The actuality of our scientific research is determined by the necessity for the historical analysis of the free children’s upbringing in the spirit of Christianity in the educational and pedagogical concept of N. L. Zinzendorf in the 18th century. The principles of the free upbringing in the pedagogical concept of this pedagogue, namely the principles of the free development of the child’s full potential, combining both demanding as well as respectful attitude towards a child and the formation of the teacher-and-child relationships principle in the process of upbringing. Purpose. The main object of our scientific research is to investigate the Children’s upbringing in the spirit of Christianity in the educational and pedagogical concept of N.-L. Zinzendorf in the 18th century. Methods of investigation. The historic and logic analysis, generalization, systematization and classification of the archives and printed sources. The systematical and logical analysis of the scientific work, scientific literature and archive are used in this study. Results. The new approaches of Christian upbringing used by Zinzendorf in the 18th century gave the opportunity not only to reach children’s hearts, but also to reveal and enlarge the good in their lives. The sensibility and tolerance, which had nothing in common with the strict school upbringing of the early Pietism, were at the core of this new approach.

W artykule podjęto próbę przedstawienie koncepcji wychowania współczesnego niemieckiego filozofa wychowania Wolfganga Brezinki. Wychodząc od ogólnej charakterystyki koncepcji wychowania jako pomocy życiowej, przeanalizowane zostały kolejno podstawy antropologiczne, ontologiczne i aksjologiczno-teleologiczne koncepcji. Analiza propozycji Brezinki pozwoliła odczytać koncepcję jako ofertę wartościowego przygotowania wychowanka do życia w zmieniającej się rzeczywistości społeczno-kulturowej, jako szansę na dobre i odpowiedzialne życie wychowanka, zarówno w wymiarze indywidualnym, jak i społecznym. Nie bez znaczenia jest również przydatność koncepcji Brezinki dla rozwoju teorii wychowania.
The article attempts to present the concept of upbringing of the contemporary German philosopher Wolfgang Brezinka. Starting from the general characteristics of the concept of upbringing as a life help, there have been analysed successively the base of anthropological, ontological, axiological and teleological concept. Analysis of the proposals enabled to read concept of Brezinka as an valuable offer to prepare pupil for life in constatntly changing socio-cultural reality, as an opportunity for good and responsible life of pupil, both in individual and social dimension. It has paid attention to the usefulness of the concept of Brezinka for the development of the theory of education.

Norms and social values find their support in authority. They result from it in a certain way. They exist and are conveyed by its mediation. Equally crucial is the after-effect of the education process - its style, parental attitudes, emotional relationships between adults and children. The above mentioned deliberations depict the complexity of upbringing issues. Is there one proper recipe for upbringing? With certainty not, though one can point out several principles which are helpful in this process. They are as follows: - “never impose your views or convictions by force, - express maximum possible acknowledgement for convictions and views of a child, - never insist on your view (…) make an assumption that “I can make a mistake, but he can be right”, - beam with warmth, love, attentiveness, joy as much as possible - let a child feel distinctly that he is being loved and that everything is for his sake. Actions speak louder than words, - treat your child as gently as the pupil of the eye, - do not treat your remarks for too valuable and your methods for ideal without fault”.

W artykule, na bazie wyników własnych badań o charakterze jakościowym, podjęto zagadnienie przygotowania do dorosłości jako celu wychowania. We wstępie przedstawiono ogólne refleksje na temat wychowania rodzinnego oraz sformułowano cel rozważań. Trzy zasadnicze części tekstu dotyczą kolejno: przygotowania do dorosłości na tle rodzicielskiej świadomości teleologicznej, obrazu dorosłości wpisanego w cele wychowania ukierunkowane na przygotowanie do niej oraz kompetencji człowieka dorosłego znajdujących odzwierciedlenie w celach wychowania ukierunkowanych na przygotowanie do dorosłości. W zakończeniu przedstawione zostały wnioski dotyczące zupełności rodzicielskich obrazów dorosłości oraz treści analizowanych celów, a także roli dzieci w tak ujmowanym wychowaniu.
The paper, based on my own qualitative research, addresses the issue of preparation for adulthood as an objective of upbringing. The text is comprised of the introduction, three main sections, and the conclusion. The introduction presents some general reflections on family upbringing, and also outlines the purpose of the considerations undetaken in the paper. The three main sections in turn deal with: preparation for adulthood against the backdrop of parents’ teleological awareness, the image of adulthood as part of the objectives of upbringing meant to prepare for adulthood, human competencies of an adult, as reflected in the objectives of upbringing meant to prepare for adulthood. The final section presents conclusions concerning the completeness of the parents’ images of adulthood, and the content of analysed objectives, as well as the role of children in the process of preparation (getting ready) for adulthood.

