Opis:
The phenomenon of private loans, in line with the financial seekers seeking financial help, is often criminal activity based on obligatory debtors’ positions. The disproportionate benefit imposed on borrowers related to their involuntary position is theoretically their choice, and in practice often the only way to meet basic needs. The research goal of the work is a criminological analysis of the phenomenon of usury, which will certainly allow a deeper understanding of the causes of this prohibited act and the grounds that become arguments for criminal activity. Practical evaluation of the possibility of using art. 304 kk will allow you to answer the question about the effectiveness of this regulation. It is also worth considering the thesis: is there a possibility of amending the provision allowing to increase its function entrusted to it in the Penal Code? Demands of de lege ferenda, this is a reflection on the possibility of sealing the legal system, allowing us to fight the crime of usury more efficiently

Opis:
Obecnie stosowaną w bankach komercyjnych metodą identyfikacji i kwantyfikacji ryzyka kredytowego pojedynczej transakcji kredytowej jest metoda punktowa stanowiąca podstawę systemów credit scoring. Rozwój metod scoringowych umożliwiony został poprzez zaimplementowanie do działalności kredytowej banków osiągnięć wiedzy statystycznej oraz technologii informatycznych. Pełniejsze wykorzystanie tych technologii prowadzące do obniżenia kosztów bankowych procedur i skrócenia okresu prowadzonej oceny kredytobiorcy związane jest z rozwojem zautomatyzowanych metod dyskryminacyjnych decyzji kredytowych w procesie zarządzania ryzykiem w banku komercyjnym.
The currently applied at commercial banks method of identification and quantification of the credit risk of a single credit transaction is the scoring method being the base for credit scoring systems. The development of scoring methods has been enabled through implementation to banks’ credit activities of achievements of statistical knowledge and information technologies. The fuller use of these technologies, leading to reduction of costs of banking procedures and reduction of the time-period of borrower scoring is connected with the development of automatized methods of discrimination credit decisions in the process of risk management at the commercial bank. The key issue is precise quantification and carrying out measurement of the credit risk in terms of portfolio as well as related to a single credit transaction. In the second case, the currently applied standard of determining of the acceptable level of credit risk at commercial banks is the credit scoring method. Amplifying thereof is an important factor of the process of improvement of credit risk management and is usually implemented irrespective of economic condition in the borrower’s environment and the current credit policy implemented by the lender.

Early repayment and default are two basic perils causing credit termination. Who of the borrowers and when are at the risk of both events is important information for the creditor. The article employs some of the estimators of the method of competing risks to model time to default or early repayment. The empirical part of the article consists of the results of the study on the sample of 5000 five-year loans that were observed for 24 months. Probabilities of default and early repayment have been evaluated by means of selected estimators. These estimators are also suitable for distinguishing borrowers with different risks of default.
Ryzyko niewypłacalności i ryzyko przedwczesnej spłaty to dwa podstawowe zdarzenia powodujące przerwanie umowy kredytowej.

Opis:
In the paper the optimal design of forecasting contracts in principal-agent setting is investigated. It is assumed that the principal pays the agent (the forecaster) based on an announced forecast and an event that materializes next. Such a contract is called incentive compatible if the agent maximizes her payoff when she announces her true beliefs. This paper relaxes the assumption present in earlier works on this subject that agent’s beliefs are deterministic by allowing them to be random (i.e. stemming from estimation). It is shown that for binary or nominal events the principal can learn only expected values of agent’s predictions in an incentive compatible way independent of agent’s signal space. Additionally it is proven that incentive compatible payment schemes give the agent a strictly positive incentive to improve the precision of her estimates.

Opis:
Granting a credit product has always been at the heart of banking. Simultaneously, banks are obligated to assess the borrower’s credit risk. Apart from creditworthiness, to grant a credit product, banks are using credit scoring more and more often. Scoring models, which are an essential part of credit scoring, are being developed in order to select those clients who will repay their debt. For lenders, high effectiveness of selection based on the scoring model is the primary attribute, so it is crucial to gauge its statistical quality. Several textbooks regarding assessing statistical quality of scoring models are available, there is however no full consistency between names and definitions of particular measures. In this article, the most common statistical measures for assessing quality of scoring models, such as the pseudo Gini index, Kolmogorov‑Smirnov statistic, and concentration curve are reviewed and their statistical characteristics are discussed. Furthermore, the author proposes the application of the well‑known distribution similarity index as a measure of discriminatory power of scoring models. The author also attempts to standardise names and formulas for particular measures in order to finally contrast them in a comparative analysis of credit scoring models.

