W artykule omówiono zalety i zastosowanie rur kwadratowych oraz proces ciągnienia badanych rur. Z kolei przedstawiono wyniki badań własności mechanicznych tych rur. Badano następujące własności mechaniczne materiału rur kwadratowych: umowna granica sprężystości R0,05, umowna granica plastyczności R0,2, wytrzymałość na rozciąganie Rm, naprężenie rozrywające Ru, wydłużenie A10, wydłużenie równomierne Ar, przewężenie Z, a także zapas plastyczności R0,2/Rm oraz twardość Vickersa HV5. Własności mechaniczne określone w statycznej próbie rozciągania badano na próbkach wyciętych w takich miejscach charakterystycznych przekroju rury kwadratowej jak naroża i środki długości płaskich ścianek, natomiast twardość badano na przekrojach poprzecznych rur w analogicznych miejscach charakterystycznych jak wyżej i ponadto w płaskich ściankach w pobliżu naroży, przy czym badania twardości prowadzono w trzech warstwach na grubości ścianki rury: w warstwie przyzewnętrznej, w warstwie środkowej i w warstwie przywewnętrznej. Stwierdzono znaczącą niejednorodność własności w badanych miejscach charakterystycznych rur. Stwierdzono również prawidłowości w rozkładach twardości w miejscach charakterystycznych w badanych warstwach ścianek rur.
The article discusses the advantages and application of square tubes and the process of drawing steel tubes. In addition results of investigation of mechanical properties of these tubes are presented. Following mechanical properties of square tubes were studied: conventional elastic limit R0,05, conventional yield point R0,2, tensile strength Rm, breaking stress Ru, elongation A10, uniform elongation Ar, contraction of area Z, and store of plasticity R0,2/Rm, and Vickers hardness HV5. The mechanical properties specified in the static tensile test was studied on samples cut out in such specific section of the pipe as square corners and measures the length of flat faces, while the hardness was examined on cross sections of tubes in the same places as above and also in the flat walls near the corners, while hardness testing was performed in three layers on the pipe cross wall thickness: the outer layer, in the middle layer and the inner layer. It was also found in the pattern of distributions of hardness in specific locations in the tested tube wall layers.

Tracheostomy tubes are commonly used not only in emergencies involving airflow obstruction in the upper airways, but also during rehabilitation after ENT surgery, particularly in patients following radical laryngectomy due to cancer. Unfortunately, tracheostomy tubes used in the specific mucosal environment of the trachea and oesophagus show a limited lifespan of up to 6 months. This means that inserted tubes must be replaced regularly due to deterioration. Limitations in the function of the tubes over the course of their use are caused by various material factors that depend on the properties of the tubes or on the condition of the environment in the human body. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the surface condition of tracheostomy tubes after 2 days and after 3 months of use.
Rurki tracheostomijne są powszechnie stosowane nie tylko w nagłych przypadkach zablokowania przepływu powietrza przez górny odcinek dróg oddechowych, ale także podczas rehabilitacji po zabiegach laryngologicznych, w szczególności u chorych po radykalnym usunięciu krtani w przebiegu choroby nowotworowej. Specyficzne środowisko śluzówek tchawicy i przełyku wpływa niestety na ograniczenie żywotności rurek tracheostomijnych maksymalnie do 6 miesięcy. Oznacza to, że założone rurki wymagają okresowej wymiany z powodu obniżenia ich jakości. Ograniczenia funkcjonowania rurek w miarę ich użytkowania są spowodowane różnymi czynnikami materiałowymi, zależnymi od właściwości rurek lub zależnymi od stanu środowiska w organizmie człowieka. Przedmiotem badań w prezentowanej pracy jest ocena stanu powierzchni rurek tracheostomijnych po użytkowaniu przez 2 dni i przez 3 miesiące.

Flowmeters with averaging Pitot tubes are becoming more and more common in the industrial practice. It is often the case in long straight sections of channels with large diameters that the conditions regarding the adequately long sections of pipelines before and behind a flowmeter cannot be fulfilled. This is associated with the occurrence of an additional measurement uncertainty with an unknown value. Most of the information regarding this issue can be found for the case of Venturi probes. The amount of data regarding the flow averaging Pitot tubes is also limited. Hence, the decision to undertake the proposed subject. The conducted research made it possible to state recommendations regarding the metrology of testing. The results indicate that it is not only the distance from the flow disturbing element that plays a role but it is also the plane in which the sensor is located that affects the uncertainty of measurements of the flow averaging Pitot tubes.

