Opis:
As the importance of reflective teaching is increasingly acknowledged, the need for its assessment is seen more essential. This study designed and validated a scale measuring reflective teaching in an EFL context. In doing so, a test comprising of 24 scenarios in a multiple-choice format was developed and administered to 120 Iranian EFL teacher participants. The scale’s reliability was obtained to be 0.75 using Cronbach’s alpha. In order to determine the construct validity of the tentative test, it was subjected to a series of factor analysis. The findings showed that the newly designed test could be used to measure reflective teaching. Some implications were suggested in the context of language teaching.

Opis:
Being reflective is one of the most paramount features that EFL (English as a Foreign Language) teachers need to be equipped with in the post-method era for their professional growth and development. The present study aimed to explore reflective teaching from a multi-dimensional perspective in terms of a) determinants that simulates teachers to reflect, b) consequences that teachers experience as a result of their reflective teaching, and c) obstacles that may arise and preclude teachers from reflective teaching. Qualitative data collection method was employed to gather data from 10 EFL teachers triangulating semi-structured interviews, diaries, journal, and observation. Data analysis via MAXQDA led to the emergence of three models for each dimension of the study. The results revealed that teachers not only reflect to respond to a problem, but also they reflect to diminish some negative factors like stress or anxiety on the part of both learners and themselves as well as improving, enhancing, or mending something in teaching or learning. The codes of determinants were also conceptualized into three broad categories of reflection-in-action, reflection-on-action, and reflection-for-action with the reflection-for-action used more frequently by the teachers. In the case of consequences, the codes were classified into two categories of internal and external consequences. It was also concluded that some of the consequences reinforce the reflective teaching and play the role of determinants motivating teachers to reflect again. Regarding the obstacles, after categorizing the codes into external and internal obstacles, it was observed that external factors are more robust.

Opis:
The ultimate goal of this paper is to investigate the pedagogical views and attitudes of Moroccan high school teachers towards Method-based pedagogy. It attempts to investigate the extent to which teachers are satisfied with and committed to conventional methods. Also, the paper aims at investigating the alternative practices teachers are more likely to resort to in order to compensate for the limitations of conventional methods. In addition to this, a further objective of this study is to investigate the extent to which pre-service teacher training programs in Morocco are aware of the challenges of the post-method era. This is measured through their awareness of the requirements of the post-method era and the extent to which teacher trainers concern themselves with equipping the prospective teachers with the necessary skills to be reflective researchers and responsibly eclectic teachers. In this respect, the data collection instruments opted for in the present study ranged from quantitative to qualitative in nature. The findings reveal that the vast majority of Moroccan high school teachers (P=78%) are dissatisfied with conventional methods and - (P=96%) of them- are not committed to one or two teaching methods. The vast majority report that they resort to an eclectic approach to language teaching due to the impracticality and inflexibility of the established methods. Most teachers (P=80%) admit that they use a random eclecticism as they rely mainly on their intuitive rather than principled judgments. In this regard, interviews with teacher trainers and supervisors also reveal that pre-service teacher training programs in Morocco limit themselves only to training the prospective teachers to use methods and approaches without training them to be responsibly eclectic. The findings also show that the majority of teachers do, to some extent, know about classroom research; however, they - (P=72%) of them- have never conducted it inside their classrooms. The teachers (P=57%) attribute this to the lack of financial support and to the fact that they are not well-trained to conduct research inside their classrooms. Finally, the results of this study imply many suggestions of which we mention: the introduction of a post-method pedagogy in the Moroccan pre-service teacher training programs, equipping teachers with the methodological tools necessary as well as supporting them financially to conduct classroom-research for the purpose of constructing teaching methodologies that suit the needs to the very specific students and contexts within which they work.

This article explores the concept of teacher professionalism, focusing primarily on factors motivating teachers to pursue professional development within the framework of formal, organized teacher development programmes offered by educational institutions. Its major purpose is to contribute to a better understanding of motivational issues involved in teacher education, or teacher learning, as it is sometimes referred to. Its other purpose is to liven up a discussion concerning language teacher education as a life-long experience. The article consists of two parts: its theoretical sections focus on the notions of professionalism and a professional, together with the concepts of autonomy and reflection/reflective practice, which are crucial from the point of view of teacher development. Next, factors motivating teachers to continue their development both as professionals and as individuals are addressed. The second part presents and discusses results of a small-scale individual research project which yielded some interesting data pertaining to motivational issues involved in teacher learning.

Being a reflective teacher is a highly appreciated quality of a good teacher. Reflection is considered to be essential in the job of teaching since it prompts to modify and improve the process of teaching and learning. As experts suggest reflective skills can be practiced and developed due to various teacher education models, programs and techniques. One of the techniques is a teacher portfolio that can consist of many tasks provoking teachers and teacher-trainees to reflect on their teaching. This article presents some research on the content of English teacher-trainees’ reflection and their metareflection. The research outcome provides some knowledge of what they reflect upon, if they do at all, and whether they perceive reflection as valuable in the process of learning teaching.

The paper presents the results of a telecollaborative project between BA students of the University of Warsaw and students of the University of Valladolid within the framework of the European Erasmus+ EVALUATE project. The aim of that project is to justify the effectiveness of telecollaborative activities for professional development of future language teachers. The experience confirms that initial intercultural competence is essential for undertaking such a project. It also validates the need for blending professional preparation of language teachers so that they realize that the teaching methods and pedagogical approaches which are introduced in their pre-service courses are very similar or even the same irrespectively where they get their qualifications. Such blended learning activities are complementary to national teacher training programs and to Erasmus+ students exchange projects.

