Assessment of vocabulary size – a new tool for testing preschool childrenThe paper presents the first phase of research aimed at the construction of Picture Vocabulary Test (part I – Comprehension; OTS-R). Development of a mental lexicon is one of the basic components of linguistic and communicative competence (Michnick-Golinkoff et al., 2000; Hall and Waxman, 2004). Vocabulary size affects other aspects of language acquisition e.g. grammar (Dale et al., 2000; Dionne et al., 2003). Presented measure aims at the assessing word comprehension in preschool Polish children. In this phase of research, 351 children (age 2–6) took part in the study. Word comprehension was assessed by a picture choice task. Children were presented with a series of four pictures charts, each containing pictures depicting a target word (noun, verb, or adjective) and three distractors related to the target word phonetically, semantically, and thematically. Results show a gradual increase of vocabulary with age, better understanding of verbs over nous and adjectives, and a greater proportion of semantic errors over the other two types of errors. The study enabled the preparation of a new version of assessment tool which is going to be used in the subsequent phase of the research (norming study).

Introduction: The preschool age is reasonably considered as the most significant period in the process of a child's body formation. It is at this particular age that the foundation is laid for personal health and physical qualities necessary for efficient participation in various spheres of social life in the future. The aim of this study is to get a knowledge about the dynamics and level of physical fitness in three- to sixyear-old children. Material and methods: The study was carried out on the basis of pre-school institutions of Lviv and Lviv region in 2017. Altogether 1188 preschool children (n=1188) were involved in the research, including 418 children of junior preschool age (3 to 4 years old), 350 middleaged preschoolers (4 to 5 years old) and 420 senior preschoolers (5 to 6 years old). Methods of research applied were as follows: analysis and systematization of scientific publications, educational experiment, educational testing, educational observations, Student's t-test, parametric statistics methods. Results: It has been found that with age the examined sample of children displays gradual improvement of all physical fitness characteristics. The findings testify to intensive and heterochronic development of children's motor qualities in the process of their ontogenesis. Conclusion: General physical fitness level of the majority of the examined children could be estimated as satisfactory and corresponding to the appropriate age standards. Our findings supplement the data on application of the available informative tests for preschooler's physical fitness assessment.

Karate classes can positively affect the health of children and develop body and soul harmoniously. The purpose of the work is to examine the influence of physical ed ucation classes with a priority in application of oriental martial arts on the physical and psychophysical preparedness of preschool boys (n=71). Assessment of physical and psycho -physical preparedness for children was performed with the set of tests ( stan ding long jump , throws of the ball against the wall and catching it , flexion and extension of arms lying on the floor , jumping with a rope to fatigue , raising of the body from the initial supine position , squats, writing the letter “O”, claps, pronouncing of digits, keeping the “Flamingo” pose). The children from the experimental group (n=33) were trained by the program with the priority in application of karate. Children from control group had Physical Education classes according Ukrainian State program fo r preschooler children “Sure Start”. The physical state and the level of psycho -physical fitness were rated as average. The implementation of the physical education program with the priority in application of karate has proven its higher efficacy compared to the traditional one. The program contributed significantly to raising the level of physical and mental fitness, overall assessment increased from 3.0 to 4.8 points in the experimental group. Better discipline, greater attention, higher mental capacity and less fatigue of children who attended the author’s program confirm that the classes with the priority of karate application can promote the full readiness of children for school.

The main purpose of the present article is to introduce a topic related to the development of interpersonal trust among children and adolescents. Although this subject, since the beginnings of psychology considered as an academic discipline, has been regarded as an essential component of human functioning, there are still very few theoretical and empirical studies that approach the issue from a developmental point of view. In this paper the three-dimensional conceptualization of interpersonal trust is provided. Furthermore, the article highlights the past and current theoretical and empirical research on the development of interpersonal trust in infants, preschool and school-age children. Finally, some challenges are presented in the field of interpersonal trust studies.

Linguistic creativity is a form of children’s activity that involves the creation of new words not found in adult language. The period of specific speech is the moment of the most intensive development of vocabulary – this is the time of the final formation of the language system. The linguistic creativity and cognitive activity of preschool children has a significant impact on the increase in the number of new forms created by them, which are neologisms. In this article the author discusses the ways of creating neologisms and neosemantisms by children aged 3–6 years.

Opis:
Currently, pedagogical assistance to children with severe craniocerebral trauma (TCMT) is an actual problem not only in healthcare, but also in special needs education. The aim of this research was to identify leading factors in the structure of mental activity in children with severe craniocerebral trauma (TCMT). The experiment involved 65 preschool children as participants (28 of them girls and 37 boys). The following research methods were used: observation of a child, psychological and pedagogical examination. According to clinical rates, all participating children had a combined type of severe craniocerebral injury. The majority of children were in a vegetative state. A scientific examination of the children was carried out over one year in the period of the early stages of hospital rehabilitation. The results showed a disharmonious distribution of the factors load in the structure of mental activity, depending on the severity of its manifestations in the early stages of rehabilitation. Despite a similar diagnosis of TCMT in terms of clinical parameters, three groups of factors were distinguished: the first factor encompasses characteristics that reflect the emotional-sensory level of mental activity; the second factor combines elementary arbitrary movements and actions, combined with involuntary manifestations, which may indicate difficulties in understanding the meaning of the speech addressed to the child; the third factor is saturated with the characteristics of arbitrary actions associated with the perception and purposefulness of movements and actions. This is supported by socially important forms of behavior of the child and an accessible way of communicating with the adult in a particular subject game or everyday situation. Although similar looking severe consequences of craniocerebral trauma are being demonstrated, the mental activity in patients in the study group had different manifestations depending on the prevailing factors. It was possible to differentiate the content of the educational training of patients in a variety of hospital rehabilitation activities.

Opis:
The interactive process involving play as a main component of children’s activities enables children to identify existing knowledge, skills and abilities, and to enhance and enrich them with new cognitive elements. Outdoor play is certainly an inspiration for a child’s holistic development. Children have the opportunity for motor, psychological and cognitive development in an environment that provides countless situations that are changing due to constant natural variations that occur under the infl uence of meteorological changes, changes in plant and animal life. Along with the above elements, it is necessary to add an element of risky play that is equally important in the process of childhood education and learning. Today’s overprotection of children by parents has taken away the segment of risky play, which is an important element of childhood. Parents’ attitude towards risky play also defi nes the attitude of kindergarten teachers who, under the pressure of parents, create an artifi cial environment in which a child is unable to explore this important segment of play, or take risks in their activities, decisions and procedures. That exact segment is the subject of this research, which aims to explore the opinions of the future kindergarten teachers about risky play and their attitude towards it. The research was conducted through a questionnaire in which students of their 3rd year of undergraduate studies and 1st year of graduate studies of early and pre-school education took part. According to the results of this research, we have observed the need for changes in the education of future kindergarten teachers. This can be done by expanding the content related to the Outdoor Curriculum and risky play.
