One of the main problems within cities is the lack of convenient public transport connections, which offer passengers a comprehensive and efficient means of transportation from one place to another. Urban transport integration is intended to improve the functioning of public transport and, thus, is an activity that significantly contributes to the quality of transport services within cities. Transport integration may include solutions provided by urban public transport, as well as solutions based on the integration of public transport with individual transport modes. This article presents a comprehensive approach to the integration of urban transport. Exemplary tools integrating urban transport, along with examples of modelling in software for traffic microsimulation, are shown.

This article is the continuation of the first part entitled Review of algorithms. In the article presented were the author's simulator of a network and the tests performed with its help. In the first part the concept and functionality of the created simulator were described. The concept emerged on the basis of an analysis of existing solutions, as well as needs the created software has to fulfill. The second part of the article depicts the testing environment, i.e. network topology and simulation parameters used during the research. What is more, in the aforementioned part, provided was the comparison of the research run with the use of the author's software and its interpretation.

It is essential to evaluate safety of marine traffic for the improvement of efficiency and safety of marine traffic. Spread of AIS makes observation of actual marine traffic more easily and faster than before. Besides, description of collision avoidance behaviours of ships are indispensable to simulate a realistic marine traffic. It is important to develop and implement an algorithm of collision avoidance corresponding to a target traffic or target area into the marine traffic simulation because actual actions for collision avoidance depend on circumstances where ships are sailing. The authors developed an automated marine traffic simulation system with AIS data. And in this paper, we proposed a series of systematic procedures for marine traffic simulation including analysing for collision avoidance behaviours using AIS data.

Ship collision is a hazardous event within the chain of maritime transport. Collisions may result in human losses, adverse economic consequences, and environmental damages causing significant impact to local societies and related activities. A major factor in any risk analysis concerning ship collisions is the probability of these collisions occurring. The purpose of this study is to assess the probability of ship-to-ship collision in the Aegean Sea. The basic concept of the developed model is to (statistically) simulate traffic flow in the area of interest and determine the collision candidates; this will be implemented in a pilot study in a segment of the Aegean Sea. The input of this effort is based on values that are extracted from statistical analysis of the international fleet in combination with the study of maps depicting traffic flow in the studied area. Hence, it does not employ detailed AIS data. The obtained results are presented and their agreement with actual incidents is discussed in depth. The paper concludes with interesting insights of the aforementioned tasks.

Railway traffic simulation, taking into account operation and maintenance conditions, is not a new issue in the literature. External effects in such networks (e.g. level crossings) were not taken into account in studies. The used models do not take into account sufficiently the process of degradation and recovery of the network. From the technical side, currently carried out simulations are made using similar approaches and techniques as in the initial stage of research. Well-established work in this area could be the basis for evaluation of new solutions. However, the progress in simulation tools during the last years, especially in performance and programming architecture, attempts to create a modern simulation tool. In the paper were presented the main assumptions for the evaluated event-based simulation method, with application to stiff-track transportation networks.

W artykule przedstawiono metodę kalibracji symulacji ruchu pojazdów na autostradzie za pomocą wzorca. Był nim inny, powszechnie uznany program symulacji ruchu pojazdów. Opisane zostały zasady działania kalibrowanego programu symulacji. Przed programami postawiono takie same wyselekcjonowane zadanie. Przedstawiono wyniki porównania obu programów, operujących na tych samych strumieniach zgłoszeń, na początku symulowanego odcinka autostrady.
In the paper introduced method of calibration of traffic simulation on motorway using exemplar. The exemplar was other, recognized universally simulation programme. Described rules of activity calibrated of simulation programme. Put such oneself, sorted, exercise for both programmes. Introduced results of comparison both programmes operating on same streams of notifications at the beginning simulated of motorway section.

The probability of an accident in transportation systems can serve as a measure of these systems safety or risk, depending on the objective. Therefore numerous methods and models for risk evaluation, with respect to maritime, have been developed. However, these models are either too simplified, allowing relatively fast analysis but very often missing the substantial links among the model variables, or they are too slow for effective analysis, due to computational complexity, not necessarily being backed-up with the complexity of the model itself. Thereby, this paper introduces a novel method evaluating the probability of ship-ship collision in the maritime transportation system focusing on the open sea collisions, applying the queuing theory in the simulation model. The model allows relatively fast prediction as it focuses on the specific events (e.g. accidents), instead of simulating the whole traffic. To support this hypothesis a case study is presented focusing on a selected element of transportation system in operation.

