The aim of the article is to present activities undertaken at the EU level to ensure financial stability, and to assess the degree of stability of the EU financial system on the basis of selected indicators. The first part of the article introduces the concept of financial system stability and describes its importance in the modern economy and the methods of estimating the stability of the financial system. The second part of the article is devoted to the presentation of activities undertaken by the EU to increase the stability of the financial system, and the assessment of financial stability on the basis of two indicators: the Z-score indicator, used to assess the stability of the banking system, and the Stock Price Volatility index, showing the stability of the capital market.

Opis:
One of the main tasks of the Sub-committee on Ship Design and Construction (SDC) of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) is development of the 2nd Generation Intact Stability Criteria. The paper presents the framework and the approach agreed by the Sub-committee. The framework bases on the concept of stability failure and vulnerability assessment. However, the criteria, standards and regulations developed so far have weaknesses that may prevent some IMO Member States from adoption of the regulations on the Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) level. The paper presents some of the weaknesses that are the most important from the Author’s point of view. Awareness of the weaknesses may facilitate the future work of the Sub-committee and its working groups.

International stability norms included in the Code of Intact Stability 2008 adopted by IMO on 4 December 2008 constitutes the latest set of international requirements on intact stability of ships. However the requirements included in the Code, part of them compulsory (Included in the Part A of the Code), other only recommended (included in the Part B of the Code) are considered as not totally sufficient to assure safety of ships. Because of that, IMO decided that there would be the necessity to develop so called new generation stability criteria covering certain identified hazards, such as parametric resonance, loss of stability in the wave crest broaching, dead ship condition and excessive accelerations when rolling .Those criteria, or rather stability norms, are under development since 2008.The present approach, the work on which is well advanced, is however, not fully satisfactory and several important problems were discovered. This approach may need to be reconsidered or supplemented. The author in the paper presented discusses the weak points of the current approach and proposes possible different approach in order to make future ships safer from the stability point of view.

Opis:
Research background: As part of the creation of an effective mechanism for managing financial stability, the tasks of providing an inter-level and cross-sectoral financial equilibrium remain unresolved. So far, clear and unambiguous criteria for financial stability have not been formulated, with which monetary and prudential policies could be related, as well as measures to minimize systemic and individual risks. The problem of creating a system of indicators comes to the fore, allowing the creation of new effective instruments for regulation of financial flows that contribute to the prevention of financial crises. Purpose of the article: The paper proposes a system of indicators of financial stability, which allows for solving the tasks of inter-level and cross-sectoral equilibrium in the selection of regulatory tools for monetary and prudential policy. Methods: We have used real interest rates as a measure of financial stability at the macro level. The real rates have been calculated from time series with nominal interest rate and inflation in the credit market (divided into loans to financial and non-financial organizations and individuals), and in the bond market (divided into corporate, municipal, and federal bonds). The analysis of the market and institutional financial stability of the USA, Russia, Japan, Switzerland, Australia over the period 1984?2014 was done. Then, comprehensive investigation on the financial stability in the Russian Federation in 2014?2017 was conducted. The results have been compared against financial stability of individual banks, which was measured using profit to risk ratio. The latter has been calculated from bank?s financial reports using our method, which had been developed earlier. Findings & Value added: We have developed criteria for qualitative assessment of financial stability and the risk map, which helps to identify the level of accumulated imbalances in the market and institutional environment, as well as in the levels and sectors of the economy. The criteria for selecting monetary and prudential regulatory instruments have been formulated depending on the amount of accumulated risks. The criteria for forming a portfolio of regulatory instruments with regard to their rigidity are proposed.

The paper considers three concepts of polynomial stability for linear evolution operators which are defined in a general Banach space and whose norms can increase not faster than exponentially. Our approach is based on the extension of techniques for exponential stability to the case of polynomial stability. Some illustrating examples clarify the relations between the stability concepts considered in paper. The obtained results are generalizations of well-known theorems about the uniform and nonuniform exponential stability.

