The aim of this article is to identify the main challenges facing the rural areas in the European Union (EU) and to investigate whether implementation of the concept of smart villages makes it possible to face these challenges. These challenges are: depopulation, aging of the society, climate change, growing demand for food, environmental degradation, peripheralization or low income of rural populations, pandemic COVID-19. The first part describes the situation in rural areas, using statistical data from the reports of the European Commission and Eurostat. Then the roots of the concept of smart villages in the European Union were presented. Its six components have been identified: smart society, smart economy, smart agriculture, smart management, smart environment and smart associability. In the last part, it was checked whether the implementation of the concept of smart villages responds to the main challenges faced by rural areas.
Celem niniejszego artykułu była identyfikacja głównych wyzwań stojących przed obszarami wiejskimi w Unii Europejskiej (UE) oraz zbadanie, czy realizacja koncepcji smart villages umożliwi sprostanie tym wyzwaniom. Do tych wyzwań zaliczamy: depopulację, starzenie się społeczeństwa, zmiany klimatyczne, rosnący popyt na żywność, degradacja środowiska, peryferyzacja, czy niskie dochody populacji wiejskich oraz pandemię COVID-19. W pierwszej części dokonano charakterystyki sytuacji na obszarach wiejskich, wykorzystując dane statystyczne pochodzące m.in. z raportów KE i Eurostatu. Następnie zaprezentowano korzenie koncepcji smart villages w Unii Europejskiej. Wyszczególniono sześć jej komponentów: smart society, smart economy, smart agriculture, smart management, smart environment and smart associability. W ostatniej części sprawdzono, czy wdrożenie koncepcji smart village odpowiada na główne wyzwania stojące przed obszarami wiejskimi.

Pojęcie smart city jest obecnie jednym z bardziej popularnych i chwytliwych haseł związanych z procesem rozwoju tkanki miejskiej. Zjawisko to, pomimo iż dotyczy procesów będących przedmiotem zainteresowań architekta/ urbanisty, wykracza poza obszar jego kompetencji. Jest ono przejawem inteligentnej rzeczywistości opartej na cyfrowych sieciach i zachodzących w nich interakcjach. Jej pojawienie się zostało przewidziane pod koniec lat 80. przez dwie koncepcje: wszechobecnego przetwarzania danych i Internetu Rzeczy/Internetu Wszechrzeczy. Infrastruktura inteligentnego miasta czy budynku nie jest kolejną „branżą” uczestniczącą w procesie projektowym. To szerokie innowacyjne spojrzenie, narzędzie, które oddziałuje wszechstronnie na różne aspekty struktury miasta, także społeczne. Cyfrowa rzeczywistość w postaci sieci urządzeń, czujników i aplikacji powiązanych z Internetem stanowi inteligentną przestrzeń, które wpływa na nasze życie i równocześnie umożliwia wpływ na kształtowanie zmian w realnym świecie.
Nowadays, the term ‘smart city’ is one of the most popular and catchy phrases concerning the process of development of the urban tissue. Despite the fact that this phenomenon refers to processes which fall into the scope of interests of an architect / an urban planner, it goes beyond the competence of these professions. It is a manifest of smart reality based on digital networks and interactions that happen within them. Its occurrence was predicted in late 1980s by two concepts: the concept of ubiquitous computing, and the concept of the Internet of Things / Internet of Everything. Infrastructure of an intelligent city or building is not yet another ‘specialty’ taken into account in the course of designing. It is a broad, innovative approach, a tool which exerts a comprehensive influence on different aspects of the urban structure, including the social ones. Digital reality, manifested in networks of devices, sensors, and applications connected to the Internet, constitutes a smart space, which influences our lives, and simultaneously enables us to influence changes in the real world.

Smart world is planned as an epoch in which objects (e.g., watches, mobile phones, computers, cars, buses and trains) can immediately and intelligently serve people in a coefficient manner. Internet of things links up everything in the smart world. Internet of things allows objects to be sensed and controlled remotely across exiting network infrastructure, creating opportunities for more-direct integration between the physical world and computer – based systems, and resulting in improved efficiency, accuracy and economic benefits. Each thing is exclusively different through its embedded computing system but is able to interoperate within the surviving internet infrastructure. Today’s earth encloses a smart reminder that the internet of things can be made green- and green technology can be maximized with smart use of IoT. IoT implement the collection of data at finer levels of details, and deeper analysis of that data, business and individuals can drive bigger results from smaller changes to their immediate environment. Internet of things is that things can correspond to each other without human with each other and helps to save energy with user. This permits peoples and things to be connected Anytime, Anyplace, with anything and anyone, ideally using any path/network and any service. Green IoT forecast to familiarize changes in our daily life and would help realizing the vision of “Green ambient intelligence”.

The number of smart cities is constantly growing. Mayors invest in new technologies and justify the expenses regarding the residents’ needs. Considering only this one criterion, not all expenses can be justified. Is the life of people better in smart cities? What are the solutions most often implemented? What problems do we have in cities in Poland? Are residents smart? Is smart city not just a new marketing strategy for the city? Is it worth investing in new technologies in the city? What are the conseqences of these quick changes? The article is an attempt to answer the above mentioned questions.

Operatorzy sieci dystrybucyjnych wprowadzają obecnie inteligentne systemy pomiaru zużycia energii w gospodarstwach domowych. Tym samym możliwe staje się zdalne odczytywanie parametrów miernika energii oraz automatyczne generowanie bilingu. Proces ten znajduje się we wczesnej fazie rozwoju. Obserwuje się stale rosnące zapotrzebowanie na usługi energetyczne, co stwarza potrzebę modernizacji i rozszerzenia funkcjonalności sieci elektroenergetycznych. W artykule przedstawiono zagadnienia dotyczące możliwości rozwoju inteligentnych sieci pomiarowych w Polsce. Wskazano zakres prac przeprowadzonych przez autorów w ramach projektu Big Data for Energy Sector – BigDES. Przybliżona została charakterystyka inteligentnych sieci Smart Grid. Na wybranych przykładach dokonano analizy możliwości wykorzystania inteligentnego opomiarowania systemu elektroenergetycznego. Przybliżono możliwości stosowania inteligentnych liczników energii elektrycznej – smart meters. W ramach zagadnienia kolejno badano zjawiska: precyzji pomiaru, dobowego zużycia energii elektrycznej w gospodarstwie domowym, opomiarowania stref gospodarstwa domowego oraz stosunku czasu pracy urządzeń do ceny energii elektrycznej. Zwrócono uwagę, że systemy inteligentne są w stanie ułatwić operatorom zarządzanie siecią elektroenergetyczną, a także dostarczyć wielu informacji odbiorcom końcowym. Zakończenie artykułu stanowi podsumowanie przeprowadzonych w ramach projektu prac.
Distribution network operators are currently rolling out intelligent systems for measuring energy consumption in households. Therefore, it becomes possible to remotely read meter parameters of energy and automatically generate billing. This process is currently in the early stages of development. There has been a growing demand for energy services, which creates the need to modernize and extend the functions of Polish power grid. The article presents issues concerning the possibility of smart metering network development in Poland indicated the scope of the data carried out by the authors as part of Big Data for Energy Sector – BigDES project. Authors provided approximate characterization of intelligent Smart Grid and analysis of the possibilities of using smart metering power system. Brought closer the possibility of applying smart meters. Some of Smart Grid features have been studied in- the precision of the measurement, the daily electricity consumption in the household, household metering zones and the ratio of the working time of equipment for the price of electricity. It was pointed out that intelligent systems are able to facilitate the management of the electricity network operators, as well as provide a variety of information to end users. The end of the article is a summary of the project works.

