Research background: Globalisation and economic integration are the reasons for which the competitiveness of economic entities is analysed more and more often in the context of their relations with the international market. One of the ways to assess the competitiveness of the Polish food sector is an analysis of comparative (relative) advantages in the export of this sector's products. Purpose of the article: The objective of this paper is to assess comparative advantages in Polish export of food products to the European Union against a background of selected groups of non-food products. Methods: The study used the B. Balassa?s revealed comparative advantage (RCA) index. The study is preceded by a brief review of foreign trade results. The source of data was the WITS-Comtrade commercial database. The analysis was carried out at the level of the HS sections (in commodity terms). The research period covered the years 2003-2015. Findings & Value added: In the years 2003-2015, export of food increased nearly six times and its import - more than 4.5 times. The major partners of Poland as regards trade in food were the EU countries. The food sector was one of few sectors of the economy with the positive trade balance. Polish export to the EU was characterised by a diversified level of comparative advantages. From among 20 HS sections, in 2015 Poland had comparative advantages in export to the EU countries for products from 10 sections (2 food and 8 non-food). Those products accounted for 11% and 70% of Polish export to the EU, respectively. The development of Polish foreign trade in food products during the Polish membership in the EU as well as fairly high comparative advantages in the export of these products to the EU indicate the competitiveness and significant importance of the Polish food sector for the national economy.

Research background: The period after Poland's accession to the European Union is a period of systematic development of Polish foreign trade in food products. Positive changes were visible already in the first year, but trade turnover and the balance of food exchange were even more dynamic in the subsequent years of Poland's membership in the EU. Purpose of the article: One way to assess the competitiveness of Polish food sector is the analysis of comparative advantages (relative) in the trade of products of this sector. So the aim of the presented research is to assess the comparative ad-vantages of the Polish food sector (including its most important chapters). Methods: The analysis of comparative advantages was based on relative trade advantage index (RTA) and the Lafay trade balance index (TBI). The analyses cover the years 2004?2017. The data source was the WITS-Comtrade trading database, in which trade flows are expressed in USD. The analysis was carried out at the HS chapter level. Findings & Value added: The analysis of comparative advantages in the Polish trade in food products showed that during the membership in the European Union Poland had relative comparative advantages in the food trade on the world market. In the years 2004?2017 Polish export in agri-food products increased more than 4.5 times and the positive balance of trade in these products increased more than 9.0 times. Products in trade of which Poland had comparative advantages in 2017 accounted for 55.5% of trade of the Polish agri-food sector in the global market, i.e. by 12.8% more than in the year of accession of Poland to the EU. The dynamic development of trade in food products after Poland's accession to the EU, as well as significant comparative advantages in trade in these products, testify to the competitiveness and high importance of the Polish food sector for the national economy.

The paper is an attempt od presenting different form of cooperation of universities and employers leading to increase of employability graduates, including those with disabilities. The problem of contemporary academic education is to assure suitability of education to employment of graduates, to open the educational process to labor market, and to shape such qualifications and skills that are needed by employers. In the content of the paper the advantages and barriers of cooperation with employers were presented. The main advantages are as follows (among others): increasing the recognition of universities among potential employers and candidates, increasing the quality of education and researches, increasing of chances of employment after graduation, building a net of contacts on business environment, increasing the quality of human capital, promoting images of companies as an attractive partner. Moreover, in the content of the paper the factors of obstacles of employability of people with disabilities were pointed out and characterized. The most important factors are combined with problems od administrative, financial, social, organizational, qualifications, information, infrastructural nature.

At present, the flow of various types of information is very important. ERP systems are a special kind of Integrated Information Management Systems (IIMS). Using ERP systems, companies can streamline the management processes which, not so long ago, would be done on paper or via telephone. This article examines the advantages of using ERP systems. Despite some drawbacks, the use of ERP systems brings many benefits, including the reduction of logistics costs, the smooth flow of information, etc. These benefits are noticeable not only for the individual employees but for the whole company. The present paper tends to investigate the merits and demerits of chromite and Styrofoam ceilings in concrete structures. Since in lots of buildings and structures chromite and Styrofoam used in ceilings, there are problems with their implementation cause a bunch of advantages and disadvantages. Generally, precast beams or in short joist with blocks including both chromite and concrete, if properly designed, calculate and implemented have less tremble than the in situ concrete ceilings and composite due to the thickness of the ceiling blocks. But this is a general issue and it varies in different circumstances and conditions. For example, the vibration of the composite ceilings will be much less in the cases of underpinning both of the primary and secondary beams during concreting. The tremble of ceilings with old style blocks I mean Concrete masonry unit (concrete zigzag slab) and Composite steel concrete precast beams is also less than others of this kind Because of the underpinning during execution Polymer Styrofoam is white in color, and moisture, heat and sound insulation which is produced in petrochemical plants. This material is available in very small volumetric volumes (1.04 to 1.09 g / cm3) in different gradation of tiny and big can be found in form of granules, sheets, and blocks of various sizes and thicknesses. Cutting it off with cutting machines or by hot wire is easy to do. In this study, the chromite and Styrofoam ceilings are examined and their advantages and disadvantages of them in concrete structures are investigated.

