are present. The corrosion test behavior of AZ91 alloy in the simulated body fluid (SBF), lactic, and Ringer solutions was investigated through electrochemical measurements, the result was elucidated as measured along the Tafel slope, and the corrosion current density of all heat treated samples was lower than that of the as-cast sample. The measurement of hardness (HV) demonstrated that the hardness decreased to (64.5 HV0.5) during the heat treatment. The result antibacterial efficiency was revealed that AZ91 at 30 hr was best then as cast against the bacteria E.coli.

Aluminium based metal matrix composite (Al-MMC’s) are much popular in the field like automobile and aerospace industries, because of its ease of fabrication process and excellent mechanical properties. In this study, Al-Zn-Mg alloy composite reinforced with 3, 6 and 9 v % of zircon sand was synthesised by stir casting technique. The microstructure of the composites revealed uniform distribution of reinforced particles. Hardness, tensile strength and wear resistance of Al-Zn-Mg alloy/zircon sand composite were found to increase with increase in v % percentage of zircon sand. Scanning Electron Microscope analysis of wear tested sample surface of composites revealed no evidence of plastic deformation of matrix phase. Particle pulls out and abrasive wear was the common feature observed from all the composites.

The contemporary work manifests that friction stir welding (FSW) is a viable avenue for joining AA1100 aluminium (Al) to C12200 copper (Cu) plates. In this present study, the response of distinctive welding parameters (viz. tool geometries, tool rotational speed, tool travel speed, and tool plunging depth) on weld quality has been investigated. The present work focused on both microstructural investigation and mechanical properties examination. It has been observed that the process parameters have significant effects on weld quality. The design of the experiments has been executed considering four welding input parameters in two variables and selected L-16 orthogonal array to limit the experimental replications. It has been observed that good quality of welds produced by keeping the tool pin offset around 4mm towards the aluminium side and 2mm towards the copper side. And it has also been noticed that right-hand threaded tool pins are giving good weld quality compared to left-handed thread. The joint efficiencies for the welds E2, E14 which were welded by RHT tools were 75.3% and 74.61% and the Strength (UTS) of the welds for the same tools exhibit’s greater than the LHT tools i.e., 98 and 95Mpa. Moderate hardness values are observed for the same welds E1 and E14 with the parameters 1100rpm, 98welding speed, and 1.6mm tool plunge depth. . It also noticed that the weld quality can be significantly enhanced by using proper tool plunge and tool pin geometries compared to the other process parameters.

We investigated the austenite stability and mechanical properties in FeMnNiC alloy fabricated by spark plasma sintering. The addition of Mn, Ni, and C, which are known austenite stabilizing elements, increases its stability to a stable phase existing above 910°C in pure iron; as a result, austenitic microstructure can be observed at room temperature, depending on the amounts of Mn, Ni, and C added. Depending on austenite stability and the volume fraction of austenite at a given temperature, strain-induced martensite transformation during plastic deformation may occur. Both stability and the volume fraction of austenite can be controlled by several factors, including chemical composition, grain size, dislocation density, and so on. The present study investigated the effect of carbon addition on austenite stability in FeMnNi alloys containing different Mn and Ni contents. Microstructural features and mechanical properties were analyzed with regard to austenite stability.

Nowadays the automotive industry mostly prefers innovative solid-state welding technologies that would enable to welding of lightweight and high-performance materials. In this work, 3105-H18 Aluminium alloy (Al) and pure Copper (Cu) specimens with 0.5 mm thickness have been ultrasonically welded in a dissimilar (Al-Cu) manner. Optimization of process parameters of ultra-sonic welding has been carried out through full factorial method, three levels of variables considered for this experimental studies namely, weld pressure, amplitude, and time, also each variable interaction with welding strength has been studied. Additionally, micro-hardness and microstructure investigation in welded joints has been studied. The result shows that the weld strength greatly influenced weld amplitude at a medium and higher level of weld pressure. The interface micro-hardness of the welded joint has lower compared to the base metal.
