Opis:
In this study, the catalytic effect of TiO2-ZnO/GAC coupled with non-thermal plasma was investigated on the byproducts distribution of decomposition of chlorinated VOCs in gas streams. The effect of specific input energy, and initial gas composition was examined in a corona discharge reactor energized by a high frequency pulsed power supply. Detected by-products for catalytic NTP at 750 J L-1 included CO, CO2, Cl2, trichloroacetaldehyde, as well as trichlorobenzaldehyde with chloroform feeding, while they were dominated by CO, CO2, and lower abundance of trichlorobenzaldehyde and Cl2 with chlorobenzene introduction. Some of the by-products such as O2, NO, NO2, and COCl2 &enspdisappeared totally over TiO2-ZnO/GAC. Furthermore, the amount of heavy products such as trichlorobenzaldehyde decreased significantly in favor of small molecules such as CO, CO2, and Cl2 with the hybrid process. The selectivity towards COx soared up to 77% over the catalyst at 750 J L-1 and 100 ppm of chlorobenzene.

Opis:
Single crystalline cesium doped ZnO nanorods with homogeneous size and shape were grown hydrothermally on ITO substrates that are presented in our previous work. According to the previous work, XRD analysis showed that cesium doped ZnO nanorods are wurtzite single crystals and are grown preferentially along the c-axis. Also, the electrical conductivity of doped ZnO showed higher values for the 1% cesium, which confirmed incorporation of the cesium dopant. Cesium doped ZnO nanorods are suitable candidates for applications in solar cells. So, in this research, we employed cesium doped ZnO nanorods with the different dopant concentration in inverted polymer solar cell. By comparing the effect of doped ZnO nanorods with diverse dopant concentration (0, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 and 2%) on the performance of devices, 1.0% cesium doped ZnO was found as the most effective doping level among the selected doping concentrations. Also, using 1.0% cesium doped ZnO nanorods, Jsc of 8.21 mA/cm2, Voc of 0.541V and Fill Factor of 63.01% were achieved, which led to power conversion efficiency of 2.80%.

Experimental investigation was conducted on the thermal performance and pressure drop of a convective cooling loop working with ZnO aqueous nanofluids. The loop was used to cool a flat heater connected to an AC autotransformer. Influence of different operating parameters, such as fluid flow rate and mass concentration of nanofluid on surface temperature of heater, pressure drop, friction factor and overall heat transfer coefficient was investigated and briefly discussed. Results of this study showed that, despite a penalty for pressure drop, ZnO/water nanofluid was a promising coolant for cooling the micro-electronic devices and chipsets. It was also found that there is an optimum for concentration of nanofluid so that the heat transfer coefficient is maximum, which was wt. % = 0.3 for ZnO/water used in this research. In addition, presence of nanoparticles enhanced the friction factor and pressure drop as well; however, it is not very significant in comparison with those of registered for the base fluid.

Opis:
In this research antimicrobial activity of nanoparticles ZnO on perilous bacteria such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa was evaluated. P. aeruginosa is important pathogen that caused burn wound infections as it is multi-drug resistant and has several virulence factors. Fifteen samples of P. aeruginosa were collected from patients who suffering from Burn infections in Al-Hilla teaching hospital burn unit with the age range between (7-80) years old for both genders. After collecting burn samples, the diagnosis and characterization were performed by culturing and biochemical tests. ZnO NPs were synthesized by chemical method, Zinc oxide nanoparticles are well-known to be one of the multifunctional inorganic compounds which are widely used in medical applications. This study aims to prepare ZnO nanoparticles with particle size ranging from 23-29  nm. In the present study, surface modification of ZnO nanoparticles was performed, and influence of modification of the structure and morphological properties was investigated. The resulting nanoparticles were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force (AFM). Zinc oxide nanoparticles with the average diameter of about 29 nm were modified with an oleic acid to exert more compatibility. From the results obtained it is suggested that modified ZnO-nanoparticles could be used effectively in safety environmental and medical applications. Antibacterial activity for nanoparticle ZnO against P. aeruginosa isolates was measured by: Agar Diffusion Technique and Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC)/Minimum bactericidal Concentration (MBC) with microdilution. The best zone of inhibition was (35.5mm) at a concentration of 40 μg/ml of nano-ZnO in one strain of P. aeruginosa while the lowest inhibition zone was (16 mm) at a concentration of 20 μg/ml of nano ZnO in one strain also. In addition, all P. aeruginosa isolates were completely inhibited at the concentration of 3.7 μg/ml of nano-ZnO (MIC) but no significant antibacterial activity was observed at concentrations less than 1.8 μg/ml of nano-ZnO and the (MBC) was same as MIC (3.7 μg/ml) for all P.aeruginosa isolates.