The aim of the study was to elaborate a new scoring system of chosen elements in performance test of Polish Konik horse. In the analysis, 42 horses were included. Test scores of two approaches were statistically elaborated: of the system in force and obtained on the basis of new intervals divided according to their mean values and SD. Multifactorial analysis of variance and T-Tukey test were performed. Low variation of individual performance test scores suggests a necessity for modification of the score system in force. The necessity also results from the change of score level in effect of using the new scoring system. The method of estimating the following traits is particularly controversial: behaviour, step length in walk, return of breath frequency to standard and effort test which belong to elements usually maximally scored. In consequence, they do not function as selection criteria.

Opis:
The problem considered in this article involves the construction of evaluation model, which could subsequently be used in the field of modeling and risk management. The research work is finalized by a construction of a new model on the basis of observations of the models used for risk management and knowledge of information theory, machine learning and artificial neural networks. The developed tools are trained online, using their ability for automatic deduction rules based on data, during model application for evaluation tasks. The model, consequently changes the data analysis stage, limits the scope of the necessary expertise in the area, where the assessment model can be used and, to some extent, the shape of the model becomes independent from the current range of available data. These features increase its ability to generalize and to cope with the data of previously undefined classes, as well as improve its resistance to gaps occurring in the data. Performance of the model presented in this paper is tested and verified on the basis of real-life data, which would resemble a potentially real practical application. Preliminary tests performed within the scope of this work indicate that the developed model can form a starting point for further research as some of the used mechanisms have a fairly high efficiency and flexibility.

Monitoring of surgical outcome is increasingly important part of governance of surgical activity. The aim of the study. POSSUM scoring system was applied prospectively to determine how it performed in predicting morbidity and mortality in patients undergoing emergency laparotomy in our hospital, a group known to be at high risk of complications and death. Material and methods. A total of 100 cases of emergency laparotomies were studied in patients admitted in general surgery department during the period of May 2008 to August 2010. The study group consisted of the following cases. Duodenal perforation (37 cases), intestinal obstruction (27 cases), gastric perforation (8 cases), ileal perforation (8 cases), appendicular perforation (7 cases), blunt trauma (4 cases) and others (9 cases). They were scored using POSSUM scoring system. Physiological scoring was done at the time of admission and operative scoring was done intraoperatively. They were followed up for the first 30 day post operative period for any complications and the outcome was noted. The observed morbidity and mortality rates were compared with the POSSUM predicted morbidity and mortality rates. Results. 15 patients died (mortality rate of 15%). The POSSUM predicted mortality was 20 deaths. O:E ratio of 0.71 was obtained. There was no statistically significant difference between the observed and predicted mortality rates (χ2=1.72, p=0.974). 71 patients experienced complications. The POSSUM predicted morbidity was 61 patients. O:E ratio of 1.19 was obtained. There was no statistically significant difference between the observed and predicted morbidity rates (χ2=1.594, p=0.991). Conclusions. POSSUM scoring is an accurate predictor of mortality and morbidity following emergency laparotomy and is a valid means of assessing adequacy of care provided to the patient. POSSUM can be used for surgical audit to assess and improve the quality of surgical care and helps in better outcome to the patient

The task of identifying the most relevant features for a credit-scoring application is a challenging task. Reducing the number of redundant and unwanted features is an inevitable task for improving the performance of a credit-scoring model. The wrapper approach is usually used in credit-scoring applications to identify the most relevant features. However, this approach suffers from the issue of subset generation and the use of a single classifier as an evaluation function. The problem here is that each classifier may give different results that can be interpreted differently. Hence, we propose an ensemble wrapper featureselection model in this study that is based on a multi-classifier combination. In the first stage, we address the problem of subset generation by minimizing the search space through a customized heuristic. Then, a multi-classifier wrapper evaluation is applied using two-classifier-arrangement approaches in order to select a set of mutually approved sets of relevant features. The proposed method was evaluated on four credit datasets and has shown good performance as compared to individual classifier results.

