Opis:
The paper discusses issues of the validity of aesthetic judgements in the concept of George Santayana, the author of The Sense of Beauty and Reason in Art. Although Santayana places aesthetic experience as well as experience as such at the center of his analyses, and explicitly opposes the view that aesthetic judgements are supra-individual, I endeavor to demonstrate that his concept is not necessarily contrary to the achievements of 18th-century aesthetics proclaiming the validity of judgements of taste (Shaftesbury, D. Hume, E. Burke or I. Kant). It is true that Santayana’s multifaceted understanding of beauty reveals the limitations of Kant’s aesthetics, but nevertheless, it does not contradict its achievements. The differentiation he made between the beauty of matter, form, and expression suggests a dual meaning of the validity of aesthetic judgements, on the one hand pointing to their universality while on the other referring to the ideals of reason whose sensual representation is available in works of art.

The aim of this paper is to propose an interpretation of aesthetic emotions in which they are treated as various affective reactions to a work of art. I present arguments that there are three different types of such aesthetic emotional responses to art, i.e., embodied emotions, epistemic emotions and contextual-associative emotions. I then argue that aesthetic emotions understood in this way are dynamic wholes that need to be explained by capturing and describing their internal temporal dynamics as well as by analyzing the relationships with the other components of aesthetic experience.

Owe fundamentalne zmiany wymagały nowego opisu, który by je objaśniał i racjonalizował.
In an earlier study I suggested that the study of aesthetics, rather than being derived from first principles, would benefit, in particular, from knowledge of contemporary developments in the arts. Over the last two centuries, social, technological, and cultural changes have had a transformative effect on the arts and on aesthetic experience. Such fundamental changes called for a new account that would explain them and rationalize their occurrence. I proposed integrating aesthetic experience into a perceptual field that combined the creative, appreciative, objective (i.e. focused), and performative functions in what I called aesthetic engagement. Over the past half century, trends in the arts and their experience have moved more emphatically away from discrete objects and disinterested contemplation, fulfilling the transition to an aesthetic of active engagement of artist, appreciator, object and performer in an experiential aesthetic field

Opis:
The effectiveness of the aesthetic development of high school students in the conditions of a children’s music school directly depends on the application of a certain range of pedagogical principles in the educational process. It was found that pedagogical principles are important guidelines that reflect the general patterns of the process of education and upbringing, determine the requirements for their content, organization and educational methods. They represent a generalized system of requirements that covers all aspects of this process and reflects its results. The article examines the leading principles that are the basis of the process of aesthetic development of high school students in the conditions of a children’s music school: the principle of problematic reflects the consequences of logical and cognitive contradictions as the basis of an educational problem and the driving force of learning, determines the interaction between learning and teaching, the creation of problem situations, the setting and solving the problems; the principle of trust in the subject of education is based on the principles of «humane pedagogy», which ensures the organization of the educational process on the basis of a personal approach to the student, with the approval of him as an active, conscious, equal participant in the educational process, in which he develops on a humane basis personality; when organizing the principle of independent action, it is taken into account that the independent activity of students consists not only in the ability to organize their own mental activity (in which they receive new knowledge), but also in the ability to organize their own behavior, which is connected with the effective organization of their own mental activity; the principle of creativity involves the creation of optimal conditions for realizing the personal potential of schoolchildren; the principle of holistic perception of a musical work helps students understand the essence of each work, find the basic principles of its construction in the musical fabric, and perceive the content of the musical text as a highly organized whole; the principle of dialogue takes into account the following types of dialogic interactions: «author – performer», «teacher (performer) – student (performer)», «listener – performer». It was found that the pedagogical conditions for the aesthetic development of high school students in the conditions of a children’s music school are the subject-developmental environment, which we consider as a dialectical unity of spatial-subject and social components, closely related and mutually conditioned among themselves, where each subject of the educational process carries out its activity, which contributes to cultural identification, the development of aesthetic consciousness and aesthetic sensitivity, and the development of aesthetic activity. The introduction of person-oriented technology into the educational and educational process of a children’s music school is a process of psychological and pedagogical assistance to the child in the formation of his subjectivity, cultural identification, aesthetic consciousness, development of aesthetic sensitivity, development of aesthetic activity.

