In this study, we investigated the fatty acid composition and anticancer activity of neutral and polar lipid fractions extracted from Crassostrea gigas oysters cultured in Nha Phu Lagoon, Khanh Hoa Coast, harvested during the five months of January, April, May, September, and November. Analysis revealed that saturated fatty acids (SFAs) were the most abundant fatty acids in the neutral lipid fraction, followed by monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs) and polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs). Conversely, the polar lipid fraction exhibited a different order, with PUFAs being the most abundant, followed by MUFAs and SFAs. Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) were identified as the most prevalent polyunsaturated fatty acids, while oleic acid and palmitic acid were the predominant monounsaturated and saturated fatty acids, respectively. Notably, the combined content of EPA and DHA in the polar lipid fraction consistently exceeded 30% throughout all five months of analysis. Thrombogenicity index (TI) values ranged from 0.13 to 0.29 for the polar lipid fraction and from 0.6 to 1.1 for the neutral lipid fraction. Moreover, the polar lipid fraction exhibited significantly higher n3/n6 ratios compared to the neutral lipid fraction. The polar lipid fraction exhibited stronger inhibitory effects on the growth of the three cancer cell lines (HepG2, MDA-MB-231, and RD) compared to the neutral lipid fraction. The findings of the present study show that lipids extracted from C. gigas oysters cultured in Khanh Hoa Coast have a weak anticancer activity but may still aid in prevention and treatment of certain cancer types.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of selected processing conditions of beetroot spontaneous fermentation, including slice thickness (2, 4, and 6 mm), temperature (15, 20, and 25oC) and fermentation time (1-15 days), on the physicochemical properties of the resulting leaven (total soluble solid content, turbidity, pH, titratable acidity, color parameters, and content of total carbohydrates, total phenolics, total betacyanins and total betaxanthins). All tested conditions had a significant impact on the properties of beet leaven. Among them, fermentation time and temperature were mostly decisive. Slice thickness was important only for short-time fermentation. The preferable pH below 4.1 was achieved between the 4th and 6th day of fermentation, depending on process temperature. Titratable acidity steadily increased and pH decreased throughout the fermentation process, with more pronounced changes observed at the highest temperature. The highest values of total soluble solids (7.25%) and turbidity (1,100 NTU) were noted on the 13th day of fermentation of the thinnest slices at lower temperatures (15oC and 20oC, respectively). The color of the leaven darkened with increasing fermentation time, but the changes in the b* parameter were the most notable. Changes in the content of bioactive compounds were dynamic during beetroot spontaneous fermentation, but higher temperatures promoted increased total phenolic content and total betaxanthin content in the leaven. The optimal fermentation conditions in terms of all tested leaven properties were determined at 6 mm, 20oC and 7 days for slice thickness, temperature and processing time, respectively.

This mini review presents the state of knowledge on the [3+2] cycloaddition reactions involving fatty acids and their esters with triatomic components (TAC). In general, the literature reports are quite sparse and relatively old. The reaction yield was in the range of 12-85%. The best result of 32CA was obtained from the reaction of butylonitrile N-oxide (4) and methyl oleate (2). Other tested TAC as components of title reactions were nitrylimines and ozone.

Introduction and aim. In patients with schizophrenia, omega-3 (n-3) polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) treatment was found to ameliorate the cardiovascular, metabolic, and inflammatory problems caused by antipsychotic medication and even reduce the need for medication by 20%. In this study, we evaluated the potential therapeutic effects of n-3 PUFA supplementation in patients with schizophrenia. Material and methods. The PRISMA guidelines were followed in conducting this systematic review. The Embase, MEDLINE, Web of Science, and Google Scholar databases were searched electronically. The first search yielded 50 papers in total. Subsequently, 43 publications that did not meet our eligibility requirements were removed, and seven articles were selected. Analysis of the literature. The analysis showed that n-3 PUFA supplementation and the placebo group both decreased their psychotic (PANSS and GAF scales) and Calgary Depression Scale symptomatology and boosted their functional ability (GAF) when used as an adjuvant to antipsychotic medication. When administered as a monotherapy with a metabolic antioxidant, n-3 PUFA supplementation proved beneficial for treating schizophrenia. In patients with schizophrenia, n-3 PUFAs have therapeutic benefits as adjuvant treatments to medications, although not for different variables or patient groups. Conclusion. In many studies, patients with chronic schizophrenia who received n-3 PUFA supplementation showed no improvement in their clinical condition.

In the recent years the interest in lead-acid batteries has resurfaced, amidst the rising need for power storage technologies spanning to not only mobile, but as well, stationary applications. While the lithium-ion batteries remain one of the most common power sources in today’s western world, due to many concerns regarding various shortcomings of the said technology alternatives are often discussed. There is push for adapting lead-acid batteries (as part of the advanced lead acid battery initiative) as replacement for the lithium batteries in the non-western nations, as well as, in the USA reflects, therefore, predominantly to their lower price and reliability in hotter climates. Furthermore – due to the rising needs for uninterrupted power delivery systems, new designs of such are being developed and implement in the western world in hope of meeting the demands of the market. As a result new additives to electrode material, as well as, battery designs have been developed and are currently being considered for inclusion in the modern lead-acid battery construction.