The fast growth in the population density in urban areas demands more facilities and resources. To meet the needs of city development, the use of Internet of Things (IoT) devices and the smart systems is the very quick and valuable source. However, thousands of IoT devices are interconnecting and communicating with each other over the Internet results in generating a huge amount of data, termed as Big Data. To integrate IoT services and processing Big Data in an efficient way aimed at smart city is a challenging task. Therefore, in this paper, we proposed a system for smart city development based on IoT using Big Data Analytics. We use sensors deployment including smart home sensors, vehicular networking, weather and water sensors, smart parking sensor, and surveillance objects, etc. initially a four-tier architecture is proposed, which includes 1) Bottom Tier: which is responsible for IoT sources, data generations, and collections 2) Intermediate Tier-1: That is responsible for all type of communication between sensors, relays, base stations, the internet, etc. 3) Intermediate Tier 2: it is responsible for data management and processing using Hadoop framework, and 4) Top tier: it is responsible for application and usage of the data analysis and results generated. The collected data from all smart system is processed at real-time to achieve smart cities using Hadoop with Spark, VoltDB, Storm or S4. We use existing datasets by various researchers including smart homes, smart parking weather, pollution, and vehicle for analysis and testing. All the datasets are replayed to test the real-time efficiency of the system. Finally, we evaluated the system by efficiency in term of throughput and processing time. The results show that the proposed system is scalable and efficient.

Purpose: The article subject concerns the research problem of the role of hyper-personalization in the evolution of the company’s relationship with customers. The article aims to identify the potential of hyper-personalization as a CRM tool in a smart organization and find research gaps and areas for further research. Design/methodology/approach: The paper is based on a critical literature review within the field of management and marketing theory and represents the relational approach. The literature review was made as an exploratory study. Findings: Based on the results of that theoretical research and utilizing a relational approach, the article presents the Customer Relationship Management during the technology evolution The theoretical findings indicate a research gap: using hyper-personalization and digital technology for achieving the Customer Relationship Management aims is a highly topical issue and still little penetrated by researchers. Research limitations/implications: The findings and conclusions contained in the article require another step in the scientific process, namely empirical verification. Originality/value: A value of this paper is the fact that it shows the contemporary research directions for the Customer Relationship Management concept in the digital and smart world and combines these with the theoretical and practical frameworks as well.
Cel: tematyka artykułu dotyczy problemu badawczego, jakim jest rola hiperpersonalizacji w ewolucji relacji przedsiębiorstwa z klientami. Celem artykułu jest zidentyfikowanie potencjału hiperpersonalizacji jako narzędzia CRM w organizacji smart oraz określenie luk badawczych i obszarów dalszych badań. Metodologia: artykuł opiera się na krytycznym przeglądzie literatury z zakresu teorii zarządzania oraz marketingu i reprezentuje podejście relacyjne. Przegląd literatury został wykonany jako badanie eksploracyjne. Wyniki: na podstawie badań teoretycznych i wykorzystanego podejścia relacyjnego w artykule przedstawiono zarządzanie relacjami z klientem na tle ewolucji technologicznej. Wyniki rozpoznań teoretycznych wskazują na lukę badawczą polegającą na tym, że wykorzystanie hiperpersonalizacji i technologii cyfrowej do realizacji celów zarządzania relacjami z klientem jest to bardzo aktualny temat i wciąż mało penetrowany przez badaczy. Ograniczenia/implikacje badawcze: zawarte w artykule ustalenia i wnioski wymagają kolejnego kroku w procesie naukowym, jakim jest przeprowadzenie weryfikacji empirycznej. Oryginalność/wartość: wartością tego artykułu jest ukazanie współczesnych kierunków badawczych w ramach koncepcji zarządzania relacjami z klientem w cyfrowym i inteligentnym świecie oraz połączenie ich z ramami teoretycznymi i praktycznymi.

Waste management is a challenging problem for most of the countries. The current waste segregation and the collection method are not efficient and cost-effective. In this paper, a prototype is presented for smart waste management. It is also capable of waste segregation at the ground level and providing real-time data to the administrator. Impact and cost analysis of the deployment of smartbin is also presented considering one ward of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation. It is clear from that deployment of this smartbin will save about 40% of the current expenditure for that ward.

W artykule przedstawiono dotychczasowy przebieg realizacji oraz planowane w najbliższym czasie działania, związane z pilotażowym wdrożeniem sieci inteligentnej Smart Grid przez ENERGA-OPERATOR SA, w ramach projektu „Inteligentny Półwysep”. W zrealizowanych dotychczas trzech etapach prac przygotowawczych i analizach przeprowadzono szczegółową inwentaryzację sieci SN i nn objętej projektem, opracowano koncepcję realizacji projektu, opracowano algorytmy sterowania siecią Smart Grid oraz przeprowadzono symulacyjne badania modelowe tych algorytmów. Podsumowaniem prac przygotowawczych było opracowanie studium wykonalności projektu. Do wdrożenia przewidziano funkcjonalności oraz eksperymentalną realizację pracy wyspowej z udziałem EC Władysławowo, a także wdrożenie w ENERGA-OBRÓT SA sterowania poborem mocy przez odbiorców w programach DSM/DR.
The article presents the current progress and activities planned in the near future in the implementation of The Smart Peninsula, ENERGA-OPERATOR SA ‘s pilot Smart Grid deployment project. In the three stages of the preparatory work and analysis so far completed a detailed inventory has bee n made of the MV and LV grids covered by the project, a project implementation concept has been developed, as well algorithms of the Smart Grid control, and the algorithms’ simulation model tests have been completed. The preparatory works have been summarised by a project feasibility study. The functionalities and experimental implementation of an island operation involving the EV Władysławowo cogeneration plant have been selected for the deployment, as well as the implementation at ENERGA-TRADE SA of electric vehicle charging power consumption control in DSM/DR programmes.

Sensor interfaces should provide an output signal that can be read out by a microcontroller. This paper shows, that besides digital output signals also time-modulated signals are suited to be read out by microcontrollers. It is shown, that the attractive features of time-modulated signals concern the simplicity of the circuits and the flexibility of the signal processing. It is shown that precision interface chips can be implemented with low-cost CMOS technology. To make the interface chips universal, specific physical problems for typical applications and measurements have been taken into account. Interface chips in which dedicated measurement techniques have been applied, including autocalibration, two-port measurement and advanced chopping, can be very users friendly. Moreover, these techniques enable selective detection of the measurand with a high immunity for parasitic effects of the sensing elements, and for the effects of the connecting wires. As case studies, interface systems have been presented for capacitive sensors, resistive-bridge sensors.