Opis:
Banking is a financial institution that has a very important role in economic and trade activities which is useful for channeling funds in the form of loans to the public who need fresh funds for business in the hope of helping to improve the people's economy. In the loan process, banks are often exposed to risks known as credit risk or non-performing loans. Therefore, a credit analysis is performed by estimating the parameters using LU Decomposition in the Logistic Regression model. In this paper, the data used are data about cooperative financial services in Indonesia. Accurate diagnosis of acute appendicitis (AA) is still a problem and is not always easy, even for experienced surgeons. Studies have shown that 20 to 30% of the appendices removedwere normal. Therefore, various scoring systems have been developed to aid in the diagnosis of doubtful cases and reduce the number of unnecessary appendectomies. The aim of this study was to assess the diagnostic value of different scoring systems in acute appendicitis. Material and methods. The study involved 94 patients who underwent laparotomy due to suspected acute appendicitis. Medical examination at hospital admission was performed by a resident and a general surgery specialist. The probability of AA was evaluated using six different scoring systems: Alvarado, Fenyo, Eskelinen, Ohman, Tzankis, and RIPASA. The resident calculated the results in individual systems. The decision to perform the operation was taken by a specialist surgeon who did not know the results. Results. Normal appendix was removed in 26% of cases. Eskelinen, RIPASA and Alvarado systems showed highest sensitivity (99%, 88% and 85%, respectively). Tzankis and Fenyo systems showed highest specificity (62% and 50%, respectively). Conclusions. Our study has shown limited value of scoring systems for the diagnosis of acute appendicitis. The systems may improve diagnostic accuracy as they require obtaining a more detailed medical history, and making a more thorough and organized data analysis. However, the scoring systems should be treated only as an aid to diagnosis

In previous research, the Extended Order Scale (EOS) dedicated to risk assessment was analysed. It was characterised by a Numerical Order Scale (NOS) evaluated by trapezoidal oriented fuzzy numbers (TrOFNs). However, the research showed that EOS with two-stage orientation phases, was too complicated. Therefore, the main aim of our paper is to simplify a Complete Order Scale (COS) to a zero- or one-stage order scale and a hybrid approach. For this purpose, a way to calculate the scoring function is presented. The results show that changes in the COS structure influence the values of a scoring function. Replacing just one linguistic indicator gives different results. Another finding of the research is the method’s flexibility that allows an expert to individually choose the most suitable COS. The research proves that the boundary between various linguistic labels cannot be precisely defined. However, knowledge of a formal COS structure allows it to be transformed into a less complex one.

Objectives This study aims to test the validity of the IPD-Work Consortium approach for creating comparable job strain groups between the Job Content Questionnaire (JCQ) and the Demand-Control Questionnaire (DCQ). Material and Methods A random population sample (N = 682) of all middle-aged Malmö males and females was given a questionnaire with the 14-item JCQ and 11-item DCQ for the job control and job demands. The JCQ job control and job demands scores were calculated in 3 different ways: using the 14-item JCQ standard scale formulas (method 1); dropping 3 job control items and using the 11-item JCQ standard scale formulas with additional scale weights (method 2); and the approach of the IPD Group (method 3), dropping 3 job control items, but using the simple 11-item summation-based scale formulas. The high job strain was defined as a combination of high demands and low control. Results Between the 2 questionnaires, false negatives for the high job strain were much greater than false positives (37–49% vs. 7–13%). When the method 3 was applied, the sensitivity of the JCQ for the high job strain against the DCQ was lowest (0.51 vs. 0.60–0.63 when the methods 1 and 2 were applied), although the specificity was highest (0.93 vs. 0.87–0.89 when the methods 1 and 2 were applied). The prevalence of the high job strain with the JCQ (the method 3 was applied) was considerably lower (4–7%) than with the JCQ (the methods 1 and 2 were applied) and the DCQ. The number of congruent cases for the high job strain between the 2 questionnaires was smallest when the method 3 was applied. Conclusions The IPD-Work Consortium approach showed 2 major weaknesses to be used for epidemiological studies on the high job strain and health outcomes as compared to the standard JCQ methods: the greater misclassification of the high job strain and lower prevalence of the high job strain.

Opis:
Background: Evidence-based medicine (EBM) has brought a substantial change in medical practice. Strengthening the Reporting of Observational Studies in Epidemiology (STORBE) guidelines do not have a method to assign quality score to observational study publications which might lead to differences in assessing quality of publication. A scoring method can provide quantitative estimates that could improve quality of reporting, eventual conduct of observational studies and can lead to more transparent judgements about the quality of evidence. Objectives:To develop a quantitative scoring method for STROBE checklist and to design a rating scale in order to categorize epidemiological study publications into excellent, good, fair, poor quality based on the overall scores. Methods:STROBE-M (STROBE Modified) checklist was developed by dividing composite STROBE items into multiple items for ease of comprehension and scoring. For each item, we decided to have 3 quality scores option i.e. 0 (not fulfilled), 1 (fulfilled) and NA (not applicable). STROBE-M adherence scoring method was developed to assign quality scores to study publications. Results: Cross sectional studies had 40% good and 60% fair; case control studies had 7% good and 93% excellent; cohort studies had 100% study publications with excellent grade as per STROBE-M scoring. Cross sectional studies had overall fair STROBE-M adherence grade while case control studies and cohort studies had excellent grade. Conclusion: This study highlighted deficiencies in the reporting of observational studies. Based on our experience, the STROBE-M checklist seems to be a useful tool for assessing the reporting quality of the observational studies.

