    The objective of the article is to analyze the attitudes of foreign language teachers towards students’ mother tongues or heritage languages, as migrant students to the city of Gdańsk, Poland, use them as a compensation strategy in formal language learning. On the basis of a survey methodology, the author will try to explore language teacher beliefs regarding the perception of the coexistence and the use of other languages (including Polish) in mainstream FL education and attempt to compile good practices in this regard, reported by the teachers surveyed. Referring to his earlier research (Lankiewicz 2013, 2015, 2019, 2020, 2021), the author hypothesizes that language teachers manifesting higher levels of critical language awareness will be more prone to draw upon students’ linguistic repertoires in the education processes, while others will suppress any form of intercomprehension, code-switching or language meshing.

    Opis:
    Capitalizing on the ecological approach to language learning (van Lier, 2004; Kramsch, 2008) and the conceptualization of language as a local practice (Pennycook, 2010) as well as languaging (Jørgensen, 2008), accounting for the continuity of linguistic phenomena rather than a discriminatory perception of linguistic properties, we intend to delve into the problem of linguistic hybridity as a sign of L2 learner identity. A direct inspiration for the study, as exemplified in the title, is the concept of metrolingualism (Otsuji, Pennycook, 2010), which offers a potential to be very informative for the study of identity issues inscribed in language. Metrolingualism connotes linguistic hybridity, which refers to something unnatural, untypical, not conforming to the norm. Positing the continuity of language use and symbolic competence (Kramsch, Whiteside, 2008), we assume after van Lier (2004) that language is not a fixed code but socially constructed entity which mingles with personal experiences shaped by social context and activates power-related issues in language use. The aim of the paper is to delve into discursive practices of students learning/using more than one L2 in the educational setting. An examination of their narratives and their languaging about language (Swain, 2006) discloses how they position themselves as L2 language users.

    Against Homogeneity. Transcultural and Trans-Lingual Strategies in Cultural ProductionThe key idea of the present volume of Colloquia Humanistica is the struggle against homogeneity. All the papers deal with the problem of homogenous narratives and homogenous practices, which most often falsify the complex reality of the human world. No matter if we look for examples in literature, cinema, or if we take a closer look at cultural institutions; our authors question the apparent uniformity which seems to lie behind the familiar categories we use to describe our everyday experience. The languages we speak, books we read, exhibitions we visit – they are supposed to use clearly defined categories with sharp boundaries and unified content. This unwritten agreement makes our life easier and helps us move through the labyrinth of social relations and cultural patterns. But what if we suddenly find out that one of those well-known categories does not suit the reality? Przeciwko jednorodności. Transkulturowe i transjęzykowe strategie w produkcji kulturowejGłównym wątkiem nowego numeru "Colloquia Humanistica" jest walka przeciw jednorodności. Wszystkie artykuły zmagają się z problemem jednorodnych narracji i jednorodnych praktyk, które najczęściej fałszują złożoną rzeczywistość ludzkiego świata. Przykłady możemy czerpać z literatury czy kina, możemy też przyjrzeć się bliżej instytucjom kulturalnym; autorzy i autorki w niniejszym numerze kwestionują rzekomą oczywistość, do której, jak się wydaje, odsyłają codziennie używane kategorie, służące nam do opisu codziennego doświadczenia. Nieważne, czy mówimy o językach, którymi się posługujemy, o książkach, które czytamy, czy o wystawach, jakie zwiedzamy; wszędzie tam zakładamy posługiwanie się jasno zdefiniowanymi kategoriami o ostrych granicach i jednorodnej treści. Ta niepisana umowa ułatwia nam życie i pomaga poruszać się w labiryncie relacji społecznych. A jednak co się dzieje, jeśli nagle odkrywamy, że jedna z tych dobrze znanych kategorii nie pasuje do rzeczywistości?

    Migracja jest jednym z bardziej doniosłych doświadczeń egzystencjalnych współczesnego człowieka. Jest to zmiana, która pociąga za sobą poważne konsekwencje dla jednostki, niezależnie od tego, czy towarzyszą jej motywacje o charakterze przymusu (politycznego bądź ekonomicznego), czy też mamy do czynienia z migracją dobrowolną. W obu tych przypadkach proces adaptacji w nowym miejscu może okazać się zadaniem niełatwym i obciążającym dla jednostki. Co więcej, może on rzutować również na kolejne pokolenia. Dzieci migrantów niejednokrotnie zmagają się bowiem z tymi samymi problemami, którym czoła musieli stawić ich rodzice bądź dziadkowie. O tym, że funkcjonowanie między dwoma kulturami, językami, tradycjami może okazać się literacko płodne, świadczy twórczość pisarzy o korzeniach węgierskich, którzy mieszkają i tworzą poza krajem swojego pochodzenia. Niniejszy artykuł analizuje twórczość trzech takich autorek: Terézii Mory i Ilmy Rakusy, które piszą po niemiecku, oraz anglofońskiej autorki Charlotte Mendelson. Każda z nich tematyzuje zagadnienie migracji w inny sposób i posługuje się innymi rozwiązaniami na poziomie struktury i narracji utworów.
    Migration is one of the most momentous existential experiences of modern man. It is a change that has serious consequences for the individual, regardless of whether it is accompanied by coercive (political or economic) motivations or it is voluntary. In both of these cases, the process of adaptation in a new place may turn out to be a difficult and burdensome task for the individual. What is more, it can also affect the next generations. Children of migrants often struggle with the same problems that their parents or grandparents had to face. The fact that the functioning between two cultures, languages and traditions can turn out to be literally prolific is evidenced by the work of writers of Hungarian origin who live and work outside their country of origin. This article examines the work of three such authors: Terézia Mora and Ilma Rakusa, who write in German, and the Anglophone author Charlotte Mendelson. Each of them thematizes the issue of migration in a different way and uses different solutions at the level of the structure and the narrative of their works.

    The author of the article proposes an analysis of the phenomenon of “polonisation” of the French language carried out by a group of Polish francophone novelists, who, during the Romantic Era, wrote historical novels devoted to the past of Poland. He proposes to see this phenomenon as an example of translingualism. After having defined this term, the author highlights the links between narration and translation, analyses the motivation of translingualism, examines its conditioning by the narrative context as well as the forms it takes in the texts, the problems it poses and the solutions proposed by novelists to these difficulties of linguistic transfer.
