Opis:
Irrigation is the artificial application of water to the land or soil. It is used to assist in the growing of agricultural crops, maintenance of landscapes, and re-vegetation of disturbed soils in dry areas and during periods of inadequate rainfall. Paddy production is the main agriculture of this area, has good climate, well irrigation and soil structure for paddy production. Both temperature and rainfall are the main climatic factors that affected the paddy cultivation. The main objective of the study is to find out the agricultural activities especially paddy cultivation. The sampling method has been used to collect the primary data through the questionnaire survey from 100 households and secondary data has been gathered form District Secretariat, Irrigation Report, and published research reports. MS Excel was utilized for the study to examine the changes of paddy production and other agriculture due to the irrigation water. As the result, paddy production was very high in the Maha season but it was low in Yala season because of the less rainfall and irrigation process. In addition, the highland crops were cultivated around 396 hectare in this area. Whatever, when compere with vegetable production, this was very low and the vegetable production was very high. Thus, these area people cultivate different kind of crops for their economy but have the less production. Therefore, the improvement of irrigation and other water body help to make much production can be produced more in highland crops cultivation. Proper management and better agricultural practices cause to the high production in future.

The aim of this study was to estimate the content of trace elements (Zn, Cu, Cr, Cd, Pb) in soils and consumer plants grown under and without the influence of traffic. The species such as lettuce, raspberry, beetroot, apple, carrot, chives and onion were selected for the study. The samples were mineralized and the heavy metal content in plants and soils was determined by means of atomic absorption spectrometry. The content of heavy metals in the soil from municipal allotments was higher than in the soil from the Saniki Colony. For both samples, the permissible soil content was not exceeded. The amount of trace elements in plants varied depending on species, but the place of vegetables and fruits origin was also important. Most of trace elements occurred in larger amounts in the plants from allotments, and in smaller amounts in the plants from Saniki Colony.

Opis:
Solanum macrocarpon L., popularly known as African eggplant is an indigenous vegetable which is highly medicinal and nutritious. This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of different potting media on the growth and development of Solanum macrocarpon. Six different potting media including topsoil (100%), river sand (100%), sawdust (100%), topsoil and river sand (50:50), topsoil and sawdust (50:50), and river sand and sawdust (50:50) were used for growing S. macrocarpon. The experiment was laid out in Complete Randomized Design (CRD) with four replicates. It was found that potting media (p>0.05) significantly affected the leaf length, leaf breadth, leaf number, stem diameter and plant height of plant. Plants grown in topsoil showed the highest performance in the leaf area, plant height, stem diameter and leaf number. These parameters observed in plants grown in topsoil were significantly different (p<0.05) from those grown in other media. The present study revealed that type of media significantly affects the growth parameters and as such selection of the appropriate medium for the cultivation of the species is necessary for optimum growth and development. Further, the growth of S. macrocarpon can be better enhanced using topsoil as the potting media.

Vegetables are a basic element of each diet and their relatively low consumption in Poland is a stimulus to look for new attractive forms of the products. This paper presents an outline of production technologies of dried vegetable snacks and results of a questionnaire on vegetable consumption and social acceptance of new products in the area as described in this paper. The new processing technologies of vegetable snacks are based on a drying method that generates products attractive in terms of physical and chemical properties. A questionnaire survey shows that interest among respondents to buy snacks made of root vegetables is highest with respect to carrot-based products. The respondents highly assessed visual properties of the new product, primarily the colour and shape.

Owoce i warzywa mają znaczącą rolę w diecie człowieka. Agendy dbające o zdrowie rekomendują diety bazujące na spożywaniu owoców i warzyw. WHO zaleca jedzenie pięciu porcji dziennie o wadze całkowitej około 400 g. Więcej owoców i warzyw spożywają kobiety niż mężczyźni, osoby o wyższych dochodach i wyższym poziomie wykształcenia.
Fruits and vegetables play a significant role in the human diet. Health agendas recommend diets based on the consumption of fruit and vegetables. WHO recommends consuming five portions a day for a total weight of about 400 g. Based on the library query and data published by Eurostat, we note that the daily consumption of fruit and vegetables is below the recommended dose. The volume of consumption varies and depends, interalia, on gender, income and level of education, and country of residence. More fruit and vegetables are consumed by women, people with higher incomes and higher levels of education. Intensified information campaigns should be directed primarily to the citizens of Central and Eastern Europe, as the consumption of fruit and vegetables is lower than in the countries of Southern Europe. Convergence of fruit and vegetable consumption can contribute to the achievement of the goals of sustainable development-improving human health and quality of life and the climate.

