    Teaching culture and literature of the past at the university is not easy, even at language studies departments where students are supposed to be willing to read books and learn about the history and culture of foreign countries. It appears that young people are reluctant to express themselves in academic classes and prefer to wait passively for the teacher to dictate them what is worth noting. In my opinion, this is not what academic lectures should look like. The university should use different means, adapted at best to the contemporary students’ profiles, to help them learn how to think critically and to debate democratically. The great responsibility of the university is to form future citizens. This much depends on the academic teachers who elaborate the lecture programs and ought to shape a creative atmosphere in their classes, a base for the exchange of ideas and opinions, which is essential to prepare students for their adult life.

    Cet article montre que l’éducation est essentielle pour progresser vers l’écologie intégrale et étudie le rôle que la famille, la spiritualité et l’université peuvent jouer à cet égard. La famille a le droit primaire à éduquer et est, en fait, « la première et la plus importante école ». La spiritualité offre les motivations dont nous avons besoin pour « alimenter la passion de la préservation du monde ». L’université doit également jouer un rôle important, en intégrant harmonieusement l’enseignement académique et le service social à la communauté (apprentissage par le service), Au lieu de se limiter à une simple fonction instrumentale et de transmission. Un nouveau paradigme relationnel sera donc possible, qui favorise les relations familiales et une vision holistique de la réalité. Il s’agit d’un besoin urgent que la pandémie de Covid-19 a mis en évidence.
    This article asserts the need for education in order to move towards integral ecology and studies the role that the family, the spirituality and the university can play in this formative task. The family has the primary right to educate and it is indeed the most important school. The spirituality «can motivate us to a more passionate concern for the protection of our world». The university must also play an important role, harmoniously integrating learning and social service, rather than reducing itself to a merely instrumental and transmitting function. Thus, a new relational paradigm will be possible, one that fosters family relationshipsand a holistic vision of reality. This urgent need has also been highlighted by the current Covid-19 pandemic.
    Niniejszy artykuł ukazuje potrzebę edukacji dla rozwoju ekologii integralnej oraz rolę, jaką w tym zadaniu formacyjnym odgrywają: rodzina, duchowość i uniwersytet. W dziele edukacji pierwszeństwo dzierży rodzina – najważniejsza ze szkół. Z kolei duchowość „potrafi motywować naszą gorliwość i troskę o nasz świat”. Także uniwersytet ma tu do odegrania ważną rolę, poprzez harmonijną integrację nauki i służby społecznej, wykraczając ponad funkcję li tylko przedmiotową i przekazicielską. W ten sposób staje się możliwy do osiągnięcia nowy paradygmat relacyjny, sprzyjający zarówno integracji rodzin, jak i całościowej wizji rzeczywistości. Obecna pandemia Covid-19 jeszcze bardziej uwydatnia aktualność podjętych w artykule postulatów.

    This paper aims to contribute to the reflections on the expansion and the role of higher education in Africa. We analysed the evolution of the total number of students in Madagascar since the 1960s, period during which the education institutions obtained university status. Statistics show an important increase of students enrolled in public higher education institutions. Political, demographic, social and economic factors explain this massification. This study examines the effects of this increase of the number of students in the country. It has negative effects on the quality of education. Public universities play a major role in the professional integration of young people. It contributes to the training of human resources that national economy needs. Universities are a development tool through the improvement in the overall education and qualification level of the population.
    L’objet du présent article est de contribuer à la réflexion sur le développement et le rôle de l’enseignement supérieur en Afrique. Nous étudions l’évolution du nombre total d’étudiants dans les universités publiques à Madagascar depuis le début des années 1960, période pendant laquelle des établissements d’enseignement supérieur ont acquis le statut universitaire. Les statistiques révèlent globalement une expansion des effectifs. La massification dans les établissements universitaires s’explique par des facteurs politiques, démographiques, sociologiques et économiques. Cette étude examine également les effets de l’augmentation en nombre des étudiants dans le pays. Elle agit négativement sur la qualité des formations. L’enseignement supérieur public joue un rôle déterminant dans l’insertion professionnelle des jeunes. En effet, il participe à la formation des ressources humaines dont l’économie nationale a besoin. En accroissant le niveau moyen d’éducation et de qualification de la population, les universités peuvent enfin constituer un outil pour favoriser le développement économique et social.
    Niniejsze opracowanie stanowi przyczynek do refleksji nad rozwojem i rolą szkolnictwa wyższego w Afryce. Analizie poddano wzrost całkowitej liczby studentów w uniwersytetach państwowych na Madagaskarze od 1960 r., od kiedy to ośrodki szkolnictwa wyższego uzyskały status uniwersytecki. Statystyki wskazują ogólnie na wzrost liczby personelu. Czynniki polityczne, demograficzne, socjologiczne i gospodarcze przyczyniły się do procesu umasowienia ośrodków uniwersyteckich. Zanalizowano również skutki zwiększenia liczby studentów w kraju, które negatywnie wpłynęły na jakość kształcenia. Publiczne szkolnictwo wyższe odgrywa kluczową rolę w zawodowej integracji młodych ludzi i faktycznie uczestniczy w kształceniu zasobów ludzkich potrzebnych dla narodowej gospodarki. Podnosząc średni poziom wykształcenia i kwalifikacji ludności, uniwersytety mogą stanowić narzędzie służące do rozwoju gospodarczego i społecznego.

