Opis:
While reconstructing partially exploited boreholes located in south-eastern part of Poland there were several issues. Standard procedures were not efficient enough to fulfil the requirements for fluid to work properly. This enforced investor to turn to the Faculty of Drilling, Oil and Gas AGH UST Krakow for assistance in developing special formula for working fluid. Major requirements set for reconstruction fluid were to: inhibit hydration of loam rocks, reduce corrosion of casing and tubing and decrease filtrate loss which maintained at a high level. Therefore, the Faculty of Drilling, Oil and Gas AGH UST Krakow developed and compared various reconstruction fluids' formulas to eliminate encountered complications. The article also concentrates on studying the samples collected from the borehole and presents conclusions based on laboratory tests. Analyses of the research results expose best working solution for eliminating the issues that came across during reconstruction of the borehole.

Opis:
The aim of the studywas to evaluate the efficacy of different microvascular techniques in breast reconstruction with the analysis of postoperative complications. The additional goal of the study is to analyze the quality of life of patients after microvascular breast reconstruction in comparison to the control group of patients who underwent only mastectomy without any reconstructive procedures. Also the algorithm of breast reconstruction is presented as the result of own experiences. Material and methods.Clinical material contain 2 groups of patients - women after surgical treatment in Department of Oncological and Reconstructive Surgery, Cancer Center in Gliwice in the year 2004-2009 where in 53 cases immediate and in 26 delayed breast microvascular reconstruction were performed. In all cases the diagnosis of cancer was proved by histopathological biopsy before the treatment. The type of radical resection (mastectomy) depended on histopathological type of cancer and its localization. The reconstruction - immediate vs delayed was carefully planned together with oncological treatment of the cases. Everywhere this plan was established based on carefully examinations of inferior epigastric vessels and theirs perforators. The choice between immediate and delayed microvascular reconstruction was based on prognosis and predictive factors. The QOL was analyzed due to own questionnaire when functional, aesthetics and social effects were evaluated. ResultsFree flap survival rate for all types of free flap was 95%. In cases where classic TRAM was used the rate was 85%, in cases where muscle sparring TRAM was chosen the survival rate was 100% and in remaining cases of DIEP reconstructions the rate was 89%. Generally the complications after microvascular reconstruction occurred in 13 cases (16%). In 9 cases the problems with flaps perfusion were notified. Total flap necrosis was observed in 2 TRAM and in 2 DIEP cases. In all those cases salvage surgery was administered in which the microanastomoses were explored and repaired. In 5 cases the cause of the complications was venous thrombosis, in 2 cases the vascular pedicle was kinked, and in remaining 1 the arterial thrombosis was found. The second type of complication was fat necrosis (<25% of flap volume) which was observed in 5 cases between 1 and 4 months after surgery, and it request minor plastic surgery. Donor site complications were noted in 4 cases. In two of those hernia in cicatrices was diagnosed (both were classic TRAM’s), in remaining 2 in which also fully muscle TRAM was classic the weakness of abdominal wall was observed. In group were msTRAM and DIEP were used no donor site complications occurred.

Reconstruction of the cardiovascular system: The aim of the work is to minimize thrombus formation life threatening in the pulsatile heart assist chamber, by the use of a new biomimetic heart valve made on the basis metal-polymer composites. The heart prostheses are dedicated to support the heart of patients with late heart disease failure. They are dedicated to therapy related to self-regeneration or as a bridge for transplantation. In the future, they will be able to help treatment with gene therapy for myocardial infarction. Systems with valves mechanically generate plaque activation by shear stress. This is due to the narrow gap that is between the petal and the ring. Composite materials and a new valve design can minimize this problem. Injected polyurethane with a metallic, titanium bonded insert optimal microscale flexibility with macro-stiffness for ensuring appropriate mechanical functions of the valve.

Opis:
The thickness correction resulting from gravitational compaction is one of the significant parameters in the reproduction of the palaeothickness of sedimentary complexes in palaeotectonic reconstructions. Changes of sediment thickness during burial caused by compaction are taken into account in the calculation of a thickness correction. The reconstruction of the layer thickness may be based on a quantitative interpretation of absolute porosity changes. Here, an original method of introducing a compacted thickness correction is developed in which two components, a syn-genetic one and a post-genetic one, are separated and the continuous process of compaction during the burial of sediments is taken into account. The proposed approach is simple; however, a detailed determination of the palaeothickness of the layers during their burial involves computer calculations. In this paper the method is described and the computation algorithm is given. Some results of modelling and computations carried out for real data from the eastern part of the Polish Carpathians and Pomeranian Swell are also given. Examples illustrate changes in the recent thickness of layers after introducing the compaction correction.

