The object of social work are both the individuals and social groups (families or more extended communities). Depending on which groups of people require help, social work arouses various requirements which from the point of view of the social workers’ education create the need for specialisation. One can distinguish several specific groups of the clients of social work: children, the old age people (gerontological nursing), ill and disabled individuals and local communities. Special problems and challenges appear when a child is its object. It happens that because in the case of children separating interim help or long-term financial assistance from the pedagogic influence is impossible, and thus from responsibility for charges’ future. Social workers do not bear full responsibility for the state of child’s future, because they share this responsibility with different subjects, it does not mean, however, that they do not bear it at all. One can distinguish two extreme positions among the theoreticians of social work: according to one of them, represented among others by H. Radlińska, social welfare institutions totally take over the responsibility for the child’s future, what is connected with the limitation of freedom, and according to the latter, such a responsibility, in practice, is not possible.

Social service agencies are an important factor in a person’s life, which is based on changes in health status, insufficient to meet their needs or other difficult life circumstances is forced to use them. It turns caring for allowing a decent live his life. But not every recipient of social services to be able to accept this fact and often its adaptive capacity is not enough to ensure that the situation in the resettlement agency was tolerable for him. Then he was forced to accept the help and service professionals, including social workers, help perceivers social services using appropriate methods, techniques, methods to overcome this period without any negative consequences.

Within the last quarter of the century social sciences have been witnessing a quiet methodological revolution. The noticed expansion of interpretative approaches and the growing popularity of quality research may be perceived as a form of academic rebellion against the omnipotent scientistic doctrine with its guaranteed monopoly for setting methodological standards. The movement of quality researchers, particularly in its radical and critical version, undermines a thesis that recognised methodological standards reflect universal rules of the cognitive reason. In this approach the methods of science are a collection of conventions negotiated within reserachers’ communities and social and cultural provenance.

Identity as a theoretical concept in social sciences has evolved from a status of derivative importance into an essential and autonomous notion performing at present an important role that explains some processes of the contemporary world. According to Renata Dopierała, generally identity can be defined as a reflective attitude of an individual to himself, created by the necessity of self-characteristic building a system of ideas, opinions, convictions, etc., that corresponds with the given social context. However, the answer to the question: What is identity?, is not so obvious as some can expect. The relationship between identity, interests, preferences, and loyalty is also not so clear. Shortly speaking, identity can be also perceived as a self-conception rooted in the society, our attitude and relation to others. Its integral parts are two main components: individual and social.

This article will present some forecasts and postulates regarding the development of social pedagogy in the near future. Social pedagogy is both a theoretical and practical discipline, so if we reflect on its future, then we should discuss these two aspects separately. Obviously, working on the development of theories in disciplines such as social pedagogy makes sense only on the condition that these theories can be then implemented in practice, but it must be also borne in mind that the possibility of influencing the practice by the theory (e.g. social policy or social work) depends on a number of factors on which social pedagogy has no factual impact. Hence, in the context of a discussion on the future of social pedagogy, the distinction between theory and practical needs as well as possibilities of its implementation seems very much justified, because there is always the possibility that an intense development of theory might not be accompanied by equally intense activities in the area of practice.

A Focus group interview (FGI), the focused group, focus groups or just focus are the definitionsof data collection techniques which, after several decades of development, have become an important part of research plans in social sciences. Placing the focus on communication techniques leads us to combine analyses consisting of interview and observation. It also raises the question whether the focus, which by definitioncombines and directly expresses the strengths and weaknesses of communication techniques and the strengths and weaknesses of observation techniques, allows achieving some kind of methodological synergy. In addition, the essence of measurement in science and – more closely – in social sciences seems to be an important context for the empirical functioning of the focus and for researchers preferring this technique of data collection.

Opis:
Rationality, intersubjectivity, and objectivity have been conceived as primary epistemological categories from the begining of modern epoch. They characterize knowledge or subjects of knowledge, or even their activity - cognition. Epistemocentrism - in P. Bourdieu view typical to modern thinking - and supporting it epistemological fundamentalism are nothing else but limitation of the meaning of these categories. In the bygone times, epistemocentrism was useful, but now is a simply anachronism in the face of modern roles of knowledge in societies and in the face of growing progress of social sciences. Today, science and its contribution in the social worlds are not the same as once. Therefore, the need arises for revision of epistemocentrism as well as for the fulfillment of the 'epistemological gap' which emerged from collapse of epistemological fundamentalism. I think that there is a room for the new 'philosophical partition of reality' emancipated from Cartesian despotism of ego cogito and recovering intuitional insights in the social life of the ancient thinkers as Aristotle. In the paper, I concentrate on thesis that epistemocentrism is an epistemological obstacle in the social sciences and source of their crises.

In the article, the likely directions of cooperation between economists and sociologists are explored. Such an endeavour requires a thorough discussion concerning ontological and epistemological issues. Establishing such cooperation is not an easy task, yet it is feasible, provided that the common part of the social system and the society, that is people playing various economic, social and political roles, is the subject of interest for scholars associated with the both fields. Furthermore, investigating the problems that have not yet been tackled by either economics or sociology seems to be another direction for future interdisciplinary research.