W niniejszym artykule przedstawiono wieloelementowe, sprzętowo-programowe środowisko symulacyjne do sterowania ruchu drogowego. Główną ideą było wytworzenie łatwo rozbudowywalnego, elastycznego symulatora ruchu drogowego umożliwiającego prowadzenie badań z zakresu sterowania ruchem drogowym. Wykorzystano do tego specjalnie opracowane makiety obszarowe (różne rodzaje skrzyżowań dróg), sterowniki PLC oraz opracowano program komputerowy interpretujący dane pochodzące z makiet.
The multi-component, hardware and software simulation environment for traffic control is presented in this paper. The main idea was to create easy extendable, flexible simulation facility for research in the field of traffic control. A specially designed model area (different types of road junctions: a T-type intersection, crossing four roads classical and a typical junction, which is a model of a real system of roads in Szczecin), PLCs and a proprietary computer program that interprets data from the model were used for this purpose. The paper presents the concept of a hardware-software simulator (Fig. 1) together with a description of individual elements (Figs. 2, 3 and 5). It is worth mentioning that the way to develop a program and the layout and type of PLC allows the connection of any mock-ups that will provide the appropriate signals. These signals are interpreted and on the basis of them the so-called scenario will be generated. Finally, the paper presents a real situation that could occur at the T-type intersection (vehicle enters the intersection and cannot leave it). Due to the fact that the models are equipped with the so-called inductive loops, the system offers an appropriate scenario to avoid blocking the intersection. The paper can be concluded with a statement that the developed hardware-software simulator allows conducting research in the field of traffic control in a safe and collision-free way.

Vehicle emission calculation is critical for evaluating motor vehicle related environmental protection policies. Currently, many studies calculate vehicle emissions from integrating the microscopic traffic simulation model and the vehicle emission model. However, conventionally vehicle emission models are presented as a stand-alone software, requiring a laborious processing of the simulated second-by-second vehicle activity data. This is inefficient, in particular, when multiple runs of vehicle emission calculations are needed. Therefore, an integrated vehicle emission computation system is proposed around a microscopic traffic simulation model. In doing so, the relational database technique is used to store the simulated traffic activity data, and these data are used in emission computation through a built-in emission computation module developed based on the IVE model. In order to ensure the validity of the simulated vehicle activity data, the simulation model is calibrated using the genetic algorithm. The proposed system was implemented for a central urban region of Nanjing city. Hourly vehicle emissions of three types of vehicles were computed using the proposed system for the afternoon peak period, and the results were compared with those computed directly from the IVE software with a trivial difference in the results from the proposed system and the IVE software, indicating the validity of the proposed system. In addition, it was found for the study region that passenger cars are critical for controlling CO, buses are critical for controlling CO and VOC, and trucks are critical for controlling NOx and CO2. Future work is to test the proposed system in more traffic management and control strategies, and more vehicle emission models are to be incorporated in the system.

The method for the choice of rational regimes of traffic light control is developed based on the minimization of the number of violations the requirements of traffic light signals by pedestrians depending on the volume-capacity ratio of traffic lanes and control of vehicular queue on the approach to the stop-line. Assessment of rationality is carried out considering the simultaneous impact of such factors as roadway volume-capacity ratio, traffic light restrictive signal duration, the number of violations of the traffic rules by pedestrians, and maximal queue length of vehicles. The model of the change of the number of violations of the rules of crossing the roadway by pedestrians depending on the volume-capacity ratio of different intersection types is developed in this paper. The model of determining the maximal vehicular queue length before intersections depending on the volume-capacity ratio and the share of the restrictive signal on the lane in the control cycle is developed. Recommendations about the choice of rational regimes of traffic light control depending on traffic delay, planning parameters of the road network, and pedestrian behavior are proposed.

The testing of cooperative transport systems is challenging because of their complexity and distributions. With TTCN3 a standard based procedure is available for specifying, executing and evaluating the testing of distributed systems such as cooperative transport systems. In the paper a standard, model and tool based solution for the testing of distributed cooperative transport systems is introduced. Based on the TTCN3 semantic, a specific model based approach for dealing with the complexity of the necessary distributed test systems was developed. With the help of some practiceoriented examples from the traffic sector this approach is presented.

In the course of research the fuzzy algorithm for traffic control at signalized intersection has been developed. Based on the results of simulating of intersection functioning during an hour and a day it has been established that using of developed fuzzy algorithm enables to reduce average and maximal queue lengths of vehicles before the intersection owing to adaptation of control system parameters to traffic flow volumes.
Разработан нечеткий алгоритм управления движением на регулируемом перекрестке. По результатам моделирования работы перекрестка на протяжении часа и на протяжении дня установлено, что использование этого алгоритма позволит уменьшить средние и максимальные длины очередей транспортных средств перед перекрестком за счет адаптации параметров системы управления к интенсивности транспортных потоков.