Exploring the stability of states and political systems is of interest to scientists and politicians all around the world. One of the most important questions in this field is the question of the relationship between stability and freedom. This paper considers the relationship between economic freedom and stability with regards to the example of countries of Central and Eastern Europe. The study uses quantitative analysis and the operationalisation of economic freedom through the Index of Economic Freedom (IEF); furthermore, stability is studied through the Fragile States Index (FSI), and the Political Stability and Absence of Violence/Terrorism Index (PSI). The analysis reveals a strong correlation between economic freedom and stability. According to linear regression models obtained by the author, economic freedom has a strong impact on stability. Models show that most of the components of IEF increase stability, whilst some components decrease it. This means that the same factors affect economic freedom and stability in different ways. In particular, taxes have a very positive effect on stability. At the same it is obvious that taxes reduce economic freedom. This fact allows us to resolve the existing contradictions among politicians and scientists, who differently assess the impact of economic freedom on stability. It may be stated that whilst economic freedom has in general a strong positive effect on stability, it can also have a negative effect.

Epoxy methacrylate of (E)-1,3-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)prop-2-en-1-one (EMC) has been synthesized by condensing 1 equivi. (318g) epoxy resin of (E)-1,3-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)prop-2-en-1-one and 2.1 equivi. (181g) methacrylic acid using 10 ml triethyl amine as a catalyst, 2.5 g hydroquinone as an inhibitor and 350 ml tetrahydrofuran as a solvent at reflux temperature for 1-7 h. Styrene was used as a reactive diluent. The structure of EMC was supported by FTIR and 1H NMR techniques. EMC showed endothermic transition at 118 °C and 307 °C, respectively due to melting and crosslinking followed by decomposition reaction and EMCS showed endothermic transitions at 81 °C and 255 °C due to branched and uncrosslinked EMCS and some physical change. EMC and EMCS are thermally stable up to about 265 and 332, respectively. EMC followed two steps degradation kinetics, while EMCS followed single step degradation kinetics. Jute and glass composites of EMCS were fabricated by hand lay-up technique followed by compression molding under 20 bar pressure and at 120 °C for 4 h. J-EMCS and G-EMCS showed 22.7 and 182 MPa tensile strength; 10.9 and 156.5 MPa flexural strength; 3.1 and 1.6 kV mm-1 electric strength; and 2.2 x 1012 and 2.8 x 1011 Ohm cm volume resistivity. Both J-EMCS and G-EMCS showed excellent hydrolytic stability even in harsh acidic and saline environments and also in boiling water. Observed equilibrium water content at 35 °C for J-EMCS and G-EMCS in water, 10% of aq. NaCl, and 10% of aq. HCl are 8.8, 10.8, and 8.7% ; 5.8, 4.6, and 4.7%, respectively. The composites may be useful for low load bearing housing units, and in electrical, electronic and marine fields.

We consider nonlinear non-autonomous multivariable systems governed by differential equations with differentiable linear parts. Explicit conditions for the exponential stability are established. These conditions are formulated in terms of the norms of the derivatives and eigenvalues of the variable matrices, and certain scalar functions characterizing the nonlinearity. Moreover, an estimate for the solutions is derived. It gives us a bound for the region of attraction of the steady state. As a particular case we obtain absolute stability conditions.
Our approach is based on a combined usage of the properties of the "frozen" Lyapunov equation, and recent norm estimates for matrix functions. An illustrative example is given.

At present, intact ship stability criteria have prescriptive nature. At the 45-th Session of SLF Sub-Committee a decision was made to change IMO attitude concerning intact ship stability from prescriptive rules to performance based rules. This paper aims at providing a basic framework for the development of intact ship stability criteria based on a deterministic scenarios concept. The concept is described in general and one simple scenario is calculated in detail. This scenario concerns shifting of a deck cargo.
Obecnie kryteria oceny stateczności statku nie uszkodzonego oparte są na przepisach wynikających ze statystyki wypadków. Na 45. sesji Podkomitetu ds. Stateczności i Linii Ładunkowych podjęto decyzję o zmianie podejścia IMO do oceny stateczności na podejście uwzględniające zjawiska towarzyszące kołysaniom statków. Niniejszy artykuł przedstawia ideę opracowania kryteriów oceny stateczności na podstawie tzw. "scenariuszy". Opisano ogólne założenia oraz przedstawiono obliczenia dla wybranego scenariusza zakładającego przesunięcie się ładunku na pokładzie.