Opis:
Recent ethnobotanical studies in the Caucasus, mainly in Georgia, reveal the significant ethnobotanical knowledge of local people related to wild edible plants. However, few studies have been conducted in the Lesser Caucasus, west Georgia, and Turkish Caucasus. This study aims to represent and evaluate the cultural importance of wild vegetable plants and their patterns of use along the Georgia–Turkey border. During the transhumance period in the summers of 2017 and 2018, 104 participants (65 in Turkey and 39 in Georgia) were interviewed using a semistructured questionnaire. The Cultural Importance Index and Relative Frequency of Citation were used to compare the relative importance of species in each region. The use of 83 wild plant species from 23 plant families as vegetables was documented, with 45 species recorded in Georgia and 72 species in Turkey. One-third of the recorded wild plant species and 52 use instances out of 122 species-use combinations were shared on both sides of the border. Women and men had mentioned almost the same number of species, and there was a nonsignificant correlation between the plant knowledge and age. Although there were no significant differences in the plant parts used, the way people used plants as vegetables varied significantly across the border. Considering the floral similarity across the border, the number of species used in common and shared vegetable plant knowledge was quite low. There is not a significant difference between the two countries in terms of the most frequently cited and culturally important species (Rumex, Urtica, and Polygonum spp.). However, the recognition of some of the most important shared species (Heracleum, Chaerophyllum, Arctium, and Campanula spp.) diverged significantly in different administrative regions.

The drying behaviour of carrot, parsley, red beetroot and onion slices of 5 and 10 mm thickness was investigated in a convective dryer at a drying temperature of 50, 60 and 70°C under natural convection conditions. The experimental drying data of the vegetables slices obtained were fitted to five empirical thin-layer models: Lewis (Newton), Henderson and Pabis, Page, Modified Page, Wang and Singh. The effects of the vegetable species, air drying temperature, and slice thickness on the model parameters were determined. Four statistical tools, namely, the determination coefficient, root mean square error, reduced chi-square, and t-statistic method were applied to determine the fittings. The Page model with the model parameters determined by a summation equation, a square type dependence for the drying air temperature and a rational one for the slice thickness is recommended as the most suitable model (R2 = 0.9699, RMSE = 0.0587, χ2 = 0.0035, t-stat = 0.6739).

Objective. Determination of the concentration and species composition of filamentous fungi in root vegetables (carrots and red beetroots), and the adjacent rhizosphere soil, collected on organic and conventional farms in Eastern Poland. Materials and method. During the period 2015–2016, a total number of 80 samples of vegetables and 40 samples of soil were examined. From each type of farm, 20 samples of vegetables and 20 samples of the adjacent soil were examined. In addition, the study included 20 samples of vegetables from organic farms and 20 samples of vegetables from conventional farms purchased on the markets in the city of Lublin in Eastern Poland. In order to determine the concentration and species composition of filamentous fungi, both in vegetables and soil, the method of plate dilutions on Malt Agar medium (Difco) with chloramphenicol was used. The study was conducted in two parallel repetitions. Inoculated media were incubated at the temperature of 30° C for 72 hours, then at room temperature for 72 hours. The species composition of fungal flora was determined using macroscopic and microscopic methods, with the help of keys and atlases. Results. It was found that the mean concentration of fungi was higher in vegetables and soil from conventional farms than in those from organic farms. In the case of carrots and soil from conventional farms, this concentration was 4.93 and 5.10 log10 CFU g-1, respectively, whereas from organic farms – respectively, 3.81 and 4.20 log10 CFU g-1. In the case of beetroots and soil from conventional farms, the mean concentrations were also higher compared to organic farms – 5.09 vs. 3.93 and 4.95 vs. 4.23 log10 CFU g-1. In the examined vegetables and rhizosphere soil, 61 species of filamentous fungi were found, of which 12 belonged to the genus Penicillium, 4 to the genus Fusarium, and 2 species each to the genera: Aspergillus, Cladosporium and Trichoderma. As many as 28 (45.9%) fungal species that occurred in vegetables and soil are regarded as pathogenic for humans.

Opis:
Spinosad is an insecticide with a completely unique and novel mode of action. It is used in a great variety of crops: fruit, vegetables, and ornamental plants. Its dissipation was studied in three vegetables: cabbage (the cultivar Stonehead), carrot (cv. Perfekcja) and onion (cv. Wolska). The vegetables were sprayed with a dose of 96 g a.i. ha-1 of spinosad and collected after 1, 3, 5, and 7 days. The residues were analyzed using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with ultraviolet (UV) detection after purification on a column with methanol. Elements were determined with flame atomic absorption spectroscopy (FAAS), and the determinations were made on the 1st and 7th day after spraying. The determined amounts of spinosad were in the range of 0.943-0.072 mg kg-1 for carrot and onion, respectively, on the 7th day. Spinosad decomposed completely in cabbage, and the highest level of the pesticide after 7 days remained in carrot, although the shape of all decomposition curves is quite similar. Most elements in onion were on significantly higher levels after sprays than in the control variant, opposite to cabbage, where higher levels of the analyzed elements were determined in the control. Concentrations of the elements determined in carrot were statistically significant for manganese, iron and magnesium. The spinosad decomposition time and the content of elements depend on the species of vegetables. The amount of spinosad on day 7 found in onion and cabbage was equal to the Maximum Residue Level (MRL) available in the literature.