Contemporary planning of the road network in cities assumes the use of transport models. The microscopic model allows provision of information and decision-making regarding, for example, emissions, traffic organisation, geometrics of the intersection and traffic control system. This article describes the development of comprehensive methodology applied for carrying out the research related to the design of geometrical parameters of the roundabout. The methodology involves developing instructions for preparing solutions for performance evaluations of roundabouts using a microscopic simulation model with the VISSIM software. The application of the developed methodology was prepared on the case study of the roundabout in Gdańsk. The results of the prepared case study were discussed.

W artykule opisano założenia i konstrukcję modelu transportowego opracowanego na potrzeby studium transportowego Bydgosko-Toruńskiego Obszaru Partnerstwa (B-TOP) [1], w którym zintegrowano dwa niezależne modele miejskie, uwzględniono obszary podmiejskie, wiejskie oraz wzajemne powiązania pomiędzy obu sąsiedzkimi miastami. W modelu odtworzono wszystkie formy transportu, w tym m.in. ruch pieszy, rowerowy oraz środkami transportu publicznego kolejowego, tramwajowego i autobusowego. Model ten został zastosowany do diagnozy funkcjonowania transportu w analizowanym obszarze, analizy SWOT oraz opracowania modeli prognostycznych dla różnych scenariuszy rozwoju gospodarczego analizowanego obszaru. Modele te zostały z powodzeniem zastosowane do opracowania koncepcji rozwoju systemów transportowych B-TOP.
The article presents assumptions and construction of transportation model developed for the transport study of the Bydgoszcz- Torun Area Partnership (B-TOP), which integrates two independent models of urban areas, suburban and rural areas and the interrelationship between the two neighboring cities. The model renders all forms of transport, including pedestrian, bicycle and public transport (railway transport, trams and buses). This model was used to diagnose the functioning of transport in the analyzed area, the SWOT analysis and the development of predictive models for different scenarios of economic development of the analyzed area. These models have been successfully applied to develop the concept of transport systems development B -TOP.

This paper evaluates near ship-ship collision situations in the Tagus River Estuary using a simulation model of ship navigation in restricted waters. The simulation model consists of a ship collision avoidance model based on the Artificial Potential Field (APF) method, which has been improved to account for the lateral distribution of traffic along the route, the ship type and length and speed development of the ships along the trajectory. AIS data of ships entering and leaving the port of Lisbon are analysed to obtain the main characteristics of traffic parameters used as input for the traffic simulation model, such as: the routes of the vessels, speed distribution along the routes, traffic density and characteristics of the ships in each route, among others. First, the improved model of ship navigation and the Monte Carlo simulation technique are used to simulate the marine traffic in the Tagus River Estuary. Then, the concept of “ship domain” is used as collision criterion to determine the number of near collisions and the locations where they are most likely to occur. Finally, the simulation results are compared to the ones obtained from raw AIS data to assess the capability of the simulation model for marine traffic risk analysis.

This paper provides an overview on the ACROSSEE project (funded by the ERDF under the SEE program), its objectives, general methodology, and the main results. Moreover, the main survey results are presented as they relate to the Romanian road and rail border-crossing points (BCPs) with the Eastern neighbourly country, Moldavia. Results include the actual status of the road BCP, surveys on exiting and entering traffic flows, answers to specific questionnaires of the truck and car drivers in relation with origin-destination of the trips, average waiting time in queue and time required for procedures and controls. Discussion on the mathematical modelling is presented and a provisional simulation model is developed, using ARENA software. The early results are used in order to introduce the need for future assessment of the transit time in a road BCP, with the main purpose: the substantiation of the strategic and operational actions for improvements in trade and transport crossings of the EU borders, considering the need for more vigilant and less time-consuming checks at the outside borders of the EU.
Ce papier donne un aperçu sur le projet ACROSSEE (financé par le FEDER dans le cadre du programme SEE), ses objectifs, la méthodologie générale, et les principaux résultats; en outre,les principaux résultats de l'enquête sont présentés en rapport avec les points routiers et ferroviaires de passage frontaliers (PPF) entre Roumanie et Moldavie. Les résultats comprennent l'état actuel du PPF de la route; enquêtes sur la sortie et l'entrée des flux de trafic; réponses aux questionnaires spécifique des chauffeurs de camions et de voitures en relation avec l'origine-destination desvoyages; le temps moyen d'attente et le temps nécessaire pour accomplir les procedures du contrôle. Discussion sur la modélisation mathématique est présentée et un modèle de simulation prévisionnel est développé, en utilisant le logiciel ARENA. Les premiers résultats sont utilisés afin d'introduire la nécessité d'une évaluation ultérieure du temps de transit par un PPF routier, ayant comme objectif principal la justification des actions stratégiques et opérationnelles pour des améliorations dans le commerce et le transport franchissant les frontières de l'UE, compte tenu de la nécessité d'un contrôle plus vigilant et habituellement long à la frontière extérieure de l'UE.