The angle of heel on account of turning is one of the mandatory stability criteria for passenger ships. Formula used for calculations of this criterion contained in the International Code on Intact Stability [13] is criticized at present. Agendas of the Sub-committee on Ship Design and Construction (SDC) for the first (2014) and the second (2015) sessions contain the item on revision of this criterion and corresponding regulation. The paper presents some shortcomings of the criterion. Turning tests of a freely maneuvering model of a passenger ship have been executed aiming at gathering data for the future discussion and its facilitation. The paper presents results of the tests together with preliminary conclusions that confirm the need of the revision of the regulation and put forward concerns on application of such values as initial metacentric height (GMo) and righting lever curve (GZ(?)) calculated for a ship laying still for calculation of a ship’s heel caused by turn.

This paper presents the properties of the equivalent Thevenin's model of a network as seen from a network receiving node. Such a simplified model can be applied in protective and preventive gear installed at the considered receiving node. Thevenin's circuit can be determined either from of the power system configuration diagram or by use of algorithm based on local current and voltage phas or measurements. Local measurements are used to calculate the derivative of apparent power against the voltage dS/dV. Paper describes the dS/dV algorithm accuracy tests according to the approximate angle of the series system impedance. An important problem of the Thevenin's model updating due to the changing configuration of power system is discussed in the paper. The advantages and disadvanges of both described methods are also presented.
Artykuł przedstawia właściwości modelu Thevenina. Uproszczony model reprezentujący aktualną konfigurację systemu może mieć zastosowanie w automatyce zabezpieczeniowej oraz prewencyjnej montowanej w punkcie odbiorczym. Model Thevenina może być tworzony przy użyciu dwóch metod: korzystając z informacji o pełnej konfiguracji systemu oraz z algorytmu wyliczającego parametry modelu na podstawie pomiarów lokalnych fazorów napięć i prądów. Korzystając z pomiarów lokalnych, wyliczana jest pochodna mocy pozornej po napięciu &S/&V. Przeprowadzono testy dokładności algorytmu dS/dV w zależności od założonego kąta impedancji systemowej. Ważnym problemem, jaki jest poruszony w artykule jest aktualizacja modelu zgodnie ze zmieniającą się konfiguracją systemu elektroenergetycznego. Zmiany mogą być wywoływane zarówno stanami normalnej pracy, jak i awariami występującymi w systemie. Przedstawiono wady i zalety stosowania obu metod.

For diesel oils containing fatty acid methyl esters (FAME), an important problem is their susceptibility to oxidation processes as this shortens the maximum storage time of such fuels and may result in deterioration of oil properties and thus affect the engine operation. One of the fuel ageing processes is the formation and release of resins from the fuel. The physical stability of mixtures may be evaluated by means of a physical stability index, determined with using a Turbiscan analyser [3, 19, 20]. The authors attempted to explore the possibility of using this index for evaluating the changes that take place during the ageing of diesel oil. Additionally, the impact of the presence of selected metals on the fuel ageing process was examined. Within the research, diesel oil samples containing various metals were prepared and subjected to the ageing process. Spectrophotometric tests were also carried out with using a Turbiscan instrument [4, 10, 11]. The samples were subjected to oxidation stability tests before and after the ageing process. The physical stability index and, additionally, the oxidation stability of the samples were examined by accelerated ageing methods.

