Opis:
The paper focuses on surrogacy regulation, which is diverse across European countries. Four categories of rules can be identified, namely: absence of regulation, regulations allowing surrogacy , regulations that do not allow it with ongoing discussion about allowing it, and regulations under which surrogacy is strictly forbidden. Poland and Ukraine are neighboring countries with radically different regulations on surrogacy. There is no direct regulation on surrogacy in Poland and it can be stated that surrogacy agreements are not valid. IVF procedure is strictly forbidden for surrogacy. Ukraine is an example of the most liberal country when it comes to surrogacy regulation. Surrogacy agreements are regulated and requirements are formulated for surrogate mothers. Ukrainian regulation allows remuneration for surrogate mothers. After the Russian invasion, Ukrainian surrogate mothers came to Poland looking for safety. The Polish state provided extensive support for the Ukrainian people, including specific legal regulation on the right to access health care and employment opportunities. Yet, the Ukrainian surrogacy agreements are not valid in Poland, and the surrogate mothers will be approved as legal mothers.

Artykuł to próba rekonstrukcji relacji między dwoma pojęciami: ‘reprodukcja’ i ’reprezentacja’, które zawiązują się w obrębie dyskursu feministycznego. Analizie poddana zostaje kategoria podmiotu kobiecego, rozpatrywana w kontekście kategorii reprezentacji. Reprodukcja płci społeczno-kulturowej (gender) i prawa reprodukcyjne okazują się elementami decydującymi o nierównym podziale władzy w społeczeństwie.
This article attempts to reconstruct the relationship between the two notions: ‘reproduction’ and ‘representation’, which are formed within the feminist discourse. It is an analysis of the category of female subject, considered in the context of category representation. Reproduction of gender and reproductive rights are the factors which determine the unequal distribution of power in society.

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of Praktyka Teoretyczna journal, we have invited our long-lasting collaborators and comrades to reflect once again on the concept of the com-mon and it’s possible futures by posing the following questions: a) what is the most important aspect of the current struggles for the common?; b) what are the biggest challenges for the commonist politics of the future?; and c) where in the ongoing struggles do you see a potential for scaling-up and spreading organisation based on the com-mon? In his reply, Sandro Mezzadra draws our attention to contemporary struggles around welfare, which push us to reinvent such notions and institutions like public health or education beyond the private and the public.

Opis:
The text undertakes the problematics situated between modernity and tradition regarding the reception of H.A. Giroux’s works in Poland, in a view of furthering the study of pedagogy and educational praxis. First, the author outlines the beginnings of openness towards critical pedagogy. What is underscored here is the 1980s’ main inspiration drawn from the resistance paradigm. Then, the author proceeds to the current state of Giroux’s reception in Poland. He illustrates differences among particular examples and levels of the said reception of Giroux’s pedagogy and of the scholar’s theoretical background. The emphasized disputes pertain especially to transcending metaphysics and relativism as a challenge faced by hermeneutical criticism and critical hermeneutics. Additionally, the “critical” horizon of the main handbook of pedagogy used in Polish universities is discussed. The author point to the wasteful efforts at instigating the breakthrough in the reception of critical pedagogy and he exemplifies them by an instance of misbegotten analysis of the allegedly delayed critical pedagogy of work. As a particularly positive example the author presents a new effort at developing critical hermeneutics (and radical praxis) for pedagogy by Andrzej Wierciński. In the concluding part written “in lieuof conclusions,” four lists of critical problems’ dislocations are provided; the problems are both convergent and related to one another, thereby redefining current research objectives and pertain to practical applications in educational praxis.

The development of technology leads to mechanical reproduction of artworks. This tendency brings the paradox whether mechanical reproduction of artworks enlightens or blinds society. Optimistic perspective of Walter Benjamin and Lippmannian school on reproducibility faces pessimistic view of Theodor Adorno and Max Horkheimer. Thus, the main aim of this paper is to compare W. Lippmann, W. Benjamin, T. Adorno and M. Horkheimer’s views and summarize by checking suitability of two schools’ perspectives in advanced technological century.

Opis:
Based on the collected statistical material, the analysis of population changes in the North Caucasus regions since the last allRussian population census until 2018 was conducted. The article considers the main factors of the current population reproduction, and trends in the dynamics of the population in the North Caucasus were set. Based on the obtained data, the subjects of the North Caucasus are divided into two categories. The first are Russian-speaking regions where the absolute population growth is observed due to a positive migration balance that covers the natural decline of the population. The other category includes mainly national republics with a high natural growth that covers a significant migration outflow of the population. Despite the favorable demographic situation in the region under study, there is a trend towards the end of the demographic boom that is typical of the entire North Caucasus region. In general, there is a stabilization of the birth rate and natural growth, and a decrease in the intensity of migration movements.

