    Uniwersytet jako społeczność nauczycieli i uczniów podlegał i nadal podlega istotnym zmianom. Od połowy wieku dziewiętnastego, wraz z olbrzymim przyśpieszeniem cywilizacyjnym, uniwersytet musiał redefiniować swoje cele i metody działania. Traktat i działalność kardynała Newmana i słynny raport Lyotarda stanowią kamienie milowe tego dyskursu. W tej materii wypowiedzi Derridy są nie tylko rozproszone, ale mniej znane. Zestawione i porównane w niniejszym artykule, mają na celu pokazanie, że niezależność myślenia, swoboda badań, ale też obowiązki kształcących wobec kształconych stanowią condicio sine qua non współczesnej edukacji.
    The University as a community of instructors and instructed has always been and still is in a constant state of essential changes. From the second half of the nineteenth century on, triggered by the breathtaking speed of civilization’s progress, it was forced to redefine its objectives and courses of action. The Treatise and the lifetime achievement of Cardinal Newman and Lyotard’s renowned rapport mark the crucial milestones in this discourse. Derrida’s comments on this topic, however, seem incoherent and are less well known. Juxtaposed and compared in this paper they will provide sufficient evidence that independence of thought, freedom of scientific research as well as the responsibility of the instructors towards the instructed constitute the conditio sine qua non of present day education.

    Jednym z największych osiągnięć umysłowych czasów, określanych mianem Wieków Średnich, było powstanie uniwersytetów. Uniwersytety, stając się motorem rozwoju cywilizacji, powoływane były przez Kościołów i były przejawem wysokiego poziomu kultury europejskiej i chrześcijańskiej. Z czasem jednak, doszły do głosu tendencje sekularystyczne i upaństwawiające. Stąd też, w XIX w., z inicjatywy papieża Leona XIII tworzono lub reaktywowano uniwersytety, które w swojej nazwie zyskały przydomek katolickie. Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie kluczowych trendów współczesności – takich jak globalizacja, pluralizm wartości, urynkowienie oraz budowanie społeczeństwa wiedzy – mających wpływ na funkcjonowanie uniwersytetów, w tym uczelni katolickich. Niniejszy artykuł omawia także status prawnego, ale przede wszystkim naturę oraz misję katolickich uniwersytetów.
    One of the greatest intellectual achievements of the times referred to as the Middle Ages was the emergence of universities. Serving as catalysts for the development of the civilization, universities were established by the Church and were a manifestation of a high level of the European and Christian culture. However, with the passage of time, secularist and nationalizing tendencies in this area became more pronounced. Therefore, in the 19th century, through the initiative of Pope Leo XIII, the name “catholic” was added to the newly established or reactivated universities. The aim of the article is to present the key contemporary trends, such as globalization, pluralism of values, free-market principles and the building of a knowledge-based society, which all have a significant impact on the functioning of universities, including the catholic ones. The current article discusses primarily the nature and mission of catholic universities, as well as their legal status.

    This article tackles the problem of social involvement by academics and researchers. The author defines social responsibility widely as the involvement of knowledge, academics and educational institutions in solving the problems of the local community. The concept predicts that this can come about not only by disseminating research results, but also by involvement in  pro-social activity without loss of autonomy. The author shows that this can be a way of building trust in science, as well as being a tool in opposing the anti-science culture. It can also be a means of rebuilding the status of science in a world of information bubbles and fake news.

    The article presents changes in the education of economists in Poland, referring in particular to the experiences of the Poznań University of Economics and Business and its institutional predecessors in the years 1926-2016. The aim of the article is to analyze the contemporary framework of the university as a commercial enterprise versus the classical integrity of the academy, related to Humboldt’s conception of a university. The analysis includes an approach to the modelling of educational programmes in economics, starting from serving the needs of the immediate business environment in the inter-war period to education according to the standards of the university which conducts research and educational activities within the system in harmony with the Bologna Process. Proposals of an analytical approach were also formulated in connection with dilemmas concerning the organization of a university and its organizational units which differ in their substance, quality and personnel. The concluding part expresses the opinion that although transformations of academic culture are multidirectional and complex, the present times have witnessed a final dismantling of the classical academic culture and which takes on the shape of the corporate culture of businesses operating in the market economy, dominated by economic calculus and the application of competition rules. It is important to ensure that the humanistic values of science and higher education as the mainstays of universitas are not lost in the processes of rationalizing and reforming the structures of universities of economics.