The aircraft dynamic stability derivatives (DSD) describe the variation of aerodynamics forces and moments with respect to disturbances of kinematic parameters (translational or rotational). Thus, the identification of DSD is an issue of analytical or numerical analysis and experimental researches. Experimental methods use air or water tunnel tests. The investigated model is submitted to forced oscillations with relatively low amplitude, which simulates the disturbances around steady state flight parameters. The variation of forces and moments are measured by strain balance system, which allows identifying DSD. This work is focused on development the methodology of experimental identification the aircraft translational DSD in water tunnel tests. Study of available publications shows that model manipulator system usually provides rotational movements around three axes. Therefore, the measurements can be performed with respect to rotational velocity disturbances. However, by addition the translational manipulator with one degree of freedom the measurements can be expanded into translational velocity disturbances (normal and sideslip). It is necessary to point that axial velocity disturbance is omitted due to lack of axial force component in strain balance construction. The proposed modification does not affect the construction of rotational manipulator or balance. The article contains translational manipulator scheme, modification of data acquisition system and mathematical process of identification the aircraft translational dynamic stability derivatives.

An analysis of floatability and stability of the floating dock- docked ship system is the subject of this paper. These properties are considered for a cubicoid box dock whose dimensions are close ( almost identical) to those of SINE 212 CD dock designed by SINUS design office. The analysis is first of all aimed at determination of the above mentioned hydromechanical properties in the light of the relevant requirements of PRS dealing with minimum freeboard of the dock and its initial metacentric height. It has been concluded that the analyzed dock reveals the designed docking capability which is not constrained by the PRS requirements though the dock in question is fitted with the roofing unfavourable for dock stability. It has been shown that assessing the tranverse stability of the dock as well as of docked ship ( floating object) by means of a stability factor instead of metacentric height, is reasonable. The work was performed within the frame of EUREKA – E! 2968 ECOLOGICAL DOCK research project.

The paper presents sample calculations concerning the assessment of the vulnerability to pure loss of stability of a fishing vessel. Calculations were performed for level 1 and level 2 of the method under consideration. In the summary the author discusses the results of calculations. The paper describes the results method for assessment of the stability criteria for a fishing vessel. Calculations were performed by software MAXSURF after the implementation of the algorithm. The result of the calculation are measure the phenomenon criteria of pure loss of stability of a fishing vessel.

For an arbitrary invariant $ \rho(G) $ of a graph $G$ the $ \rho $-edge stability number $ es_\rho (G) $ is the minimum number of edges of $G$ whose removal results in a graph $ H \subseteq G $ with $ \rho (H) \ne \rho (G) $ or with $ E(H) = \emptyset $. In the first part of this paper we give some general lower and upper bounds for the $ \rho $-edge stability number. In the second part we study the $ \chi^' $-edge stability number of graphs, where $ \chi^' = \chi^' (G) $ is the chromatic index of $G$. We prove some general results for the so-called chromatic edge stability index $ es_{ \chi^′ } (G) $ and determine $ es_{ \chi^′ } (G) $ exactly for specific classes of graphs.

This paper presents the slope stability analysis for the current as well as projected (final) geometry of waste dump Sandstone Open Pit “Osielec”. For the stability analysis six sections were selected. Then, the final geometry of the waste dump was designed and the stability analysis was conducted. On the basis of the analysis results the opportunities to improve the stability of the object were identified. The next issue addressed in the paper was to determine the proportion of the mixture containing mining and processing wastes, for which the waste dump remains stable. Stability calculations were carried out using Janbu method, which belongs to the limit equilibrium methods.

Low voltage microgrids are autonomous subsystems, in which generation, storage and power and electrical energy consumption appear. In the paper the main attention has been paid to the voltage stability issue in low voltage microgrid for different variants of its operation. In the introduction a notion of microgrid has been presented, and also the issue of influence of active and reactive power balance on node voltage level has been described. Then description of voltage stability issue has been presented. The conditions of voltage stability and indicators used to determine voltage stability margin in the microgrid have been described. Description of the low voltage test microgrid, as well as research methodology along with definition of considered variants of its operation have been presented further. The results of exemplary calculations carried out for the daily changes in node load of the active and reactive power, i.e. the voltage and the voltage stability margin indexes in nodes have been presented. Furthermore, the changes of voltage stability margin indexes depending on the variant of the microgrid operation have been presented. Summary and formulation of conclusions related to the issue of voltage stability in microgrids have been included at the end of the paper.