In the field of railway transport many activities are taken to achieve higher availability of offered services. A few of them consider more flexible rules of creating and starting trains. This requirement translates into greater complexity of railway traffic opertional management and control (RTMC). At the Faculty of Transport of Warsaw University of Technology classes for students have been conducted for several years with the use of the KSR-EDU stand. Taking into account the described trends of railway traffic nature, the KSR-EDU stand was connected to a simulator of real railway traffic. This connection allows to practice various and more complicated movement scenarios. The article describes RTMC layer model and simulator architecture in general. Two simulation tasks are described in details. The algorithms of simulation tasks for different levels of simulation are presented. In the end the benefits arising from application of the simulation for particular didactic tasks are discussed.

W artykule opisano badania prędkości i struktury kierunkowej pojazdów na ulicy Architektów w Rzeszowie. Ulicę zaprojektowano dla obsługi ruchu lokalnego, natomiast jest także wykorzystywana dla ruchu tranzytowego. Celem badań było określenie rozkładu prędkości pojazdów oraz określenie udziału pojazdów tranzytowych w całkowitym ruchu drogowym na ulicy. Wyniki badania posłużyły do opracowania koncepcji uspokojenia ruchu ze względu na zwiększone zagrożenie bezpieczeństwa ruchu drogowego. Wyniki badań i wnioski z analizy świadczą o konieczności wykonywania prognoz ruchu zaawansowanymi metodami w celu odpowiedniego zaprojektowania ciągów komunikacyjnych eliminujących ruch tranzytowy z ulic osiedlowych niedostosowanych do takiego ruchu.
The article describes the speed distribution and directional structure of vehicles on the Architektów street in Rzeszow. The street has been designed for local traffic, but it is also used for transit traffic. The results of the study have been used to develop the concept of traffic calming zone due to increase the road safety. The results and conclusions of the analysis demonstrate the necessity to make advanced traffic forecasts for the appropriate design of road network what eliminates transit traffic from unoccupied street traffic.

Several abnormal driving behaviors in violation of traffic rules can be observed on the road network in Kuwait. These behaviors would likely hinder traffic flow and can worsen traffic congestion. These behaviors may also cause simulation model outputs to deviate from actual traffic conditions. Such aberrant behaviors have not been addressed in the literature, either in terms of the rate of occurrence or in terms of the factors influencing drivers’ engagement in these behaviors. This study sheds light on drivers' tendencies to engage in five maneuvers that fall into the category of behaviors that violate traffic rules and could have detrimental effects on traffic conditions in Kuwait. The tendencies of drivers to engage in such behaviors were elicited through self- report questionnaires. The study found that a significant number of drivers in Kuwait display these driving behaviors. The effects of driver gender, driver age, and annual driving distance on the tendency of drivers to engage in such behaviors were investigated.

“Safe voyage from berth to berth”: This is the goal of all e-Navigation strains driven by new technologies, new infrastructures, and new organizational structures on bridge, on shore, as well as in the cloud. To facilitate these efforts suitable engineering and safety/risk assessment methods are required. Understanding maritime transportation as a sociotechnical system allows the usage of system-engineering methods. Simulation-based test beds for verification and validation (V +V) of e-Navigation technologies are important methods to obtain functional safety and reliability. The modeling and simulation toolset HAGGIS is a cosimulation system for the evaluation of e-Navigation concepts and systems. It provides a maritime traffic simulator and a physical world (n-body) simulator and services for finding rare events of failures. HAGGIS is accompanied by the physical test bed LABSKAUS, which implements a reference port and waterways. This paper describes an integrated and seamless approach for developing new e-Navigation technologies starting with virtual simulation-based safety assessment and ending in physical real-world demonstrations. It gives an overview of the actual test bed and introduces requirements, concepts and elements of HAGGIS and LABSKAUS, which are joined in the e-Maritime Integrated Reference Platform (eMIR) test bed.

As part of this research, a computer model of the existing bidirectional single-track railway line section between Zagreb Glavni and Turopolje railway stations has been developed, and it has been modified with the aim of developing a new model of the double-track line on this line section, and which in relation to the existing conditions also includes additionally the new stop Donja Lomnica. The purpose of developing the new model of the double-track line is to study the possibility of introducing a new plan of cyclic timetable of the suburban and regional trains that would significantly improve the quality of existing service in railway suburban traffic of the city of Zagreb. The procedure of single-track line model modification has been performed based on simulation of railway operations in the station areas with the aim of improvement of line capacity necessary for introduction of new solution of the cyclic timetable. Within this approach, the solutions for modification of railway infrastructure in stations have been selected which have proven to be the best regarding the achievement of the mentioned purpose. As part of this work, a new solution of cyclic timetable of suburban and regional trains on the new model of the double-track railway line has been proposed by taking into consideration the existing characteristics of traffic of other trains on the observed railway line section, as in Zagreb Glavni railway station which represents the main node in the network. Stability of this cyclic timetable has been tested by the application of three different simulation scenarios. The results of this research have proven that the introduction of the new model of double-track line can enable stable application of the proposed cyclic timetable.