Theoretical background: The pandemic situation affected the functioning of each organization, including the assessment of quality management systems. The implementation of remote audits, including remote internal audits, has become an urgent necessity.Purpose of the article: The purpose of this article is to present the results of research on potential difficulties in conducting remote internal audit, from the perspective of auditors and auditees. The auxiliary goal is to collect and organize definitions of remote audit and describe its essence in the light of scientific literature and other sources of a formal nature.Research methods: A review and critical analysis of the literature, the method of a diagnostic survey, and then the method of synthesis and logical reasoning were used.Main findings: Several bottlenecks related to certain difficulties can be identified. Both auditors and audited persons should not waste time searching for relevant documents or records. There is a need to check in advance to what extent the applied information technology is efficient, effective and available to all interested parties during the audit. It is necessary to clarify the roles and tasks before and during audits, and to make sure in advance that all resources, both tangible and intangible, are available during the audit.

Aim: The Covid-19 pandemic situation has affected all sectors of our society that have been in direct or indirect contact with humans. The virtual world, which did not concern many people until the onset of the pandemic, began to be a major part of the solutions to everyday situations in life. Modern technologies thus began to play a major role in solving problem situations, but also in the ordinary contact of people with the school, with medical facilities, with work, in communication with other close relatives. Concept: The use of modern technological equipment and their connection to the pandemic situation began to be of interest in the professional and research investigation of scientists working in various areas of life. In addition to the use of modern technological equipment, other more abstract ideas have begun to be explored, reflecting and commenting on, comparing the advantages and disadvantages of using equipment on the basis of age, ability and industry. Scientific studies are thus carried out from the point of view of sociology, gender studies, psychology, psychiatry, medicine, social work, but also other inhumane scientific branches. Method: This study addresses the advantages and disadvantages of using modern technology and points to a number of studies that positively or negatively affect a person's personality through the virtual world. The authors of this study worked with specific texts, using textual analysis, analytical and synthetic methods, and pointed out important studies that draw attention to the connection between the social situation and the use of modern technologies. Results: The study confirms that the pandemic situation requires constant access to virtual reality through modern technological devices that allow all people in society to contact each other, regardless of age, gender, job classification, or position, role. At the same time, it is very important how we will incorporate modern technologies into our lives and what impact modern devices will have on survival and on the real world. Conclusion: The scientific articles and contributions offered in this study point to the use of technological devices, their advantages and disadvantages for the development of human personality. It is understandable that the virtual world can interfere with our personal and family life, while it is necessary to realize its basic functions, which it offers us for our benefit.

Current glocalisation processes require the identification of priority areas for Ukraine’s further integration into the international economy. The right choice of direction, tools and forms of implementation allows the government to determine, justify and implement a competitive strategy for the country. The study aimed to determine the relationship between international economic integration and Ukraine’s global competitive power. Identifying Ukraine’s sectoral comparative advantages in trade with the EU and evaluating the index of the regional orientation of Ukraine for specific groups of goods and services made it possible to define the effects of economic collaboration with the European region. The assessment of the complementarity index of Ukrainian–European trade relations revealed that Ukraine and the European Union are main trading partners. Furthermore, the analysis of the mechanism of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union proved that the agreement actively contributes to the growth of Ukraine’s global competitive power. Comparative analysis in historical retrospect revealed priority areas for improving the integration processes which help to form the main competitive advantages of the country.

In the article, the author shows how the research technology can increase our understanding of what is going on in the translator’s mind. She points out some of the advantages that the eye tracking method has in verifying the previous assumptions related to mental models of translation activity. On the basis of the author’s eye tracking research conducted in the recent years, she demonstrates the most interesting results related to mental processes involved in translation, but also shows the selected methodological pitfalls of eye tracking, and relatedly defines methodological challenges in this range of translation-oriented research for the nearest future.