Since 2015, the Social Credit System - an initiative of the government of the People’s Republic of China which aims to strengthen trustworthiness of the business entities and citizens, promote obedience to law and customs, and develop the Communist Party of China’s control over social trends and potential threats to the political stability - has been attracting worldwide attention. International media portrays the System as a mechanism which leads China to totalitarianism and destroys hope for development of the Chinese democratic movement. Therefore, interests of both sides, the West and China, are seen as contradictory. Harmful beliefs like the one that Chinese still export products of poor quality and on the Chinese side that the Western ideals lead to demoralization are common thanks to some sort of Occidental and Oriental propaganda. That is why it is necessary to compile and analyze the known facts regarding the Social Credit System, which in contrast to the media narration turns out to be a tool with interesting capabilities, not necessarily contradictory to the other major civilizations’ values.

The article presents the basic techniques of data mining implemented in typical commercial software. They were used to assess the risk of credit card debt repayment. The article assesses the quality of classification models derived from data mining techniques and compares their results with the traditional approach using a logit model to assess credit risk. It turns out that data mining models provide similar accuracy of classification compared to the logit model, but they require much less work and facilitate the automation of the process of building scoring models.

Opis:
The assessment of physiological parameters of the innocent subjects in the SPOT in the presented cases has its limits, while a comparison of these parameters with the charts of the perpetrators causes doubts as to the methodological soundness (lack of a sufficient number of cases). There are as many as four reasons hindering the assessment. First of all, the number of presented charts of the innocent subjects is small; they are practically isolated cases and with tests featuring mainly names (given names, pseudonyms). Secondly, I did not repeat the SPOT if it did not cause any reaction and at the same time the preliminary assessment of the CQT charts was positive for the subjects. Th is makes it impossible to compare physiological parameters of the subject in at least two SPOT charts in order to assess the evolution of the emotional activation. The parameters recorded during a SPOT were compared with the fi rst CQT chart, but this article does not present them. Another problem results from the fact that the category of the ‘innocent’ includes the charts of two subjects (the witness of the behaviour of the possible perpetrator after the murder and the instigator of a murder). I included them in the groups of the ‘innocent’ only because the version before the examination assumed that they were the murderers, while their reactions to the control questions in the CQT were greater than those to the fundamental relevant question (‘Did you do it?’). As I mentioned above, physiological parameters of the two men in the consecutive CQT charts hinted at intensifi cation of emotions and the subjects themselves also displayed external manifestations of emotions. In principle, their charts should be presented in the group of ‘the perpetrators’. Although the manifestations of emotions were distinct, their assessment was subjective – and it cannot be verifi ed. Both subjects interfered with the examination: one refused to have his blood pressure and pulse recorded and the other interrupted the examination. This behaviour is typical for ‘the perpetrators’. Both subjects were involved in the cases, but not in the way the investigators had originally assumed. Let me add here that this is my opinion and it has not been backed by legal decisions. Physiological parameters of the innocent subjects presented in the SPOT charts can only be assessed visually, because the Lafayette polygraphs which I used did not record them digitally. A visual assessment is not precise and to great extent subjective. Only one parameter – the pulse rate – lends itself to digital assessment, but with the reservations mentioned above.

Opis:
In port engineering in the vicinity of quays, the action of the ship's propulsion is a prime eroding element. This may cause scouring of the bottom of port water area and erosion so great that it could lead to ąuay damage by change of its stability. Thus, the speed of ship's water jet is important criterion of navigational safety assessment. Scouring of an unprotected bottom depends on the type of manoeuvres (ship's settings and their duration), area depth and type of bottom. As the number of cruise ships, irregularly calling at ports, has increased recently, there is often a need to accept such ships for berthing along quays with an unprotected bottom. Bottom protection is a costly investment, far from profitable when callings are not frequent. The situation when a ship gives up its own propulsion during berthing and unberthing and has to use tugs is not profitable for ship operators. As a result, ships may resign from calling at such ports. For this reason it is purposeful to make a navigational analysis [1] of ship manoeuvring near the ąuay and to assess the effect of water jet on the bottom. This paper examines large ships manoeuvres during berthing. The study focuses on analytical methods for assessing ship 's affect on the port bottom. The paper presents some problems on possible manoeuvres of cruise ships with own propulsion along the Bulwar Chrobrego Quay in the port of Szczecin.