A new eco-friendly slurry has been developed for the chemical mechanical polishing process with a solution of malic acid, deionized water, and an oxidizing agent hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). The surface quality of Ti-6Al-4V workpieces with the proposed chemical mechanical polishing slurry with optimal parameters include oxidizers (H2O2), colloidal (SiO2) slurry, and deionized water by weight 8%, 45%, and 47% respectively, the pH concentration is adjusted 4 through the malic acid content present in the slurry. Experimental results obtained with the proposed chemical mechanical polishing method show a more improved surface quality than previous studies when applying for polishing Ti-6Al-4V alloy. The developed chemical mechanical polishing method's polishing results under optimal conditions obtain an ultra-fine surface quality with Ra = 0.696 nm over a measuring area of 53×70 μm2. X-ray photoelectron (XPS) and electrochemical measurements were used to study the chemical reaction mechanisms in the proposed chemical mechanical polishing process. The chemical mechanical polishing processes for the surface of the Ti-6Al-4V alloy workpiece with the H2O2 oxidizing agent showed high suitability with the reactants formed on the surface such as Ti, V, and Al oxide. With the proposed oxidant and the established chemical mechanical polishing slurry, the feasibility and surface quality of the super smooth Ti-6Al-4V workpiece formed after polishing were demonstrated. The established chemical mechanical polishing method shows high applicability in environmental protection and Ti-6Al-4V alloy ultra-precision machining industries.

The young coal mining pits (young pits) found in West Aceh cause many problems. These pits that form ponds have the potential to be utilized for aquaculture activities. However, the main problem faced in the young pits is the high content of heavy metals. This makes the ponds dangerous for fish farming. Hazardous heavy metals in coal mines are Pb and Fe. Humic acid is one of the materials that can be used to minimize heavy metals and increase water pH. The use of humic acid is more efficient because this technology is easy and cheap and the raw materials are abundant. Humic acid acts as a substance of cation exchange ability found in compost. This research has a long-term goal of making humic acid contained in compost as an alternative material that can minimize heavy metals Pb and Fe, so that it can be used for fish farming activities. The specific objective is to determine the best capacity (dose of humic acid) in minimizing heavy metals and increasing the pH of young pond water in former mines and its effect on fish farming. This research method used a completely randomized design consisting of one factor, namely the dose of humic acid (0 g/L, 2.5 g/L, 5 g/L, 7.5 g/L) and three replications. The results showed that humic acid was able to minimize the content of heavy metals Pb and Fe in coal mine water with the best dose of 5 g/L. The percentage reduction produced was more than 90%. The results of fish rearing using ex-mining pond water treated with humic acid showed that the survival rate and growth rate of fish were higher.

The mining industry aims to promote responsible chemical use during mineral processing operations to minimize the chemical contamination. Hydroxamic acids, which can form strong chelates with metals, have been shown to have less health and environmental issues when compared to xanthate collectors. In this work, the performance of benzohydroxamic acid (BHA) as a collector for galena, chalcopyrite, and quartz was evaluated. The minerals were conditioned with different concentrations (1.5, 3, and 4.5 kg/t) of collector at pHs 8, 9, and 10. The result showed that the treatment of the mineral surfaces with BHA enhanced the flotation recoveries of the sulfide minerals. High concentrations of benzohydroxamate anion, the protonic dissociation product of BHA, existed at basic pHs, where a chemical reaction between the anion and a metal cation on the mineral surface resulted in the adsorption of the collector onto the mineral surface. The microflotation results showed that the BHA collector was able to successfully recover galena and chalcopyrite. Their flotation recovery was dependent on the conditioning pH. Galena showed a high flotation recovery (up to 86%) at both pH 9 and 10, whereas chalcopyrite became most hydrophobic at pH values of 8 and 9 (up to 88%). None of the BHA concentrations or conditioning pHs was able to enhance quartz recovery beyond 7%. The research results have implications in the application of BHA for the froth flotation of galena and chalcopyrite.

Opis:
The paper presents an evaluation of the rheological properties of viscosupplements based on hyaluronic acid, commonly used in knee osteoarthritis. On the basis of rheometric measurements, cross-linking power and density of network as well as characteristic linear dimensions of the networks of these viscosupplements were determined. It has been shown that the tested viscosupplements are characterized by a network of loosely entanglement chains that can form a similar or different type of structure.
W pracy przedstawiono ocenę właściwości reologicznych wiskosuplementów opartych na bazie kwasu hialuronowego, a powszechnie stosowanych w chorobie zwyrodnieniowej stawów kolanowych. W oparciu o pomiary reometryczne wyznaczono moc i gęstość usieciowania oraz charakterystyczne wymiary liniowe sieci tych wiskosuplementów. Wykazano, że przebadane wiskosuplementy cechują się siecią luźno splątanych łańcuchów, które mogą tworzyć podobny, bądź zróżnicowany typ struktury.

