Opis:
The Internet has immense mediational potential in ELT in terms of providing learners with comprehensible input, a platform for social interaction, and opportunities to produce linguistic output. This study explores EFL teachers’ perceptions and utilization of the Internet in ELT at Bahir Dar University (BDU) in Ethiopia; it also identifies the challenges and barriers to effective use of the Internet as a mediational tool. Twenty-one randomly selected instructors at BDU responded to a questionnaire. The results show that teachers have favorable perceptions of the mediational role of the Internet; however, they show fairly limited utilization of the Internet for teaching purposes. Therefore, there appears to be a mismatch between BDU instructors’ positive perceptions and current practices. Furthermore, inadequacy of Internet access, students’ lack of Internet skills, lack of skills of using the Internet for ELT purpose, extra work-load, time constraints were the major barriers to effective use of the Internet as a mediational tool. Based on these results, it is suggested that teachers’ awareness be raised on how to leverage the Internet mediational artifacts in this limited technology context.

Opis:
Particulate materials and waste from industrial processes are troublesome in storage, transport and utilization, mainly due to their large volume and dusting. Therefore, originally the main reason for developing the agglomeration processes was to eliminate the afore-mentioned disadvantages. However, the modifications introduced to the merging processes of materials enabled obtaining a new type of products widely used in various applications. For the agglomeration of the inorganic materials, often containing hazardous substances, the disposal and transformation technologies are available for the safe products that can be used, for example, in civil engineering and construction. In turn, the agglomeration of the materials containing organic substances or fine coal, producing alternative fuels for energy recovery. Obviously, the combustion of these fuels results in a subsequent generation of waste in the form of bottom and fly ash, but they can be successfully further agglomerated to produce more valuable products. The numerous examples of the use of various agglomeration techniques to complete utilization of fine grains was shown. An additional effect of the agglomeration processes was also the fulfilment of the economy criteria, which matches with the principles of sustainable development of the environment. Supporting by worldwide literature, the selected agglomeration techniques were discussed, such as: solidification, granulation, extrusion, briquetting, as well as post-agglomeration high-temperature processing.

Covering 133.7 mln ha of area, forests of Indonesia are an important part of world’s forest resources. In terms of size, they are one of the largest rainforest in the world. So far, 5014 tree species has been classified there. The dominant species include Shorea sp., Litsea sp., Dipterocarpus sp., Calophyllum sp., Eugenia spp., Payena sp., Vaticano sp. and Palaquium sp. Forest utilization model is based on the concessions, allowing for the commercial exploitation of forest resources. Since independence in 1945, forest utilization policy has changed many times. Not only administration was changing, but also the level of administrative authority, where the major decisions for forest policy were undertaken. All these changes significantly imprinted on the current situation in Indonesian forestry and lifestyle of people dependent on forests.

Opis:
In mining uncertainties related to equipment and operation are major reasons for loss of production. In order to address this issue, a wide literature review was done in this study. It showed that reliability of equipment, spare part availability, automation of equipment are researched areas focused. However, a methodology which relates operational issues directly to production levels has been not studied with detailed analysis. In order to overcome this issue and propose, a method to achieve production assurance is the objective of this study. A case study with 2.5 years of data from a large open pit mine is carried out. Following the statistical principles, multiple regressions modelling with details analysis, optimization of payload and interpretation of analysis are used. It showed that at system level availability, utilization and maximum capacities are important criteria for finding root cause in loss of production. Model for shovel fleet showed that availability is the most important characteristics hindering it to achieve a higher level of production. It was also seen that 3 to 4 number of shovels are optimal for achieving current level of production. For truck fleet model represented that capacities involved are less important factor as compared to the utilization of the fleet.

Opis:
In the paper we discuss the possibility of using stone dust for utilizing as building material. The tested material was amphibolite, found in the Sudeten Mountains and the Tatra Mountains in Poland. The chemical composition of dust was determined by means of spectrometry methods. Moreover, the basic physical properties of the material were designated. Stone dust was mixed with starch or cement binder. The binder addition was from 5% to 20% by weight. The water content was adjusted to about 25% humidity. The mixture was then compressed in a hydraulic press at 50 MPa. The results of the mechanical toughness of agglomerates were shown. On the basis of the results, acceptable toughness of agglomerates was found, with the addition of cement in mass share 20% and seasoning for 48 hours. However, starch was not suitable as a binder for agglomeration of amphibolite.

Opis:
The paper presents an analysis of the possibilities of using biogas in energy management of the cities and communities, including the purification of biogas excess to balance the unevenness in demand and supply side of biogas market (operating agricultural biogas plant). The case study describes the four technical acceptable scenarios of using agricultural biogas: variant I – combined heat and power production, variant II – supply of the local heat source, variant III – supply of the local heat source and the use of treated biogas (biomethane) in the local urban transport and variant IV – combined heat and power production and injection of conditioned biogas (biomethane) into the gas distribution grid. The identified variants were evaluated using the analytic hierarchy process multicriteria decision aid method in which the main evaluation criteria were technical, economic, social and environmental, as well as risk criterion. The results of the analysis indicate the possibility of rational use of excess biogas production by: treatment and use of liquefied biomethane for energy production or transport, or combined heat and power production, or use of biomethane injected into the distribution gas network, which can be the basis for the implementation of smart city and community strategy.

Opis:
Cellulose is a major component of plant biomass and could be applied in the production of biofuels, especially bioethanol. An alternative approach is production of a clean fuel - hydrogen from cellulosic biomass. In this paper an innovatory model of cellulosic waste degradation has been proposed to verify the possibility of utilization of cellulose derivatives by purple non-sulfur bacteria. The concept is based on a two-step process of wheat straw conversion by bacteria in order to obtain an organic acid mixture. In the next stage such products are consumed by Rhodobacter sphaeroides, the known producer of hydrogen. It has been documented that Cellulomonas uda expresses cellulolytic activity in the presence of wheat straw as an only source of carbon. R. sphaeroides applied in this research can effectively consume organic acids released from straw by C. uda and Lactobacillus rhamnosus and is able to grow in the presence of these substrates. Additionally, an increased nitrogenase activity of R. sphaeroides has been indicated when bacteria were cultivated in the presence of cellulose derivatives which suggests that hydrogen production occurs.

Opis:
Currently significant amounts of wastes, which pose a real threat to the natural environment and human health, are produced worldwide. One way to get rid of waste materials is to dispose them in landfills but some of them no longer perform their function due to overfilling. For this reason, scientists pay more and more attention to the search for  their possible disposal and/or recycling, as it is impossible to prevent its generation completely. Recently, many researchers have taken up the topic of the use of agri-food wastes due to their low cost and widespread availability as a starting material for the production of activated carbons. As a result, it was found out that organic wastes are very successful precursors of organic matter and the obtained activated carbons are characterized by a very well developed porous structure. The paper presents a literature review regarding the possibility of using various waste materials under different impregnation and preparation conditions to obtain activated carbons with a developed surface area and good adsorption properties.