    Opis:
    The figure of Claude Backvis (1910–1998) is well known to Polish scholars. His research is still valued today, especially his seminal work on the Baroque period. However, there is an aspect of Claude Backvis’s activity that has been neglected: his work as a popularizer and disseminator of Polish culture to a non-specialized audience. For many years, especially before the Second World War, Backvis regularly published articles on Poland and its literature in various Belgian French-language magazines. He also published a few translations of Polish authors such as Zygmunt Krasiński and Maria Kuncewiczowa. Which strategies of adaptation (or acculturation) did Backvis, a rara avis in a country practically devoid of any tradition in the field of Polish studies, adopt to present Poland, especially its history and its literature, to readers little acquainted with Polish affairs? How did the period (particularly the years before the war) and the places of mediation (generally linked to the spiritual climate of the Université libre de Bruxelles) influence the mediation itself? These are the questions that this article attempts to answer

    Wychodząc w swoich rozważaniach od akcentów historycznych i kontekstu międzynarodowego, autor próbuje uzasadnić potrzebę radykalnych reform szkolnictwa wyższego i organizacji badań naukowych we Francji. Wskazuje przy tym na bariery występujące w codziennej praktyce, na konieczność wzmocnienia powiązań między szkolnictwem wyższym i badaniami naukowymi, na potrzebę rozwoju kontaktów między uniwersytetami i przedsiębiorstwami. Jako profesor i wieloletni prezydent Uniwersytetu Piotra i Marii Curie (Paris VI), wielokrotnie odwołuje się do doświadczeń tej uczelni w racjonalizowaniu finansowania i zarządzania kształceniem studentów oraz badaniami.
    Using historical aspects and the international context as his point of departure, the author attempts to justify the need for radical reforms in higher education and the organisation of research in France. He also identifies day-to-day barriers, pointing to the need to strengthen the links between higher education and research and the need to develop networking between universities and industry. A professor and a long-time president of the Pierre and Marie Curie University, Gilbert Bereziat makes multiple references to the experience of his school in rationalising funding and managing the teaching and research functions.

    Simultaneous interpretation is among the most desired forms of oral translation used during international meetings. The theory and practice of the trade are exposed to constant changes. New theoretical research results are still surfacing along with the revised teaching and practice recommendations. This article addresses the question of simultaneous interpreting instruction based on the models adopted at the Department of Applied Linguistics, Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin.

Появляются новые результаты теоретических исследований и рекомендации как в методологической, так и в практической сфере его осуществления. В данной статье мы затрагиваем вопросы, связанные с преподаванием синхронного перевода исходя из модели, практикуемой в Отделении прикладной лингвистики Университета Марии Кюри-Склодовской в Люблине.

    Opis:
    Our contribution is part of the reflection in translation studies focused on the teaching of translation. Its objective is to take stock of the project Traducteur en herbe carried out by the Institute of Romance Studies at the University of Wrocław since 2014. Aimed at learners of the French language, the initiative focuses on the practice of translation, an activity that is absent from the secondary education curriculum in Poland. The objective of the project is to promote the art of translation among high school students and to arouse their interest in the French language and civilization. From an institutional point of view, the purpose of the event is to familiarize students with the university environment and stimulate their interest in the courses offered at the Institute. The presentation of the project is an opportunity to reflect upon the errors made by novice translators who try their hand at literary translation. It can be useful for teachers of translation, secondary school teachers and all those interested in actions aimed at awakening young people’s interest in the art of translation.

    The historical development and theoretical specificity of pedagogy as it is practiced at the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin is the subject of the article. The author describes the process of historical formation and development of the Institute of Pedagogy of the CUL that has been going on since Poland regained its independence, against the background of social changes. The author synthetically characterizes: the traditions of Polish pedagogy of the period of Partitions (1795-1918), the specific character of pedagogy in the period of the Second Polish Republic (1918-1939) and the achievements of Polish pedagogy after the Second World War. In an analytical way the process of development of pedagogy at the CUL is shown in the perspective of the formation of pedagogy as a science, both in the administrative and theoretical aspects. In the administrative aspect the achievements of the Institute of Pedagogy in the fields of research as well as of didactics have been presented. In the theoretical aspect a list has been compiled of the main research orientations (theoretical models) of modem pedagogy in Poland. Against this background an analysis has been made of the main categories of personalistic pedagogy characteristic of the CUL.
    Przedmiotem artykułu jest rozwój historyczny i specyfika teoretyczna pedagogiki uprawianej w Katolickim Uniwersytecie Lubelskim Jana Pawła II. Autor opisuje proces historycznego formowania się i rozwoju Instytutu Pedagogiki KUL na tle zmian społecznych, jaki dokonał się w okresie od odzyskania przez Polskę niepodległości do chwili obecnej. Autor syntetycznie charakteryzuje: tradycje polskiej pedagogiki okresu rozbiorów, specyfikę pedagogiki okresu II RP oraz dorobek pedagogiki polskiej po II wojnie światowej. W sposób analityczny proces rozwoju pedagogiki w KUL ukazany został w perspektywie formowania się pedagogiki jako nauki, zarówno w aspekcie administracyjnym, jak i teoretycznym. W aspekcie administracyjnym opisano dorobek badawczy i dydaktyczny Instytutu Pedagogiki. W aspekcie teoretycznym zamieszczono zestawienie głównych orientacji (teoretycznych modeli) badawczych współczesnej pedagogiki w Polsce. Na tym tle podjęta została analiza głównych kategorii koncepcji pedagogiki personalistycznej - charakterystycznej dla ośrodka KUL. Słowa kluczowe: Instytut Pedagogiki Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego Jana Pawła II, pedagogika personalistyczna, orientacje badawcze w polskiej pedagogice, uniwersyteckie ośrodki badań pedagogicznych w Polsce, Z.
