Minęło już 28 lat od chwili, gdy rozpoczęła się w Polsce transformacja ustrojowa, czyli proces przechodzenia od gospodarki centralnie planowanej do gospodarki rynkowej. Opinie wśród ekonomistów dotyczące jej przebiegu, skutków i kosztów są podzielone. Celem artykułu jest prezentacja stanowisk polskich ekonomistów wobec sposobu i skutków dokonanych przekształceń systemowych. Starano się zaprezentować zarówno opinie bezkrytycznie akceptujące przebieg i skutki transformacji, jak również krytyczne wobec jej rozwoju i konsekwencji bez oceniania, kto ma słuszność.
It’s been 28 years since in Poland began political transformation, process of the transition from centrally planned economy to a market economy. Opinions among economists about the course, effects and costs are divided. The main goal of this article is to present attitude of polish economists towards the method and effects of transformations system. Presented opinions uncritically accepting process and results of transformation as well as opinions criticizing course and consequences of transformation, without judging who is right.

Can a theatrical spectacle rectify the greatest neglect of Poland’s post-1989 transformation and create a ‘positive’ founding myth of the ‘Solidarity’? This is the ambition of the musical 1989 produced by a creative team led by Marcin Napiórkowski, Katarzyna Szyngiera, Mirosław Wlekły and Andrzej ‘Wolny’ Webber (co-produced by the Gdansk Shakespeare Theatre and the Juliusz Słowacki Theatre in Krakow). According to the announcements, it was to be the first musical in Poland in the likeness of the American Hamilton, for the first time with entirely rapped vocals, showing the fall of communism from a new perspective and finally giving women their rightful place in the struggle for a free Poland. What captivates the audience is undoubtedly the musical and dance qualities of the performance, but the vision of history presented raises serious questions. A major misunderstanding in 1989 is the complete erasure of the church and the figure of John Paul II from the life of Poles in the 1980s. Furthermore, the diminishing of the role played by Lech Walesa in 1980-1989 is also completely incomprehensible. In the stage history, the leader of the August strike remains in the shadow of Jacek Kuroń and his own wife Danuta, and becomes a character without charisma, rather resembling Ubu Roi from Jarry’s play. The show tries to capture the energy of the Polish women’s strikes of the autumn of 2020, but on stage they are mainly rebellious lonely wives of activists who find encouragement in a conservative vision of family (‘to be simply one of many families’). There is nothing subversive here. Unlike in Hamilton, this is not a look at Poland ‘then’ from the perspective of Poland ‘today.’ Despite the repudiation of the traditional narratives, the paradigm of Polish Romanticism still triumphs because the entire dramatic plot is based on an old romantic cliché: ‘He did not find happiness at home because there was none in the fatherland’ (Mickiewicz, Konrad Wallenrod). The artists create their own counter-history, which they are of course artistically entitled to do, but they do not answer the question of causal power, i.e. where did society draw its strength to survive during martial law, or what led to the fall of the communist regime in 1989.