Soil amendment usage can substantially modify soil structural and hydraulic properties, with the aim of improving its water, air and nutrition management along with crop growth. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the physical changes in soil through different plant growing stages caused by biochar addition to silt loam soil. This research focused on changes in structural stability, and macro- and microaggregate stability. The soils were amended with different amounts of biochar (control with 0, BC0.5 with 0.5%, BC2.5 with 2.5%, and BC5.0 with 5.0% biochar, by weight). Capsicum annuum L. were planted at a two-four leaf stage. Soil samples were taken at 6, 10 and 12 weeks after planting. The results showed increasing macroaggregate stability values with increasing biochar addition; however, higher values were also detectable in control treatments over time. Increased microaggregate stability values were observed during the plant maturing phase and the decrease, which occurred during fruit development was more pronounced. The largest microaggregate stability value was observed in the case of BC2.5 among all treatments, which corresponded better to plant growth rather than to the amount of added biochar. It was also found that the laser diffraction method is a suitable alternative technique to the sieve-pipette method for analysing biochar and biochar-amended soil particle size distribution and structure.

In the paper the problems of practical stability and asymptotic stability of fractional discrete-time linear systems are addressed. Necessary and sufficient conditions for practical stability and for asymptotic stability are established. The conditions are given in terms of eigenvalues of the state matrix of the system. In particular, it is shown that (similarly as in the case of fractional continuous-time linear systems) in the complex plane exists such a region, that location of all eigenvalues of the state matrix in this region is necessary and sufficient for asymptotic stability. The parametric description of boundary of this region is given. Moreover, it is shown that Schur stability of the state matrix (all eigenvalues have absolute values less than 1) is not necessary nor sufficient for asymptotic stability of the fractional discrete-time system. The considerations are illustrated by numerical examples.

This study is devoted to the optimal design of compressed columns with a circular cross section under axial compressive forces and exposed to a corrosive environment. The initial volume of the structure is taken as an optimality parameter. The main constraint is the buckling of a loaded column at the final time of its operation. Gutman-Zaynullin’s exponential stress corrosion model is adopted for the analysis. Analytical and numerical results are derived for optimal variation of the cross-sectional area of the bar along its axis.

A property P defined on all graphs of order n is said to be k-stable if for any graph of order n that does not satisfy P, the fact that uv is not an edge of G and that G + uv satisfies P implies $d_G(u) + d_G(v) < k$. Every property is (2n-3)-stable and every k-stable property is (k+1)-stable. We denote by s(P) the smallest integer k such that P is k-stable and call it the stability of P. This number usually depends on n and is at most 2n-3. A graph of order n is said to be pancyclic if it contains cycles of all lengths from 3 to n. We show that the stability s(P) for the graph property "G is pancyclic" satisfies max(⎡6n/5]⎤-5, n+t) ≤ s(P) ≤ max(⎡4n/3]⎤-2,n+t), where t = 2⎡(n+1)/2]⎤-(n+1).

The paper is devoted to the problem of robust stability of positive linear discrete-time systems with delays in the case of structured perturbations of state matrices. Simple new necessary and sufficient conditions for robust stability in the general case and in the case of system with linear uncertainty structure are established for two sub-cases: 1) unity rank uncertainty structure, 2) non-negative perturbation matrices. It is shown that robust stability of the positive discrete-time linear system with delays is equivalent to: 1) robust stability of the corresponding positive system without delays of the same order as time-delay system - in the general case, 2) asymptotic stability of finite family of the positive vertex systems without delays - in the case of a linear unity rank uncertainty structure, 3) asymptotic stability of only one positive vertex system without delays - in the case of a linear uncertainty structure with non-negative perturbation matrices.