Opis:
Corneal degeneration changes corneal shape and causing its translucency disappear. The division of corneal degeneration is made according to the type deposited in its layer. Among the factors causing keratopathy, the following can be mentioned: iron, collagen, hemosiderins, and calcium salts, the last ones cause band keratopathy. This feature is characteristic of the deposition of opacities in the superficial layers of the cornea. In the treatment of band keratopathy, ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid chelation and excimer laser phototherapeutic keratectomy are discussed.

Nutritional supplements play a role in promoting human protein synthesis, fitness recovery, and mental health protection. Pollen is considered a natural food with excellent nutritional value. The use of bee-gathered pollen as a nutritional supplement is now widespread around the world, and it is appreciated for its healing qualities. However, depending on the floral species and the region of origin, pollen has a wide range of nutritional value. It was found that clover pollen had the highest protein content (31.4 g/100 g DM), while the lowest content was observed in maize pollen (21.3%). Eucalyptus pollen had the highest lipid amount (9.49 g/100 g DM), while clover pollen had the lowest content (7.46 g/100 g). Phytochemical analysis showed that eucalyptus pollen occupied the highest total antioxidant activity (67.02%), followed by clover (58.25%) then maize (52.18%), whereas clover pollen had the highest phenolic content (1165 mg GAE/100 gm), compared with the other pollen varieties (949.4 to 1073 mg-GAE/100 gm). The contents of branched-chain amino acids were 29, 33.3, and 38.4 mg/g for maize, eucalyptus, and clover respectively, representing 17.87, 18.44, and 16.53% of total amino acids. The contents of total essential amino acids (EAAs) were 61.8, 73.0, and 83.5 mg/g for maize, eucalyptus, and clover pollen, respectively. Only eucalyptus pollen ultimately met the minimum requirements of EAAs for adults. In contrast, the other two types of pollen contained at least 3–4 limiting amounts of the essential amino acids leucine, lysine, phenylalanine, and valine. In conclusion, pollen is a good, affordable source of nutrients that can be utilized as beneficial dietary supplements for human health.

Niniejszy artykuł jest opracowaniem wskazującym na kluczowe źródła folianów, jego biodostępność, rolę w organizmie człowieka, a także skutki niedoboru.
Folic acid plays a key role in the methylation cycle and in DNA biosynthesis. A deficiency of folic acid in the diet can lead to many disorders, such as anemia or reduced biosynthesis of cells in the bone marrow. There is good evidence of folic acid deficiency in a large proportion of the population in developed countries, even where folate supplementation occurs, so it is very important to be aware of the bioavailability and retention of folic acid in food. Despite the fact that folic acid is present in many raw materials, its bioavailability and content in ready-to-eat products depends on many factors and affects the nutritional effect. This article is a study indicating the key sources of folic acid, its bioavailability, role in the human body, and the effects of deficiency.

Dilute sulfuric acid and acidic ionic liquids are pretreatment methods used to selectively hydrolyze hemicellulose from lignocellulosic biomasses. In this work, a comparison between these techniques is carried out by treating sugarcane bagasse both with 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium hydrogen sulfate at different ionic-liquid and water contents and with H 2 SO 4 at the same conditions and equivalent ionic liquid molar contents. Results from the use of ionic liquid showed that it was possible to tune the biomass treatment either to achieve high hemicellulose hydrolysis yields of 72.5 mol% to very low furan and glucose co-production, or to obtain furfural at moderate yields of 18.7 mol% under conditions of low water concentration. In comparison to the use of ionic liquid, sulfuric acid pretreatment increased hemicellulose hydrolysis yields by 17%, but the 8.6 mol% furfural yield was also higher, and these yields were obtained at high water concentration conditions. Besides, no such tuning ability of the biomass treatment conditions can be made.

The paper presents the results from a study on the possibility to use citric acid as an ecological inhibitor of corrosion in aluminum alloy EN AW-2024 in 0.5 М solution of H2SO4. The study has been carried out by using electrochemical techniques, such as open circuit potential and chronoamperometry. The results reveal that the presence of citric acid in the studied acid medium reduces the corrosion degree of the EN AW-2024 aluminum alloy. The inhibition efficiency increases together with increasing the concentration of the citric acid. The study shows that the citric acid can be used as an ecological inhibitor to fight corrosion in a solution of H2SO4.

Hydrometallurgy is considered a promising method to produce solar-grade silicon (SOG-Si) from metallurgical-grade silicon (MG-Si) due to its advantages of low cost, simple operation, and easy control. In this paper, the effects of particle size of MG-Si, type of acid, leaching time, temperature, and liquid-to-solid ratio on the purification efficiency were investigated in an external field environment with the addition of ultrasound. The purification efficiencies of the two acid-leaching methods were compared. It was found that the simultaneous use of HCl + HNO3 was more effective than using only HCl for impurity removal in MG-Si: the extraction efficiencies of impurities Fe and Al were increased by 2.2% and 13.4%, respectively. The impurity contents in MG-Si before and after calcination pretreatment were also compared. This paper is expected to help researchers select the appropriate hydrometallurgical technique to reduce the impurity content in MG-Si.