The article presents statistical analysis of survey results on the value of the work of teachers. The study was quantitative conducted in late 2014 and 2015 for different types of schools in the area of Świętokrzyskie and neighboring voivodeships. We used a questionnaire about aspirations of life, values and needs of teachers and a personal autobiographical statement on „The meaning and dignity of my life and work”. In total, there were collected 405 surveys were collected and 112 posts of teachers in three age groups (generational): • Young teachers (up to 35 years of age) (141 questionnaires and 35 posts), • Teachers in middle age (36–50) (154 questionnaires and 39 posts), • Teachers elderly (over 51 years) (110 questionnaires and 38 posts). An important theme in the studies undertaken is an attempt to compare the values of social life and professional currently working teachers with their image 25 years ago. Because just at that time – at the turn of the year 1989–1990 – there was carried out the same test on the same site, the results of which were published in my book Generations of teachers (1993). The second plane benchmarking closely linked to the previous one, has a generational dimension. In this respect it is important to know how teachers perceive their role, social life and work, and the we appreciate the value of teachers from different generations whose habitus and the fate of life and work shaped the different socio-political, cultural and economic conditions.
Artykuł zawiera prezentację i statystyczną analizę wyników badań ankietowych na temat wartości w pracy zawodowej nauczycieli. Badania tzw. ilościowe przeprowadzono na przełomie 2014 i 2015 roku w różnego typu szkołach na obszarze województwa świętokrzyskiego i ościennych. Zastosowano ankietę nt. aspiracji życiowych, wartości i potrzeb nauczycieli oraz osobistą wypowiedź autobiograficzną nt. „Sens i godność mojego życia i pracy”.Ogółem zgromadzono 405 ankiet oraz 112 wypowiedzi od nauczycieli w trzech grupach wiekowych (pokoleniowych):- nauczycieli młodych: do 35 roku życia (141 ankiet i 35 wypowiedzi)- nauczycieli w średnim wieku: od 36 do 50 roku życia (154 ankiety i 39 wypowiedzi)- nauczycieli starszych: powyżej 51. roku życia (110 ankiet i 38 wypowiedzi).Istotnym wątkiem w podjętych badaniach jest próba porównania wartości społecznych, życiowych i zawodowych obecnie pracujących nauczycieli z obrazem tych samych wartości u nauczycieli aktywnych zawodowo przed 25 laty. Właśnie w tamtym czasie – na przełomie 1989/90 roku przeprowadzone zostały takie same badania, na tym samym terenie, których wyniki zostały opublikowane w mojej książce Pokolenia nauczycieli (1993).Druga płaszczyzna analiz porównawczych, ściśle związana z poprzednią, ma wymiar pokoleniowy; w tym względzie istotne jest poznanie, jak postrzegają swoją rolę społeczną, życie i pracę oraz jakie wartości cenią nauczyciele z różnych pokoleń, których habitus i dalsze losy życiowe i zawodowe kształtowały odmienne warunki społeczno-polityczne, kulturowe i ekonomiczne.

Author pointed out the problems in stabilizing of Polish economy highlighted in new mono-graph of S. Szydło, who is specialized in issues of monetary policy. Simultaneously, he emphasized the sources of weaknesses of the research in stabilization policy undertaken in the mainstream economics. In regards to overcome them he postulates an integrated approach.

Artykuł dotyczy oceny wpływu sprawnie realizowanej w przedsiębiorstwach strategii operacyjnej na efektywność procesów ich przeobrażania. Przedstawiono w nim wyniki badań przeprowadzonych w latach 1999-2013 w przedsiębiorstwach działających na terenie Polski, a więc w okresie zarówno prosperity, jak i światowego kryzysu. Badania przeprowadzono w trzech okresach: 1999-2002, 2003-2005 i 2011-2013. W badaniach wykorzystano zaproponowany przez autora do tego celu model przeobrażeń przedsiębiorstwa. Wykazały one, jakie istotne zmiany zaszły w badanych okresach nie tylko w zarządzaniu przedsiębiorstwami, ale również w podejściu do realizowanej strategii operacyjnej. Stwierdzono, że kluczowe dla realizacji strategii operacyjnej czynniki związane z obszarami kosztów i jakości, z czasem stawały się czynnikami podstawowymi, a ich rolę, jako wyróżniające w budowaniu przewagi konkurencyjnej, przejęły czynniki związane z obszarami obsługi i innowacji.
The article concerns assessment of the impact of an efficiently implemented at enterprises operational strategy on effectiveness of the processes of their transformation. The author presented in it findings of the research carried out in 1999-2013 at enterprises operating in Poland, therefore, in the period of both prosperity and the global crisis. The research was carried out in the three periods: 1999-2002, 2003-2005 and 2011-2013. The author made use in the research the model of enterprise transformations proposed by him for that purpose. It showed what important changes took place in the periods in question not only in enterprise management but also in the approach to the implemented operational strategy. He ascertained that the key for implementation of the operational strategy factors related to the areas of costs and quality over time were becoming the basic factors and their role, as the dominant in building competitive edge, was taken over by the factors related to the areas of service and innovation.