The study was conducted to explore teachers’ attitudes towards reflective practice in public and private sector at the higher secondary level. Objectives of the study were to investigate teachers’ attitude about the need for reflective practice in teaching and to explore teachers’ attitudes towards the use of reflective practice for understanding students’ learning difficulties. It was a descriptive study done in the Pakistani context. For this purpose, the researcher developed a questionnaire to find out teachers’ attitudes towards reflective practice. Data was collected through the stratified random sampling technique from 300 teachers teaching higher secondary classes of private and public sector higher secondary schools/ colleges. The analysis of the data was made by applying mean, SD (standard deviation), t-test and ANOVA (analysis of variance) through SPSS (statistical package for social sciences). The findings showed that teachers of both the public and private sectors did not realize the need for reflective practice at the higher secondary level for understanding students’ learning difficulties. It was recommended that teachers of the public and private sector may be aware of reflective practice through training programs. Strategies of reflective practice are supposed to be used by teachers in the teaching learning process. It is suggested that reflective practice may be mentioned in the syllabus of the training course. The findings of the presented study have implication for teachers and curriculum developers of professional development programs.

The text presents the theoretical framework of the Project ‘Poznać – Zrozumieć – Doświadczyć’ (Learn – Comprehend – Experience) implemented by the University of Lodz. The main aim of the project was for students, academic teachers and researchers to develop a space for mutual learning and education, the major purpose of which was to establish a constructive relationship between pedagogical theory and practice. The space is intended to allow for profound reflection, understood as consideration, inquiry and deliberation of issues from various points of view and perspectives; the reflection in action and on action, which reveals the complexity of a learning act, presents the importance of various individual receptions of the same educational situations and their individual interpretations. This reflection should also create an opportunity to gain personal knowledge that facilitates the comprehension of educational events. Such a reflection is, in my opinion, a prerequisite for the development of a student’s research approach and then also a teacher’s. Due to this reflection the world ceases to be perceived as a sustained and harmonious structure and becomes a set of questions, an area of research and practical uncertainty. The reflection also supports creativity and transgression that results in an individual crossing the borders of what has already been learnt or mastered.

W oparciu o arkusze obserwacyjne wypełniane przez studentów zaobserwowano u nich zmiany w dwóch obszarach: refleksji dotyczącej obserwacji lekcji i refleksyjnego podejścia do własnej praktyki, czyli samodzielnie prowadzonego procesu dydaktycznego.
Modelling is an effective strategy for devel opment of students’ teaching skills. It can, however, serve for "educating the reflective practitioner" (Schön, 1987). The paper describes the action research conducted by the author, whose aim was to support the process of developing the reflectiveness in students. The research used the observation sheets filled in by students, and led to observation in two areas: reflection during lesson observation and reflective approach to own practice- independent teaching. As a result, large changes appeared also in the academic teacher’s practice.

Everyday life in teaching profession is both satisfaction, contentment, happiness and defeat, helplessness, impotency in the face of surrounding educational reality. However the feeling of helplessness does not need to lead a teacher to a final statement of incongruity of taking certain actions and refraining from taking steps. Maybe it also should become a special opportunity for reflection which will allow the teacher discover their own, so far unknown possibilities, re-credit optimism and willingness to strive for goals. It is the teacher’s ability to take up reflective mind as a tool of combat against helplessness which should be taken special care of in the process of academic education.

The theoretical basis of the teaching practice model is based on the tradition of praxis, critical theory and the psychopedagogics of creativity. Teacher’s actions are determined by the knowledge of a reflective – critical praxis and are understood to be wise and ethical, requiring application and interpretation of the theory. In their teaching practice, teachers should use both instrumental knowledge, that is téchnē and create new and valuable solutions. All this should begin with the very first teaching experiences of the students, especially in the real-life situations offered by the teaching practice. This means the process of education in the practices should be organized by an academic teacher (practice teacher). The idea is that students do not learn directly from their practice, but progress in their teaching practice from the application of theory to creation and verification of their own, new and valuable solutions. The Practice teacher supports students by organizing group and individual educational dialogue and pedagogical discourse on the practice material, and learning through research and action. The effectiveness of the teaching practice is determined by research conducted by an academic teacher using a variety of qualitative research techniques.

The aim of the article is to show the process of studying young people remotely and to search for solutions leading to the improvement of the process in the perspective of deep and reflective learning. The article aims to solve the problem: how is the process of studying young people remotely? The method of individual cases, the technique of uncategorized, in-depth interview, was used to solve the problem. In the theoretical part, attention was paid to understanding the process of studying in the light of various didactic paradigms and an attempt was made to outline the approach of a deep and reflective learning process, looking for ways to improve the process of studying young people in this perspective. In the empirical part, the course of the process of studying the respondents remotely was presented, highlighting, above all, the components to which the respondents drew attention in their statements. The analysis of the empirical material shows that the process of studying young people is understood surface, superficially, it is limited to taking actions offered by the university on the educational platform. Students do not use their potential in the process of studying, they do not show full, possible commitment. The analysis of the empirical material leads to the development of practical guidelines aimed at improving the process of studying young people, which result from the assumptions of deep and reflective learning. The research shows the need to focus attention on the process of studying and its effectiveness, the need to take action by academic teachers, and above all by students focused on improving the process.
Do rozwiązania problemu wykorzystano metodę indywidualnych przypadków, technikę wywiadu nieskategoryzowanego, pogłębionego.