Opis:
The main limitation of embryos transfer is the lack of catheters for their obtaining and transferring which would have desirable and confirmed biological properties ensuring high bioconcordance and low toxicity. Catheters used routinely for embryos obtaining and transfer are tools used for insemination, urology and other medical purposes, but their bioconcordance with embryos was never confirmed. For these reasons in our studies we attempted to develop the modern set of catheters designed for the contact with embryos, based on the biomaterial characterized by good biological and mechanical properties such as with optimal resilience and elastic properties, and capable to be free shaped in the form of a tube of 1-2 mm diameter. The material which hypothetically fulfills biological requirements and at the same time gives possibility of free shaping is resorbable polymer used for the long time in many fields of medicine is poly-ε-caprolactone (PCL). Because of its biological and physical properties it was taken into consideration to use this biomaterial for in vitro embryos culture and for cryoconservation. The aim of the study was verification of biological properties of poly-ε-caprolactone (PCL) as the material dedicated to biotechnology of animal reproduction and gynecology and evaluation of possibility of poly-ε-caprolactone (PCL) application as a potential material for production of medical devices, as catheters for obtaining and transporting of embryos as well as dishes for embryos culture in vitro and covers for cryoconservation. The possible application of this biomaterial needs verification of its biological properties on embryos culture. The foil discs made of the polycaprolactone, thickness 0.5 mm, diameter 3.5 mm, were prepared in two forms: the reference one (nPCL) and thermally modified by freezing in liquid nitrogen (mPCL). The verification of PCL bioconcordance was performed by evaluation of 102 pig embryos at the development stage of 2 to 4 blastomers. To evaluate poly-ε-caprolactone bioconcordance 5-day long culture of the embryos was performed on the evaluating material, not frozen (nPCL) and frozen in liquid nitrogen (mPCL) and additionally culture after short contact with poly-ε-caprolactone lasting 15 minutes (nPCL-15). In all evaluated study groups the development of embryos was suppressed shortly after transfer to the culture with PCL. In the control group 74-78% of the embryos reached blastocyst stage. Because of cytotoxic influence of polycaprolacton on embryos it cannot be used as the material for catheter production used in biotechnology of animal reproduction and other materials used for in vitro culture and cryoconservation.

Seven genes (BF, EGF, ESR, FSHB, H2AFZ, LEP and PRLP) were studied as candidate gene influencing eleven reproduction traits (interval between litters (IBL), percent of litter (PL), number of litters (NL), number of piglets born dead (NBD), number of piglet born alive (NBA), total number born (TNB), mean of born alive (MBA), mean of born dead (MBD), mean of born total (MBT), mean of piglets at 21 days of age (M21D) and growth rate (GR) in three pig breeds (Hungarian Large White (HLW), Duroc and Pietrain) by PCR-RFLP. Based on the observed vs. expected genotypes frequencies populations across loci were in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium (P>0.05). In case HLW breed ESR and FSHβ genes were in disequilibrium. Association study suggested that only EGF gene showed significant influence on the trait NBA and TNB. The AA genotype are preferable for sows, associated with higher NBA and TNB. The longest IBL, and the highest NL is associated with AB and AA genotype of EGF gene. IBL is significantly shorter in case of pigs with AB and AA alleles than BB alleles of PRLP genes. Selection for these SNPs could improve the reproductivity in the studied breeds.

The article presents four perspectives on the family. In the intergenerational perspective a family is an institution of biological and cultural reproduction. Family in the perspective of the life cycle is a dynamically changing structure of “problems to solve” associated with life cycle: socialization, mating, parenting and post reproductive phase. Each phase substantially changes the structure of interests, available resources and the nature of social relationships. Family in the system of social stratification is associated with the distribution of scarce resources. The family as a system of social interaction is a complex dynamic unit which stabilizes the basic structure of the moral code (attitudes of loyalty and trust).

Opis:
By duplicating the binaural pressures of an actual source, transaural reproduction with two frontal loudspeakers is expected to recreate a virtual source in arbitrary direction. However, experiments indicated that in static transaural reproduction, the perceived virtual source is usually limited to the frontal-horizontal plane. The reasons for this limitation, as guessed, are that, in static reproduction, the dynamic cues for front-back and vertical localisation are incorrect, and the high-frequency spectral cues are unstable with head movement. To validate this hypothesis, the variations of ITD (interaural time difference) caused by head turning in both static and dynamic transaural reproductions are analysed. The results indicate that dynamic reproduction is able to create appropriate low-frequency ITD variations, and the static transaural reproduction is unable to do so. Psychoacoustic experiments are conducted to compare virtual source localisation in static and dynamic reproductions. The results indicate that dynamic reproduction is able to recreate the front, back, and vertical virtual source for low-pass stimuli below 3 kHz, while for full audible bandwidth stimulus, appropriate low-frequency dynamic cue and unstable high-frequency spectral cues in dynamic reproduction result in two splitting virtual sources. Therefore, the results of present work prove the limitations of static transaural reproduction.
