In this essay I explore a possibility of experiential synthesis of an abnormal body of a Contergan person with an aesthetic image of the visual body. For a method, the essay uses phenomenology; I therefore lean in on the studies of embodiment conducted by Edmund Husserl and Maurice Merleau-Ponty. In turn, Max Ernst introduces an aesthetic modality of the artistic body. A personal narrative about meeting sur-real bodies serves as a frame for theorizing abnormality. The study reveals how the encounter with the abnormal ways of constitution suspends normality toward producing sur-real effects.

Introduction and objective. Hyperdontia is a dental developmental anomaly in which supernumerary teeth exist. These are extra teeth to the normal set of primary or permanent dentitions. This article reviews the current literature on hyperdontia in the permanent dentition. Materials and method. A thorough literature search was carried out using Scopus, PubMed, and Google Scholar databases. Results were reviewed, prioritized, and findings compiled. The key words of the search strategy were: prevalence, case reports, supernumerary, supplemental, distomolars, forth molars, paramolars, parapremolars, mesiodens, and supernumerary lateral incisors. Only articles in English published in peer-reviewed journals were included. Brief description of the state of knowledge. The prevalence of supernumerary teeth varies between and within different populations. They may cause various aesthetic, occlusal, and functional complications and often require an interdisciplinary intervention. Familiarity with such anomalies is essential for the dental practitioner. Recognition and correct identification of the anomaly is important when communicating with other dental team members, especially in the case of a referral to or from another dental office. Moreover, understanding the anomaly is an important factor in determining the course of treatment, if any. Conclusion. It is hoped that this review will provide dental practitioners with an update on the classification, characteristics, and prevalence figures for each type of supernumerary tooth.

Was Jesus a deviant? The abnormals who are legislators of the world in Florian Znaniecki's conceptionThe aim of this article is to remind us the still current conception of ‘deviants’ by the classical sociologist – Florian Znaniecki. Znaniecki has distinguished three types of people: normal, ‘subnormal’ and ‘overnormal’. Normal people are just ordinary people who live according to social rules and norms. The ‘subnormals’ are, simply speaking, different types of offenders. And the ‘overnormals’ are the people who enrich their socio-cultural system. ‘Deviants’ are extreme and the most interesting type of ‘sub’ - and ‘overnormal’ people. They are the men of genius, such as Socrates, Jesus Christ, Descartes, Napoleon, Lenin and Piłsudski. They are often perceived as anarchists and in fact they transform the social order totally or at least the way of thinking about it. We can take a risk with the idea that the future always depends on ‘deviants’.

Opis:
Introduction: Upper cross syndrome is becoming more prevalent in today’s population. The syndrome is described as a postural disorder presenting with over active pectoralis musculature and upper trapezius musculature. Also there is inhibition of lower and middle trapezius musculature, which results in winging of scapula, elevated and abducted scapula. This scapular dyskinesia, per se, resulted in rounding of shoulders. The syndrome is often associated with bad posture in routine life or occupation of a person. Little is known about the relationship between sport participation and postural body changes of bodybuilding training. Our aim is to investigate whether bodybuilding training in trained-individuals is associated with the postural abnormalities in the upper body. Methods: 60 male, trained bodybuilders (age= 24.62±3.67 years, body weight= 82.40±9 kg, height= 175±0.067 cm, body mass index (BMI( = 26.77±2.37 Kg/m2, body fat percentage = 21.58±3.21) and 30 un-trained (age= 24.67±2.24 years, body weight= 73.33±9.42 kg, height= 175±0.06 cm, body mass index (BMI) = 23.93±3.16 Kg/m2, body fat percentage = 18.17±3.76) volunteered and were thus included in the study. Postural photographs were taken in the sagittal and frontal planes, and were analyzed by using AutoCAD software. The Flexi curve ruler was used for the assessment of thoracic kyphosis and lumbar lordosis. Results: Using an independent sample t-test, significant differences were observed in the values of forward head posture between trained and untrained groups (p=0.001) and Mann-Whitney U test showed there was significant differences between the values of uneven shoulders (p=0.001), rounded shoulder (p=0.009) and kyphosis (p=0.013), but there was no significant difference between lordosis values in two groups. Conclusion: It can be concluded that there is a high incidence of upper body abnormalities among bodybuilders and this should be taken as a minatory situation on behalf of bodybuilding trainers. Therefore, strength coaches should design an appropriate training program to prevent their trainees from such abnormalities.

Mortatity rate for the chicken embryos on day 15 of incubation was 45.0 ± 3.5% after injection of trypsin inbibitor and 44.0 ± 3.5% after adminstration α-chymotrypsin inbibitor. Gross examination of surviving embryos and their dissection revealed pathological changes (abdominal dropsy, umbilical hernia, subcutaneous oedema, hemoperitoneum, hemopericardium), symptoms indicating retardation in growth (lack of down, retarded ossification of long bones, decreased mean body weight) as well as malformations (schistocelia, micrognathia, cyclopia, crossed beak, cranial deformities) after injection of inhibitors from Ascaris. The highest incidence of embryos with pathological changes and malformations was found after administralion of α-chymotrypsin inbibitor. The most commonly occurring abnormality was schistocelia (21.4 ± 3.88%). Growth malformations were not found in the control groups. The trypsin and α-chymotrypsin inhibitors present in Ascaris homogenate have a significant disturbing effect on the development of the chicken embryo.

