Article 138 of the Bill entrusts Poczta Polska SA with exclusive rights for the provision of a registered electronic delivery service and a public hybrid service. In the author’s opinion, this constitutes a restriction of the freedom to provide services and the freedom of establishment as defined in the TFEU. Determining whether granting public aid to Poczta Polska requires notification to the European Commission according to Article 108(3) TFEU is not possible on the basis of the Bill itself, which does not constitute an aid program, and depends on the contents of executive acts. Entrusting the operator’s duties in the manner provided for in the Bill will require notification to the European Commission.

The article is a collection of thoughts that transpired during the work at the Archive of Włodzimierz Odojewski. The aim of the authors was to identify and indicate the potential ways to study the life and works of the writer, and the expected result of the research is a biography of Odojewski. The research was based on the exploration of the writer’s private collection: unpublished documents, manuscripts, typescripts, personal papers, correspondence, family and estate papers and photographs. The authors focused on a number of issues. One, the biographical facts that influenced Odojewski’s output – World War II, frequent relocations, censorship and a ban on publishing in Poland, emigration, the relation with the Polish Institute in Maisons-Laffitte and working at Radio Free Europe’s editorial office. Two, the analysis of literary works including hundreds of typescripts in many variants (related to the phases of the genetic history of a literary work through the stages of Odojewski’s life) which allowed for describing Odojewski’s writing techniques. Three, ‘The writer’s map’ which points out places important for the author – Poznań, Gniezno, Kłecko, Podole,Szczecin, Warsaw, Paris, Berlin, Munich. Four, the correspondence (personal and cultural) which can be used as an important source of knowledge of the history of Polish post-war emigration. One of the most interesting parts of the collection is a collection of letters from Jerzy Giedroyć that show Polish culture outside the Iron Curtain.

The purpose of the paper is take a look from the perspective of the field theory of Pierre Bourdieu at the history of the Polish post-war philosophy with special attention given to the so-called Christian philosophy. In reference to Bourdieu’s research practice, the author postulates application of research strategies of the sociology of science/philosophy to historical and philosophical studies with a belief that they enhance the picture of philosophical dynamics of the past. From this point of view, the author focuses on relations between the field of Christian philosophy and the field of church authority, exposing the issue of philosophy’s autonomy.

The postal services market in Poland in recent years opened up to competition. Gradually was reduced an area of services reserved for the public operator and at the same time increased market competition. Opening of the market forced the Polish Post to face the market competition in all areas of its business. In view of these changes of particular importance becomes the need to adopt an approach aimed to meet the needs of consumers, in which the quality of the offer will be a priority item. The purpose of this article is to present the results of studies on the quality of the offer of Polish Post in the opinion of its customers.

The influence of Krzysztof Kieślowski on Polish post-communist cinema is discussed. The author refers to all events held in 2006 (the year of the 10th anniversary of the director’s death). Also the effect Kieślowski had on such directors as Michał Rosa, Jerzy Stuhr, Iwona Siekierzyńska, to name but a few, is indicated.

The article discusses the references to Faust by Johann Wolfgang Goethe present in the works of Czesław Miłosz. They appear in his poems, as well as in essays and non-literary texts, e.g. interviews. The references to Goethe in Miłosz’s work are also of interest, especially included in autobiographical statements. The article attempts to indicate certain regularities concerning the occurrence of intertextual references to Goethe’s tragedy, related to the poet’s worldview, his aesthetic choices and biographical context. The considerations included in the article lead to the conclusion that the hero of the tragedy symbolises the content which, after World War II, made it possible to name and understand the processes that led to the catastrophe of war and the rejection of humanity. Faust can be a tool for self-characterisation or an accusation against German culture and the cult of science and progress, leading to the alienation of the individual.

The article discusses the translation of four poems by George Gordon Byron: Vision of Belshezzar, The Wild Gazelle, Oh! Weep for Those, On Jordan’s Banks from the collection Hebrew Melodies published in 1816 as a result of the poet’s cooperation with the composer Isaac Nathan. The Polish translations by Antoni Edward Odyniec were published in his collections in 1826 (Vision of Belshezzar) and 1832 (the remaining ones). The first part of the text is dedicated to the circumstances in which the originals were written. The second part constitutes a detailed analysis of the translation choices of Odyniec, which places them in the context of Polish poetry of the post-partitions period (among others, poems by Jan Paweł Woronicz and Adam Jerzy Czartoryski) and in the context of translation studies (Lawrence Venuti, Stanisław Barańczak, André Lefevere).

This article examines how the United Kingdom (UK) trade unions organise Polish migrant workers in the aftermath of post EU enlargement migration, and what forms of inclusion strategies they implement. The benefits and limitations of various inclusionary approaches are scrutinised through the analysis of semi-structured interviews conducted with officers of three different large trade unions. These unions have at times, applied similar and at other times very different strategies, which depend on the unions' structures and decision-making. These approaches vary from equal treatment and the 'level playing field' approach to special treatment. While the first combined approach has resulted in some positive experiences in locating and recruiting Polish members, further inclusion through activism, however, calls for a special treatment approach.