It is based on ICT exploitation in six key areas, i.e.: economy, transport and communication, city governance, environment governance, people’s living space and quality of living. Development of innovative technologies, including video intelligence, creates wide opportunities to convert individual cities and agglomerations into intelligent, safe and sustainable places of living from the social, economic and environmental perspective. The issue of video intelligence systems will be the subject matter of the paper. It will also present the possibilities of complex implementation of the systems into the key areas of smart cities.

The smart grid is a concept for the development of power distribution grids that offers great promise for the realization of the ambitious objectives of European Energy Policy. In its Third Energy Liberalization Package, European energy law has introduced the concept of intelligent grids and intelligent metering systems. A new directive of EPBD (energy performance of buildings) is to press ahead with this trend. At the same time work is underway at the European Commission and with European Regulators concerning standardization and the new shape of regulatory policy in the implementation stage. The EU legislation and regulatory policy of the National Regulatory Authorities will have to take into consideration the current trends in the modernization of the networks. Among other things, this means revising the existing regulatory model, and that will have to take into account the performance and output of industry networks.
Smart Grid est le concept du développement des réseaux de la distribution de l’électricité, qui donne la chance de réaliser des objectifs de grande importance de la perspective des Politiques Européennes de l’Énergie. Le droit européen de l’énergie a introduit, dans son troisième paquet de libéralisation, le concept des réseaux intelligents et des systèmes de compteurs intelligents. La nouvelle directive sur la performance énergétique des bâtiments (EPBD) constitue une continuation de cette tendance. Au même temps, les travaux des la Commission Européenne et des Régulateurs Européens concernant la standardisation et la nouvelle forme des politiques de régulation, sont réalisés. La législation de l’UE et la politique de régulation des autorités réglementaires, doivent prendre en considération les tendances contemporaines de la modernisation des réseaux. Cela signifie, entre autre, une révision du modèle de régulation existant, qui doit prendre en considération la performance et les effets des réseaux de l’industrie.

Year after year, smart home systems continue to increase in popularity among consumer households. Consumption of smart home systems is also predicted to increase steeply in the coming years. Therefore, the article aims at assessing the attitude of young consumers towards a smart home and its devices. The article is based on primary and secondary sources of information. While primary information indicated the attitude of young consumers towards smart homes in their capacity as potential buyers, secondary information allowed for the definition of the issues discussed pertaining to smart homes and their devices. Using direct research, the online survey technique was employed on a sample of 588 consumers aged 18-34 years living in Poland in 2021. The respondents' declarations showed that they intend using smart home services in the future, and that they thought using smart home devices would be enjoyable. In addition, respondents agreed with the statements that smart home devices are easy to use and valuable in everyday life, and that using smart home devices helps complete household chores faster. In their opinion, using a smart device at home can increase security and safety by detecting gas and smoke emissions and by creating an alert in the event of unauthorised home intrusion.

Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) is a technologically advanced solution currently implemented by the most innovative distribution system operators. ENERGA-OPERATOR SA set about preparing for smart metering implementation in 2010. So far the company has installed over 400,000 meters in its area, and plans to install a further 450,000 in 2015. Kalisz, the first fully AMI-covered city in Poland, was chosen for an in-depth analysis of the system. In particular, a consumer test was conducted there with the intention of answering the question about the strength of the demand side response to multi-zone tariffs and power reduction. Conclusions from the year-long test show the demand side response to multi-zone tariffs – i.e. the maximum temporary percentage reduction of energy consumption in the time zone with the tariff raised by a min. of 80% – stays within the 5–15% range. In the case of power reduction (the maximum temporary reduction of energy consumption in the time zone when the power available to a household is limited to 1 kW) – the demand side response stays within the 10–30% range. An additional effect of tariff diversification and smart metering is a reduction in electricity consumption by 1–4% on working days (i.e. this is the effect of either the consumption reduction or shifting it to weekends). During the test energy consumers were subjected to both price incentives and education. Due to the fact that it is difficult to separate the effects of education and tariff structures, the company plans to continue the research related to verifying the effectiveness of individual activation tools in reducing electricity consumption by households.
Systemy inteligentnego opomiarowania AMI (ang. Advanced Metering Infrastructure) to zaawansowane technicznie rozwiązania, obecnie wdrażane przez najbardziej innowacyjnych operatorów systemu dystrybucyjnego. ENERGA-OPERATOR SA przystąpiła do przygotowania wdrożenia inteligentnego opomiarowania w 2010 roku. Dotąd spółka zainstalowała na swoim obszarze ponad 400 tys. liczników i planuje instalację kolejnych 450 tys. jeszcze w 2015 roku. Kalisz, który jest pierwszym w pełni objętym systemem AMI miastem w Polsce, został wybrany jako miejsce pogłębionych analiz działania systemu. W szczególności został tam przeprowadzony test konsumencki, mający dać odpowiedź na pytanie o siłę odpowiedzi popytu na taryfy wielostrefowe oraz redukcję mocy. Podsumowanie rocznego testu pozwala stwierdzić, że odpowiedź popytu na taryfy wielostrefowe – czyli chwilowe, procentowe, maksymalne zmniejszenie zużycia energii w strefie czasowej o podwyższonej taryfie o min. 80% – mieści się w przedziale 5–15%. W przypadku redukcji mocy (chwilowego, maksymalnego zmniejszenia zużycia energii w strefie czasowej, kiedy moc dostępna dla danego gospodarstwa domowego jest ograniczona do 1 kW) – odpowiedź popytu mieści się w przedziale 10–30%. Dodatkowym efektem płynącym ze zróżnicowania taryf i posiadania inteligentnego licznika jest zmniejszenie zużycia energii elektrycznej od 1 do 4% w ciągu dni roboczych (czyli jest to efekt bądź ograniczenia zużycia, bądź przesunięcia zużycia na weekendy). W czasie trwania testu odbiorcy energii byli poddawani zarówno bodźcom cenowym, jak i edukacyjnym. Ze względu na fakt, że trudne jest oddzielenie efektów płynących osobno z edukacji i konstrukcji taryf, spółka planuje kontynuować prace badawcze związane z weryfikacją skuteczności poszczególnych narzędzi aktywizacyjnych w redukcji zużycia energii elektrycznej przez gospodarstwa domowe.

Smart Grid is both a concept and a way to mitigate infrastructural deficiencies and counteract the effects of the growing demand for electrical energy. One of the ways ensuring an increase in power grid’s management efficiency is utilization of the latest communication solutions by use of IT technologies. Such solutions ensure reduced energy consumption and evened 24-hour loads, decreased losses and – thanks to automated energy balancing – increased transfer security. Such solutions will directly translate into increased efficiency of the entire power grid. The present article contains an introduction to smart power grids, perspectives for their development in Poland, as well as an extended discussion of related issues concerning security on the organizational level.