The purpose of the paper is to create a method for studying nonlocal stability in the mean and in the mean square of the ship, positioned on the beam of an intensive wind–waves mode, which is based on the use of the correlation theory of random functions close to continuous Markov processes. With the help of this method and the integral formula of event probability, a method for determining the reliability indicator of the ship in respect of the existing wind–waves excitations of the operating area is formed. An example of investigating the nonlinear motion of the ship, determining its local and nonlocal stability in the first approximation of the theory of considered random functions, is given. Such approximation uses correlation theory with models of acting excitations represented by the generalised derivatives of the Wiener process. Moreover, special attention is paid to reflecting the connection of the proposed methods for investigating the ship stability under constantly acting random excitations with the traditional methods of studying ship stability at small and large inclinations. The established connection defines the proposed methods as a development of the traditional methods of ship stability deterministic theory during the transition to its formation in the class of random functions, with the addition to these methods of the missing link of determining the level of reliability of ships towards the acting wind–waves excitations of the operation area.

Research background: Commercial banks could affect the stability of the whole banking system due to the way they carry out their business activities. The supervision authorities play a key role in protecting banking stability by ensuring banks´ resilience to shocks, ability to recover their position in response to crisis and ultimately the supervision authorities help prevent failure of these banks. Therefore, in recent years' researchers have been trying to define conditions that could guarantee stability of banks. Purpose of the article: This paper aims to describe the methodology used to measure banking stability, namely banking stability index (BSI) and Z-score. In the first part, we present the literature review, then we try to assess the stability in the condition of the Czech Republic and Slovakia during the period 2006-2016. Methods: The BSI is constructed according to the methodology presented by Ghosh (2011), taking into account the main components, which are described by the set of financial indicators of banks. Findings & Value added: Results showed that the average BSI in the whole sample moved from 0.20454 (in 2015) to 0.2486 (in 2007). The results according to countries have showed that the tendency of development in the Czech and Slovak banking sector was the same. At the beginning of the analyzed period, the Slovak banks were more stable compared to Czech ones. Since 2009 the situation has been different, where the Czech banks could be considered as more stable compared to Slovak ones. The tendency of development of Z-score in both countries could be considered as the same, without the 2009 year, when the Czech banks significantly strengthened their capitalization, which influenced the development of Z-score. The results of correlation analysis between Z-score and BSI pointed to the fact that there was no high correlation between these two measures, therefore it is appropriate to use both methodologies for stability evaluation.

High voltage direct current (HVDC) emergency control can significantly improve the transient stability of an AC/DC interconnected power grid, and is an important measure to reduce the amount of generator and load shedding when the system fails. For the AC/DC interconnected power grid, according to the location of failure, disturbances can be classified into two categories: 1) interconnected system tie-line faults, which will cause the power unbalance at both ends of the AC system, as a result of the generator rotor acceleration at the sending-end grid and the generator rotor deceleration at the receiving-end grid; 2) AC system internal faults, due to the isolation effect of the DC system, only the rotor of the generator in the disturbed area changes, which has little impact on the other end of the grid. In view of the above two different locations of disturbance, auxiliary power and frequency combination control as well as a switch strategy, are proposed in this paper. A four-machine two-area transmission system and a multi-machine AC/DC parallel transmission system were built on the PSCAD platform. The simulation results verify the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy.

In this paper, we consider the convex combination of polynomials. We provide a necessary and sufficient condition for Hurwitz stability of the convex combination of m real polynomials (m ≥ 3) whose degrees may be different and both necessary, and necessary and sufficient conditions for Hurwitz and Schur stability of the convex combination of two complex polynomials. We show also that the convex combination of two polynomials whose degrees are respectively odd and even, is never Schur stable. We give a few examples completing the results.