Opis:
Arnold Berleant rejects the traditional aesthetics of Kantian detached contemplation and selfl essness. Instead of separation of art from everyday life, he introduces the concept of aesthetic fi eld. It assumes a coexistence of several factors: appreciative, focused, creative, and performative. Berleant resign from frag„ mentation of the world of art into spectator, artist, and artwork, and proposes to merge it all together in the aesthetic experience based on active participation and personal involvement. This article presents some selected issues of Berleant’s aesthetics. His theses are confronted with Richard Shusterman’s somaesthetics (pragmatism) and phenomenological attitude of Maurice Merleau-Ponty. Berleant’s ideas are illustrated with some examples of contemporary art. I try to explain the issue of participation in a work of art, the role of the body in aesthetic experience and the crucial concept of aesthetic embodiment. I also seek to explore some of the relationships between art and games.

This article proposes to focus on the hybrid work of art from the perspective of aesthetic experience. The category of aesthetic experience is helpful in creating the poetics which focuses on the role of the recipient. From the perspective of this article, it is important to analyze how the recipient constructs the meaning of the hybrid work of art (if this is possible), and to look at the process of its interpretation. Although the reception of each hybrid work of art should be considered as unique (as has been postulated by Rüdiger Bubner), the category of aesthetic experience turns out to be helpful and can be regarded as a kind of poetics of the hybrid work of art. The article distinguishes four stages of the aesthetic experience: sensory perception of the hybrid work of art, an emotional response, an attempt at interpretation, and the final completion.

An important aspect of screen design is aesthetic evaluation of screen layouts. While it is conceivable to define a set of variables that characterize the key attributes of many alphanumeric display formats, such a task seems difficult for graphic displays because of their much greater complexity. This article proposes a theoretical approach to capture the essence of artists' insights with seven aesthetic measures for graphic displays. The formalized measures include symmetry, sequence, cohesion, regularity, homogeneity, rhythm, and order and complexity. The paper concludes with some thoughts on the direction which future research should take.

After Rachel E. Burke briefly introduces the essays presented with a focus on our contemporary relationship to modern subjectivity, Mieke Bal will make the case for the sense of presentness on an affective and sensuous level in Munch’s paintings and Flaubert’s writing by selecting a few topics and cases from the book Emma and Edvard Looking Sideways: Loneliness and the Cinematic, published by the Munch Museum in conjunction with the exhibition Emma & Edvard. It is this foregrounded presentness that not only produces the ongoing thematic relevance of these works, but more importantly, the sense-based conceptualism that declares art and life tightly bound together. If neither artist eliminated figuration in favour of abstraction, they had a good reason for that. Art is not a representation of life, but belongs to it, illuminates it and helps us cope with it by sharpening our senses. As an example, a few paintings will clarify what I mean by the noun-qualifier “cinematic” and how that aesthetic explains the production of loneliness.

The aim was to study the effect of a formative program about nutrition as well as weight management and its risks in elite gymnasts. The sample was 37 under-18 Spanish athletes from rhythmic and aesthetic gymnastics (national level). The sample was divided into a control group (n=21) and an intervention group (n=16). A quasi-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test was used. The dependent variable was the knowledge of nutrition, weight management, and its risks. The independent variable was the educational program. The program had three 30-minute sessions which combined talks, videos, and tasks to complete. Descriptive and inferential analyses were done. The educational program was ineffective with regard to increasing the gymnasts’ knowledge about nutrition, weight management, and its risks. The gymnasts’ knowledge of nutrition and weight management was high before beginning the intervention. Gymnasts and the coach expressed the need for individualized training adapted to each gymnast’s needs and for incorporating a follow-up that provides feedback that is applicable in the gymnast’s daily life.