Following paper is focused on experimental and numerical studies of the behavior and energy absorption for both: quasi-static and dynamic axial crushing of thin-walled cylindrical tubes filled with foam. The experiments were conducted on single walled and double walled tubes. Unfilled profiles were compared with tubes filled with various density polyurethane foam. All experiments were done in order to possibility of the safety of the elements absorbing collision energy which can applied in car body. The dynamic nonlinear simulations were carried out by means of PAM-CRASH™ explicit code, which is dedicated calculation package to modelling of crush. Computational crushing force, plastic hinges locations and specimens post-crushed geometry found tobe convergent with the real experiments results. Conducted experiments allowed to draw conclusion, that crashworthiness ability is directly proportional to foam density. The investigation of the experimental data revealed, that double walled tubes have greater energy absorbing ability. A proposed investigation enable to analyze and chosen of optimal parameters of these elements, which can use in automotive industry as an absorption energy components.

The issues connected with the complex design of various facilities, including up-to-date boiler equipment as well as the ways of organizing the space around them, are the reasons why there is often a lack of room for mounting a flowmeter in accordance with the recommendations of manufacturers. In most cases the problem is associated with ensuring sufficient lengths of straight pipe leading into and out of a flowmeter. When this condition cannot be fulfilled, the uncertainty of measurement increases above the value guaranteed by the manufacturer of the flowmeter. This sort of operation problem has encouraged the authors of this paper to undertake research aimed at the analysis of applicability of averaging Pitot tubes in the areas of flow disturbance.

This paper presents a mathematical model and results of numerical simulations for a fluid flow around a flow averaging tube. The calculations have been performed using the commercially available FLUENT software. The authors have applied the currently known studies of the models of turbulence and their applicability in certain flow conditions and hence selected the RNG k-epsylon turbulence model including appropriate functions to be used for determination of pressures and velocities at the sites of occurrence of considerable gradients. The distributions of pressures and velocities around a sensor are presented along with pressure distributions, instantaneous and averaged in time, on the measuring tube surface. The paper determines the frequencies of measuring tube free vibrations for one sided and two-sided tube fitting for the tube length in the range 100–1500mm. This analysis has been conducted with the aid of solving equations for free undamped vibrations for specific models. The graphical presentation involves an admissible range of tube lengths with one and two-sided fitting for the specified flowing air velocities.

The subject of this work is optimization of outputs of L-band high power microwave tubes. These outputs are constructed as coaxial-to-waveguide transitions with a vacuum barrier in a form of glass or ceramic cup. The goal of optimization is to obtain sufficiently low reflection loss in the predefined frequency band and to avoid so called hot spots caused by excessive dissipation of microwave power in parts of the cup. Electromagnetic simulator has been applied to model the behavior of the optimized transition and to propose its optimum shape. The proposed solutions were verified by Z.E. Lamina SA in prototypes of high power (pulsed 600 kW) amplitrons and are to be used in manufacturing practice.

The desire to increase the comfort of patients and to continue production despite the decreasing amount of available materials on the market has led to the constant search for novel materials that could be used to obtain tracheobronchial tubes. The aim of this study is to determine the mechanical properties of a new thermoplastic elastomer. Two materials - the thermoplastic elastomer and the natural rubber were subjected to three tests: static tensile test, static compression test and static three-point bending test. During the static tensile test, samples of the tested materials were examined, and during the next two examinations, the final products. The materials underwent the processes of sterilization, hydrolytic degradation and degradation by oxidation. The treated samples were also tested in order to compare the obtained results. The mechanical properties of the tested materials improved both after the hydrolytic degradation and oxidative degradation, as well as after the sterilization process. Yet the thermoplastic elastomer revealed a more noticeable increase. The elastomer hardening is a positive phenomenon potentially leading to fewer accidental closures of the tubes cross-section. Both the sterilization process and various degradation methods improved the mechanical properties by strengthening the tested materials. This phenomenon seems to be desirable to avoid the closure of the implemented tube during its application.