The smart city concept has been growing in importance in the research activities worldwide as a direction in the development of modern cities. Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) solutions are quite a new transport concept introduced in a small number of cities usually in the pilot phase. The main purpose of the article is to explore the interactions and complementarity of these concepts. This paper analyses how MaaS can support progress in achieving smart mobility, and thus the idea of a smart city. It has the potential to improve the use of assets and contributes to a reduction in the number of passenger cars in congested cities. The research methodology includes a literature review and a deductive research method. The research has shown that cities having high indexes of ‘smartness’ are more likely to implement technologically advanced ICT solutions in transport systems and both these concepts (smart city and Mobility-as-a-Service) are important for the future of cities making them more sustainable and providing a higher quality of life for residents and visitors. The results of this study can be useful for policy makers, especially at local and regional levels.
Koncepcja inteligentnego miasta jako kierunek rozwoju nowoczesnych miast zyskuje na znaczeniu jako przedmiot badań naukowych. Mobility-as-a-Service to nowa koncepcja organizacji transportu, wprowadzona w niewielkiej liczbie miast, mogąca poprawić wykorzystanie zasobów, zmniejszyć udział samochodów osobowych w przewozach i po- ziom kongestii. Głównym celem artykułu było przedstawienie badań nad interakcjami i komplementarnością tych dwóch koncepcji. W pracy wykorzystano przegląd literatury i wnioskowanie metodą dedukcji. Wykazano, jak MaaS może wspomagać osiągnięcie inteligentnej mobilności i celów inteligentnego miasta. Badanie empiryczne dowiodło, iż miasta mające wysokie wskaźniki w rankingu inteligentnych miast wykazują większe skłonności do wdrażania zaawansowanych technologicznie rozwiązań zaliczanych do MaaS. Obie te koncepcje (smart city i Mobility-as-a-Service) są istotne dla miast, aby rozwijały się w sposób zrównoważony i zapewniały wysoką jakość życia mieszkańcom.

Liczba ludności w miastach na świecie rośnie o prawie 60 mln rocznie. Szacuje się, że do 2050 r. 2/3 ludności świata będzie mieszkać w miastach. Nadmierna urbanizacja i rosnąca liczba ludności w miastach stanowią poważne wyzwanie dla zarządzania miastem, a w szczególności dla logistyki miejskiej. Dziedzina ta, sprowadzająca się do koordynacji i synchronizacji przepływów na obszarach zurbanizowanych, zyskuje na znaczeniu w ujęciu strategicznym. Działania prowadzone w miastach europejskich, mające na celu usprawnienie logistyki miejskiej, postrzegane są jako element programu na rzecz inteligentnych miast (smart cities). Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie koncepcji smart city oraz jej znaczenia w kontekście logistycznego zarządzania miastem. Następnie, poprzez case study, zaprezentowanie przykładów rozwiązań z zakresu smart city stosowanych w miastach europejskich. Na bazie rozwiązań europejskich w artykule przeanalizowane zostaną możliwości czterech miast polskich w zakresie adaptowania rozwiązań smart city na swoich obszarach. Przedstawione w artykule wnioski sformułowano na podstawie dwóch faz badawczych – analityczneji syntetycznej. Pierwsza zawiera przegląd literatury oraz analizę przypadków rozwiązań smart city pochodzących z miast europejskich. Wykorzystano w niej dane z dokumentów strategicznych Komisji Europejskiej. Na podstawie obserwacji dobrych praktyk w ramach rozwiązań smart cities stosowanych w miastach europejskich przeprowadzono badania metodą wywiadów pogłębionych z zarządzającymi polskimi miastami, odnosząc się do potencjalnych rozwiązań smart city możliwych do zastosowania w czterech polskich miastach.W fazie syntetycznej badań na bazie analiz teoretycznych oraz case study wyciągnięto wnioski końcowe.  
The number of urban residents is growing by nearly 60 million people every year. It is estimated that by the year 2050 2/3 of the world population will have been urban. The increasing urbanisation requires new and innovative ways to manage the complexity of urban living and to target problems of energy consumption, resource management and environmental protection. These problems are essential for city logistics. The field concerning coordination and synchronization of the flows within the urban areas is gaining strategic importance. Activities in European cities that are going to improve city logistics are included as a part for the smart city idea. Scope: At the beginning, this paper will introduce the background of the smart city concept, as well as its meaning in the logistics-related aspects of city management. Then, through the case study, it will present solutions that make European cities smart. Moreover, using the background of the significance of the concept of a smart city and its applications in the European reality, the author will analyze the possibilitiesof four Polish cities (Rzeszow, Gdansk, Cracow and Bialystok – recognised as the smartest Polish cities) for approaching the smart city concept standards in the European dimension. Methodology: The methodology of the paper is based on two dimensions: analysis and synthesis. The first phase included a thorough thematic literature review, an analysis of case studies of European and Polish smartcities. It was complemented by interviewing city board representatives of the examined Polish cities. In the synthetic phase, the study provided conclusions based on the theoretical analysis and the survey of the case study.

The article presents the availability of statistical data in the Eurostat database on Smart City, related to cities from Poland. The assessment of cities in the context of Smart City is possible through the construction of relevant rankings. Their construction is necessary to know the variables describing the aspects of the operation of the city. The number of cities and the number of variables transferred from Poland to the European database has been examined. The question we tried to answer was whether the contents of this database will allow for the construction of a ranking for Polish and European cities.
W artykule przedstawiono dostępność danych statystycznych w bazie Eurostat z zakresu Smart City odnoszących się do miast z Polski. Ocena miast w kontekście Smart City jest możliwa poprzez konstrukcję odpowiednich rankingów. Do ich konstrukcji konieczna jest znajomość zmiennych opisujący aspekty funkcjonowania miasta. Zbadano, jak kształtuje się liczba miast oraz liczba zmiennych przekazywanych z Polski do europejskiej bazy danych. Starano się odpowiedzieć, czy zawartość tej bazy danych pozwoli na budowę rankingu dla miast polskich oraz europejskich.