The author of the article struggles with a paradox: the post-modern age which views itself as pluralistic nonetheless appears to yearn for upbringing. At the beginning of XXI century, the dissonance between human development, full participation in a wide range of spiritual culture and a tendency to strictly technical education, oriented mainly on efficiency and profits appears in a full range. In this context it is important to educate young people in the responsible use of the gift of freedom. The author of this article presents freedom as a characteristic sign of youth education in the present century. He also shows the pluralism of values and upbringing aimed towards freedom. The author also underlines the Christian approach to freedom, understood as both a gift and a task received from God. Pedagogy of freedom is not a question of transmitting human knowledge, even of the highest kind; it is rather a question of responsibly communicating with God and people. God Himself used a pedagogy that must continue to be a model for the pedagogy of freedom.

Many simplifications can be seen in the discussions on the relations between Poles and Jews. The circling demons of the past and, what is worse, the present also put the mind to sleep, causing more stereotypes and myths than truth in the public sphere. Most of us easily judge others without verifying opinions and facts. Thus, we ascribe the same characteristics to the entire group, no matter how different individuals are. In this way, we create a simplified picture of reality that can function in our consciousness for a long time. It is a natural process, as every person has a tendency to create stereotypes that often lead to prejudice and discrimination.

A father’s presence is important and necessary, and almost impossible to replace in the upbringing process. The father gives his child such stimuli and patterns in his social and moral development which his mother is not able to offer him. In connection with functioning in various social groups every human being fulfils definite social roles. The roles of parents and children belong to such roles. However, they are not something stable and have undergone many transformations over the centuries. The father’s role is unique. First of all, he is supposed to be a tutor. His task is, similarly to the biological mother who gives birth to her child, to “give birth” to him as a new creature by upbringing. A father’s role is to create an atmosphere of safety in the family, and participate in all aspects of the family life.

Moral standards are arranged in a kind of whole which forms the scale of values. They set in order the environment, provide direction of actions and place a man in the surrounding world, which was also created by him. Selection of moral norms must be carried out according to certain principles which form a logical entirety. Only then, involving in social life becomes a foundation for creation of the unit. The person building the self-image of reality with simultaneous lack of support from their parents, state institutions, public life, spiritual or intellectual authorities, generally is unable to distinguish good things from bad things, the rules that should be followed from the rules that should be avoided. A confused young man is trying to save himself by building a “private ethics” in which his own environment easily helps him, providing a number of models of ethical individualism. However, according to immutable values only education can shape the young characters that will be able to remedy for all the signaled difficulties in distinguishing good from evil, and establishing a solid foundation that will help them build their own future.

