Opis:: The article offers an overview and reflection on the dynamics of the military role taking into account different security contexts and significant others. It analyses two dominant types of military roles: warrior embedded in the realistic perspective on security and peacekeeper grounded in the liberal approach. Finally, it examines the dynamics of the modern military role in the light of the internal-external security nexus. The article shows that the contemporary military role needs not only to combine warrior and peacekeeper roles but also develop some new elements in order to meet the requirements of the contemporary security context.The article begins by setting a theoretical framework that allows for an analysis of drivers of change of the military role. It then moves towards an examination of the contextual drivers of change which influence the two traditional conceptualisations of military role: a “warrior” and a “peacekeeper”. Next, the article turns towards the topic of internal-external security nexus as characteristic to the contemporary security context. Finally, it considers the contextual drivers of change within two areas of military involvement: domestic counter-terrorism operations and cyber security. The article ends with three main conclusions. Firstly, the contemporary military role requires more adaptability with regards to referent objects. Secondly, the contemporary military role requires more flexibility with regards to countering threats and the application of violence. Thirdly, the flexibility of the contemporary military role is necessitated by close collaboration with other actors who participate in provision of security.

Opis:: Presented article analyzes the sources of conflict between the family role and the professional role. The article is focused on the sources of conflict between work and family. The possibility of interference between these two roles should be closely investigated and better understood. Despite that in some cases the lines between professional and family life tend to blur, both of these types of life still have different roles and requirements. The article is an investigation of attainable literature and studies regarding the subject. The empirical investigation imply that the conflict of roles starts when the time committed to the requirements of one of them makes it difficult to meet the requirements of the other. Even though lately the number of investigations of this subject has grown, the results are still differentiated and sometimes even self-contradictory. The comparison of the results of different investigators showed that the work-family and family-work conflicts are positively correlated which indicates mutual strengthening and necessity of searching for common and individual causes that condition their coexistence, domination and strength. The received results are consistent with the results of many other studies, whose authors tried to indicate that each of these conflicts could have specific causes and course.

Opis:: Responsibility is a “core issue” in philosophy of law. “Responsibility” in a legal discourse refers primarily to formal sanctions or it expresses an idea of having to answer for something. I argue in the study that the legal responsibility can be attached to social roles (or even tasks), which are important to the functioning of the society. I try to elucidate the notions of a role (social role) and role-responsibility. This analysis leads to the conclusion that the role responsibility (the notion of the role-responsibility is derived from the Herbert Hart’s philosophical works) is largely constituted by inter-connected sets of rights, duties and responsibilities. Moreover, the role responsibility plays an important role in the law.