Koncepcja smart cities (tzw. inteligentne miasta) to jedna z najbardziej obiecujących koncepcji przyszłości dotycząca rozwoju miast i lokalnej gospodarki. To idea nastawiona na to, by ośrodki miejskie były zarządzanew sposób ekologiczny, nowoczesny, oszczędny i efektywny. Rozwój innowacyjnych technologii, przede wszystkim informatycznychi komunikacyjnych, pozwala na znaczne podniesienie funkcjonalności miast. Konieczna jest integracja nowoczesnych rozwiązań technicznych z istniejącą już i modernizowaną infrastrukturą. Idea inteligentnego miasta ma na celu przede wszystkim poprawę działań w kategoriach: obywatele, urząd, energia, budynki, transport, infrastruktura, łączność oraz zdrowie. Zdaniem ekspertów w dziedzinie inteligentnych miast to właśnie inteligentny transport ma kluczowe znaczenie dla poprawy jakości życia mieszkańców. W artykule zostanie zaprezentowana koncepcja smart city ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem zagadnień dotyczących zrównoważonego i nowoczesnego transportu w ramach inteligentnego miasta. Analizie zostaną poddane możliwości zastosowania inteligentnych rozwiązań, rodzaje tych rozwiązań w zakresie transportu, a także korzyści wynikające z ich zastosowania zarówno dla mieszkańców, przedsiębiorców, turystów, jak i władz. Autorzy dokonają przeglądu doświadczeń i rozwiązań idei smart w zakresie transportu przyjętych w wybranych miastach Europy, a także przedstawią inteligentne rozwiązania transportowe w Polsce. Przy tworzeniu niniejszego opracowania dokonano analizy literatury dotyczącej zagadnień inteligentnych miast, a także raportów i rankingów smart cities w Europie. Cennym źródłem okazały się informacje zawarte na stronach internetowych badanych jednostek (miast) oraz aktualne przykłady z czasopism branżowych.
The smart cities is one of the most promising conceptions of the future, which concerns urban development and local economy. It is the idea that urban settlements should be managed in an environmentally-friendly, modern, economical and effective way. The development of innovativetechnologies, especially ICT, allows for a significant increase in the functionality of cities. It is necessary to integrate modern technological solutions with the already existing infrastructure as well as that being modernized. The idea of smart cities essentially aims to improve activities undertaken in the spheres such as: citizens, governance, energy, buildings, transport, infrastructure, communications and health. According to experts, it is smart transportation that is vital to improving the quality of life of inhabitants. The article presents the conception of smart cities with a focus on issues related to sustainable and modern transport within a smart city. The analysis includes possibilities of using smart solutions, types of such solutions in transport and their benefits for residents, entrepreneurs, tourists and authorities. The authors review experiences and solutions of the conception in the field of transport adopted in selected European cities. Furthermore intelligent transport solutions in Poland are presented. The purpose of the article is to present the idea of smart cities (in terms of intelligent and sustainable transport) pointing to examples of solutions applied in European cities and selected centers in Poland. In this paper, the literature on smart cities as well as reports and rankings of smart cities in Europe were analyzed. Additionally, the websites of the entities (cities) surveyed and current examples from professional magazines were very valuable sources of information.

The possibility of using energy storage in a power system is being highlighted increasingly often. Its operating mode or manner of use is called the “storage usage strategy”. One of them, program operation, was selected for this study. An algorithm of the supervisory control of storage for a chosen strategy is described. Simulation results are presented. The investor may face a dilemma of how to select parameters for the storage operated in a strategy. Based on the simulation results, technical and economic optimisation indicators were determined. A pattern of the selection of total storage capacity for the chosen strategy was developed, taking into account various types of electrochemical storage, with a fixed usable capacity. The considered optimisation problem is to establish a compromise between storage life and its effective use.
Obecnie coraz częściej sygnalizowana jest możliwość wykorzystania magazynów energii w SEE. Tryb pracy lub sposób wykorzy- stania został nazwany „strategią wykorzystania magazynu”. W artykule wybrano jedną z nich – pracę programową. Opisano algo- rytm sterowania nadrzędnego magazynem dla wybranej strategii. Przedstawiono wyniki symulacji. Inwestor może mieć dylemat, jak dobrać parametry magazynu pracującego w danej strategii. Na podstawie wyników symulacji wyznaczono techniczno-ekono- miczne wskaźniki optymalizacji. Opracowano schemat doboru mocy i pojemności całkowitej magazynu dla wybranej strategii, z uwzględnieniem różnych typów elektrochemicznych magazynów, przy ustalonej wartości pojemności użytkowej. Rozpatrywanym problemem optymalizacyjnym jest ustalenie kompromisu pomiędzy żywotnością magazynu a jego efektywnym wykorzystaniem.

Realizacja pracy „Inteligentny Półwysep” wymagała opracowania modelu obliczeniowego sieci średniego napięcia oraz fragmentu sieci niskiego napięcia na Półwyspie Helskim. Opracowany model został wykorzystany do przeprowadzenia wielu analiz symulacyjnych w sieci SN. Przeprowadzone analizy zostały wykorzystane do opracowania algorytmów sterowania pracą sieci SN. W artykule przedstawione zostały wyniki analiz, których celem było zweryfikowanie algorytmu regulacji napięcia zgodnie z metodą MLDC. Zamieszczone zostały również wyniki analiz mających na celu weryfikację zdolności EC Władysławowo do pracy autonomicznej na Półwyspie Helskim.
“The Intelligent Peninsula” project implementation required the development of a computational model of a medium voltage grid and of a section of a low voltage grid in the Hel Peninsula. The model was used to perform many simulation analyses in the MV grid. The analyses were used to develop MV grid operation control algorithms. The paper presents results of the analyses aimed at verification of a MLDC method-based voltage control algorithm. The paper presents results of the analyses aimed at verification of EC Władysławowo cogeneration plant’s suitability for standalone operation in the Hel Peninsula.

Regardless of whether the adopted role of education is to prepare people for pursuing employment or building general values, it will include the identification and development of skills and competences as well as professional and personal attributes. Critical thinking, ingenuity and complex cognitive-social skills are precisely those areas in which people continue to outdo intelligent machines. The purpose of this article is to review the skills and competences that will be desirable in the future in relation to recent technological changes. They are preceded by selected macroeconomic data to illustrate the situation of higher education with an emphasis on Poland, where, despite positive returns on investment in education (the highest among OECD countries), since 2005 a systematic fall in demand for higher education has been observed. The empirical part presents the results of a pilot study aimed at determining the desired future skills and professional attributes of Polish employers. The basic data was collected manually using a quantitative study during three sessions at two different job fairs in Gdańsk in March 2017. According to the surveyed respondents (n = 55), professional experience, proficiency in the use of new media and formal education were indicated as the least important features, while learning and diligence – as the key competences for the future economy. In addition, the studies have shown the differences in the perception of these abilities and competences depending on the employer’s position on the market, the number of employees and the internal policies of the companies.

Power delivery infrastructures are overstrained and suffer from overaged conditions, not only in the developed, but also in the more industrialized countries. The aim of the smart grid is to provide a more reliable and efficient electric power grid. Condition assessment is an essential and effective part of the reliability for electric grid components; also, it reflects the physical state of the electricity asset in a generation, transmission, distribution, and consumers sides. In this paper, condition assessment of electric grid assets will be discussed and illustrated within the context of smart grid principle. In addition, the proposed condition assessment architecture and the objective of condition assessment for smart grid equipment will be explored and analyzed. Moreover, the potential benefits of such smart system as compared to the traditional power system will be presented. This paper aims to add significant contribution to a smart grid theory.

Presently, digitalization is causing continuous transformation of industrial processes. However, it does pose challenges like spatially contextualizing data from industrial processes. There are various methods for calculating and delivering real-time location data. Indoor positioning systems (IPS) are one such method, used to locate objects and people within buildings. They have the potential to improve digital industrial processes, but they are currently underutilized. In addition, augmented reality (AR) is a critical technology in today’s digital industrial transformation. This article aims to investigate the use of IPS and AR in manufacturing, the methodologies and technologies employed, the issues and limitations encountered, and identify future research opportunities. This study concludes that, while there have been many studies on IPS and navigation AR, there has been a dearth of research efforts in combining the two. Furthermore, because controlled environments may not expose users to the practical issues they may face, more research in a real-world manufacturing environment is required to produce more reliable and sustainable results.

