This paper focuses on the situation of older people in the information society. In the theoretical part of article phenomena of aging population and information society were described. This paper includes results of research conducted in qualitative strategy. The method of collecting data was biographical method. The method for data processing was  qualitative content analysis. In the research 2 older, educationally active people took part. Results of research shows how older people understand the information society and what risk and opportunities they notice in this new reality. Narratives of the respondents indicated that education is of crucial importance for participation in the information society. Older people who take part in lifelong learning cope better with the new reality than people who do not learn. Based on the research results we can point out areas of education which should be development. Moreover, it is visible that educational activity of older people is very important  in adaptation to the information society. Narratives of seniors indicate reasons for the lack of educational activity of other seniors. According to this, it can be specified what action should be undertaken to prevent the exclusion of older people in this new reali

The author looks at the home telecare (sometimes wrongly identified as telemedicine), i.e. remote care of elderly and physically less able people, which provides the support and reassurance needed by them to continue living in their own homes. The paper presents the experience of implementation of such type of care in the communities of the Pomorskie voivodship in Poland. The author discusses the idea of home telecare systems created by communities, as well as conditions that need to be met in order to ensure their effectiveness and usefulness.

The article analyzes selected women rights in comparison to the past, contemporary social problems of Japanese society and stereotypical social roles of women. Taking into consideration the future of Japan, the most important problem of Japanese society is that Japan suffers from declining fertility-rate and rapidly aging population. In the next 50 years there will probably be only 84 million Japanese people (currently slightly above 127 million). The working age population (15–64) will fall by nearly half from today’s level of 80 million to 42 million. Along with the change of the customary perception of female traditional social roles, the professional activity of Japanese women seems to be the only solution. What is more, new laws giving the same rights to Japanese woman as Japanese men have, should be implemented. This article examines women’s basic human rights in contemporary Japan, including historical background, Japanese Prime Minister Sh. Abe’s policy toward women and attempts to find improvements in the women’s lives connected with attempts to change the laws and traditions of this patriarchal society. The assumption is made that though Japanese women can exercise their rights thanks to the newest Constitution, their lives are often subdued to old patriarchal traditions and perceptions of their roles as well as regulations established after World War II.

Preparing social workers to work with the elderly is important in the context of an aging society. Literature analysis shows that students rarely choose to study in the field of social work specialty care for the elderly and disabled. This is due not only to the stereotypes attributed to the elderly, but also to the poorly prepared training programs for social workers. This article focuses in particular on the introduction of content into education programs for social workers, which are important for assessing the quality of life of older people.

Starzenie się społeczeństwa staje się coraz większym problemem nie tylko w Polsce, ale w całej Unii Europejskiej. Coraz więcej programów unijnych skierowanych jest na aktywizację zawodową osób starszych. Programy te mają na celu nie tylko zachęcenie do dłuższej pracy zawodowej, ale także ochronę osób starszych przed samotnością i odizolowaniem od społeczeństwa. W artykule posłużono się testem niezależności chi-kwadrat. Z jego pomocą zbadano uwarunkowania długości aktywności zawodowej osób w wieku powyżej 55 roku życia oraz ich gotowości do dzielenia się wiedzą i doświadczeniem zawodowym z osobami młodymi. Materiał badawczy stanowiły wyniki badania przeprowadzonego wśród słuchaczy Uniwersytetu Trzeciego Wieku w województwie Warmińsko-Mazurskim, w maju 2011 roku.
Aging of society is becoming bigger problem not only in Poland, but also in other countries of European Union. More and more EU programmes are aimed at activating senior citizens. These programmes take up actions not only to encourage elderly people to work, but also to prevent them from loneliness and social isolation. The paper presents chi-square test using. It represent conditions for the length of professional activity of people aged over 55 years and their readiness to share the knowledge and professional experience with young people are also presented. The research material consisted of the result of survey conducted among the students of the Third Age University in Warmińsko-Mazurskie voivodship.

Thailand will be entering full-scale aging society in 2021, when 20 % of population will be over sixty years old. This will cause significant societal changes, and it is very important that the country is prepared to deal with problems that may arise from aging society. Unfortunately substantial number of senior citizens are financially unprepared for retirement due to low financial literacy. An effective social welfare system is needed, which will require a large amount of financial support. An interesting approach to delivering social welfare is co-production which is a practice that involves public services and communities in the mutual deliveries of welfares. Time banking is an engagement practice which each member agrees to give and take credits for service. Time credits can be earned by providing services to those in need. Such system is a kind of co-production which can help build community relationship and complement social welfare system. Time banking can be applied to all generations, and it is especially suitable for aging society. This paper explores the interests in joining time banking among people living in Bangkok and vicinity. It investigates the respondents’ lifestyles, interests in joining time bank, and possible matching of interests. The results reveal existing gaps and may be used in further study for establishing time banking system.