The presented study aims at increasing positive attitude of students as good citizens through the integration of character education in social studies with CTL approach. This research was classroom action research and the subjects of this research were 38 fifth-grade pupils of Elementary School SD Negeri 07 Panreng Sinjai. The study involved collaborators that were fifth-grade teachers who acted as the implementing action. Data were obtained through a test scale of attitude as the main data and supporting data were collected through observation and self-report. The research showed some findings. First, the integration of character education in teaching social studies is conducted by instilling the values of character education in learning with the social studies content and applying some of the components in the CTL. Second, there is continuous improvement of the integration of character education in social studies with the CTL approach from the first cycle to the third cycle. Based on the results of attitude tests on the citizenship subject in the first cycle, there was no student classified as very positive (0%), 44.73% of students were classified as positive, 39.47% negative, and 15.76% very negative. In the second cycle, there were 23.68% of students classified as very positive, 44.73% positive, 26.31% negative, and 5.26% very negative. In the third cycle, there were 18.42% of students classified as very positive, 78.94% positive, 2.63% negative and 0% very negative. Thus, the integrated character education in social studies can improve the attitude of a good citizen in fifth-grade pupils of SD Negeri 07 Panreng Sinjai.

In this paper I will try to look to the past in the present as the possible future of social science. My argument proceeds in the first section to explore a genealogy of social science as planning the future. The planning to design people is visible in the long nineteenth century. This planning to design the child, the family and community joins utopian narratives in the planning associated with the social sciences, linking human agency to effect change with spaces of collective belonging given in the names of democracy, the common good and the nation. The scenario of design in contemporary research is taken up in the second section. The final section turns to a different notion of practice as an alternative practical science, that is, a history of the present. The future of the social sciences as argued is one that takes the present and asks about the conditions that historically make possible what is seen, acted on, talked about and felt. The argument, however, is not against planning but to explore the limits of contemporary orthodoxies.

The subject of the paper is the status and relationships of geography, especially human geography, with the social sciences on the background of the evolution of science from multidisciplinary to transdisciplinary. Progressive hybridization of disciplines and specialties upset the identity of geography in modern science, but geography (human geography), as she was, so it is hardly accepted as a social science among scientists. An important role is played by the traditional assignment of the entire geography to natural sciences and greater isolation of human geography in flows of knowledge within the social sciences. The article presents the specificities of the social sciences in the classification of the sciences, the impact of social sciences on past development of geography and contemporary impact of geography on spatial turn in the social sciences.

On the basis of such a conception of Cultural Science he proposes the concept of Kulturkomparatistik, which goes beyond its conventional philological meaning and enables comparative research outside of Linguistics and Literary Studies. Based on the OECD classification of the Revised Fields of Science and Technology, the author prepares taxonomy of Social Sciences and Culture, which can be compared with each other in two or more countries. The author points out the importance of cultural comparison for raising students’ awareness for the “Other” and the experience of “Foreignness”, for the development of attitudes of tolerance and empathy, as well as the applicability of the results in the social and political practice in each country.

A Persistent Vitality of the “fala”. A Rough Sketch of the Theoriacl Frame from the Perspective of Social Sciences This article is an introduction to an alternative, interdisciplinary view over the problem of the vitality of the so-called a fala – a geolect used in the Xálima valley (Cáceres province, Spain), by the Portuguese border, quite well-known in the Iberian studies. The existent literature concerning the problem is based mainly on the historical material and is not capable of fully explaining its maintenance mechanism in the today’s world. In the author’s opinion, it is necessary to take into consideration, on the one hand, the role played by a fala in the society and, on the other hand, the geolect’s specific, phonetic properties, which – as it is supposed – are sufficiently salient from the perceptual point of view so as to activate the Xálima inhabitants’ different identity processes (hypothetical non-belonging features) and, in consequence, protect the geolect from the standardization. The article outlines the most promising research direction and presents some useful theoretical tools associated with the problem’s social facet explaining the way of its application to the nonbelonging features (the holistic vision of the self and its identity included in G. Breakwell’s Identity Process Theory and in the Stets and Burke’s general theory of the self).

Opis:
Developed within literary studies, the narrative theory is helping to understand relations between an author, features of a narrative text, its contents, cultural meanings, and perception. Modern narratology stems from the research of formalists (e.g. V. Propp), structural theory of literature (M. Bakhtin, Y. Lotman), and blossomed due to structuralism and semiology (R. Barthes, T. Todorov, A. Greimas et al.) – to become in the second half of XX century one of the main tools for explaining the communication strategy of a man – storytelling. A narrative is a commonplace to determine the dynamic elements of our experience, and as such is a fundamental category of perception. It is the core of the art of literature, interpretative journalism, but also makes the spine of political marketing (spinning political events and visions). This text tries to describe the basic methodological assumptions of narratology in order to make it suitable for political communication analysis.

The author shortly presents a new paradigm of social research on multiculturality as called the postcolonial indigenous paradigm. He bases in this presentation on the book by Bagele Chilisa, professor at the University of Botswana who is researcher represented this paradigm and author of methodological monograph under the title Indigenous research methodologies (2012). Postcolonial indigenous paradigm is synergy and transgression of three known paradigms in social sciences as means: critical theory, constructive, and participative ones. The author asks for possibility of using postcolonial indigenous paradigm in social research on multiculturality in Poland. His answer to this question is an exemplification of research project concerning problems of the Roma education in Polish schools. He proposes looking for new political concepts and practical solutions of problems of multiculturality with regards to ideas of postcolonial indigenous paradigm.
