Migrations constitute nowadays important and actual problem. The subject of the study are internal migrations among subregions (NUTS3) in province slaskie, considered from the spatial point of view. There are applied econometric migration models, i.e. gravitation and distance models, for inflow as well as for outflow of the migrants in subregions; an attempt was undertaken to indicate the factors influencing the level of migration in the province. It turned out that the most important factor for migrants flow are distances among the subregions. Unemployment rate in subregions seemed to hinder the migration processes while high level of wages and incomes stimulated them. Positive balance of migration was characteristic for low industrialized subregions, located in the periphery of the province, while in subregions of high level of industry the migration balance was negative.

In view of globalization process analysis of migration forms important and actual problem. The paper presents the results of statistic, econometric and demographic analysis of migration processes in Silesia province in Poland in 2010. Especially taken into account was problem of negative migration balance in the province, caused, as stated, by decreasing influx to the Silesia province from the others. There were estimated migration models of influx and outflow of the migrants. Finally, it has been stated that some of the migration laws formed in XIX century by E.G. Ravenstein are still actual in Poland, among others the law of relation between the level of migration and its distance, and the law of opposite flows of migration, while the law of higher migration of urban (vs. rural) inhabitants was no longer valid.

In the middle of last century, international migration in Europe have become a factor which significantly began to affect the population and its rate of change. International Movements in the north-west Europe significantly influenced the growth of population in the countries of southern slow decline in population, in the case of Eastern Europe accelerated decline in population. From the perspective of long-term, we see how the ethnic and cultural face of Europe. Is our country, we can expect similar changes in migration? This article presents the current and future trend in international migration in selected EU countries.

Migrations of people from the Opole province to European Union countries, especially to Germany and the Netherlands have a significant impact on the labour market situation in the region. Analysis of the structure of unemployment in the Opole province, according to some socio-demographic characteristics, shows that the problem of unemployment threatens people in the specific situation on the labour market - young people under 25 years of age, people with low professional qualifications, or those who don't have any qualifications. A high percentage of unemployed women and long-termed unemployed people is observed. However, in the context of migration processes, there are clear spatial variations in size and structure of unemployment in the Opole province, which are closely linked to ethnicity of the population. The population of Silesia, which has dual nationality - Polish and German, since the early 90s of the last century has been leaving for a profit to the west of Europe. In the areas inhabited by this population the unemployment rate is much lower, which is associated with migration for economic reasons, but on the other hand these trips have contributed to the depletion of labour forces in terms of quantity and quality. Many local labour markets for many years have been struggling with a shortage of skilled labour force. Polish accession to the European Union made it possible to work abroad, which resulted in a further increase in international migration, and thus is reflected in the labour market situation in the region. Currently it is estimated that approximately 150 thousand of the Opole province residents stay abroad.

Demographic processes and migration processes depend on the evolution of social and economic factors of the region, and therefore the main objective of the research was to assess the socio-economic development of Polish regions (provinces) with the use of synthetic measures to enable ranking and grouping investigated regions from the point of view of socio-economic, as well as to investigate whether there are significant links between socio-economic development and migration processes. Opis:
Spatial analyses suffer from modifiable areal unit problem (MAUP). This occurs while operating on aggregated data determined for high-level territorial units, e.g. official statistics for countries. Generalization process deprives the data of variation. Carrying out research excluding territorial distribution of a phenomenon affects the analysis results and reduces their reliability. The paper proposes to use symbolic data analysis (SDA) to reduce MAUP. SDA proposes an alternative form of individual data aggregation and deals with multivariate analysis of interval-valued, multi-valued and histogram data. The paper discusses the scale effect of MAUP which occurs in a gravity model of population migrations and shows how SDA can deal with this problem. Symbolic interval-valued data was used to determine the economic distance between regions which served as a separation function in the model. The proposed approach revealed that economic disparities in Poland are lower than official statistics show but they are still one of the most important factors of domestic migration flows.

Artykuł przedstawia charakterystykę i zalety wykorzystania graficznej formy analizy danych potwierdzone empirycznym badaniem. Opisywane w nim trendy dotyczą wykorzystania wizualizacji w odniesieniu do najnowszych rozwiązań w dziedzinie analityki biznesowej. W artykule zostały opisane kryteria oceny wartości wizualizacji danych oraz metody wykorzystywane do uzyskiwania informacji z danych. Analiza empiryczna ma na celu wskazanie obszarów, których eksploracja może przyczynić się do stworzenia rozwiązań poprawiających sytuację np. na rynku pracy.
The article presents the characteristics and advantages of using graphical forms of data analysis confirmed by empirical study. It presents trends of visualization in the reference to the latest developments in the field of business intelligence. The article describes the criteria for assessing the value of data visualization methods used to obtain information from the data. Empirical analysis in the article aims to identify the areas where exploration can help to create solutions that improve the situation, for example in the labor market field.