In order to explore a more reasonable structure and operating parameter, guide the design and improve the gasification of seawater Open Rack Vaporizer (ORV), Research on the rules of seawater that flows and heat transfer in the ORV tube was studied in this paper. By simplifying the model, heat transfer tube model with spoiler lever was obtained and simulated, the distribution of temperature field, gas ratio, velocity field and press field in rib tube were analyzed, and different inlet velocity of LNG, roughness of the tube wall both effected on the overall gasification, the results shows that the actual gasification efficiency from heat transfer tube is higher than normal, small difference of gas ratio outlet, velocity and temperature are both lower, LNG could be easer gasified at operating temperature between -162°C~+3°C than that between -162°C~+0°C.

W pracy przedstawiono wyniki badań wytrzymałościowych materiału wykorzystywanego do produkcji rurek tracheostomijnych oraz dwóch materiałów, przewidzianych do ich produkcji w nowej technologii wywarzania. Przebadano trzy materiały (polietylen małej gęstości przeznaczonego do wytłaczania - polietylen nr 2 oraz dwóch polietylenów małej gęstości przeznaczonych do przetwarzania za pomocą procesu wtrysku - polietylen nr 1 oraz polietylen nr 3) dla których wyznaczono maksymalną siłę zginającą i ściskającą oraz maksymalne naprężenia. Uzyskane wyniki badań poddano analizie w celu poszukiwania optymalnego materiału wykorzystywanego w procesie produkcyjnym.
The paper presents the results of strength tests of the material used for the production of tracheostomy tubes and two materials intended for their production in the new manufacturing technology. Three materials (low density polyethylene intended for extrusion - polyethylene No. 2 and two low density polyethylenes intended for injection molding - polyethylene No. 1 and polyethylene No. 3) were tested for which the maximum bending and compressive force and maximum stress were determined. The obtained test results were analyzed in order to search for the optimal material used in the production process.

The influence of essential oils (EOs) used at sublethal level, on the presence and intensity of Candida albicans virulence factors was evaluated. Minimal inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of Lemon balm, Citronella, Geranium and Clove oils were established as 0.097% (v/v). Using the agar plates with substrates for proteases, phospholipases and hemolysins it was shown that C. albicans ATCC 10231 and C. albicans ATCC 90028 strains differed in the type and amount of enzymes produced. No significant difference in their total amount could be detected after pretreatment for 24 h with EOs at ½ MIC. However, the short-term (1 h) acting oils at MIC caused a statistically significant reduction in this activity. In the API ZYM test it was demonstrated that both strains exhibited activity of the same 9 out of 19 enzyme types and that EOs caused a significant decrease in the release of some of them. In the presence of subMIC of EOs, or when the fungus had previously been exposed to the MIC of oil, germ tubes formation was significantly and irreversibly reduced. Such C. albicans spotted on the Spider agar containing EOs at subMICs were unable to penetrate the agar. A significant decrease in the C. albicans adhesion to the fibroblast monolayer with respect to controls was also demonstrated when yeasts had been exposed to EOs at MIC (1 h) in liquid medium. Thus, it has been shown that tested oils, used even at subMIC, exhibit significant activity reducing the presence/quantity of important C. albicans virulence factors.

According to the postulate concerning a local change of the “actual active radius” with a bending angle in the bent zone, a generalized model of strain during bending of ametal tube has been derived. The considered tubes should be subjected to bending in tube bending machines by the method of wrapping on a rotating template and with the use of a lubricated steel mandrel. The model is represented by three components of strain in the analytical form, including displacement of the neutral axis. Generalization of the model of metal tubes in the existing papers consists in including the displacement of the neutral axis and the possibility of determination of strains at each point along the thickness of the wall of the bent tube in the bending zone. The derived scheme of strain satisfies initial and boundary kinematic conditions of the bending process, conditions of continuity and inseparability of strains. The obtained analytical expressions can be classified as acceptable from the kinematic point of view.

The purpose of the paper was to evaluate the resistance to high temperature corrosion of laser welded joints of finned tubes made of austenitic steel (304,304H) and nickel alloys (Inconel 600, Inconel 625). The scope of the paper covered the performance of corrosion resistance tests in the atmosphere of simulated exhaust gases of the following chemical composition: 0.2% HCl, 0.08% SO2, 9.0% O2 and N2 in the temperature of 800°C for 1000 hours. One found out that both tubes made of austenitic steel and those made of nickel alloy displayed good resistance to corrosion and could be applied in the energy industry.