The purpose of this study was to generate more concise rule extraction from the Recursive- Rule Extraction (Re-RX) algorithm by replacing the C4.5 program currently employed in Re-RX with the J48graft algorithm. Experiments were subsequently conducted to determine rules for six different two-class mixed datasets having discrete and continuous attributes and to compare the resulting accuracy, comprehensibility and conciseness. When working with the CARD1, CARD2, CARD3, German, Bene1 and Bene2 datasets, Re-RX with J48graft provided more concise rules than the original Re-RX algorithm. The use of Re-RX with J48graft resulted in 43.2%, 37% and 21% reductions in rules in the case of the German, Bene1 and Bene2 datasets compared to Re-RX. Furthermore, the Re-RX with J48graft showed 8.87% better accuracy than the Re-RX algorithm for the German dataset. These results confirm that the application of Re-RX in conjunction with J48graft has the capacity to facilitate migration from existing data systems toward new concise analytic systems and Big Data.

Preferential information may be visualized in many different ways, and this constitutes an important issue in the principal- agent decision-making context, e.g., in representative negotiations. In the INSPIRE negotiation support system, the principal’s preferences are visualized by circles with different radii. Agents evaluate the principal’s preferences in such a manner that they digitize these preferences using numbers directly proportional to the size of the circles, drawn by the principal. The manner, in which an agent understands the concept of the circle size is unknown. The main goal of this paper is to propose such an image of principal’s preferences, which is independent of an individual agent’s evaluation. Individual negotiators may differ in their understanding of this concept. This means that the notion of “circle size” is a linguistic variable that may be described by a fuzzy set. The empirical studies referred to show that the size of the circle is a value between the radius and the area of this circle. In this paper, the principal’s preferences are defined as a fuzzy preorder between fuzzy “circle sizes”. We distinguish here two kinds of the INSPIRE method. All considerations are illustrated by means of a short case study based on INSPIRE data.

The MCDA technique has been extensively and successfully applied for supporting decision making in negotiation processes. The mostly used techniques SAW, AHP or TOPSIS are based on direct preference information which requires from negotiator a clear and precise definition all the parameters of the preference model (e.g. issue weights, option rates, aspiration and reservation values etc.), so those techniques can be successfully applied in well-structured negotiation problems. But, many real negotiation problems are illstructured, that means that the negotiation space is imprecisely defined, and the negotiator’s preferences the vagueness or imperfect. The main purpose of this paper is to investigate the potentials and the applicability the UTA method, one of the techniques based on indirect preference information, in evaluation of negotiation offers, especially in ill-structured negotiation problems. The UTA (Jacquet-Lagreze and Siskos, 1978, 1982, 2001) is a multicriteria decision making method which is based on the linear programming model for inferring additive utility functions from a set of representative decision data. The example is also presented to elaborate and demonstrate the holistic judgment and the usefulness UTA approach for evaluation negotiation offers.

Credit granting is a fundamental question and one of the most complex tasks that every credit institution is faced with. Typically, credit scoring databases are often large and characterized by redundant and irrelevant features. An effective classification model will objectively help managers instead of intuitive experience. This study proposes an approach for building a credit scoring model based on the combination of heteroscedastic extension (Loog, Duin, 2002) of classical Fisher Linear Discriminant Analysis (Fisher, 1936, Krzyśko, 1990) and a feature selection algorithm that retains sufficient information for classification purpose. We have tested five feature subset selection algorithms: two filters and three wrappers. To evaluate the accuracy of the proposed credit scoring model and to compare it with the existing approaches we have used the German credit data set from the study (Chen, Li, 2010). The results of our study suggest that the proposed hybrid approach is an effective and promising method for building credit scoring models.

This paper described the main idea of the MACBETH approach and M-MACBETH software to multicriteria negotiation analysis. The MACBETH is based on the additive value model and requires only qualitative judgments about differences of attractiveness to help a decision maker quantify the relative value of options or criteria. The main goal of this procedure is to support interactive learning about evaluation problems and to provide the recommendations to select and rankordering options/criteria in decision making processes. We proposed to use MACBETH methodology as well M-MACBETH software to support ill-structure negotiation problems, i e. evaluation of negotiation offers in an environment with uncertain, subjective and imprecise information and not precisely defined decision makers preferences. An numerical example showing how M-MACBETH software can be implemented in practice, in order to help a negotiator to define numerical values of options/criteria based on verbal statements and next build a scoring system negotiation offers taking into account different types of issues in negotiation problems is presented. More detail we describe the main key points of M-MACBETH software related to structuring the negotiation model, building value scales for evaluation negotiation packages, weighting negotiation issues and selected elements of sensitivity analyzes.