Depopulation is understood as a real population loss in an area represented by a negative population change. In the present-day Poland, the process is particularly distinct in the economically underperforming areas situated on the peripheries of large urban centres, but some of the most populous cities are also affected by it. The purpose of the presented research using Webb’s typology was to identify Polish poviats that were depopulating in all the years from 2002 to 2014 as a result of natural population decline and negative migration balance (two-factor depopulation). In the research, special attention was given to the rate of change in the number of population (total and by age group) and to a net natural and migration loss in the selected poviats. Selected characteristics of the 2014 population age structure in Poland were also evaluated. The basis for all findings presented in the paper is vital and migratory statistics for the years 2002 to 2014 and the data on poviats’ population age structure from 2002 and 2014 published by the Central Statistical Office.

Świat stanął wobec wyzwania, jakim stało się zjawisko określane kryzysem uchodźczym. Pojęciem tym popularnie określa się narastające ruchy ludności, zarówno pochodne zagrożeń kwalifikowanych przez Konwencję Genewską, jak i wynikające z przyczyn ekonomicznych. Wśród przemieszczających się jest wiele dzieci, często samotnych lub zagubionych w trakcie podróży. Próbują one trafić do krajów Europy Zachodniej drogą morską i lądową. W trakcie podróży są narażone na wiele niebezpieczeństw, zatrzymywane w nieprzyjaznych im ośrodkach detencyjnych. W krajach docelowych podlegają skomplikowanym procedurom formalnym. Poszczególne państwa traktują je różnie, w zależności od przyjętej polityki migracyjnej i często bez uwzględniania ich wieku i wrażliwości. Niektóre, jak Niemcy czy Wielka Brytania, podchodzą do nich z dużą empatią. Inne, jak Francja, z całą surowością prawa. Polska na tym tle prezentuje się jako kraj zamknięty, nieprzyjmujący argumentów Unii Europejskiej, podporządkowany bieżącej polityce rządzących i coraz bardziej ksenofobiczny. (abstrakt oryginalny)
The world currently faces a challenge that has come to be known as the refugee crisis. The term is commonly used to refer to growing mass movements of people due both to threats qualified under the Geneva Convention and to economic reasons. There are many children among the migrants, often alone or separated from their guardians during the journey, attempting to make their way to Western Europe via maritime and overland routes. During the journey, they are exposed to various risks and detained in detention centres which are not friendly to them. Having arrived in their country of destination, they are forced to undergo complicated formal procedures. They receive different treatment in different countries, depending on the local migration policy. Often no regard is shown for their age or sensitivity. Some countries, like Germany or the UK, approach child refugees with empathy. Others, like France, make no exceptions. Against this background, Poland appears as a country of closed borders, impervious to EU arguments, dominated by the current policy of its ruling class, and increasingly xenophobic. Rozwój procesów suburbanizacji zachodzi łącznie z trwającymi w Polsce zmianami społecznymi i gospodarczymi, a migracje ludności są barometrem tych zmian. Opracowanie stanowi próbę określenia dynamiki rozwoju procesów suburbanizacji w polskich miastach w okresie transformacji ustrojowej. Analizie poddano dane statystyczne dotyczące ruchu migracyjnego ludności według gmin. Ramy czasowe badania wyznaczają lata 1995-2007. Obserwowany odpływ ludności miejskiej do strefy podmiejskiej najszybciej zaznaczył się w ośrodkach największych (liczących ponad 200 tys. mieszkańców) i zaczyna przejawiać się obecnie w miastach średniej wielkości. Przedstawione zmiany w zakresie migracji ludności dowodzą, iż podobne procesy nie są zjawiskiem nieznanym, lecz następstwem zmian gospodarczych i społecznych, jakie wystąpiły już dawno w krajach Europy Zachodniej.
Dynamic grow of peripherally located cities and each suburban areas was identified in Transformation period. Nowdays, suburbanization is dominated processes in Polish cities. The highest outflow of people to suburban areas could be observed in the biggest cities (above 200 thousand of inhabitants), the same processes can be observed in stnaller cities as well. Economic and social changes were the main reason of development of suburbanization processes in the Polish cities.