Opis:: Cel: Celem artykułu, o charakterze przeglądowym, jest wyjaśnienie zjawiska parentyfikacji, jej uwarunkowań i konsekwencji z nią związanych. Parentyfikacja najczęściej określana jest jako odwrócona rola w rodzinie i dotyczy zamiany roli między ro dzicem a dzieckiem. Dochodzi do niej wówczas, gdy rodzic, częściowo lub całkowicie, rezygnuje ze swoich zadań i obowiązków rodzicielskich. Abdykacja rodzica uruchamia proces parentyfikacji, w którym zwykle jedno, najczęściej najstarsze dziecko w rodzi nie, czuje się oddelegowane do przejęcia roli rodzicielskiej, w różnych sferach życia rodzinnego. Świadoma pomoc i obowiązki mogą mieć charakter instrumentalny lub emocjonalny. Dziecko poddane procesowi parentyfikacji może ponosić różnego rodzaju koszty a jego rozwój może być zagrożony. Mimo że wyniki wielu badań światowych i nielicznych polskich wskazują na olbrzymią złożoność i niejednorodność tego zjawiska, to wiele z nich uwidacznia zarówno doraźne, jak i długofalowe konsekwencje wynikające z doświadczania odwrócenia ról w rodzinie. Metody: W artykule zostaną zaprezentowane dane pochodzące z różnych badań zarówno ilościowych, jak i jakościowych. Wyniki: Przedstawione będą również wnioski z badań własnych, które autorki artykułu prowadzą od kilku lat. Wynika z nich, że parentyfikacja jest procesem złożonym, zróżnicowanym wieloczynnikowo a niekorzystne przeobrażenia, jakim podlega polska rodzina w znaczący sposób potencjalnie generują to zjawisko. Wnioski. Mimo zwiększonego zainteresowania, w ostatnich latach omawianą problematyką, literatura naukowa, zwłaszcza rodzima, jest nadal bardzo skromna, co utrudnia zarówno upowszechnienie, jak i opracowanie konkretnych rozwiązań nastawionych na pomoc i wsparcie rodzinom, w których pojawiło się odwrócenie ról.
Aim: This review paper aims to present the phenomenon of parentification, its determinants and outcomes. Parentification is usually defined as a reversal of family roles, when a child assumes the role of a parent and the parent takes on the role of a child. Parentification occurs when a parent partially or entirely abdicates his, or her, parental tasks and duties. The parent’s abdication sets in motion the process of parentification, in which a child, usually the eldest in the family, feels obliged to take on the role of a parent in various spheres of family life. The care and duties rendered by the child can be instrumental, or emotional in character. The parentified child may suffer various costs and his, or her, correct development may be endangered. Although the results of many international, and the few Polish, studies indicate that parentification is a very complex and multi-faceted phenomenon, they often point out both the immediate and long term consequences of the reversal of roles in the family. Methods: This paper reviews information from various studies – quantitative as well as qualitative. Results: The authors present the conclusions drawn from their own studies conducted over several years. They indicate that parentification is a complex phenomenon and that the negative transformation which the Polish family currently undergoes plays a significant role in generating this phenomenon. Conclusion: Despite increased interest in parentification in the recent years, the literature on the subject, particularly in Poland, is fairly limited, which hinders the finding and dissemination of any specific solutions for assisting families in which role reversal takes place.

Opis:: Earning a living during the time of study is slowly becoming the norm in Polish reality. Economic activity is increasingly being added to student life and activity. There are many different motivations for earning a living. Most often it is the desire to improve one’s own economic situation. Increasingly, however, work is being undertaken by young people in order to gain professional experience that can be demonstrated in their efforts for better post-graduate work and CV placement. The main purpose of the article is to try to answer the question of whether and to what extent work during study influences the basic role and other social roles of a student. Empirical data achieved in course of research conducted among students of University of Zielona Góra in 2015.
Praca zarobkowa podczas studiów powoli staje się normą w polskiej rzeczywistości. W życie i aktywność studencką coraz częściej wpisana jest aktywność ekonomiczna. Różne są motywacje podejmowania pracy zarobkowej. Najczęściej jest to chęć poprawienia własnej sytuacji ekonomicznej. Coraz częściej jednak praca podejmowana jest przez młodych ludzi w celu uzyskania doświadczeń zawodowych, którymi można wykazać się w staraniach o lepszą pracę po studiach i umieścić je w CV. Głównym celem artykułu jest próba odpowiedzi na pytanie, czy i w jakim zakresie praca podczas studiów wpływa na podstawową rolę i inne role społeczne studenta. Dane empiryczne pochodzą z badań zrealizowanych wśród studentów Uniwersytetu Zielonogórskiego w 2015 roku.