In the European Union, the United States and other countries of the so-called Western world, the perception of the functionalities of AI, and other instruments of Industrial Revolution 4.0 significantly differs from its perception by the PRC’s authorities, which – for a few years – have been implementing solutions aimed at comprehensive scrutiny and social supervision rather than facilitating life and work. This idea has been reflected in the so-called Social Credit System since at least 2014 and has given rise to plenty of controversies and disputes, unfortunately based on emotions and imprecise interpretation of the characteristics, aims, and implementation of the project rather than knowledge. While the new, digital model of social management in China is extensively discussed in the literature, it is rarely addressed in Polish studies, which results in the scarcity of publications on this subject. This paper attempts to fill this gap by presenting the essence of the system and the progress of its implementation.

Opis:
Aim/purpose – The main aim of this paper is to analyse and compare implementation of two methods of websites assessment: the conversion method and the scoring method. The secondary goal is to identify the best e-banking websites in Poland in 2017 from the point of view of an individual client. Design/methodology/approach – Based on the previous experiences in internet banking sphere authors take into account two methods – the most popular for this purpose – the scoring method and the author’s conversion method. Data for research are collected using original questionnaire, verified by a pilot study. To participate in the survey, those interested had to visit a special website containing a questionnaire. The research was carried out on over 700 people from the university environment in the end of 2017. Findings – The results obtained with both methods turned out to be similar. The study found that an economic criteria, a simplicity or an intuitiveness of navigating the website and a number of access channels are the most important factors for choosing the e-banking services by customers. Moreover, anti-crisis measures undertaken by bank (security of operations including) currently become of less importance to them. Research implications/limitations – The main implication for researchers is the proved possibility for using the conversion method, which combines the advantages of simplicity of the gathering data with the objectivity of such methods as, for example, AHP/ANP, or PROMETHEE, ELECTRE and its usefulness for the evaluation of the bank websites. The main restrictions were of two types. The first one concerned the selection of only those two methods for comparison in this study. The second limitation – was the selection of a research sample from the academic community only. Originality/value/contribution – The scope of this paper fills in the research gap that exists in the methods of website evaluation from the point of view of methods trying to solve this problem from a client’s point of view. The next research steps will go in the direction of comparison based on the same sample of the conversion method with other popular assessment methods to identify its advantages and disadvantages for the potential user. Furthermore, a research sample now requires extension beyond the academic community that the results of the study could be fully generalised.

Opis:
Theoretical background: Value investing is one of the most popular investing approaches. In their frame, there could be a high B/M investing strategy identified. F-Score, developed by Piotroski, is a scoring model applied to the sample of high B/M entities. Its purpose is to select companies with strong financial foundations and buy their shares for the investment portfolio to generate positive market-adjusted returns in the following periods. The effectiveness of this model was mostly empirically confirmed, especially regarding developed markets. Purpose of the article: The main aim of the paper was to build F-Score-like models based on the data from the Polish stock market. The main hypothesis concerned the higher effectiveness of such models than F-Score, as the specificity of a given market should result in a better fit to the data. Research methods: Building of the models based on the discriminant analysis and formation of the investment portfolios based on the indications of these models as well as F-Score. Finally, backtesting of the portfolios built to assess their effectiveness. The sample covered most of the Polish-listed companies. The period taken into account was 2012–2022. Main findings: Models built (X-Score and Y-Score) were less efficient than F-Score. Moreover, they led to generating negative rates of return (both raw and market-adjusted). On the other hand, using of F-Score for the analyzed period seems to be purposeful due to the 1.35% mean annual market-adjusted return generated. Apart from the scoring models analyzed, the research partially confirmed the advisability of using a high B/M investing strategy. Generally, the results obtained are in line with the findings of most of other authors –regarding the F-Score effectiveness. However, an approach based on Mohanram’s idea – using the differences between absolute values of a given variable and median from the sample – proved to be inadequate in the Polish stock market.

Opis:
A clue for the research have become analysis made by A. Feruś in 2006, In which the author points the possibility of extending classical scoring models with the DEA method, allowing to predict a credit risk. In 2006, in the era of the Basel II implementation, the possibility of such an extension was not reflected in the practice of banks in Poland. But now, as a part of the Basel III implementation, it is reasonable to consider the possibility of their expantion, for example using the DEA . The study was carried out on the basis of 139 companies operating in Poland in 2010-2011 data and a comparison with their actual condition in 2012. Survey results both for 2010 and 2011 indicate a weaker prediction of the scoring models alone than scoring models with DEA In terms of: correct customers classification and the value of a R2 determination factor.