Mikhail Elizarov (born 1973 in Ukraine) undoubtedly belongs to the most “bizarre” and controversial contemporary Russian writers (more precisely, he is a Russian and Ukrainian writer). Elizarov is also known as a musician and a songwriter. He is the winner of literary award The Russian Booker Prize (in 2008) for his novel The Librarian (this novel was called one of the most controversial prize-winning novels). Elizarov’s literary works “balance” on the verge of postmodernist and realistic practice; the writer is known for scandalous but intellectual high-energy prose (sometimes he is compared to Nikolai Gogol, sometimes – to Vladimir Sorokin). The purpose of this article is to show and discuss distinguishing features of Elizarov’s prose, to identify central motifs and themes in his selected literary works. The story Fingernails is analyzed in this paper. Special attention is paid to Elizarov’s conception of madness and abnormality, and also to his point of view on relationship between “normal” and “abnormal” (strange, different from what is usual or expected).

Opis:
Introduction. Cleft lip with or without cleft palate (CLP) is associated with hypodontia, supernumerary teeth, dysmorphology of the crown or root shape, teeth impaction and malposition. The prevalence of anomalies is higher than in general population. Objective. The aim of the review is description of dental anomalies affecting children with cleft lip or without cleft palate. Abbreviated description of the state of knowledge. The most common anomaly is teeth agenesis with prevalence of 28% – 66% of patients with CLP. Permanent dentition is more often affected (52.7%) than primary (16.2%), the cleft-side lateral incisor is most often missing. Hypodontia increases with severity of the cleft. Supernumeraries were found in 17.7% of the subjects with cleft lip and/or palate for primary maxillary dentition, and in 5.7% for permanent maxillary dentition. Supernumerary teeth are mostly maxillary laterals, both inside and outside the cleft, and have different variations in morphology and size. The anterior maxilla is a main area for supernumeraries occurrence. Lateral incisor in the cleft area is often peg-shaped, its microdontia was revealed in 5.6%; they can also have enamel hypoplasia – 8.9% of cases. Macrodontia was found in 12.5% and taurodontism in 15.2%. Canine impaction prevalence is different in studies from various cleft centres and ranged from 0% – 58%. Rotations of central incisors was found in the area of cleft in 86.7%. Transposition of maxillary canine and first premolars was found in 5.5% of bilateral, 8% of right, and 3.3% of left unilateral clefts in the study. Summary. Multiple teeth anomalies affect the population of children with cleft lip with or without palate. The most common problem is hypodontia. Treatment process of these patients demands experienced specialists in different fields of dentistry and complex, rigorous dental care.

Opis:
Premaxillary tooth count tends to be stable amongst toothed dinosaurs, and most theropods have four teeth in each premaxilla. Only one case of bilaterally asymmetric variation is known in theropod premaxillary dentition, and there is no record of ontogenetic or individual variation in premaxillary tooth count. Based on these observations, a tyrannosaurid left premaxilla with three teeth (TMP 2007.20.124) is an interesting deviation and represents an unusual individual of Daspletosaurus sp. with a developmental abnormality. The lower number of teeth is coupled with relatively larger alveoli, each of which is capable of hosting a larger than normal tooth. This indicates that tooth size and dental count vary inversely, and instances of reduction in tooth count may arise from selection for increased tooth size. On the other hand, the conservative number of premaxillary teeth in most theropods implies strong developmental constraints and a functional trade−off between the dimensions of the premaxillary alveolar margin and the size of the teeth. In light of recent advances in the study of tooth morphogenesis, tooth count is a function of two parameters: dimensions of an odontogenic field for a tooth series, and dimensions of tooth positions. A probable developmental cause for the low tooth count of TMP 2007.20.124 is that the dimensions of the alveoli expanded by approximately a third during tooth morphogenesis. Numerical traits such as tooth count are difficult to treat in a phylogenetic analysis. When formulating a phylogenetic character, a potential alternative to simply counting is to rely on the morphological signature for developmental parameters that control the number of the element in question.

Opis:
The preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) is a method of the artificial technique of reproduction, which allows to evaluate the genetic material of an ovocyte before its conception or an embryo conceived in vitro before its transfer to the uterus. It is applied in order to make sure that a mother’s womb will be introduced only by embryos without defects and chromosome aberrations or only by these embryos that possess determined characteristic or sex. Once recognized improper the embryos are eliminated from the in vitro procedure and destroyed. It is claimed that the application of PGD will significantly improve the effectiveness of artificial reproduction techniques, and eliminate successive prenatal diagnoses or moral dilemmas associated with eventual abortion. In 1989 the application of the preimplantation diagnosis of human reproductive cells began to develop this field of research in terms of its diagnostic capability. In 1990 the first case of a pregnancy after PGD was described where patients of genetic disease coupled with sex chromosome. The appication of PGD, like the application of the extracorporeal conception where PGD is an integral part, is stuck with a risk of coming up some undesired consequences. They may embrace a chance of misdiagnosis or adverse outcome, some embryos may be unsuitable for biosy, or diagnosis may not be possible for all biopsied embryos. At the same time, one must not forget about the risks associated with the procedure of artificial procreation such as the risk of premature birth, low birth weight, perinatal mortality, congenital anomalies and/or developmental delay in children following IVF/ICSI/PGD treatment, uncertainty about long-term adverse effects for children born after assisted reproduction with or without PGD and the importance of follow-up for children born after PGD. Since we can not find any sufficient reason for non-recognizing the personal dignity of a human embryo, it is to be recognized as morally controversial the application of PGD where the production and deliberate destruction of human embryos are presupposed. PGD is a purely eugenic technique which is possessed by the idea of a child on order, and which discriminates on the basis of actual or alleged biological features. PGD is an evident degradation of human dignity.
