Opis:
INTRODUCTION: A recent survey by the Association of Schools of Public Health in the European Region asserts that European public health programmes lack modernity and do not provide adequate leadership education. Aim of the study - to assess leadership competences in a group of Public Health students at the Faculty of Health Sciences of the Medical University of Warsaw in Poland. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A total of 178 students: 84 third-year first-cycle students and 94 second-year secondcycle students of Public Health at the Faculty of Health Sciences of the Medical University of Warsaw, Poland. An 80% survey return rate; 153 women. Mean age 23.29 years (min. 22, max. 37, SD: 3.060).The PAPI method; voluntary participation; standardized anonymous Authentic Leadership Self-Assessment (SAP) questionnaire; 16 items on a Likert scale of 1 (completely disagree) to 5; four dimensions: 1. Self-awareness, 2. Ethics/morality, 3. Openness to feedback and 4. Transparency in relationships; high score: 16-20 points, low score: 15 points or less; Cronbach's alpha coefficient: 0.710; descriptive statistics. RESULTS: In the study group, 54% of students demonstrated a high level of leadership competences (16-20 points) in the dimension of Self-awareness (S). Most students obtained a low score (15 points or less) in the dimensions of: Ethics/morality - 55%, Openness to feedback - 58% and Transparency in relationships - 75%, which means a low level of the competences in question. CONCLUSIONS: The level of leadership skills in the study group was low, which is why, since the academic year 2017/2018, the first- and second- cycle study programmes have included courses on psychosocial skills. This may, in the future, promote the development and refinement of leadership skills, in line with the expectations of most employers. Due to the fact that the presented research is of a pilot nature, it will be continued in the following years in order to assess the impact of changes in the curricula on the improvement of students' leadership skills.

Opis:
Objectives:  This study aimed to explore the influence of the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics on physical activity motivation and behaviour among spectators. Methods: The sample comprised 1851 spectators (mean age 36.6±12.7 years). Participants were asked via intercept surveys whether the Olympics changed or will change their desire to engage in regular physical activity, and whether they had increased their physical activity. Findings: 60.2% reported changes in their desire to engage in regular physical activity and 51.6% increased their physical activity. Those under 55 years of age were significantly more likely to change their desire to engage in regular physical activity (OR 1.54, 95% CI 1.14 to 2.08). Non-Brazilians (versus Brazilians) were significantly more likely to report a change in their desire to engage in regular physical activity, and to have increased their physical activity (OR 1.28, 95% CI 1.05 to 1.57; OR 1.40, 1.15 to 1.71, respectively). Conclusions: While previous studies have found no relationship between Olympics and population physical activity, our findings suggest that the Olympics may provide a unique opportunity to improve levels of physical activity.

Opis:
The article looks at the issue of public health understood as an important factor of production. The author also analyzes the impact of the population’s health on economic growth. Korporowicz discusses a variety of approaches to public health, with a particular emphasis on a socioeconomic approach. She highlights the economic aspect of health as a component of human capital that creates the basis for examining living conditions and socioeconomic development. Health also needs to be evaluated for the purposes of economic calculations in the area of health protection policies, the author says. Such evaluations are used to determine the costs of health insurance, for example in the case of car accidents. The author counters a popular belief that the level of human capital is exclusively associated with education and public spending on education. According to Korporowicz, the health status of the population influences the level of human capital, while healthcare needs to be treated as a major socioeconomic category. Health is a resource that is subject to wear and can be enhanced and partly replenished by adequate investment. It plays an increasingly important role in the structure of production. Without it, uninhibited economic growth is impossible, the author argues. Korporowicz sets out to prove that health and healthcare can be analyzed in terms of the theory of public goods. Health is an asset that can be used in a specific way, the author says, but its benefits cannot be directly accessed through the market; nor is health subject to competition because the more health there is among individuals, the more society benefits as a whole. This is what sets public goods apart from private goods, which means that the idea of analyzing health on the basis of the public goods theory is justified, the author argues. It needs to be assumed that economic growth is impossible without a healthy and efficiently functioning innovative and creative society, Korporowicz adds. In modern economies, economic efficiency strongly depends on the intellectual potential and health of the population, the author concludes.

Opis:
Desirable sound of music has a wide range of psychological and physiological beneficial health effect among diverse population in different conditions. Research for example showed when music is selected according to its motivational qualities, the positive impact on performance (e.g., increased endurance) and psychological states (e.g., enhanced affect) are even greater, which has important implications for exercise adherence in male and female participants. On the other hand, healing sounds have always been considered in the past an important aid in medical practice, and nowadays, medicine has confirmed the efficacy of music therapy in clinical setting and in aging population. It seems healing harmony as a source of inspiration in science is an effective approach to improve quality of life in different individuals. Hence, music intervention as an easily, inexpensive, noninvasive approach to improve public health is notably recommended