Opis:: The article presents a case study of a call center in the context of Erving Goffman's theory. The call center is a stage where actors-consultants play their roles. Their prescribed roles constitute a script to be duly observed. Role performance is constantly supervised and meticulously monitored with the aid of invisible mechanisms. Almost every sphere of performance is controlled, including qualitative and quantitative efficiency, working time, interruptions and the usage of technical equipment (e.g. computers) in order to eliminate discordance with the prescribed role. Does strict control of the occupant roles transform a call center into a total institution? Although the identity of consultants is regulated by the employer, the work is not obligatory. Goffman's theoretical categories are adequate for the analysis of a call center, but the reference to a total institution in the exact sense of this term would not be correct.
Tekst jest opisem studium przypadku call center w kontekście teorii Ervinga Goffmana. Telefoniczne biuro obsługi klienta wydaje się specyficzną „sceną”, na której „aktorzy” – konsultanci „grają” swoje role. Role, które zostały wcześniej dla nich napisane, stanowią rodzaj „scenariusza”, poza który nie powinno się wybiegać. „Granie” roli przez konsultantów jest pilnowane i poddawane specyficznemu nadzorowi, opartemu na niewidocznych mechanizmach. Kontroluje się urządzenia techniczne, na których pracownicy wykonują swe obowiązki (np. komputery), ale także inne sfery (przestrzeganie czasu pracy, przerw, efektywności pracy w wymiarze ilościowym i jakościowym). Właściwie każdy aspekt pracy w call center poddano kontroli. Czy zatem ścisła kontrola „roli” pracowników zmierza do ustanowienia call center w charakterze „instytucji totalnej”? „Tożsamość” konsultantów jest regulowana przez pracodawcę, jednakże praca w call center nie jest przymusowa. Zatem, choć kategorie stworzone przez Goffmana są bardzo adekwatne do analizy takich miejsc jak call center, to jednak nie są one „instytucjami totalnymi” w pełni tego słowa znaczeniu.

Opis:: The article describes the normative and positive relation between science (its people and institutions) and urban space as local place. The participation of science in local development is treated as a component of public participation. As such it constitutes a significant element of the place’s identity. While focusing on social sciences, the Author points to insufficient role of science as human activity in the production of urban space and searches for reasons for the occurrence of such a phenomenon. On the basis of three examples the desirable functions of science are identified: its diagnostic and inspiring role, each treated as necessary components of social development and of the production of space.

Opis:: Utility is a fundamental notion of orthodox (mostly neoclassical) economics, but as it is an idea, that is very vague and thus impossible to define and measure, it did a lot of harm to economics as a science. Therefore, I strongly argue that this outdated and imprecise concept should be finally abandoned, especially as a basis for microeconomic consumer theory, because it is not only illogical, but also ideologically not neutral, and thus unscientific. For sheer inertia, the concept of utility, as a basis for microeconomic theory, is taught to the students, thus corrupting the young minds. Furthermore, the present financial and economic crisis, the most serious since the 1930s, should force the economists from the academia to seriously revise the foundations of microeconomic theory, and, as logical consequence, rewrite the handbooks in microeconomics. I do not merely argue that the utility theory defies both logic and empirical justification, as many authors did it before me. I argue that the very notion of utility is unscientific, and was kept in microeconomic books only because of sheer inertia, but this way it made a lot of harm to the science of economics, and, as a result to the real economies. I also argue that the subjectivist theory of value should be replaced with an objectivist one, based on value of labour.

A współczesny świat ma trudność w akceptacji ról, wymagań i współzależności, ale także w docenianiu codziennego, żmudnego wysiłku ukierunkowanego na dobro wspólne. Kontekstem dla odpowiedzi na postawione pytanie powinny być równolegle dookreślane role innych członków wspólnoty – mężczyzn, księży, sióstr zakonnych. I oczywiście pozostaje kwestia, po co pytanie zostaje zadane i czy odpowiedź jest spójna z tą udzielaną w praktyce życia.
The question about the role of a woman in the Church is asked in the context of the world and triggers its problems. And the modern world has difficulty accepting roles, requirements and interdependence, but also in appreciating every day, arduous effort aimed at the common good. The context for answering the question should also be the parallel definition of the roles of other members of the community - men, priests, nuns. And of course, there remains the question of why the question is asked and whether the answer is consistent with the one given in real life.

Opis:: The tasks that the contemporary teachers of foreign languages face as well as the roles that they should assume as leaders of the educational process are of complex nature. This complexity is a result of numerous social changes and transformational processes. In response to these changes, educators’ roles keep being redefined so that the tasks that the teachers take up could be as effective as possible in the given time and space. These modified roles of teachers are the subject of this article. In the theoretical part, the results of the analysis of the literature on foreign language teaching are presented, with the focus on teacher roles and tasks. The analysis indicates the main development tendencies in foreign language teaching after the breakthrough caused by the communicative approach. The empirical part presents the outcome of research into how contemporary middle school students identify the roles and tasks of the teacher of German. The results of the study may contribute to the scholarly reflection on the role of the teacher in the foreign language teaching process.