    Muzea w krajowych bibliotekach uczelnianych, poza izbami pamięci, nie występują, a już muzeum prezentujące technikę jest absolutnym wyjątkiem. W artykule zaprezentowano takie muzeum, utworzone w ramach Biblioteki Głównej uczelni technicznej, jaką jest Politechnika Śląska. Przedstawiono proces powstania Muzeum, charakterystykę działalności, zaprezentowano sposób tworzenia katalogu i podano jego lokalizację. Przedstawiono też Stowarzyszenie Muzeów Uczelnianych, z którym współpracuje placówka gliwicka.
    Museums in national university libraries, apart from the chambers of remembrance, are not common. The museum presenting the technique is an absolute exception. The article presents such a museum created as part of the Main Library of a technical university, which is the Silesian University of Technology. It presents the process of its creation, characteristics, and the way of creating a catalogue and its location. The Association of University Museums with which we cooperate was also presented.

    The article is regarding the mobilization of the elderly people taking place through activity of the University of the Third Age. An occurrence of the old age was described with her significant features including biological, psychological, social and spiritual dimensions of the life of the man. The elderly gradually is backing out of performed roles in society, can feel loneliness, pushing the social life into the background and produced fears with expectation of the death. A fact that seniors have a great development potential was emphasized, need of active activity in different fields of the life and the tendency of developing many interests. A history of the formation of the University of the Third Age was presented as well as their mission, cells, functions and areas and forms of the influence on the elderly were characterised, as well as to the society. These institutions are motivating elderly people in the intellectual, emotional, public, cultural and artistic aspect, as well as enable to include into the course of events general-social. School curricula carried out and forms of the influence contain a lot of contents of the gerontological prevention. University for seniors are counteracting the social exclusion of this group as well as are activating to action and the improvement of the quality of their life.

    Artykuł porusza problematykę obecności zagadnień misjologicznych w stuletniej historii Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego Jana Pawła II, zwłaszcza w Instytucie Teologii Fundamentalnej. W pierwszej części autor przedstawia jej kontekst społeczny i eklezjalny oraz etapy i sposoby obecności na uczelni. W części drugiej omawia najważniejsze osiągnięcia. W podsumowaniu postuluje się dalszy jej rozwój poprzez opracowanie oraz wydanie dokumentów papieskich na temat misji i polskiego podręcznika misjologii.
    The article discusses the question of the presence of missiological issues in the history of the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin, especially at the Institute of Fundamental Theology. In the first part, the author presents its social and ecclesial context, as well as its stages and methods of presence at the university. In the second part, it gives the main missiological achievements. In con- clusion, it is suggested the need of the further development of the missiology in the near future by elaborating and publishing of papal documents on the mission and of the Polish handbook of missiology.

    Artykuł dotyczy problematyki socjalizacji ekonomicznej w zdalnym nauczaniu. Poddano analizie inicjatywę podjętą przez Uniwersytet Ekonomiczny w Krakowie w ramach trzeciej misji uczelni. Na potrzeby prowadzonych badań skoncentrowano się na zajęciach z dziećmi w wieku szkolnym, które stanowiły kluczową część projektu Oczy Szeroko Otwarte (grudzień 2020–czerwiec 2021). Niniejszy projekt był sfinansowany ze środków Narodowego Centrum Badań i Rozwoju. Jest on przykładem inicjatywy wpisującej się w zakres trzeciej misji uczelni, w tym dedykowany zagadnieniom związanym z socjalizacją ekonomiczną dzieci. W celu realizacji przyjętych założeń badawczych posłużono się metodą obserwacji uczestniczącej. W artykule przedstawiono wyniki przeprowadzonych obserwacji autorskich, które zgromadzono podczas zajęć z dziećmi. Badano przebieg procesu edukacyjnego w trybie zdalnym, jak również podjęto próbę znalezienia odpowiedzi na postawione pytania badawcze. Na kanwie podjętych rozważań sformułowano konkluzje oraz rekomendacje, które mogą przyczynić się do podniesienia jakości zajęć dydaktycznych przeprowadzonych zdalnie.
    The article concerns the issues of economic socialization in distance learning. An initiative implemented by the University of Economics in Krakow as part of the university’s third mission was analyzed. For the purposes of this research, the focus was on classes with school children, which were a key part of the Eyes Wide Open project (December 2020–June 2021). This project was financed by the National Center for Research and Development. The awarded projects are an example of an initiative that falls within the scope of the third mission of the university, including those dedicated to issues related to the economic socialization of children. In order to implement the adopted research assumptions, the participant observation method was used. The article presents the results of the author’s observations that were collected during the classes. The course of the educational process was studied remotely, and an attempt was made to find answers to the research questions posed. On the basis of the considerations, conclusions and recommendations were formulated that may contribute to the improvement of the quality of remote teaching activities.
