Opis:: A multi-state approach to reliability analysis of systems composed of ageing components is introduced and basic reliability characteristics for such systems are defined. Further, a multi-state consecutive “ k out of n : F” system composed of ageing components is defined and the recurrent formulae for its reliability function are proposed. Moreover, the application of the proposed reliability characteristics and formulae to reliability evaluation of the steel cover composed of ageing sheets is illustrated.

The multi-state system risk function and the moment of exceeding by the system the critical safety state are introduced. The exemplary safety structures of the multistate systems with ageing components are defined and their safety functions are determined. As a particular case, the safety functions of the considered multistate systems composed of components having exponential safety functions are determined. Applications of the proposed multistate system safety models to the evaluation and prediction of the safty characteristics of the exemplary series, parallel, “m out of n”, consecutive “m out of n: F”, series-parallel, parallel-series and “m out of l”-series systems are presented as well.

Opis:: The combination of the results on the reliability of complex multi-state systems related to their operation processes and the results concerning the limit reliability functions of the multistate systems is proposed, to obtain the results on the asymptotic approach to the evaluation of the large complex multi-state systems reliability at the variable operation conditions. The asymptotic approach to the large complex system reliability evaluation and the large complex system limit reliability function are defined. Limit reliability functions of selected large complex systems composed of components having Weibull reliability functions are fixed. The way of using this results is illustrated by their application to the evaluation of reliability characteristics of the large complex port grain transportation subsystem composed of three large multistate non-homogeneous series systems and changing its reliability structure and its components reliability parameters at variable operation conditions.

Opis:: The aim of this article is to discuss the economic consequences brought about by the ageing of the Polish society. The article emphasises the negative effects of ageing which translates into growing public expenditure. The population ageing is exemplified by the dynamic age-related changes of the social structure, and in particular by the growing numbers of the retirement age cohort. The present situation affects the stability of the public finances as it necessitates an increase in the public expenditure on social security and health care. The article also explains the positive aspects of population ageing for the Polish economy, which acts as an impulse for the growth of the new segments of goods and services market linked to the growing consumption by the elderly population. New challenges and opportunities are created by the so-called “silver economy”.

Opis:: The road safety depends on many factors, including the efficiency of the technical system and the disposal of the driver of the vehicle. As wear of most of the vehicle assemblies threatened only with a breakdown, excessive wear of the braking system components may pose a risk of a traffic accident. The article presents a study on the quality of the brake fluid conductivity as a function of temperature and water content conducted for a selected group of vehicles. This group of vehicles was characterized by different production date and had a different of vehicle mileage. We presented the methodology of statistical analysis of the quality of brake fluid tests in selected 38 passenger vehicles in operation.

Opis:: Teoria niezawodnosci opisuje losowe czasy działania urzadzen podatnychna awarie. Na potrzeby tego typu badan opracowano specyficzne branzowepojecia, m.in. resztowy czas zycia, intensywnosc awarii, czy sredni resztowy czaszycia. Ich definicje zostały podane w Rozdziale 2. Znalazły sie w nim takze podstawowe definicje i fakty dotyczace systemów monotonicznych. Systemy monotoniczne tworza bardzo prosty i wygodny model, opisujacy działanie urzadzen składajacych sie z odpowiednio ułozonych wzgledem siebie czesci. Jest to dynamicznie rozwijajaca sie teoria, znajdujaca zastosowania w wielu dziedzinach nauki. Wiecej na ten temat mozna dowiedziec sie z ksiazek [2] i [13].Rozmaite porzadki stochastyczne, czyli porzadki na zbiorach rozkładów prawdopodobienstwa, maja zastosowanie w wielu dziedzinach rachunku prawdopodobienstwa i statystyki matematycznej. Wiele o porzadkach mozna nauczyć się z książki [14]. W Rozdziale 3 niniejszego artykułu zostały zdefiniowane i porównane ze soba tylko te porzadki, które najbardziej przydaja sie w pracy z klasami rozkładów czasu zycia. Nie powinno dziwic, ze takie kryterium wyboru spełniaja przede wszystkim porzadki, które prostota definicji i wszechstronnym zastosowaniem zasłuzyły sobie na miano klasycznych. Relacje miedzy wprowadzonymi porzadkami zostały podsumowane na Rysunku 1.W Rozdziale 4 opisane zostały wybrane klasy rozkładów czasu zycia – zarównote znane od kilkudziesieciu lat, jak i niektóre sposród wprowadzonych stosunkowoniedawno. Nacisk został połozony na dwa zagadnienia: relacje miedzy poszczególnymi klasami oraz domknietosci poszczególnych klas wzgledem najczesciej uzywanych operacji niezawodnosciowych: splotów, mieszanek i tworzenia systemów monotonicznych. Zostały tez wyróznione klasy domkniete ze wzgledu na maksima i minima. Wyniki zostały podsumowane na Rysunku 2 i w Tabeli 2.Wszystkim zainteresowanym zastosowaniem przedstawionych pojec na pewnoprzypadnie do gustu przystepnie i rzetelnie napisana ksiazka [10].
This article covers knowledge of recently used stochastic orders, ageing classes, and relations between them. Definitions and relations between particular stochastic orders are presented there. The paper also contains definitions (especially using stochastic orders), relations and closure properties of ageing classes. Closure properties are investigated there under five useful reliability operations: convolutions, mixtures, formation of monotonic systems, maxima and minima.

Opis:: Modelling and prediction of the operation and reliability of technical multistate ageing systems related to their operation processes called complex systems are briefly presented and applied to prediction of the operation processes and reliability characteristics of an exemplary complex non-homogeneous system composed of a series-parallel and a series-“m out of l” subsystems linked in series, changing its reliability structure and its components reliability parameters at variable operation conditions. Further, the linear programming is proposed to the operation and reliability optimization of complex technical systems operating at variable operation conditions. The method consists in determining the optimal values of limit transient probabilities at the system operation states that maximize the system lifetimes in the reliability state subsets. The proposed method is practically applied to the operation and reliability optimization of the considered exemplary complex system.

Opis:: The aim of this study is to evaluate and compare the financial and managerial efficiency of healthcare inpatient systems in one country. The research question is: What factors give rise to efficiency variations within the regional healthcare system (hospitals)? A two-step approach proposed by Simar and Wilson has been applied. The first step applies the Data Envelopment Analysis to estimate the unit (i.e., a Polish region in our research) efficiency scores, which is followed by truncated regression with double bootstrapping to examine the impact of uncontrolled variables on efficiency scores. The efficiency scores obtained in 16 regions from the output-oriented model with non-increasing returns to scale indicate a full effectiveness of five regions. The DEA scores of the other regions exceed the value of 0.8 and do not differ significantly. The bootstrap-corrected DEA scores do not considerably change the efficiency assessment. The direction of the impact of the ‘percentage of people above 65 years of age’ variable and the ‘growth rate of total liabilities on efficiency’ variable is opposite to that observed for the ‘average salary’ variable. The results obtained suggest that the regional healthcare system efficiency can be affected by the ageing population, pay pressure, and liabilities.

As a particular case, the reliability function of a multistate series system composed of dependent components having exponential reliability functions is determined.