The aim of the study was evaluation of the correlation between selected personality traits in women after mastectomy and their decision on breast reconstruction. Material and methods. The study was conducted between 2013‑2015, in the Department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery, Medical University of Lodz, and Department of Oncological and Breast Surgery, CZMP. Comparative analysis comprised 40 patients, in whom mastectomy and breast reconstruction was done, and 40 women after breast amputation, who did not undergo reconstructive surgery. Basing on self-constructed questionnaire, five features of personality were evaluated in these women: pursue of success in life, ability to motivate others, openness to other people, impact of belonging to a social group on sense of security and the importance of opinion of others about the respondent. Apart from the questionnaire, in both groups of women a psychologic tool was used (SUPIN S30 and C30 tests) to determine the intensity of positive and negative emotions. Results. Women who did not choose the reconstructive option were statistically significantly older at mastectomy than women who underwent breast reconstruction. There were statistically significant differences between both groups in response to question on being open to other people and value of other people’s opinion. The differences in responses to question on the impact of belonging to a social group on personal sense of safety were hardly statistically significant. In psychometric studies there were significant differences in responses to SUPIN C30 test for negative emotions and S-30 for positive emotions. The level of negative emotions – feature of group A was in 47.5% in the range of high scores and in 47.5% within low and low-average scores. Among women from group B 57.5% had high scores, while 37.5% low and average scores. There were significant differences in the results of positive emotions evaluation in S-30. Women who did not undergo breast reconstruction usually had high scores, while those who decided on reconstructive surgery usually had low scores and low-high scores. Conclusions. 1. The decision on breast reconstruction after mastectomy is connected with personality features of patients. Introvert women, who base their self-opinion on opinion of others and their sense of security on belonging to a social group, rarely choose to undergo breast reconstruction. 2. Younger patients after mastectomy more frequently choose the breast reconstructive option. 3. A special algorithm of medical and psychological care in patients after mastectomy should be created to improve their further quality of life.

The contemporary ‘face’ of Bruno Schulz is a result of the collaboration between several visions as well as the specific relation between presence and absence. To a large extent, this fact allows the treatment of Schulz’s reconstructed image not as the static whole, but rather as a dynamic and open identity, defined not only by the biographical reconstructions, but also by its fragmentation and incompleteness. One of the questions that the article evokes is, whether absence can serve as a factor in decoding Schulz’s nature.

Wieliczka Salt Mine
Opis:
Preserving such unique objects as the “Wieliczka” Salt Mine for the future generations is an obvious obligation. Water is the biggest threat to this object and many similar ones. At the last stage or even in the course of mine exploitation salt mines are flooded as this is the simplest method of their liquidation applied worldwide. However this method cannot be used in the “Wieliczka” Salt Mine , which was put on the UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage list in 1978. Geological and hydrogeological conditions in the Dunajewski gallery are presented in this paper. The Dunajewski gallery is localized directly east of the Mina gallery, where a catastrophic water flux was observed in 1992, threatening the mine with flooding and with considerable damage on the surface. Authors describe the pipeline injection method which was used in that situation. This was a fast and economic method thanks to which the Dunajewski gallery and the adjoining leaching gallery could be efficiently and tightly filled. Specialist recipes for sealing slurry had to be worked out. The slurry was prepared in an injection column elevated in the neighborhood of the Kościuszko shaft and then transported with special pipelines through the Kościuszko shaft and some workings to the Dunajewski gallery. In this way the off-side safety pillar in the area of the Dunajewski gallery was reconstructed.

Opis:
Side scan and synthetic aperture sonars are widely used imaging systems in the underwater environment. They are relatively cheap and easy to deploy, in comparison with more powerful sensors, like multibeam echosounders. Although side scan and synthetic aperture sonars does not provide seafloor bathymetry directly, their records are finally related to seafloor images. Moreover, the analysis of such images performed by human eye allows creating semi-spatial impressions of seafloor images obtained from side scan sonar echograms. In the paper, some techniques for 3D seafloor shape reconstruction from side scan and synthetic aperture sonars are presented. They are based on Shape From Shading (SFS) approach, which is one of classical problems in computer vision. The method for reconstruction of 3D seafloor relief using the information from both the currently processed and previous ping is presented. The advantage of the presented methods is their simplicity and the ability to produce the results within sequential, i.e. “one run” processing of side scan sonar image. Another algorithm relies on estimating the altitude gradient of the insonified surface from sonar data, combined with the use of dimension of shadow areas for estimation of the current elevation change. The presented results are promising and also show to some extent how the performance of the proposed algorithm might be improved in further investigation.

Opis:
In this article an application of neural networks to the reconstruction of unknown physical quantities in particle physics is presented. As an example the mass reconstruction of the hypothetical Higgs boson in the typical high energy physics experiment is used. Monte Carlo events are used to determine the probability distributions of observables (energies of two jets and the angle between them) for various Higgs boson mass, which are later fitted using a Neural Network. These distributions are used to determine the mass probability distribution of the measured particle. The mass is reconstructed without knowing the functional dependence between the observables and the measured quantity. The miscalibration of the measured quantities is automatically corrected in this method.

In the article the social and economic transformation of Afghanistan is examined in a historical perspective. The author notices that Afghanistan's trajectory of development, since the modernization of the country began in the 19th century, has eventually produced the state of so-called 'Dutch disease', that is, a relationship between the increase in exploitation of natural resources and a demise of the manufacturing sector. In the Afghani case, the natural resources' responsible for halting industrialization are narcotics (opium), on the global exports of which the entire local economy became strictly dependent. The author names number of reasons behind such a direction of development, including political, economic, an cultural factors but remains skeptical about possible ways out of that developmental trap.