The purpose of the article is to illustrate the social order preferred by the Polish together with their assessment of the existing social inequalities. On the basis of the empirical material collected among the sample of 1000 respondents, the findings show manners of their definition of equity, perception of discrepancies between the ideal of equity and the existing real status, together with their assessment of the existing differences in the treatment of rich and poor people by various institutions (banks, police, hospitals, courts). The article also describes the causes of social inequalities as indicated by the respondents and their assessment of state policies in reference to them. The article concludes that 25 years after the collapse of “real socialism”, Polish society presents a firmly egalitarian awareness that is in conflict with the current market order.

The subject of this presentation is the attempt to defi ne and to present the origins, socio-cultural content and the evolution of The Polish Mother myth, present in the polish national consciousness. The author tries to show how this myth was born, what functions it fulfi lled and what forms it took in the changing historical and social reality, from the moment of loss of independence, through a period of real socialism, until the present day. The impact of this myth in the lives of real women and their motherhood is taken into consideration. Then, the author comparing the results of the latest polish sociological rese-arches on the family and its transformation, and transformation of value systems together with theories about the specifi cs of life in the period of postmodernity, wonders whether it’s time to deconstruct the myth of The Polish Mother, because it does not fi t the conditions of today’s world, which is characterized, above all, by the apotheosis of individuality, self--realization and freedom, or perhaps in polish society there is still strong traditionalism in thinking about motherhood, and the myth of The Polish Mother is still alive?

Celem artykułu jest rozpatrzenie problemu odzwierciedlonej/wykreowanej w polskim kinie przełomu lat 80. i 90. przestrzeni społeczno-kulturowej pierwszego etapu transformacji ustrojowej. Przedmiotem analizy są wybrane filmy z lat 1989-1993 odnoszące sią do fazy określanej przez socjologów jako „tranzycja” – moment liminalny procesu przemian, zwiastujący przejście od systemu socjalistycznego do kapitalizmu. W pracy poszukuje się odpowiedzi na pytania, jak filmy ukazują destrukcję dawnego systemu politycznego i jej skutki? oraz jak reprezentują one nowe sfery wolnego rynku i związane z nim przemiany tożsamości? Podejmowane są także kwestie, na ile krajobraz zmiany jest wynikiem ekspresji wolności i forsowania idei nowych możliwości ekonomiczno-społecznych, na ile zaś przestrzenią zamętu, a także, jak rozumiany jest przez filmowców sam proces transformacji (rewolucja, ewolucja czy też powrót do przeszłości). Rozważaniom towarzyszy perspektywa antropologiczna i socjologiczna skoncentrowana na badaniu relacji film – rzeczywistość, związków filmu z przestrzenią kulturowych norm, wartości i tożsamości.
The aim of the article is to consider the problem of the socio-cultural space of the first stage of political transformation reflected/created in the Polish cinema at the turn of the 1980s and 1990s. The subject of the analysis are selected films from the period of 1989-1993 referring to the phase described by sociologists as a “transition” – the liminal moment of the transformation process, heralding the transition from the socialist system to capitalism. The work seeks to answer questions such as how the films show the destruction of the former political system and its effects, and how they represent the new spheres of the free market and the associated transformation of identity. Questions are also raised as to the extent to which the landscape of change is the result of expressing freedom and forcing the idea of new economic and social opportunities, to what extent is it a question of disarray and how the transformation process itself (revolution, evolution or return to the past) is understood by filmmakers. Considerations are accompanied by an anthropological and sociological perspective focused on the study of the relationship between film and reality, the relationship between film and the space of cultural norms, values and identities.