Opis:
The use of an Analytic Hierarchy Approach (AHP) for scoring offers in continuous negotiation problems has been studied. AHP has already proven its usefulness in constructing a ranking of alternatives in discrete decision making problems. In negotiations, however, some issues may have a quantitative character and be defined by feasible ranges, which results in uncountably large sets of feasible offers. This is a problem to which AHP cannot be applied in its original form. Therefore we propose an approach to building a scoring system that operates within AHP and a predefined discrete subset of feasible alternatives, then a method for determining global scores for all the feasible alternatives is proposed. When this subset has been built, the notion of border alternatives is applied. Assuming that these border alternatives have been ranked, single-issue utility functions are constructed using linear interpolation over the set of selected border alternatives. Single-issue utility functions are then aggregated using issue weights in order to form the final utility function. The issue weights are also determined using AHP. Such an approach means that a relatively small number of comparisons are required for a negotiator in AHP process to build a comprehensive scoring system, which makes the process of eliciting the negotiator’s preferences simple and rapid.

Rozwój technologii informatycznych i ich integracja z działalnością banków w procesie przetwarzania, gromadzenia i transmisji danych doprowadziła do prób zautomatyzowania procesu oceny zdolności kredytowej potencjalnego kredytobiorcy. Celem niniejszej publikacji jest przybliżenie Czytelnikowi problematyki stosowanej w bankach metody punktowej i credit scoringw kontekście zarządzania ryzykiem kredytowym.

The current standard of credit portfolio segmentation is the score method being the basis of the credit scoring systems. It consists in assignment of a definite number of scores to the quantified measures characterising the borrower’s standing. Each applied in the bank methodology of client’s credit rating, including also the credit scoring method, serves reduction of the bank’s risk stemming from credit transation implementation. The development of information technologies and their integration with banks’ activities in the process of data processing, collecting and transmitting have led to attempts to automatise the process of credit rating of the potential borrower. An aim of the present publication is to bring closer to the Reader the issues of the applied in banks score method and credit scoring in the context of credit risk management.

Analizie poddano punktację i współafiliacje czasopism do pedagogiki i najbliżej współpracujących z nią dyscyplin, tj. psychologii i nauk socjologicznych.
One of the basic instruments of science evaluation are journal rankings, which determine the value of publications affiliated with scientific disciplines. The change in evaluation conditions introduced in Poland by the "Constitution for Science" reform sets new conditions not only for the evaluation of journals and published works. This change also allows for the observation of the relationships among scientific disciplines. This article presents the results of a study that used data from the first version of the ministerial list of ranked journals published in 2019. The ranking and co-affiliation of journals for pedagogy and the related disciplines, i.e. psychology and sociological sciences, were analyzed. The results indicate the similarity of the journal rank distributions, and  differences in the structure of journal affiliation with the discipline and sharing this affiliation.

The aim of the article is to compare models on a train and validation sample, which will be created using logistic regression and Support Vector Machine (SVM) and will be used to assess the credit risk of non-financial enterprises. When creating models, the variables will be subjected to the transformation of the Weight of Evidence (WoE), the number of potential predictions will be reduced based on the Information Value (IV) statistics. The quality of the models will be assessed according to the most popular criteria such as GINI statistics, Kolmogorov-Smirnov (K-S) and Area Under Receiver Operating Characteristic (AUROC). Based on the results, it was found that there are significant differences between the logistic regression model of discriminatory character and the SVM for the model sample. In the case of a validation sample, logistic regression has the best prognostic capability. These analyses can be used to reduce the risk of negative effects on the financial sector.

This paper presents two cases of random banking data generators based on migration matrices and scoring rules. The banking data generator is a breakthrough in researches aimed at finding a method to compare various credit scoring techniques. These data are very useful for various analyses to understand the complexity of banking processes in a better way and are also of use for students and their researches. Another application can be in the case of small samples, e.g. when historical data are too fresh or are connected with the processing of a small number of exposures. In these cases a data generator can extend a sample to an adequate size for advanced analysis. The influence of one cyclic macro-economic variable on client characteristics and their stability over time is analyzed. Some stimulating conclusions for crisis behavior are presented, namely that if a crisis is impacted by both factors: application and behavioral, then it is very difficult to clearly indicate these factors in a typical scoring analysis and the crisis becomes widespread in every kind of risk report.

Liberalization on the electricity market in Poland is related to the possibility of free choice of electricity supplier. On a liberalized market, suppliers have to compete to gain new customers and retain the old ones. The suppliers have to satisfy the customers’ needs − which are more and more complex − and customize their approach. Therefore, negotiations of electricity sale conditions become an usual practice. The purpose of this study is to propose a way of supporting the negotiation process of electricity sale conditions between a supplier and a customer. To solve this problem, the scoring method has been used.