Social insurance was conceived from a great thought of the social caution, from the thought of protection of an uncertain future. That thought of caution, during the time of development of social insurance, was implemented by the public entities on the one hand and by the civil activity on the other one. However, the process of creation of the social insurance system in Poland did not represent the policy of caution executed by the state. The only sign of caution could be seen with reference to the insurance associations as there the participants decided whether to enter the system or not whereas the state executed the policy of giving privileges to the certain social groups.

The purpose of this study is: (i) to determine the competitiveness of Kazakhstan in contemporary international trade, with particular regard to the mineral resources possessed by the country; (ii) to show the consequences of Kazakhstan’s resources-dependent competitive profile for the economic development of the country; (iii) to look at measures taken by Kazakh authorities to facilitate future development. To this end, the methodology of analysing revealed comparative advantages was applied. The analysis has shown that the competitive profile of Kazakhstan in international trade is low. The country does not possess any comparative advantages in trade in the categories of high-technology and medium-hightechnology goods while its strongest advantages are in exports of mineral resources and their derivatives, which determines the resources-based character of the entire economy and makes its future development heavily dependent on developments in international resources markets.

This paper discusses the issue of the patterns of technological accumulation in selected European Union countries. Using the WIPO Technology Concordance Table and the index of relative comparative advantage (Balassa’s Revealed Comparative Advantage), it seeks to answer the question about the directions and dynamics of technological change in selected EU countries. The main objectives of the research are the identification of relative technological advantages in individual countries and an assessment of the diversification of comparative technological advantages. The principal findings of the analysis are (1) technological advantages (and competences) are relatively stable over time, and (2) technology leaders rarely change.

Research background: The position of a country in the international division of labour is determined by the competitiveness of its trade, the structure of which may both reveal and perpetuate the comparative advantages possessed. This is particularly true for Dutch disease economies such as Russia. Recently, economic literature has seen a growing interest in the topic of Russia?s economic relations with the European Union and China. This article is aimed at being the Author?s contribution to this discussion. Purposes of the article: (1) to discuss the existing trade interdependence between Russia and the EU28, and Russia and China; (2) to try to assess the extent to which the current structure of Russian trade with these two partners corresponds with the competitiveness of the Russian economy. Methods: An in-depth analysis of Russia-EU28 and Russia-China trade interdependencies in 2007-2015 has been conducted, with emphasis on the categories of goods within the spectrum from low- to high-technology, according to the OECD classification. Furthermore, in order to analyse Russia?s competitive profile with regard to the same categories of goods, Balassa?s methodology of revealed comparative advantages has been applied. Findings & Value added: In the recent years, a growing importance of China in Russian trade turnover can be observed, being the effect of dynamic growth of Chinese economy, cooling political relations between Moscow and Brussels and the drop in oil prices in international markets. The existing structure of Russian trade with the EU28 and China seems likely to preserve its traditional competitive advantages in the medium-low-technology goods and oil, which, in turn, will only further exacerbate the negative consequences of the so-called Dutch disease affecting the Russian economy.

The existing literature on the competitiveness of emerging economy firms does not fully distinguish the different types of firm-specific advantages that influence the firm’s internationalization decisions. This paper addresses this by focusing on emerging economy business group firms and offers a novel theoretical framework on their specific advantages, derived from their organizational structure. It applies the concept of recombination capabilities and proposes that the organizational structure and group internal market of business groups are the key to understanding the dynamics of their competitiveness and internationalization. Also, the paper suggests that business group advantages have implications on the affiliate level advantages and the group multinationality over time.
Istniejąca literatura na temat konkurencyjności firm wschodzącej gospodarki nie w pełni rozróżnia rodzaje szczególnych zalet firmy, które wpływają na jej decyzje internacjonalizacyjne. Niniejszy artykuł odnosi się do powyższego poprzez skupienie się na wschodzącej gospodarce grup biznesowych i oferuje nowatorskie ramy teoretyczne odnośnie ich konkretnych zalet, wynikających z ich struktury organizacyjnej. Artykuł podąża za koncepcją możliwości rekombinacji i proponuje, że struktura organizacyjna i rynek wewnętrzny grup biznesowych są kluczem do zrozumienia dynamiki ich konkurencyjności i umiędzynarodowienia. Ponadto artykuł sugeruje, że zalety grupy biznesowej z upływem czasu mają wpływ na zalety poziomu partnerskiego i wielonarodowość grupową.