The research was conducted on samples of water in Kielce from two intakes: Białogon and Zagnańsk. The results of selected indicators for these waters were presented, among others, the most important ones influencing its chemical stability i.e. calcium or magnesium. Then, using the PHREEQC program, stability indices were calculated for water in Kielce from the two shots in question. In the next stage, the correctness of the water test method was checked by means of a program through the ionic balance of the water and comparison of pH of the water determined with the value determined by calculation. For the above mentioned activities, tables and calculations were prepared on the basis of which appropriate conclusions were made.
Badania przeprowadzono na próbkach wody w Kielcach pochodzące z dwóch ujęć: Białogon i Zagnańsk. Przedstawiono wyniki wybranych wskaźników dla tych wód, m.in. najważniejszych wpływających na ich stabilność chemiczną, tj. wapnia lub magnezu. Następnie, za pomocą programu PHREEQC, obliczono wskaźniki stabilności dla wód w Kielcach z dwóch ujęć, o których mowa. W kolejnym etapie sprawdzono poprawność metody badania wody za pomocą programu poprzez bilans jonowy wody i porównanie pH wyznaczonej wody z wartością wyznaczoną w wyniku obliczeń. Dla wyżej wymienionych czynności przygotowano tabele i obliczenia, na podstawie których wyciągnięto odpowiednie wnioski.

The use of the Q-slope value is a relatively new approach for the stability investigations of rock slopes. In this study, four different slopes in Giresun and Ordu cities of Turkey were investigated to assess whether the Q-slope approach is usable for varying slope heights, or not. A back analysis was carried out for a landslide in a case study quarry located in Kovanlik municipality of Giresun city. Carrying out detailed investigations on the geotechnical drill cores and the field studies, the Q-slope value of the rock mass of the Kovanlik quarry was determined as 0.58. According to the Q-slope approach, the slope which had a landslide under the case of 49° general slope angle and 225 m height should have been stable at a general slope angle of 59°. It has been found that the Q-slope approach is not favorable for a high slope with the height of 225 m. Two roadway excavations with steep slope angles and low heights smaller than 25 m were also investigated within this study. According to the Q-slope value, the roadway slopes which are stable for more than 3 years are estimated to be unstable. Therefore, the Q-slope approach was found also misleading for slopes with low heights like those under 25 m. On the other hand, the Q-slope method usability is confirmed obtaining parallel results with the observations from another case study slope with a height of 78 m. Although it has become a popular empirical method in the recent years, it is recommended to revise the Q-slope approach or limit its use depending on the slope height parameter.

In substantiation of the parameters of stable open pit slopes of complicated-structure deposits it is necessary to take into account a number of natural and anthropogenic conditions of the open pit side masses, such as: lithological heterogenity, plicative and disjunctive tectonic broken state, rocks laminated structure, form of the open pit side, hydro-geological conditions of the deposit development, the mining-transport equipment loading effect, etc. In the article there is suggested a solution of this problem consisting in the improving of numerical-analytical method of professor P.S. Shpakov, whose advantage is the accounting if stresses acting on the elementary ground based on integrated effect of all the acting factors. The essence of the solution con-sists in the following: with a unified algorithm of realization (numerical solu-tion, iteration method) every time there is built a new analytical formula of the limit equilibrium corresponding to the concrete mining-technical and mining-geological conditions permitting to establish the mechanism of the possible de-forming of open pit slopes.

Dynamic characteristics of the vibration screening machinery is influenced by synchronization between induction motors. Therefore, estimating the synchronous state between the motors is a crucial process for designing the vibration screening machinery. In this paper, two rotors excited with paralleled and counterrotating motors in a far resonance system are concerned. To master the synchronization of the system, the dynamic model is firstly established; then, the synchronous condition of the system is derived with the Poincar´e method; subsequently, the synchronous stability of the system is discussed by the Hamilton principle; finally, some computation simulations are implemented to verify correctness of theoretical analysis. The research result shows that the system actuated by rotors of the identical mass is planar motion as the stable phase difference between the rotors is stabilized in the zero phase. The system actuated by nonequivalent mass rotors exhibits spatial motion as the stable phase difference stabilizes in a nonzero phase.