Gestalt psychologists promulgated the principles of visual organisation in the early twentieth century. These principles have been discussed and re-emphasised, and their importance and relevance to user interface design is understood. However, a limited number of systems represent and make adequate use of this knowledge in the form of a design tool that supports certain aspects of the user interface design process. The graphic design rules that these systems use are extremely rudimentary and often vastly oversimplified. Most of them have no concept of design basics such as visual balance or rhythm. In this paper, we attempt to synthesize the guidelines and empirical data related to the formatting of screen layouts into a well-defined model. Fourteen aesthetic characteristics have been selected for that purpose. The results of our exercise suggest that these characteristics are important to prospective viewers.

Free Aesthetic Play is one of the crucial terms in Friedrich Schiller's On the Aesthetic Education of Man in a series of Letters, the concept of which he has taken from the Critique of the Power of Judgment by Immanuel Kant. The fundamental difference between Kant's and Schiller's conception of Play does not concern its statement of meaning but rather its purpose and dignity. Free play of sensuality and spirit or intellect and imagination, which is entail by the experience of Beauty, Kant recognizes only as the symbol of morality, seeing that the state of the harmony between opposite sides of human reason, as its effect, is only apparent and therefore has no impact on reality. Schiller, as a poet, had a greater inclination to appearance, art and beauty and this is one of the grounds why the state of harmonious play of cognitive powers of reason is for him the most significant and deeply (if not only) human moment of one's experience. Kant wanted the man to fulfill his specifically human vocation by dint of conduct in accordance with the moral law, which will lead him to moral autonomy. Whereas Schiller believes that the only possibility of salvation from disability, which is for him tantamount to being the subject to any compulsion, gives Art, which prerogatives he conveys to Kantian philosophy of morality. In his vision Art has enormous power: under its impact, in aesthetic play, one has the only possibility to approach freedom for a precious while, the only opportunity to become a real man.

The content of aesthetic education of preschoolers, which means the formation of children’s aesthetic attitude to reality and aesthetic activity, as well as mastering of the aesthetic culture fundamentals, the development of aesthetic perception, aesthetic senses, ideas and judgments, aesthetic taste and so forth are analysed. Well-timed communication with works of various types of art, introduction of the child into the world of beauty and harmony is an important task of aesthetic education. Beauty is inseparable from kindness, it ennobles life, inspires to good deeds. An adult helps to find, feel and understand the beauty of poetry, music, and painting. Through art a child can understand more about everything in the surrounding world: nature, objects, work, spiritual heritage. The level of artistic-aesthetic development of a senior preschooler is manifested in a sense of satisfaction from the process and the results of creative artistic-aesthetic activities. This development is established by the art’s influence on the growth of the aesthetic culture level of the child’s personality, level of aesthetic qualities and abilities, aesthetic experience and aesthetic attitude to the surrounding world, the process and the results of child’s creativity.

Opis:
The paper discusses the aesthetic aspects of place-making practices in the urban environment of Western metropoles that are struggling with the progressive undifferentiation of their space and the weakening of communal and personal bonds. The paper starts by describing the general characteristics of an urban environment as distinct from the traditional vision of a city as a well-structured entity, and in relation to formal and informal aesthetics and participatory design ideas. The author then focuses on two contrary but complementary tactics for translating a space into a positively evaluated place: by domesticating it through introducing nature into an urbanscape; and by accentuating its alienness with the example of the urban exploration movement. The growing popularity of the latter is presented in relation to the discourses related to the decline of cities and the romantic endeavours for reaching into the realm of the unknown or the uncanny in order to rediscover and enrich the unique identity of a place. The paper ends with conclusions that present the necessity for the cultivation of a multidimensional aesthetic awareness and an aesthetic engagement as a crucial issue in the complex task of endowing places with a density of meaning.