The problem of effective management of the railway freight flows in the conditions of the multiplicity of operators requires the rationalization of the transportation process. The further development of the authors’ research on creating the mathematical model of the railway freight flows in the region transportation and technological system is presented. For the first time, the theory of algebraic curves of higher orders is used to create a territorial model of the oligopolistic market of freight traffic. The algorithm for creating a model of freight transportation is based on the analysis of the qualitative and quantitative indicators of the operator company in the considered region with the use of analytical, heuristic, and graphic capabilities of math software. The theoretical substantia-tion of the territorial picture, the freight transportation market in the region is obtained. The carried-out research allows to specify possible ways of optimization of freight traffic distribution.

The increase in air traffic requires organizational changes at the airport and near the airport. To ensure appropriate airport operating efficiency, it is becoming necessary to provide unobstructed flow of information between all parties involved in the process. Common decision-making process regarding operations carried out at an airport, based on legible information, may contribute to faster and more precise prediction of sequence of events. This article aims to present pre-departure sequencing method in the terms of the dynamic growth of airports. This method dynamically defines current sequencing of departing aircraft with consideration of time required to maintain minimum separation between subsequent take offs and evaluates runway occupancy regarding planned arrivals. Developed method uses criteria of reduction maximum delay on one handling position, which is starting runway in use. It is carried out by sequencing tasks, in accordance with non-decreasing requested times of completion. Greedy algorithm has been used to define sequence of carrying out take off operations based on the earliest possible time of the departure. Faced with dynamic growth of airports, this method may contribute to improvement of predictability of events, and thus facilitate proper decision making, which will allow managing airport traffic smoothly and without unnecessary downtimes.

The paper presents the development of a new simulation method to optimize bends in marine waterways. This method, using results of empirical research and simulation methods, would allow accurate determination of safe manoeuvring areas. The method was used at the stage of detailed design of parameters of the, which is undergoing modernization, to determine the optimum parameters of horizontal curves of the fairway. The study was conducted on the type of manoeuvring simulator called Polaris Kongsberg and attended by pilots from the Szczecin–Swinoujscie Pilot Station. Based on the studies carried out, the maximum safe ship length was determined for the redesigned waterway and the conditions for their safe operation. The maximum lengths of these ships are as follows: cruise Lc = 260 m, container Lc = 240 m and a bulk carrier Lc = 220 m.

Question of traffic congestions analysed within the framework of a city logistics is such problem, which is caused due to various factors. There are applied different methodological approaches in order to eliminate the traffic congestions. These methods are distinguished each other with regard to their complexity and applied tools. Among these tools just the software simulation plays an irreplaceable role. The software simulation method is an efficient decision-making tool, which is suitable for solving of the traffic problems during the individual solution phases. There will be presented in the following paper application possibilities of the software simulation methods that are specified for solving of the traffic congestions.

In a previous work [Pasini L and Sabatini S 2016 TASK Quart. 20 (1) 9], we described a technique that allows a specific system of urban traffic to be associated to a description file system, called Model.dat. This file contains a list of data objects that are defined in the library [Pasini L and Feliziani S 2013 TASK Quart. 17 (3) 155] and that form the architecture model of a vehicular traffic system. This model turns out to be a network of queuing systems. In this work, we illustrate how we adapted the old procedure to study a new urban traffic system. Moreover, through a new tracking procedure, we illustrate how we developed a graphic simulation able to reinterpret the data from the simulation of the queuing networks model, in order to make it easier to check the effectiveness of the simulator and to have a graphical way to analyze the data.

Road traffic poses high risk to human health and life and material objects. In an emergency situation, it is crucial for a driver to be able to reduce speed of the vehicle and pull up as quickly as possible. The braking distance of a vehicle depends on many factors including the surface condition and the braking system efficiency. During maintenance of a vehicle, the elements of a braking system undergo wear processes and failures. Therefore, producers equip vehicles with emergency braking systems, which can stop a car in the event of the main braking system failure. Cars in Poland are of diversified age therefore many different design solutions can be found. In this study, the problems connected with stopping a car in case of the brakes failure has been discussed according to the type of brake actuation system. Simulation calculations were performed with the use of computer tool V-SIM4, and the obtained results allow to find a braking design with the highest efficiency in terms of braking distance and maintenance of the vehicle direction in case of the main system failure. The research results make it possible to formulate a general conclusion that structures of emergency braking systems should be used in the following order: fully doubled, LL, HI whereas systems TT and X should be replaced by systems LL or possibly HI.