The aim of the paper is twofold. First, governing equations for medium thickness elastic plates which have a periodically non-homogeneous structure in one direction (uniperiodic) and subjected to initial in-plane stresses are derived. In order to obtain the aforementioned equations, the tolerance averaging technique is applied. This technique leads to equations with constant coefficients. Second, the above equations are applied to analysis of certain stabiliry and dynamic problems. The stiffnesses of plates were calculated by treating them as structurally anisotrpic. An interesting results is that two values of the critical force can be obtained. This results can have a physical meaning for the stability of plates under compression in one direction and tension in the perpendicular direction.
Celem pracy jest rozszerzenie i pewne uogólnienie dwuwymiarowego modelu średniej grubości (typu Reissnera) sprężystych płyt o jednokierunkowej strukturze periodycznej zaproponowanego przez Barona (2000). Zastosowano metodę uśredniania tolerancyjnego opisanego np. przez Woźniaka i Wierzbickiego (2000). Metoda ta pozwala uwzględnić wpływ wymiaru powtarzalnego segmentu płyty (okresu powtarzalności) na jej makromechaniczne własności, czyli tzw. efekt skali. Uzyskane ogólne równania przekształcono do postaci dogodnej do analizy płyt technicznie anizotropowych. Przeprowadzono analizę zagadnienia drgań swobodnych oraz stateczności płyt stalowo-betonowych stosowanych w budownictwie. Uzyskano dodatkową relację do obliczania sił krytycznych.

A thin-walled spherical shell is pivoted at both edges. One of the edges may rotate around the shell axis. Moreover, it is loaded with a torque. The problem of shell stability is considered. The system of equations characterizing the problem consists of a non-linear equation of equilibrium and non-linear compatibility equation. Both equations are solved with Bubnov-Galerkin's method, assuming beforehand the form of deflection and force-functions. As a result of the solution, an algebraic equation is obtained, with respect to a dimensionless load parameter. The critical load parameter corresponding to the minimal critical load value is determined from this equation. The number m at which the load parameter has the minimum value determines the mode of stability loss. The paper is supplied with a numerical example.
Cienkościenna powłoka kulista jest podparta przegubowo na obu brzegach. Jeden z brzegów ma możliwość obrotu wokół osi powłoki; do tego brzegu przyłożony jest moment obrotowy.Rozpatruje się zagadnieniestateczności powłoki. Układ równań zagadnienia tworzą nieliniowe równanie równowagi oraz nieliniowe równanie nierozdzielności. Oba równania rozwiązuje się metodą Bubnowa-Galerkina, przyjmując uprzednio postać funkcji ugięcia i funkcji sił. Efektem rozwiązania jest równanie algebraiczne na bezwymiarowy parametr obciążenia. Z tego równania wyznacza się parametr obciążenia krytycznego, odpowiadający minimalnej jego wartości. Liczba m, przy której parametr obciążenia osiąga minimum wyznacza postać utraty stateczności. Praca kończy się przykładem liczbowym.

Stability problems concerning the functional equations of the form f(2x + y) = 4ƒ(x) + ƒ(y) + ƒ(x + y) - ƒ(x - y), and ƒ(2x + y) + ƒ(2x -y) = 8ƒ(x) + 2ƒ(y) are investigated. We prove that if the norm of the difference between the LHS and the RHS of one of equations (1) or (2), calculated for a function g is say, dominated by a function φ in two variables having some standard properties then there exists a unique solution ƒ of this equation and the norm of the difference between g and ƒ is controlled by a function depending on φ.

The paper presents the results of structural and magnetic properties and thermal stability for a group of functional materials based on Fe61Co10Zr2.5Hf2.5Me2W2B20 (where Me = Mo, Nb, Ni or Y). Samples were obtained in the form of ribbons using melt-spinning method. The X-ray diffraction patterns of investigated samples confirmed their amorphous structure. Based on the analysis of DSC curves characteristic temperatures: glass forming temperature (Tg), crystallization temperature (Tx) and temperature range of the supercooled liquid ΔTx were determined. Small addition of transition metals elements has strong influence on magnetic and thermal parameters of studied materials. The comprehensive studies revealed that in terms of magnetic properties the Ni-addition resulted in highest reduction in coercivity and anisotropy field.