Opis:
ZnO has attracted much attention due to its wide bandgap (3.2 eV) and high exciton binding energy of 60 meV. These properties make ZnO a highly desirable material for high frequency devices that can work in harsh environment. We have grown ZnO thin films at different temperatures ranging from 100°C to 500°C. We have observed that surface roughness is first decreased with the increase in the growth temperature but then by further increasing the growth temperature beyond 300°C, results in increased surface roughness of the grown samples, whereas grain size of the samples increases with the increase in the growth temperature. Crystalline quality of the films is also improved with the increase in the growth temperature but then degrades by further increase beyond 200°C. We achieved the highest Hall mobility for the ZnO sample grown at 200°C. The optimum growth condition of ZnO thin films on sapphire (0001) in our RF/DC magnetron-sputtering unit were achieved for the films grown at 200°C. Subsequently, we performed pre-growth treatment to the sapphire substrate then grew ZnO films at 200°C. Pre-growth treatment involved heating the substrate at 500°C for about half an hour and then etching the sapphire surface with nitrogen plasma. We have observed that pre-growth heating and nitridation of the sapphire substrate results in bigger grain size whereas no improvement was observed in the crystallinity of the film.

Recently it has been found that the heterostructures of n-ZnO/p-Si are promising photovoltaic alternatives to silicon homojunctions. It is well known that the energy band diagram of a heterostructure is crucial for the understanding of its operation. This paper analyzes the ZnO/p-Si heterostructure band by using free AMPS-1D computer program simulations. The obtained numerical results are compared with theoretical calculations based on the depletion region approximation model and the Poisson’s equation for electric potential. The results of the simulation are also compared with the experimental C-V characteristics of the test n-ZnO/p-Si heterostructure. The simulated C-V characteristics is qualitatively consistent with the experimental C-V curve, which confirms the correctness of the determined band diagram of the n-ZnO/p-Si heterostructure.

Nanostructured systems based on ZnO nanoparticles composite systems/polymer fibers have attracted a lot of attention in the last years because of their applications in multiple areas. Nanofibres based on polymers are used in many domains such as nanocatalysis, controlled release of medicines, environmental protection and so on. This work show the synthesis of cellulose acetate butyrate (CAB) nanofiber useful as substrates for growing ZnO nanocrystals and that ZnO is an unorganic metal oxide nanoparticle used to improve the piezoelectric properties of the polymer. The piezoelectric propertiesof ZnO-doped polymeric was investigated with atomic force microscopy and measurements were performed, in contact technique, in piezoelectric response mode (PFM).In order to analyze the structural and textural features, the obtained materials were characterized using advanced physical-chemical techniques such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The XRD patterns show the characteristic reflections of ZnO with a hexagonal type wurtzit structure and the broad peaks of the polymer. The SEM images reveal the presence of ZnO nanoparticles on top of the polymer nanofibres. In most ZnO-based nanocomposites their morphology is uncontrolled (agglomerated granules), but in ase of using cellulose acetobutyrate this becomes controlled by observing through flower-like structures SEM and AFM) The study of the functional properties of ZnO/polymer fiber composite systems showed that they have piezoelectric properties which give them the characteristics of smart material with possible sensor and actuator applications.Recent literature reports that the synthesis and characterization of ZnO-polymer nanocomposites are more flexible materials for various applications.