World trends in the field of intellectualization and digitalization of all activity spheres, caused by the rapid growth of engineering and technology, have caused serious changes in the transport sector. Road transport has a negative impact on the environment, to a large extent this relates to city’s air pollution in urbanization conditions and the vehicle fleet accelerated growth. Reducing the negative vehicles impact on the environment is possible only through the development of integrated solutions for managing the transport system. Goal of this article is to study the applicability of decision support systems and simulation models to predict the possibility of reducing the negative vehicles impact on the environment. The developed simulation models for road network problem areas of the Naberezhnye Chelny city allow us to study the influence of traffic parameters on the volume of harmful substances in vehicles exhaust gases, as well as noise pollution. Using the model, it is also possible to assess the possible reduction in the degree of air pollution when converting engines public transport to natural gas fuel. Model experiments showed the adequacy of the proposed approach.

The paper describes a universal simulation method used by the authors to determine the conditions of safe operation of sea ferries, in terms of marine traffic engineering. The assumptions, simulation experiment and results are described on the example of the m/f Mazovia manoeuvring in the Port of Ystad. Carried out and described in the article simulation study using the present method was aimed to determine the possibility of adapting the propulsion and steering systems of the ferry including: 1) determination of the wind limits in the Port of Ystad in terms of Mazovia ferry operation; 2) assessment of the maneuvering safety in a port area and determination of conditions of safe operation with present propulsion and steering systems; 3) determination of the possibility of adapting the propulsion and steering systems to meet the requirements of the shipowner for the economically efficient and safe operation of the ferry.
W artykule opisano uniwersalną metodę symulacji używaną przez autorów dla określania bezpiecznych warunków operowania przez promy morskie w kontekście zasad inżynierii morskiej. Założenia, eksperyment symulacji i wyniki są opisane na przykładzie m/f Mazowsza manewrującego w Porcie Ystad. Badania symulacyjne oparte o powyższą metodę i opisane w artykule zakładały określenie możliwości dostosowania systemów napędowych i sterowania promów włącznie z: 1) określeniem ograniczeń wiatru w porcie Ystad w kontekście możliwości manewrowych promu Mazovia; 2) oszacowanie bezpieczeństwa manewrów w porcie oraz określenia warunków bezpieczeństwa operacji przy obecnych systemach napędowych i sterowych; 3) określenie możliwości dostosowania układów napędowych i sterowych dla spełnienia oczekiwań armatora odnośnie ekonomiki i bezpieczeństwa operacji promowych.

In the paper, the simulation PROP5 program is used to predict the sound level in proximity of a road with defined surroundings. The simulation involves road geometry (number of lanes and their positions) and traffic structure (vehicle flow rates and their average speeds), with equivalent omnidirectional point sources representing vehicles. In Part I of the paper, the agreement between measurement and simulation results is tested to verify the accuracy degree of the applied models of a road, as a noise source and propagation throughout surrounding space. In Part II, using the pre-tested simulation program, the possibility of acoustic climate improvement has been analyzed.

This article presents basic principles of using simulation research in marine traffic engineering and describes a simulation method of waterway design. The author indicates the most common errors made when the procedures of simulation research are not followed, despite advanced ship handling simulators used, which makes it impossible to satisfy the criterion of conformity between the examined system and its model. Practical use of results thus obtained leads to the breach of safety criteria or overdimensioning of waterway system. The presented simulation method of waterway design has been developed by this author. Applying the procedures of the method ensures that the mentioned conformity criterion is fulfilled.

In the paper, the simulation PROP5 program with the road model defined as a noise source and road surroundings model, is used to predict the efficiency of noise protecting means for the chosen building. The appropriate models of verified accuracy have been chosen by comparison of the simulation results with field measurements (Walerian et al., 2010). Here, using the pre-tested simulation program, the possibility of acoustic climate improvement has been analyzed in the ranges of practical variations of the input parameters. The road parameters: its geometry (number of lanes and their positions) and traffic structure over lanes (vehicle flow rates and their average speeds) have been taken under consideration as changeable parameters, that could be corrected to obtain acoustical climate improvement. Moreover, an acoustical screen designing has been considered. The screen efficiency has been evaluated under conditions defined by the input parameters of the road and its surroundings.

