Opis:
The present review deals with parameters influencing the rice breakage during rice milling operations and the effect of rubber roll Sheller in rice husk removal process. The main objective of rice milling system is to remove the husk and bran layer to produce the white rice. In this process, rubber roll sheller is used to remove husk from the grains by friction process. If the rubber material is too soft, there may not be sufficient shear force to husk the paddy. Wear will be minimum for rubber material with high hardness but indeed it pronounce the breakage of rice. Hence, for efficient husking the rubber roll material should possess the balance of physico-mechanical properties. Rice breakage depends on several other parameters like the type of harvest, drying temperature, drying methods, physical characteristics of paddy, husking characteristics, paddy moisture content, rubber roller speed, rubber roll pressure, paddy feed rate and fissures. Rubber roll wear depends on the type of rubber material attached to the roller, feed rate, roller speed, pressure etc.

Opis:
The aim of this research was to study the effects of chemical (CH) and bioproduct (MIC) fertilizers on rice growth (plant height), rice yield (full grains), and the decrease in cadmium (Cd) contents in soil and rice grains. A silty clay loam (SCL) soil for growing rice was prepared in the laboratory, with Cd addition and pH control. The relationship between CH and MIC fertilizer additions in various amounts with the reduction in the Cd contents of soil and rice grains was explored. As a result, the rice growth in the harvest phase and the yield increased from 138.80 ± 5.72 to 888.40 ± 2.38 cm⋅plant-1 and 689 to 888 seeds⋅plant-1, respectively, when the bioproduct was increased from MIC100 (0.625 L⋅ha-1) to MIC500 (3.125 L⋅ha-1). The Cd content in the soil during the harvest phase, 35.53 mg⋅kg-1, which was less than the standard value of 37.00 mg⋅kg-1 defined by the Pollution Control Department (PCD), Thailand, decreased when the bioproduct increased to MIC500. For the Cd contents in polished rice grains, when MIC500 was added, 0.19 mg⋅kg-1 of Cd was accumulated, which is acceptable according to the Codex Committee on Food Additives and Contaminants (CCFAC) threshold of 0.20 mg⋅kg-1 for Cd. Thus, MIC500 was the most effective in reducing the Cd accumulation in soil and rice grains and promoting rice growth among all MIC amounts.

Opis:
An exploratory research was conducted to know genetic parameters and agronomical performance of three bacterial blight resistance genes introgressed segregating population of CB 174 R × IRBB 60, CB 87 R × IRBB 60 and TNAU CMS 2B × IRBB 60 in rice. Higher range of genotypic and phenotypic coefficient of variation (GCV and PCV) was found in CB 87 R × IRBB 60 for the trait of number of grains and leads to develop/selection superior genotypes significantly. For single plant yield, CB 174 R × IRBB 60 cross showed high heritability (83.89%) and (27.45%) genetic advance (%) suggesting that traits were primarily controlled by additive gene action and thus, leads to easy selection. Whereas, estimate of moderate heritability (56.09%) with high genetic advance (24.66%) was found in the cross of CB 87 R × IRBB 60 indicating that postponement of selection and for the cross of TNAU CMS 2B × IRBB 60 showed higher heritability with moderate level of genetic advance (67.36% and 11.84%), revealed that single plant yield was preponderantly governed by both additive and non-additive gene effects and selection may be rewarded.

Opis:
Estimation of selection effects on changes of a trait is of vital importance for the success of any plantbreeding program, and helps to select the desirable breeding method. Heritability and genetic advance areimportant selection parameters, and selection success is a reflectance of selection response. To estimate selectioneffects on rice genetic parameters, a research was conducted using 4 different generations (two parents:Neda and Sadri, and two segregating populations: BC1F1 and BC1S1). After development of a backcross population,a single plant (BC1#4) was selected based on its desirable performance, particularly in heading date andseven other morphological traits. BC1F1 population compared to mid-parent performance showed advance forheading date, plant height, tiller number, hundred seed weight, weight of filled seeds per panicle and grainyield per plant, while mean performance of BC1F1 population compared to BC1S1 population showed advanceonly for heading date, plant height, tiller number and grain yield. Prevalence of additive genetic effects incontrolling panicle weight, hundred seed weight, weight of filled seeds per panicle, plant height and headingdate was observed, and in contrast prevalence of non-additive effects in controlling grain yield was observed.High general heritability was observed for most traits, while only heading date and plant height showeda considerable specific heritability (60.7% and 67.5%, respectively), and grain yield showed a relatively lowspecific heritability (37.0%). High expected genetic advance (ΔGe) was obtained for tiller number (49.4%),followed by grain yield (43.5%) and plant height (35.5%), while the highest real genetic advance (ΔGe) wasobtained for heading date (-8.5%) and tiller number (5.4%). High selection success was obtained only forheading date (51.8%). Altogether, the obtained results gave promise for selecting progenies with early maturityand semi-dwarfism in early segregating generations, while they suggested preference of heterosis for improvementof grain yield.

Opis:
Anther and somatic tissue culture in combination with mutagenesis were carried out to evaluate the efficiency of different mutagenic treatments of various in vitro culture materials, and to obtain some promising variants for rice improvement. Results indicated that in japonica rice radiation treatment of dry seeds and young panicles influenced the percentage of green plantlets regeneration from anther culture. Both treatments increased significantly the percentage of regenerated green plantlets in comparison with the control. Irradiation with 30 Gy of rice callus increased also the percentage of regenerated green plantlets. For indica rice, the combination of the suitable dose of gamma rays irradiation on seeds and an improved medium, increased the percentage of callus induction. This approach made it possible to use anther culture in indica rice breeding. Somatic tissue cultures combined with radiation-induced mutagenesis led to the development of a number of promising mutants including some new cytoplasm-nucleus interacting male-sterile lines with almost 100% stigma exsertion. Their development would be of practical significance for increasing the genetic diversity for production of hybrid rice.

Opis:
The effects of pyriproxyfen were determined on the cellular immunity and phenoloxidase activity in the 4th instar larvae of Chilo suppressalis Walker. The bioassay results revealed the effective concentrations of: 10L : 18C, 30L : 72C and 50L : 190C μg · ml–1. The sole effect of 18 and 72 μg · ml–1 concentrations at intervals of 1–3 h caused a higher number of total hemocytes in the treated larvae than the control, but the reverse results were observed after 6–24 h. The number of plasmatocytes was lower than that of the control for intervals of 3–24 h but the number of granulocytes was higher than the control after 1–3 h although no significant differences were observed at the other times. In the treated larvae, the activities of phenoloxidase were higher and lower than those of the control after 1–3 h and 6–24 h, respectively. The combined effects of pyriproxyfen and the entomopathogenic fungus, Beauveria bassiana isolate B3 caused higher numbers of total hemocytes, plasmatocytes, and granulocytes in the treated larvae by use of the three concentrations of pyriproxyfen, at intervals of 6 and 12 h. Although the numbers of nodules in the larvae treated with concentrations of 18 μg · ml–1 were higher than those of other treatments, the overall numbers were lower than those of the control. Finally, the activity of phenoloxidase in the treated larvae was higher than that of the control, at intervals of 6 and 12 h post-treatment. Findings of the current study indicate an intervening role of pyriproxyfen in the cellular immunity of C. suppressalis to entomopathogenic objects.