Opis:: This publication presents selected theories relating to the elites who have released their relationship with individuals performing professional roles logistics officers of the Polish Army. Importance of play in the article content relating to the method of recruitment to the military elite. The issue has taken place in areas of interest to researchers in various fields, including social sciences. It seems that factors such state of affairs be found in the constant changes affecting the institution that is the army. The interest is also affected by such external factors, which include situations caused annexation must be part of the territory of Ukraine, as well as the creation of an Islamic state. Presented to demonstrate the necessity of considering the existence of adequate power in societies, boil down to making the most important decisions and related occupied by members of the elite position.

Opis:: This paper argues in favor of two related theses. First, due to a fundamental, biologically grounded world-openness, human culture is a biological imperative. As both biology and culture evolve historically, cultures rise and fall and the diversity of the human species develops. Second, in this historical process of rise and fall, abnormality plays a crucial role. From the perspective of a broader context traditionally addressed by speculative philosophies of history, the so-called mental disorders may be seen as entailing particular functional advantages, and thus have a great impact on the course of human history. Nowadays, however, we live under a threat of cultural uniformity. While the diversity of the human species is cherished at the political level, it is being slowly eradicated through medical means. This paradox is a dangerous feature of contemporary globalized society that can lead to highly problematic consequences.

Opis:: Celem artykułu jest analiza roli społeczno-zawodowej pracownika socjalnego przy uwzględnieniu teorii ról społecznych i zasadniczych elementów roli. Rezultatem analizy jest – zaprezentowany w artykule – model roli społeczno-zawodowej pracownika socjalnego. Artykuł stanowi refleksję naukową w kontekście zadań, oczekiwań i uprawnień, jakie stoją przed pracownikami socjalnymi. Autorka analizuje aktualną literaturę z zakresu socjologii i psychologii społecznej oraz prezentuje dyskusje z jakościowych badań terenowych, przeprowadzonych w okresie od listopada 2020 do stycznia 2021. Badania odbywały się techniką pogłębionych wywiadów indywidualnych, w których wzięli udział pracownicy socjalni z Lublina, Radomia i Puław. W ramach podjętych badań autorka analizuje sposób percepcji roli społeczno-zawodowej przez pracowników socjalnych. Artykuł jest głosem w dyskusji na temat zawodowych ról pracowników pomocy społecznej i zadań, jakie przed nimi stoją. Analiza wyników badań daje sposobność do wskazania potrzeb pracowników socjalnych oraz wyzwań stojących przed systemem, w którym funkcjonuje analizowany zawód.
The goal of the article is to analyze the socio-professional role of a social worker, taking the theory of social roles and the main elements of the role. The result of the analysis is the model of the social and professional role of a social worker presented in the article. The article is a scientific reflection in the context of tasks, expectations and rights that are faced by social workers. The author analyzes the current literature in the field of sociology and social psychology and presents discussions on qualitative field research conducted in the period from November 2020 to January 2021. The research was conducted using the technique of in-depth individual interviews, in which social workers from Lublin, Radom and Puławy participated. As part of the research undertaken, the author analyzes the perception of the social and professional role by social workers. The article is a voice in the discussion on the professional roles of social workers and the tasks they face. The analysis of the research results gives the opportunity to indicate the needs of social workers and the challenges faced by the system in which the profession operates.

The text describes the question of gender roles individualisation and their redefinition in relation to the notion of family. The analysis focuses on a new vision of fatherhood, i.e. a model that allows male care and sensitivity, which translates into active and committed child care (“caring masculinity”). The article is the analysis of selected Internet blogs and portals edited by men – source that will serve as material for reflection on both the condition of the father in contemporary Poland and dilemmas related to this.