Opis:
Providing a Quality of Services (QoS) into current telecommunication networks based on packet technology is a big challenge nowadays. Network operators have to support a number of new services like voice or video which generate new type of traffic. This traffic serviced with QoS in consequence requires access to appropriate network resources. Additionally, new traffic type is mixed with older one, like best-effort. Analysis of these new and mixed traffic types shows that this traffic is self-similar. Network mechanisms used for delivery of quality of services may depend on traffic type especially from the performance point of view. This paper presents a feasibility study done into the effect of traffic type influence on performance of routing algorithm while the routing algorithm is treated as one of the mechanisms to support QoS in the network.

This work is part of the research activities developed in our department on the construction of vehicle traffic system simulators (TASKQuart.22(2) 135 [1],20(1) 9 [2],17(3) 155 [3],20(3) 273 [5],14(4) 405 [6],9(4) 397 [7],Simulation Modelling Practice and Theory 17 (4) 625 [8]). The modeling of the traffic system is implemented through the use of queuing networks. In this case we analyze, through a simulation, the impact on traffic flows of a structural change that the Municipal Administration has implemented on the urban road system. The study refers to some works published by us previously about the procedures applied by us to build a simulator. In this case we have developed software allowing us to analyze the data tracked by the system simulations to display it graphically. This procedure enables us to clearly compare the traffic system behavior in its new configuration with the traffic system behavior in the previous configuration.

The increasing complexity of modelled systems opens up questions of combining several modelling approaches in order to achieve higher efficiency and the required clarity of the simulations performed. For this reason, in addition to standard application-oriented modelling tools, we can see the growing popularity of the so-called hybrid or multimethod modelling approaches. A typical representative of such a modelling environment is the AnyLogic generalpurpose modelling tool. This article describes the authors' experience with this tool in solving a selected problem in the field of modelling transport processes in urban areas. Using the example of the uncontrolled selected intersection, the procedure of creating a model with a more detailed analysis of its selected parts is discussed. The model based on real conditions is elaborated and compared with the model containing the fictitious traffic light control. Comparison is based on measuring the time that vehicles moving in the critical direction spend in the model. Both discussed models are stored in the cloud and may be run and study free.
Rosnąca złożoność modelowanych systemów otwiera pytania o połączenie kilku podejść do modelowania w celu osiągnięcia wyższej wydajności i wymaganej przejrzystości przeprowadzanych symulacji. Z tego powodu, oprócz standardowych narzędzi do modelowania zorientowanego na aplikację, możemy zaobserwować rosnącą popularność tak zwanych podejść do modelowania hybrydowego lub multimetodowego. Typowym przedstawicielem takiego środowiska modelowania jest narzędzie do modelowania ogólnego AnyLogic. W tym artykule opisano doświadczenia autorów z tym narzędziem w rozwiązywaniu wybranego problemu w zakresie modelowania procesów transportowych na obszarach miejskich. Na przykładzie niekontrolowanego wybranego skrzyżowania omówiono procedurę tworzenia modelu z bardziej szczegółową analizą jego wybranych części. Model oparty na rzeczywistych warunkach jest opracowany i porównany z modelem zawierającym fikcyjną kontrolę sygnalizacji świetlnej. Porównanie opiera się na pomiarze czasu, w jakim pojazdy poruszają się w krytycznym kierunku w modelu. Oba omówione modele są przechowywane w chmurze i mogą być uruchamiane i badane bezpłatnie.

Port capacity is a relevant parameter to estimate the expected performance of a port facility. Many simulation models have been used to predict traffic in ports and waterways, but they do not include provisions for estimating the port’s capacity. The innovative method presented here determines a Port Network Traffic Capacity (PNTC) based on simulation. This method estimates PNTC given the configuration and processing characteristics of the port. It can be a useful tool to apply while designing ports, because only a limited number of simulations are required to estimate of the capacity of the infrastructure under consideration.

In the Slovak republic, there is an increase of building roundabouts in both urban and non-build-up areas. The construction of roundabouts in urban areas brings mainly calming of traffic intensity. A roundabout in non-build-up areas could be built only within certain conditions. In this paper, we have been studying a small roundabout location and its traffic characteristics in the city of Hlohovec. In some cases, a small roundabout could be very good solution for exceeded traffic flow capacity of signal controlled intersections as well as for intersections with a high number of traffic incidents. But in our case, a small roundabout is not suitable for such intensity of vehicles as we measured in transport survey. So we focused on other possibilities how to improve this current situation. We have decided to make a proposal of signal controlled intersection as well as a turbo roundabout and compare the results of traffic characteristics of each proposal. We have made several simulations of each variant of traffic situation, using transport-planning software Aimsun, and calculate average values of all recorded traffic characteristics. As inputs, we have used intensities and other basic data obtained from transport survey. Using simulations outputs of transport planning software, we have been able to compare a current state with signal controlled intersection and turbo roundabout. Traffic characteristics of turbo roundabout show significant improvements compare to signal controlled intersection, f.e. in delay time (more than 68%), travel time (more than 22%), number of stops (more than 73%). Turbo roundabout seems to be the best solution for traffic organising at this chosen intersection in the city of Hlohovec, regarding travel time, delays, number of stops and safety at all.