Takie podejście staje się jednak niewystarczające i wymaga szerszego spojrzenia na potencjał, jakim jest połączenie idei Smart Factory z potencjałem jaki wynika z zastosowania technologii w łańcuchach dostaw w przemyśle. Istotnym aspektem umożliwiającym czerpanie korzyści z takiego holistycznego ujęcia jest wykorzystanie Internetu Rzeczy (IoT) w zarządzaniu informacją przepływającą od konsumenta do producenta surowców. Celem artykułu jest zwrócenie uwagi na potrzebę holistycznego spojrzenia na problematykę cyfryzacji w zarządzaniu fabryką i przepływami w łańcuchach dostaw, aby osiągać maksymalizację korzyści całego systemu, jakim jest Smart Industry. Rozważania poprzedzono analizą ewolucji Internetu, jako podstawy do możliwości zarządzania przepływami z wykorzystaniem IoT.
The current development of technologies supported by Internet access stimulates the emergence of Smart Industry and Smart Supply Chain concepts. Intelligent factories use robotics and automation to improve competitiveness. This approach, however, is insufficient and requires a broader view of the potential of combining the Smart Factory concept with the potential resulting from the application of technology in industrial supply chains. An important aspect that makes it possible to benefit from such a holistic approach is the use of the Internet of Things (IoT) in the management of information flows from the consumer to the raw materials producers. The aim of the article is to draw attention to the need for a holistic view of the issues of digitization with the management of the factory and flows in the supply chains, in order to maximize the benefits of the entire system, which is Smart Industry. The considerations were preceded by an analysis of the evolution of the Internet as a basis for the ability to manage flows using IoT.

Projekty smart wkraczają w otaczającą rzeczywistość coraz prężniej. Coraz śmielsze i nowocześniejsze rozwiązania wspomagają życie człowieka, sprawiają, iż przebywamy w coraz bardziej ekologicznym świecie, stwarzają pomost pomiędzy życiem fizycznym a wirtualnymi elementami, bez których dzisiejszy świat w zasadzie obejść się nie może. Jedną z prób dostosowania terenu do nowoczesnego świata jest koncepcja zagospodarowania terenów wokół zbiornika wodnego w Krakowie. W założeniu, przestrzeń tutaj stać się ma nowoczesną platformą rekreacyjną – rozwiązaniem, które połączy realny odpoczynek z nierzeczywistym, ale istniejącym już, światem nowoczesnych technologii. Przy okazji będzie bezpieczny dla środowiska, nienaruszający równowagi ekologicznej, a materiały użyte w projekcie będą zgodne z naturą. Ze względu na fakt, że projekt jest obecnie przed etapem projektu budowlanego, nie ma pewności, czy taki eksperyment się uda, czy inwestorowi wystarczy energii i funduszy, by realizować powyższe założenia, czy urzędy przy wydawaniu pozwoleń wodnoprawnych i decyzji o uwarunkowaniach środowiskowych nie sprofilują rozwiązań w innym niż przewidywany przez projektanta i inwestora kierunek. Warto jednak dokładniej przyjrzeć się proponowanym rozwiązaniom już teraz.
Smart projects enter the surrounding reality. Increasingly bolder and more modern solutions support human life, make us live in an increasingly ecological world, create a bridge between physical life and virtual elements. One of the attempts to adjust the area to the modern world is the concept of development of the area around the water reservoir in Krakow. In the premise, the space here has become a modern leisure platform – a solution that will combine real rest with the unreal but already existing world of modern technology. It will be environmentally safe, balanced ecologically and materials used in the project will be in harmony with nature. Due to the fact that the project is currently in progress before the construction phase, there is no certainty that such an experiment will succeed or whether the investor will have enough energy and funds to implement the above assumptions, whether issuing water permits office and environmental determinations do not profess solutions in other than expected by the designer and investor direction. However, it is worthwhile to take a closer look at the proposed solutions.

The article presents a proposal for a research tool that might assess the ecological activity of municipalities, with particular emphasis on those that lie on national boundaries. With climate change, it has become necessary to take into account the principles of sustainable growth while maintaining high living standards in the long term. Systematic research on the action undertaken by municipalities in this area is a necessary requirement in the coming years. For this reason, the main directions and areas of research in the process of approaching the concept of a “green smart city” have been outlined. The available literature is limited to research in the field of smart cities and examines solutions for large urban agglomerations. The evaluation criteria of “ecological maturity” proposed in this paper are designed for small border municipalities. One may accept the thesis that due to their specificity, location, natural diversity and the opportunities for cooperation with a foreign partner that they offer, border municipalities can create a model of ecological behaviour in terms of a “green smart city”. This evolution requires support and monitoring for policymakers, and the proposed online research tool may reveal “ecological immaturities”, decisional errors or just plain negligence. One might only hope that, as a result of these indications, the recommendations will prove valuable for all local government units. On the other hand, a number of doubts and dilemmas are raised that researchers are unable to eliminate at this stage.
Artykuł prezentuje propozycję narzędzia badawczego do oceny aktywności ekologicznej gmin ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem gmin przygranicznych. Wraz ze zmianami klimatu pojawiła się konieczność uwzględniania w dłuższej perspektywie czasu zasad zrównoważonego wzrostu z zachowaniem wysokich standardów życia. Systematyczne badanie aktywności gmin w tym zakresie to konieczny wymóg najbliższych lat. Z tego względu nakreślono główne kierunki i obszary badań w procesie dochodzenia do koncepcji „green smart city”. Dostępna literatura ogranicza się do badań w zakresie smart city i dotyczy rozwiązań dla dużych aglomeracji miejskich. Zaproponowane w pracy kryteria ewaluacyjne „dojrzałości ekologicznej” skierowane są do niewielkich przygranicznych gmin miejskich. Można przyjąć tezę, że gminy przygraniczne ze względu na swoją specyfikę, położenie, różnorodność przyrodniczą i możliwości kooperacyjne z partnerem zagranicznym mogą tworzyć model zachowań ekologicznych w aspekcie green smart city. Ewolucja ta wymaga wsparcia i monitoringu dla decydentów, a proponowane narzędzie badawcze dostępne online może wykazać „niedojrzałości ekologiczne”, błędy decyzyjne oraz zwykłe zaniedbania. Można mieć jedynie nadzieję, że w efekcie tych wskazań cenne okażą się rekomendacje dla wszystkich jednostek samorządowych. Z drugiej strony wzbudzają one szereg wątpliwości i dylematów, których badacze na tym etapie nie mogą wyeliminować.

Wynika to z jego specyficznych cech, które wpływają na dostępność i łatwość korzystania z tego rozwiązania prawnego, lecz mogą również prowadzić do niekorzystnych dla konsumenta skutków. W kontekście potencjalnych zagrożeń, które mogą spotkać konsumentów, szczególnie istotna jest niezmienialność smart kontraktów. W niniejszym artykule przedstawiono dlaczego należy poświęcić uwagę konsumentom korzystającym z inteligentnych kontraktów. Artykuł koncentruje się na możliwych rozwiązaniach problemów towarzyszących konsumentom dokonującym czynności prawnych przy użyciu smart kontraktów na każdym etapie dokonywania transakcji, począwszy od etapu przedkontraktowego, przez zawarcie umowy, aż do jej wykonania.