Contemporary psychology ascribes a very important role to both upbringing and teaching-learning processes in psychical development. It is indicated that a child’s personality is being shaped as a result of this influence. The most intensive development obviously concerns the youngest children because both psyche and organism of the child are distinguished by large plasticity in the period of early childhood. The elementary regulating mechanisms based on impulses and emotions dependent on functions of the subcortical centres are shaped in this period. The small child’s behaviour is still little organized, changeable and impulsive. The child is mainly guided by emotions. Children acquire their basic orientation to the world in the first school years, at the level of primary teaching, and first of all, in their closest environment. They gain knowledge about reality by means of free observations of concrete objects and phenomena turning gradually tasks carried out in the form of fun into didactic activities, i.e., to planned and regular learning and teaching. The child should be already prepared to live an individual life in a democratic society since early childhood where co-existence is guarded by wise principles of co-operation. Pupils’ preparation to the individual life is also necessary. Formation of proper attitudes, personality, and skills and knowledge is the most important general aim of upbringing accomplished at school. School supports families in these areas and supplement their influences. Up to now a practical example stirring up plenty of controversy in the environment of both parents and teachers has been for instance Personal Health and Social Education. Therefore we say about three phases of the professional attitude of teachers which they are going through while learning to teach. The first phase consists of attitude of acting how to survive a teacher who has just taken a job is mainly concerned with survival. He worries about assessment of his interpersonal relationships, and whether superiors and pupils will grow fond of him. The second phase is his attitude to a didactic situation. In that phase teachers already habitually fulfil certain tasks and carry out definite actions. Teachers’ attention and energy are transferred to the process of teaching itself. Last stage is achievement of professional maturity and an attitude towards pupils. In this phase teachers try to use more methods and strategy so that pupils could understand presented issues. The functions of improvement of professional skills by teachers should be correlated with supporting top-down educational reforms.

The paper focuses on the role of the Institute of National Education set up in 1997 within Radio Maryja, an intellectual formation chosen by right-wing politicians. The Institute is interested in reforming education; it also questions the existing assumptions of education transformations relating to the model of the moral-shaping school or the societal role of pedagogical sciences. It engages in a variety of education forms, including National Education School, the Academy of Ethical Upbringing, the Academy of Social Abilities, the Summer School of Polish Culture, professional development classes as well as symposia and popular scientific lectures. The Institute is present in publishing. Moreover, it is responsible for organizing summer holidays and pilgrimages; it co-operates with the Redemptorists during retreat meetings. Yet another branch of the Institute is Feliks Koneczny Thought Club and the Maksymilian Kolbe School of Journalism. In the light of its prominence, the discussed movement should be able to contribute significantly to the debate on the education transformation.

The author of this paper draws our attention to the process of upbringing as understood by Heliodor Muszyński, a follower of socialist pedagogy. The author enumerates Muszyński’s aims and tasks of upbringing, focusing on the social roles identified by him, which are acquired by children as a result of their interaction with educators. This paper also outlines the issues of moral upbringing and presents the aspects of family upbringing.

It is necessary in the project method to remember that: a team should have a leader to function well setting a final subject should be an effect of negotiations between a team and a leading teacher; assessment criteria should be clearly defined and conveyed to executors yet before you start working; - a schedule allows to keep to deadlines and divide actions among the team members; - it is not necessary to convey ready solutions to children; - you should assess and appreciate children’s work at different stages; - a key to success is creating responsibility in the group; - a teacher’s task is creating work conditions for the children, supporting them, motivating to action, monitoring and making assessment work on different stages; - a presentation should be carried out competently, visually, comprehensibly, interestingly; - a final effect does not have to be convergent with a teacher’s ideas. The settlement of the aim becomes quite an essential aspect of the project. A general aim, called a strategic one, is not a task, but it determines a direction of actions. Operating aims, i.e., planned achievements are formulated on the basis of it. In order to carry out the project correctly it is necessary to monitor its course. The external evaluation will show its reception in perception of others, the internal evaluation will allow to make assessment by the project participants themselves.

Przedmiotem troski wielu pokoleń pedagogów, oprócz metod wprowadzania w życie, jest także poszukiwanie sposobu na przywracanie społeczeństwu tych, którzy normy akceptowane społecznie odrzucili. Najbardziej zajmujące może okazać się resocjalizowanie nieletnich, którzy już na początku swego życia naznaczeni są niedostosowaniem. Pomocna w tym zadaniu okazuje się harcerska metoda wychowawcza. Okazuje się, że realizowana w warunkach zakładu poprawczego pozwala młodym ludziom na zmianę grupy odniesienia, a przez to powrót do społeczeństwa.
Throughout the years, many generations of teachers and educators were concerned about bringing back to the communities these people, who were unaccepted. However, the most engaging thing is socializing adolescents who cannot adapt to social standards from the beginning of their lives. The helpful method in this case is scout upbringing method. It shows that implementing this method in youth custody centers gives young people the opportunity to change the reference group and right after that – back to the community.
