Opis:
Dinitrotoluene (DNT) has a lot of applications. It is mainly used in the production of polyurethane forms. Other uses include the explosives industry. It is converted to trinitrotoluene (TNT), or used as an additive in propellants. The main aim of these researches was to obtain DNT in one stage process with solid acid catalyst and nitric acid. The solid catalysts were composed of transition metal oxide (MoO3) and silica gel. One of them was modifed by phosphoric acid (H3PO4/MoO3/SiO2). The addition of phosphoric acid to these catalysts enhances catalytic properties and gives new structures on the surface – mixture of MoO3 and 12-molybdophosphoric acid. The activity of two catalysts in toluene nitration was compared. Higher yields of DNT were obtained in shorter time and with lower excess of HNO3 using modifed catalyst H3PO4/MoO3/SiO2 than using catalyst MoO3/SiO2. The very high yield of DNT (85%) was obtained in the reaction with only tenfold excess of nitric acid with 10 g of H3PO4/MoO3/SiO2. The way of regeneration of the catalyst system H3PO4/MoO3/SiO2 was found and time of storing was examined.

The main factors influencing the selectivity of chlorophenols synthesis were described. The loss of raw materials and the composition of wastes obtained in a conventional technology of 2,4-D production based on 2,4-dichlorophenol (2,4-DCP) of the 89% purity were presented. The influence of some homogenous catalysts on the selectivity of 2,4-dichlorophenol obtained in phenol and chlorine reaction was examined. Using the combined catalyst enables to chlorinate selectively the monochlorophenols to 2,4-DCP without an undesirable increasing of the 2,6-dichlorophenol and 2,4,6-trichlorophenol contents. The catalyst transformations during the reaction of phenol chlorination were investigated and the method of its elimination after the reaction was elaborated.

The catalytic performance of supported heteropolyacids in various liquid-solid and gas-solid heterogeneous reactions may be affected by the choice of support and/or the method of heteropolyacid deposition. Vanadium substituted polyphosphomolybdate with the Keggin structure H₄[PVMo₁₁O₄₀]· 13H₂O (PVMo) was dispersed throughout acid activated bentonite (clay from Hammam Boughrara, Maghnia, Algeria). A series of catalysts were prepared via modified impregnation. Modified preparation method employed ultrasonication as a means of the dispersion homogenization, followed by freeze-drying. The catalysts were characterized by the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller, the Fourier transform infrared, and ³¹P solid-state magic angle spinning-NMR spectroscopy. The catalytic performance of PVMo/Hmont was evaluated in the oxidation of cyclohexene. Intact Keggin anions were preserved on Hmont after deposition aided by ultrasonication. The obtained results showed that a better catalytic activity can be obtained with PVMo/bentonite (98% of conversion and 89% of cyclohexene oxide), by drop addition of H₂O₂, for 3 h.

Opis:
In this work, we have synthesised a new disubstituted tetrahydroquinolines by the Povarov [4+2] cycloaddition reaction between imines derivatives and an electron-rich olefin such as vinyl ethers. These reactions were carried out in the presence of different acid catalysts in its two versions, multi-step reaction starting with imine synthesis and multi-component reaction in which the imine is formed in situ. The reactivity of the cycloaddition reaction is directly attributed to the nature of the reagents, the used synthetic strategy, in which the obtained yield is found in the case of multi-step reactions lower than that in the multi-component reaction one. Additionally, the multi-step reactions are faster kinetically in comparison with that of the multi-component one. The nature of the catalyst directly increases the rate and enhances the yield of the reactions.

Opis:
Saturated polyester resins were prepared by reaction of dimethylterephthalate with alkylene glycols in the presence of layered doublehydroxides (hydrotalcites, HT). The effect of HT composition (cation and aniontypes) on the rate and progress of transesterification was investigated. It was found that zinc-aluminum HT intercalated with anionic form of aminolauric acid[HT(ZnAl)ALA] efficiently catalyzes transesterification process, increasing therate of reaction or lowering its temperature when compared to the reaction with use of conventional organic tin catalyst. The polyester resin obtained in this way is transparent, which along with X-ray diffraction data indicates the delamination of clay layers and formation of nanocomposite. The limitation of using ALA-intercalated HT as an additive for polyesters used in coatings is coloration of the resin with an increase of the reaction temperature above 180°C. Colorless polyester was obtained using more thermally stable hydrotalciteintercalated with ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid, however, at the expense of significantly longer reaction time. Using HT(ZnAl)ALA catalyst a two-step synthesis of carboxyl polyester resin was performed and the obtained product was used as a component of powder coating formulation.
Przeprowadzono syntezę nasyconych żywic poliestrowych w reakcji tereftalanu dimetylowego z glikolami alkilenowymi, w obecności warstwowego podwójnego wodorotlenku typu hydrotalkitu (HT). Analizowano wpływ składu HT na szybkość i wydajność transestryfikacji. Najlepsze wyniki (zwiększenie szybkości reakcji lub obniżenie średniej temperatury procesu w porównaniu z szybkością i temperaturą reakcji prowadzonej w obecności tradycyjnego katalizatora organocynowego) uzyskano z zastosowaniem hydrotalkitu interkalowanego kwasem aminolaurynowym (ALA). W reakcji prowadzonej z udziałem bardziej stabilnego termicznie hydrotalkitu modyfikowanego kwasem etylenodiaminotetraoctowym otrzymano bezbarwny poliester, jednak kosztem znacznego wydłużenia czasu reakcji. Katalizator HT(ZnAl)ALA zastosowano w dwustopniowej syntezie poliestru o łańcuchu zakończonym grupami karboksylowymi, który następnie użyto w charakterze składnika proszkowej kompozycji powłokowej.

Opis:
The study evaluated the curing properties of natural silica sand moulded with 1% by weight Furotec 132 resin binder catalysed by Furocure CH Fast acid and Furocure CH Slow acid. Physical properties of this sand included an AFS number of 47.35, 4.40 % clay, 0 % magnetic components, 0.13 % moisture, and 64.5 % of the size distribution spread over three consecutive sieves (150 – 600 μm). The sand was washed repeatedly to remove all the clay and oven dried. 2 kg washed sand samples were mulled with pre-determined weights of either catalyst to give 30 %, 50 % and 70 % by weight of 20 g Furotec 132 resin which was added last. Furotec 132 resin + Furocure CH Slow acid catalyst system gives longer bench lives and strip times but the maximum compressive strength in excess of 5000 N/cm2 is attained after more than 8.5 hours curing time irrespective of the weight % of catalyst added relative to the resin. On that basis, exceeding 30 weight % Furocure CH Slow acid catalyst when sand moulding with Furotec 132 resin has neither technical nor economic justification. In comparison, the Furotec 132 resin + Furocure CH Fast acid catalyst system was only capable of producing mould specimens with maximum compressive strength above 5000 N/cm2 at 30 weight % catalyst addition rate. At 50 and 70 weight % catalyst addition rates, the mulled sand rapidly turned dark green then bluish with a significant spike in temperature to about 40 oC, far exceeding the optimum curing temperature of Furotec 132. This high temperature accelerates the curing rate but with a very low degree of resin curing which explains the low compressive strength. In fact the sand grains fail to bond and have a dry, crumbly texture implying dehydration. Thus, not more than 30 weight % Furocure CH Fast acid catalyst should be used in sand moulding.