The concentration of population in urban centres and the progressing economic development are the one of the fundamental causes of problems of functioning of contemporary cities. One of these issues is the urban transport causing environmental losses and a lower quality of life. The concept that limits the adverse phenomena may be the smart city, and intelligent solutions in the way of moving the urban community. The purpose of this article is to show how urban transport can influence the shaping of intelligent solutions in cities with the help of various factors and components.
Koncentracja ludności w ośrodkach miejskich oraz postępujący rozwój gospodarczy stanowią jedne z zasadniczych przyczyn problemów funkcjonowania współczesnych miast. Jednym z tych zagadnień jest transport miejski powodujący straty w środowisku naturalnym oraz niższą jakość życia. Koncepcją ograniczającą niekorzystne zjawiska może być smart city, a w tym inteligentne rozwiązania w sposobie przemieszczania się miejskiej społeczności. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest ukazanie jak transport miejski może wpłynąć na kształtowanie inteligentnych rozwiązań w miastach przy pomocy różnych czynników i komponentów.

Wyzwania stojące przed polską elektroenergetyką w związku z wdrażaniem całkowicie nowych rozwiązań technicznych i organizacyjnych będą wymagały wsparcia ze strony uczelni i jednostek naukowych. Jednym z takich przedsięwzięć, ukierunkowanym na wsparcie rozwoju sieci Smart Grid, jest stworzenie na Wydziale Elektrotechniki i Automatyki Politechniki Gdańskiej ultranowoczesnego obiektu badawczego - Laboratorium Innowacyjnych Technologii Elektroenergetycznych i Integracji Odnawialnych Źródeł Energii LINTE^2.
In 2016, a withdrawal of obsolete units from Polish power plants will be started. Consequently, power generation will decrease and available reserves will be reduced. Development of electricity networks called Smart Grid and effective management of electrical energy in such networks may be a way out to improve the country's power security in such a situation. The challenges facing the Polish power sector in implementing a completely new technical solutions will require support from universities and research units. One of these projects, aimed at supporting the development of Smart Grid is the creation of Laboratory LINTE^2 at the Department of Electrical and Control Engineering of Technical University of Gdansk.

Artykuł ten skupia się na jednym urządzeniu inteligentnych systemów pomiarowych – na wyświetlaczu domowym. Charakteryzuje jego funkcje oraz przedstawia międzynarodowe doświadczenia płynące z projektów badawczych oraz wnioski z opracowań.
There are many studies on smart metering. The aim of smart metering is not only automate billing and two-way communication with a smart meter. The measure of success of the implementation of smart metering is the level of customer engagement and his cooperation with energy companies, as well as the consequences of such involvement flowing change his electricity-using habits. This article focuses on one device for smart metering – in-home display. The paper characterized IHD's functions and described international experiences of the research and conclusions of the studies.

The paper analyzes the key steps taken by different cities worldwide and gathered into a clear step-by-step roadmap that can be useful for emerging smart cities. The Roadmap covers three main stages as we see them during the process of development: preparation, formation and spreading stages. We reveal how this is incorporated in the Ukrainian context. Our analysis of smart city solutions from all over the world (based on the BeeSmartCity database) showed that the tech component on its own is not enough to overcome urban challenges within different domains (environment, economy, government etc.), as we see each of the solutions has a human component involved in a form of knowledge generation and sharing, different forms of co-creation and partnership etc. Thus, ICTs are a required but not a sufficient element of building successful citizen-friendly and resilient cities.

The vision of a Smart City is to connect smart models, smart IT, and smart management practices that qualitatively help municipalities advance service delivery in the areas of infrastructure, environment, education, health, and more. Modifying the management skills of local government leaders is a natural response to Smart City policy. Methods used in this paper that helped to achieve the objectives were a review of the current state of knowledge of the issue, search of relevant literature and case studies, summarisation of results, induction, deduction, and others. The studies included the following research questions: 1. What is the general scope of research on Smart City and Eco-Smart City? 2. What are the key challenges for Smart City managers? 3. What is the current state of Smart City development? The Web of Science and Scopus databases were chosen to identify relevant literature. The research focuses on articles published in English (from 2019 to 2023). The aim of the review is to provide a current picture of research in smart cities and to identify gaps and areas for future research. The analysis brought two challenges to the research: research is often fragmented and technology-driven, and many studies are on the perceived benefits of smart city projects.

Many home appliances available on the market are equipped with components to receive and generate data and communication modules allow connection to the Internet. As a result, the devices can be combined to smart homes systems. The analysis presents the individual capabilities of devices that can work in such systems. Presented are devices available on the market and made a smart home system working in Wi-Fi and Z-Wave networks.

The term smart city is increasingly used in media and across society. The main goal of this paper is the presentation of the results of the conducted study on what cities should do and how, in order to improve the quality of public transport in their city to become a smart city. Based on comparative analysis of public transport of the best smart cities in the world i.e. London, San Francisco and Singapore, this research aims at pointing out the development direction of implementing smart mobility for cities. The selected cities will be examined and compared according to the following criteria: availability of transport in the city, applied technologies in transport solutions, and the strategy for the development of transport services in the city

Rozwój wykorzystany w przemyśle turystycznym opiera się na technologiach innowacyjnych, informatycznych oraz komunikacyjnych. Koncepcja Smart Tourism (inteligentna turystyka), która pojawiła się w ostatnich latach, jest nowym podejściem opartym na technologii oraz środowisku, którego celem jest zapewnienie turystom rozwiązań uwzględniających konkretne potrzeby związane z podróżowaniem i wykorzystywaniem dostępnej infrastruktury turystycznej oraz paraturystycznej. W literaturze przedmiotu istnieją różne określenia Smart Tourism, jednak nie istnieje jeszcze jedna spójna definicja. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest dokonanie kwerendy literatury dotyczącej koncepcji Smart Tourism. Na potrzeby artykułu dokonano przeglądu oraz analizy literatury z zakresu podejmowanej problematyki.
The tourism sector must be able to adapt to a very rapidly changing environment and increasing competitiveness in a market that is directly and indirectly linked to technological development. The development used in the tourism industry is based on innovative, IT and communications technologies. The concept of Smart Tourism, which has developed in recent years, is a new approach based on technology and the environment, which aims to provide tourists solutions that take into account the specific needs of travel and the exploitation of the available tourism infrastructure. There are various definitions of Smart Tourism in the literature, but there is no common definition yet. The aim of this article is to review the literature on the concept of Smart Tourism and support the creation of a common definition that would be accessible to the public. For the purpose of this article a research and analysis of the literature on the subject has been performed.