Artykuł dotyczy ważnej kwestii relacji państwa i rodziny w kontekście starzeją-cego się społeczeństwa. Autor analizuje te kwestie przez pryzmat konstytucyjnych obowiązków państwa względem rodziny oraz poszczególnych regulacji administracyjnoprawnych. Analizuje także kwestię wpływu zasady pomocniczości na te relacje stwierdzając, że stanowi ona z jednej strony barierę do zbytniego wkraczania w działalność rodziny względem jej członków, z drugiej strony nakazuje poszukiwać i stosować nowoczesne formy pomocy dla rodzin nieradzących sobie z wyzwaniami starzejącego się społeczeństwa.
The article deals with the important issue of relations between the state and family in the context of an ageing society. The author analyses these issues through the prism of constitutional obligations of the state towards the family and individual administrative and legal regulations. The author analyses also the impact of the principle of subsidiarity on these relations, showing that this principle is, on the one hand, a barrier against entering the family life, and, on the other hand, an imperative to seek and apply modern forms of assistance for families who are unable to cope with the challenges of an ageing society.

The paper aims to describe how aging society has influenced social policy in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Singapore. It analyses a change in demographic structure of Asian societies as well it presents the history of  the development of social policy in East Asia. The last section of the paper shows how much the change in demographic structure has been influencing the conservative welfare state characteristic of the  East Asian countries.
Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie, w jaki sposób działania nakierowane na rozwiązywanie problemu starzejącego się społeczeństwa wpływają na politykę społeczną Japonii, Korei Południowej, Tajwanu oraz Singapuru. W tekście opisany jest proces starzenia się azjatyckich społeczeństw oraz historia rozwoju tamtejszej polityki społecznej od końca XIX wieku. W końcowej części artykułu mowa o tym, w jakim stopniu państwa Azji Wschodniej odeszły, na skutek procesu starzenia się społeczeństw, od realizacji charakterystycznego dla tego regionu konserwatywnego modelu polityki społecznej.

Celem artykułu jest określenie skali zaawansowania procesu starzenia się ludności miast województwa wielkopolskiego. Wykorzystano do tego podział zaproponowany przez Prochownikową, w którym wyodrębniono siedem stopni starości. Zakres przestrzenny obejmował 108 miast województwa wielkopolskiego. W celu zaobserwowania zmian w czasie badania dotyczyły lat 1995, 2000, 2005, 2010, 2015 oraz 2018. Dynamiczne ujęcie pozwoliło zobrazować skalę i ewaluację problemu starości demograficznej Wielkopolskich miast. Na podstawie wyodrębnionych typów stwierdzono, że do 2010 r. w miastach obserwowano początkowy stan starości. Do 2018 r. odsetek osób starszych przekroczył we wszystkich ośrodkach miejskich 15% (zaawansowany stan starości), a w przypadku Kalisza i Konina 25%, czyli skalę anormalnie wysokiego poziomu starości mieszkańców.
ision proposed by Prochownikowa, in which the author distinguished seven degrees of old age, was used for this purpose. The classification made it possible to indicate the degree of advancement of population ageing in the studied cities. The spatial scope covered 108 cities in Wielkopolskie Voivodship. In order to observe the changes in time, the researchcovered 1995, 2000, 2005, 2010, 2015 and 2018. The dynamic approach made it possible to illustrate the scale and evaluation of the problem of demographic ageing of cities in Wielkopolska. On the basis of the selected types, it was found that by 2010 the initial state of old age was observed in cities. By 2018, the percentage of elderly people in all urban centres exceeded 15% (advanced old age), and in the case of Kalisz and Konin – 25%, i.e. the scale of an abnormally high level of the residents’ old age.