This work fits into the context of our studies on traffic simulation for computer and telecommunication networks [1–5]. The technique that we use is based on complex queuing network models that allow us to simulate the functioning of network devices, and the traffic flows between them. In a previous work [2] we defined a library of objects for the modeling of the computer network. This library also models the network traffic induced by the execution of web applications run in a distributed fashion on various network devices. In this work we describe the changes applied to the service procedures of some library objects, and we develop a specific study for the evaluation of the execution times of three types of applications: 1. Navigation 2. Download Manager 3. Mobile Agents.

The problem of traffic management, especially in big cities is particularly actual. Due to unavoidable motorization increase in number of vehicles has resulted in congestion, traffic jams, difficulty of the movement of pedestrians, increasing the number of accidents. Traffic jams are undesirable because of higher fuel consumption, increased pollution due to exhaust gases as well as noise, etc. The only way to avoid harmful consequences is to optimize the operation of the traffic lights cycle. The purpose of the work is creation the simulation model in GPSS for determining the optimal traffic lights cycle at adjustable crossroads when managing vehicle flows with specified intensities. The mathematical model of adjustable crossroads can be presented as a queuing system. Development of the simulation model includes several stages: programming in GPSS, verification and assessment of the adequacy. The algorithm for optimizing the traffic lights cycle and diagrams are used to find the optimal value of the cycle. The minimum intersection travel time (including time of queuing) is selected as the optimal criterion. The object of study is the traffic lights cycle regulation of the intersection Sovietskaya St. – Rogachevskaya St. – Telman St. in Gomel, Belarus. The existing traffic lights cycle regulation at the intersection Sovietskaya str. – Rogachevskaya str. – Telman str. has been studied. Simulation modeling of the intersection has been created in GPSS and traffic light cycle optimization algorithm has been developed. According to a worked out algorithm the traffic lights cycle at research intersection during saturation flux has been improved. Transport delays both at the existing and optimized crossings have been estimated. Optimization of the traffic lights cycle will increase the traffic capacity of the intersection, reduce the volume of toxic emissions and decrease the accident risk. The developed simulation model can be modified for other types of intersections and used as the basis for a decision support system based on low-level simulation.

In addition to efficiency, reliability and the level of costs generated, work safety is an important aspect in the organization of airport operations. Work safety during the implementation of airport operations is one of the basic factors affecting the design and organization of airport systems. A graph of the airport panel structure is proposed and the decision problems regarding the taxiing of the aircraft on the apron and handling of the ship after landing are indicated.

Opis:
Urządzenia sterowania ruchem kolejowym mogą przebywać w różnych stanach eksploatacyjnych. Wynika to z procesu ich destrukcji, który związany jest z czasem istnienia urządzeń, intensywnością użytkowania, czy jakością obsługi technicznej [5, 7, 8]. Badania eksploatacyjne są źródłem cennej wiedzy, która pozwala nie tylko na doskonalenie konstrukcji urządzeń srk, ale również na sterowanie procesem eksploatacji [1, 3, 4]. W tym celu opracowywane są narzędzia informatyczne wspomagające proces diagnostyczny [2, 6, 9, 10, 11]. Pomocnym w testowaniu tych narzędzi może być, zaproponowany przez autorów artykułu, symulator uszkodzeń dedykowany urządzeniom srk.
Railway traffic control systems may have different working conditions. It results from their destruction process, which is related to the age of the devices, intensity of their operation or technical service quality. Operating tests are the source of valuable knowledge that allows not only to perfect the construction of railway traffic control devices, but also to control the operating process. In order to do that IT tools are developed, supporting the diagnostic process. What can be helpful in testing these tools can be, proposed by the authors of the article, a failures simulator dedicated to railway traffic control devices.

Opis:
This article focuses on traffic modeling of intersections in Aimsun. The intersections studied are in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. Every year, the number of vehicles on roads increases and congestions are created. Individual intersections do not have unlimited capacity. Simulations help to predict possible future problems and thus the possibility to prevent them. Accordingly, at intersections on Vajnorská street, a traffic survey was carried out using video cameras. Then, simulations were carried out in Aimsun. The results are shown in the tables separately for each intersection along with the determined overall quality level of the intersection. In addition to the current situation, simulations were carried out for increased traffic by 10% and 20%, and overall quality levels were also determined. Finally, the results were evaluated and compared with each other. This article points out the importance of research into the permeability of important points of the road network: intersections. It is necessary to carry out capacity assessments when planning any construction that will affect traffic in each location.