The economy creates society, economic system does it to a greater degree. The text aims to show the neoliberal system in Poland as an actual effect of the transformation. This system means that the principles of neoclassical economics are transferred to the other areas of science. For the economy it postulates free market and focus on entrepreneurship. From this short, synthetic review of participation of Presidents in cabinet formation in 1989 – 1995 results that W. Jaruzelski was fully loyal towards processes of democratic changes in Poland. The position of the first, in the history of third RP, head of state was weakened by fiasco of C. Kiszczak mission of government formation; the politician indicated by the President appeared ineffective. But W. Jaruzelski accepted C. Kiszczak failure with dignity and he engaged himself in the process of formation of T. Mazowiecki cabinet although he had constitutional instruments to block it. “President Jaruzelski, Siwicki (Ministry of Defence) and I spread a protective umbrella over this Cabinet against »hardliners« in Poland and abroad.”. L. Wałęsa, benefiting from social consent, very actively took part in the process of formation of solidarity cabinets both before and after he became the head of state. He, with the substantive help of his closest and most trusted associate – prof Lech Falandysz – forced through a favourable for himself interpretation of art 61 of Small Constitution. Because of this, ministers from MoD, MIA, MFA in Pawlak and Oleksy’s Cabinets were appointed by the head of state. It should be stressed that L. Wałęsa helped to promote two prominent politicians: J.K Bielecki and W. Pawlak.

W podsumowaniu refleksji niniejszego artykułu podkreślić należy, że polskie przemiany roku 1989 dokonywały się w kilku zasadniczych płaszczyznach. Najważniejszymi z nich były jednak przemiany w płaszczyźnie politycznej i społecznej. To one, z kolei, spowodowały przemiany w innych sferach, jak np. ekonomicznej, kulturowej, administracyjnej itp. Wydaje się, że najważniejszymi osiągnięciami tych przemian jest zmiana samego charakteru państwa, wypracowanie młodej demokracji jako dobrego ustroju państwa, stworzenie możliwości korzystania przez obywateli z należnych im praw, dopracowanie się idei samorządu terytorialnego, uzyskanie wolności mediów i dopracowanie się właściwej regulacji Kościół – państwo na zasadzie konkordatu. Te osiągnięcia uznać należy za najważniejsze w ocenie politologiczno-socjologicznej.
To present the summary of this article is worth noting that the polish transformations of 1989 were made in the few fundamental levels. The most importants were the transformations in the politics and social level. They were the ones which resulted in the transformations in the other spheres for example: economic, culture, administrative etc. It seems that the most important achievements of this transformations is the change of the nature of the States, the developement of a young democracy as a good States system, the creating the possibility of use by citizens of the rights owed to them, the making concept of the local government, the geting freedom of the media, the development of the correct adjustment of the Church – State on the principle of concordat. These achievements should be considered for the most important in the socio-politics evaluation.

The article analyses Max Weber’s position regarding the so-called Polish question from the point of view of post-colonial theory. The author discusses the circumstances of Weber’s scientific interest in the Polish question and offers an interpretation of his statements in this regard. Then, she moves on to explore the relationship between this early inspiration and the subsequent development of Weber’s comparative historical sociology, whereupon follows an outline of its post-colonial criticism. The article concludes with a suggestion of applying the author’s approach to studying the post-communist transformation and transitological debates in Poland.

In the first half of 2001 the US Department of State, following a request from the National Security Archive (a US non-governmental organisation), declassified documents relating to the Round Table negotiations, the presidential elections, the crisis over choice of a prime minister and the creation of government (coalition) in Poland in 1989. Those documents, highly confidential until their release, allow us to look at the most important events in the transformation in Poland from a different perspective, which has not yet been extensively analysed. In essence, they indicate the role of external factors which have influenced the political situation of Poland – the transformation and actual decomposition of communism. They include cables detailing the US embassy’s participation in, and its analysis of the events during Poland’s ‘revolution’.