W artykule poruszono istotne zagadnienie starzejącego się społeczeństwa i jego wpływu na konieczność zmian w zakresie polityki społecznej i zdrowotnej. Tłem do prowadzonych rozważań, stały się Stany Zjednoczone, które poprzez rządowy program Medicare znacząco wspierają finansowanie opieki osób po 65 roku życia. Niestety rząd polski ciągłe jeszcze w małym stopniu, zwraca uwagę na konieczność systemowego podejścia do zjawiska starzejącego się społeczeństwa. Istotna staje się aktywizacja tych osób, zapewnienie specjalistów oraz uwzględnienie procesu w finansach publicznych.
The article addresses the important issue of an aging society and its impact on the need for changes in social and health policy. The United States has become the backdrop to ongoing care, which through the Medicare government program strongly supports the financing of the care of people over 65 years of age. Unfortunately, the Polish government is still a little behind, pointing out the need for a systematic approach to the phenomenon of an aging society. It is important to integrate these people, to provide specialists and to take account of the process in public finances.

The issue of discrimination against older people on the Polish labor market is a relatively new phenomenon and therefore not fully identified. The need for a closer analysis of this issue acquires particular importance, because demographic projections clearly indicate the progressive aging of the population. In this situation, professional activation and an increase in the employment rate of older people has become one of the priorities of the labor market. The aim of considerations undertaken in the article is evaluation of knowledge of the elderly on discrimination due to age in the labor market and identification of the study population’s experience in this field. To achieve the objective of the study, the research sample examined were people aged 50–65.
Kwestia dyskryminacji osób starszych na polskim rynku pracy jest zjawiskiem stosunkowo nowym i w związku z tym nie do końca rozpoznanym. Potrzeba bliższej analizy tego zagadnienia nabiera szczególnego znaczenia, gdyż prognozy demograficzne jednoznacznie wskazują na postępujący proces starzenia się społeczeństwa. W takiej sytuacji aktywizacja zawodowa i wzrost wskaźnika zatrudnienia osób starszych stały się jednym z priorytetów polityki rynku pracy. Celem rozważań podjętych w artykule jest diagnoza stanu wiedzy osób starszych na temat dyskryminacji ze względu na wiek na rynku pracy oraz identyfikacja doświadczeń badanej populacji w tym zakresie. Na potrzeby realizacji celu badań próbę badawczą stanowiły osoby w wieku 50–65 lat.

Celem artykułu jest ukazanie, że starzenie się społeczeństwa polskiego stanowi proces coraz bardziej intensywny, a grupa ludzi starszych – charakteryzująca się silną feminizacją, singularyzacją oraz narastającą subpopulacją osób najstarszych – wymaga większego wsparcia w ramach pomocy społecznej, m.in. ze względu na wzrost odsetka osób korzystających ze świadczeń z powodu niepełnosprawności i długotrwałej choroby. Prezentowane analizy powstały na bazie monografii i artykułów naukowych, dokumentów Ministerstwa Rodziny i Polityki Społecznej oraz raportów i sprawozdań Głównego Urzędu Statystycznego zawierających dane liczbowe o pomocy społecznej oraz obrazujących krajowe przemiany demograficzne. Ustalenia badawcze prowadzą do wniosku, że na realizację i formy udzielanego wsparcia wpływają propagowane w polityce społecznej paradygmaty wielosektorowości i deinstytucjonalizacji.
The article argues that the aging of the Polish society is intense, and the elderly population, characterized by feminization and singularization, as well as an increasing subpopulation of the oldest people, needs adequate social assistance. This is evidenced by the growing percentage of people receiving benefits due to disability and long-term illness. The article is based on the analysis of the content of monographs and scientific articles, programs of the Ministry of Family and Social Policy, reports and communiques prepared by the Central Statistical Office as well as by the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy presenting demographic changes and figures on social assistance. The research supports the claim that the implementation and forms of support depend on a multi-sectoral approach and a deinstitutionalization, promoted in state social policy.

Selected problems of educational gerontology (geragogy) were discussed in the article as pedagogical subdiscipline. Gerontological education was analysed and four scopes of learning old age were distinguished.

In Poland situation is special, because over the 20 years can be observed very unfavorable changes in population, which in long term perspective can lead to reducing the defense potential. The purpose of the article is to analyze demographic changes in Poland between 2001-2020 years in terms of their importance for national security. Used time period was selected due to changes that began in the 21st century. In the research process the following methods and techniques were used: analysis and criticism of literature and other sources, statistical analysis. Layout of the article shows the course of the research process. At the beginning demography and national security definitions aspects were analyzed. Next, observed demographic changes between 2001 and 2020 were described. Later, impact of identified changes at national security were analyzed. The article ends with a summary and indication of the key conclusions.