Określenie wpływu nowego rodzaju oleju smarowego (np. ekologicznego) czy nowego sposobu modyfikacji powierzchni zęba (np. poprzez naniesienie cienkiej, twardej powłoki niskotarciowej) na trwałość kół zębatych jest możliwe jedynie poprzez zastosowanie badań eksperymentalnych. W tym celu w Zakładzie Tribologii ITeE – PIB w Radomiu opracowano urządzenie T-12UF do badania tarcia i zużycia kół zębatych walcowych w układzie mocy krążącej.
Finding the effect of a new type of a lubricating oil (e.g. ecological one) or a new way of the tooth flank modification (e.g. by deposition of a thin, low-friction coating) on the life of gears is possible only experimentally. For that purpose, at the Tribology Department of the Institute for Sustainable Technologies in Radom (ITeE – PIB), a new test rig, denoted as T-12UF, has been developed. It is intended for the back-to-back testing of the friction and wear of spur gears. Three dangerous forms of wear can be tested: scuffing/scoring, pitting, and micro pitting. In the paper, a modified version of the T-12UF test rig is presented, namely the test rig denoted as T-12UM. For the purpose of implementation in a lab of one of the domestic technical universities, the new test rig needed to be validated using reference oils having extremely different extreme-pressure (EP) properties – oils called “Low” and “High.” Two gear scuffing test methods were used. Four reference oils (two of every “Low” and “High”) for each test method were employed. During the validation, the authors checked if it is possible to identify the appearance of scuffing/scoring by monitoring the friction torque. The obtained results of the validation are as expected, which indicates that the new test rig runs properly and the scuffing test methods are realised correctly.

Opis:
When we talk about the Neapolitan school, we usually mean the composers of opera and vocal music, although multicoloured instrumental works were also developing in Naples. Knowledge of these is poor, even among those researching this centre of music. The subject of this article is thus the Neapolitan instrumental work for various types of chamber and orchestral ensembles created over a period of 100 years, starting from the 1690s. Neapolitan performing practices differed from those known in other European centres. Despite practising the same genres (sonata, concerto, symphony), Neapolitan composers displayed different preferences for the scoring of music. Regardless of the genre, they were fond of an ensemble consisting of three or four violins and a bass voice. They avoided use of the viola: less frequently, they used the violin as a solo instrument, but more preferably flutes, a cello, a mandolin and keyboards. It was not the type of scoring of music in Naples that determined the choice of genre (sonata, concerto or symphony), but rather the texture and form. The musical genre also had no influence on whether the piece would be performed by chamber or orchestral ensemble.

Opis:
Background. The main objective of the study was to determine the hierarchy of significance of selected criteria of goal scoring skills which influenced the success of play of selected soccer teams in one of the qualification groups of the UEFA European U-21 Championship. Another objective was to assess the goal scoring skills of the Poland national U-21 team compared to their direct rivals. Material and methods. Analysis of 5 national teams constituting Group 7 in the qualifying tournament was based on the data available on the website uefa.com/under21. The analysed variables included such criteria as general shooting activity, the number of successful shots and the success rate of all shots. In the comparison of the teams one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and post-hoc Tukey’s multiple comparison test were applied. Results and conclusions. The analysis indicated that the shooting activity influenced the effectiveness of play of the soccer teams only in selected cases and that it influenced the effectiveness and success rate in the case of teams extremely different in terms of their sports level. The Poland U-21 team mostly did not differ from their rivals in terms of goal scoring skills.

Opis:
DNA fragmentation by single strand breaks (SSBs) or double strand breaks (DSBs) is major concern in genotoxicity research. DNA damages can be easily known through comet assay or single cell gel electrophoresis (SCGE). Since decades, scoring through software for DNA damages in images have been developed by researchers. These softwares depend upon manual scoring on individual comet in a particular interface. The evaluation under software may have biasness and error during scoring by each researcher and few softwares are unable to access easily because many of these are commercial products. However, CellProfiler (CP) image analysis software (Version 2.1.0) is free, easy operation, faster and automated screening by computer itself. An attempt was made to detect DNA damages mainly comet scoring through CP software as whole comet, comet head and comet tail from image of previously studied single cell gel electrophoresis (SCGE) in the peripheral erythrocytes of fish exposed to benzene as experimental image. The results particularly on length and area of whole comet, head and tail were obtained after automated analysis in the CP software. The image processing study was done of the objects present in fluorescence microscopy image to know maximum DNA damage at each cell level for the fish erythrocytes. It was concluded that the present study of image based screening for DNA damages as details of comet and its head and tail evaluation by shape and area in the fish erythrocytes can be a suitable tool for genotoxicity prediction along with risk assessment at DNA level. The shape descriptor as Zernike moments order 0 to 9 can also be suitable parameters to know accuracy of the shape of comet and its head and tail in the image. Finally, high-throughput automated screening of comet test can help in disease diagnosis and repair mechanisms as well as environmental monitoring of genotoxin(s) within short period of time.