The article presents issues related to creating sustainable mobility, which is one of the main elements of a smart city, the understanding of which in recent years has changed dramatically. We can observe a departure from the strictly technological understanding of a smart city, in favour of creative development and providing incentives for shaping urban space that is not only public, but also respects the requirements of the environment. This aspect is also necessary for the development of smart and sustainable mobility. The aim of this study is to identify the main premise and the characteristics of a smart and sustainable city, and to present mobility as one of the key challenges involved in the operationalization of the concept. Although the issue of a smart city and sustainable city in the literature is often taken up, their combination is less explored. These considerations start with presenting the key components of a smart sustainable city. This will allow to understand the idea of the concept. Next, we will go to the issue of mobility, which plays an important role in creating a smart sustainable city.
Artykuł prezentuje zagadnienia związane z kreowaniem zrównoważonej mobilności, która jest jednym z głównych elementów smart city. Obserwujemy odejście od stricte technologicznego rozumowania miasta inteligentnego na rzecz kreatywnego rozwoju i dostarczania bodźców do kształtowania przestrzeni miejskiej, odpowiadającej nie tylko społeczeństwu, ale respektującej wymagania środowiska. Aspekt ten jest niezbędny dla rozwoju inteligentnej i zrównoważonej mobilności. Za cel opracowania przyjęto identyfikację założeń oraz cech miasta inteligentnego i zrównoważonego, a także przedstawienie mobilności jako jednego z kluczowych wyzwań smart sustainable city. Rozważania rozpoczniemy od przedstawienia głównych elementów miasta inteligentnego i zrównoważonego. Pozwoli to zrozumieć ideę koncepcji smart sustainable city. Następnie przejdziemy do kwestii mobilności, która odgrywa ważną rolę w operacjonalizacji koncepcji.

Introduction/background: The level of residents’ awareness of the Smart City concept and their approach towards the potential of Smart City dimensions requires a more detailed investigation. The research tool prepared in this article may have an interesting impact on the residents of developing cities. The framework will allow researchers to examine the knowledge of residents about the Smart City concept, and may contribute to the identification of new social needs among city’ inhabitants. Aim of the paper: The main objective of this paper is to define the Smart City as a community-driven phenomenon and determine the current trends in case of Smart City dimensions. Authors undertake the task of synthesizing all dimensions mentioned in the literature about the Smart City concept. Additionally, the paper presents a conceptual research framework that may be used as a research tool in order to measure the level of residents’ awareness of the Smart City concept. Materials and methods: A comprehensive desk research was conducted which included iterative analyses of Smart City literature and Smart City models. A research framework, in form of a questionnaire, was prepared in order to gather qualitative and quantitative data about awareness and needs of residents towards a Smart City. The findings concerning the Smart City concept, that were presented in the article, will require further verification – both in terms of empirical research and further literature analysis, due to the dynamic development of this particular issue. Results and conclusions: The Smart City concept has many definitions and domains that are often perceived from the perspective of the investigated issue. This paper synthesizes all the dimensions mentioned in the available literature and adds new ones as well. Moreover, the preliminary research results indicate that the awareness of the Smart City phenomenon among residents of a developing town is quite high. Research results may be of great interest for the authorities of a particular city. Therefore, the presented framework may induce communication between local communities and city authorities.

Przestrzeń mieszkaniowa XXI wieku za sprawą technologii komputerowych i Internetu zatraca swoje fizyczne granice umożliwiając mieszkańcom zarówno prowadzenie zdalnych aktywności życiowych bez wychodzenia z domu jak i kontrolowanie fizycznej przestrzeń zamieszkania z zewnątrz. Technologie te kreują nowe formy aktywności domowych jednocześnie globalnie łącząc przestrzenie zamieszkania. Niniejsza praca prezentuje wyniki przeprowadzonego studium przypadków dostępnych technologii „smart home” w celu weryfikacji w jaki sposób i jakim kosztem służą one mieszkańcom. Przeprowadzone badania wykazały, że urządzenia „smart home” oferują szereg udogodnień i ułatwień pozwalając nie tylko kontrolować i ograniczyć koszty zamieszkania, ale również dostarczając informacji i rozrywki. Jednocześnie, urządzenia te coraz częściej, przyjmują formę przedmiotów wyposażenia wnętrz, w niepozorny sposób zbierając i udostępniając informacje o czynnościach życiowych domowników, i ingerują w tradycyjny podział na przestrzeń prywatną i publiczną zamieszkania. Inteligentne domy wymagają inteligentnych mieszkańców, niestety brak możliwości zarządzania udostępnianymi informacjami sprowadza domowników do roli konsumentów produktów i dostawców danych dotyczących sposobu użytkowania przestrzeni mieszkaniowej.
The 21st century housing space due to computer technologies and the Internet is losing its physical boundaries, enabling residents to both conduct remotely life activities without leaving home and to control the physical living space from outside. These technologies create new forms of home activities while globally connecting living spaces. This work presents results of a case study of available “smart home” technologies which was conducted to verify how and at what cost they serve residents. Research has shown that “smart home” devices offer a number of facilities and amenities allowing not only to control and reduce housing costs, but also to provide information and entertainment. At the same time, these devices more and more often take the form of interior furnishings, inconspicuously collecting and sharing information on the living activities of the household members and interfere with the traditional division into private and public space of residence. Smart homes require smart residents, but unfortunately the fact that residents don’t manage information they share, plays down them to the roles of consumers of products and providers of data about living space usage.

W artykule przedstawiono etapy budowy ontologii oraz jej zastosowanie do analizy zgodności dokumentów z przyjętymi ramami projektu.
The aim of this article is to present usefulness of an ontology as a tool to support decisions of steering committees. Construction of the ontology as a decisions’ supporting tool was a consequence of a problem with assessment of project proposals submitted to the Inteligentne Specjalizacje Smart Port & City project. The article presents stages of the construction of the ontology and its use for the analysis of compatibility with the accepted frames of the project.

Living on Earth in the 21st century requires determination due to its diversity and a multitude of propositions and values. So far, a large group of people has followed a consumer lifestyle, which often contributed to environmental degradation. The power of anthropopression (i.e. man's negative impact on nature) has caused many problems related to climate change, anomalies in the world of animals and plants, but also in the organization of urban and rural life. Every person living in a certain space should strive to follow the rules that will allow him to meet his developmental needs in the following dimensions: educational, professional, social, and, above all, existential. Living in a polluted environment makes it impossible to breathe deeply, while the poor quality of water and soil also prevents us from satisfying our thirst and hunger. The aim of the article is to present the concept of a smart and sustainable city, as life in cities should be reorganized to the level consistent with the Strategy developed by the United Nations. This publication has been divided into several parts. First, basic information on sustainable development is presented due to the necessity of saving a living society in the 21st century before the planet's destruction. The next part of the article introduces the concept of environmental education and its effectiveness in pedagogical terms to indicate that this area of knowledge requires constant improvement and deepening. Then, forms of social participation are introduced as a manifestation of social capital building. After presenting the effects of cooperation, as part of research findings (qualitative research), at the end of the article, the reader has a chance to reflect on the effectiveness of his current activities for maintaining the possibility of living in a repaired natural environment. The article covers issues related to sociology and pedagogy to demonstrate the interdisciplinary nature of the above sciences combined with the field of environmental protection.