This article presents a lexical material excerpted from the Polish weekly “Trybuna Radziecka” published in Moscow in 1927–1938. The author tries to show that the new realities of life in the Soviet Union had a colossal effect on the Polish language of “Trybuna Radziecka”. The paper contains 23 lexems. The lexical items are listed with quotes of textual illustrations and conclusions. The largest group are borrowings from Russian language (e.g. kułak, podkułacznik, sektant). Next in the line are the so-called Sowietisms, that lexical items naming the Russian reality of the post-revolutionionary period (e.g. gburczyk, łazik).

The main goal of the article is to offer a description of cryptotexts of theatre staging handbooks and dramatic works created in Poland during the socialist realism period. A cryptotext is a secret text which is the result of a purposeful act of subterfuge. In the article, I present selected cryptotexts – reviews produced in the Ministry of Culture and Art (MKiS) and censorship reviews of the dramatic works submitted for evaluation to the Voivodship Control Bureau for Press, Main Office of Control of Press, Publications and Shows (WUKPPiW). The archives contain evaluation of works which have been published in subsequent years as well as those which remained only in their draft form. Analysis of the evaluations of ministry officials reveal the mechanisms for allowing and withholding submitted dramatic works and a theatre staging handbook which shows the practices of publishing theatrical works. An analysis of different evaluations of the same text allows for a hypothesis that the main aim of cryptotexts was the evaluation of ideological correctness of submitted works. Despite this main function it is possible to point out specific passages in the statements by the WUKPPiW officials which are similar to statements of Ministry officials. In both cases the evaluation pertains to the content and the planned fulfilment of the work and plays mainly a didactic function.

Artykuł rozważa przykłady polskiej prozy po roku 1989, ukazujące skutki długotrwałej kondycji subalterna, które dochodzą do głosu w (niesymetrycznych, bo aktywizujących podmioty nierównoprawne) relacjach z Obcym. Mówi o konstrukcyjnej formie fantazmatu ojczyzny (tego, co najbardziej „swoje”) i jego selektywnym charakterze. Formułuje tezę, że problemem polskiej spetryfikowanej narracji dominującej z Ojczyzną w centrum uwagi i tożsamością podmiotu budowaną z uwzględnieniem specyficznego stosunku do Obcych jest to, iż nie chce ona przyznać, że kulturowe autorytety dyktuje teraźniejszość, a nie przeszłość i że odbywa się między nimi ciągły ruch wymiany znaczeń – zapominania i zapamiętywania.
The article considers examples of the post-1989 Polish prose exposing the results of a long-term subaltern condition. These results get activated in relations with the Other. They are asymmetrical because they concern unequal subjects. The article posits that the phantasm of the motherland (that which is the most ‘self’) has a constructing form and selective character. It poses the thesis that the problem of the Polish petrified dominant narration with the motherland at the center of attention and subject identity marked with a specific relation to the Other is that it does not want to admit that cultural authority is created by the present time and not the past. There is a constant interchange in meaning – from forgetting to remembering and back – that takes place between them.

Wstęp i cel: W szybkim tempie rozwijający się rynek usług pocztowych w kraju jak również na rynku międzynarodowym powoduje wzrost zainteresowania dla różnych podmiotów. Zainteresowanie dotyczy bezpośrednio operatorów pocztowych, jak również w dalszej części działalności tych podmiotów dla biorców tych usług, przez których należy rozumieć nadawcę i odbiorcę usługi pocztowej. Celem polityki jakościowej w usługach operatorów pocztowych jest zapewnienie wszystkim klientom stabilnej usługi pocztowej. Materiał i metody: W pracy posłużono się materiałem opartym na cytowanej literaturze. Zastosowano metodę analizy teoretycznej. Wyniki: Istotą tej usługi pocztowej jest zagwarantowanie niedyskryminacyjnego dostępu do powszechnych usług pocztowych o wysokiej jej, jakości po przystępnych cenach, z gwarancją zgodności z wymogami Prawa Polskiego. Postęp technologiczny oraz informatyzacja procesów usługowych wpływa na dynamicznie rozwijającą się branżę usług pocztowych, która natomiast wywiera ogromny wpływ, na jakość świadczenia usługi przez operatora publicznego, jakim jest Poczta Polska. Wniosek: W przedsiębiorstwie zorientowanym na jakość, rachunek kosztów jakości jest ważnym systemem dostarczającym informacji na potrzeby podejmowania decyzji.
Introduction and aim: A fast-paced growing market of postal services in the country as well as in the international market increases the interest for the various entities. The interest is directly affected postal operators, as well as in the rest of the activities of these entities for the recipients of these services, which must be understood by the sender and the recipient postal service. The aim of quality politics, concerning the services of postal operators, is providing stable postal services for all customers. Material and methods: The paper-based material was used for the cited literature. The method of theoretical analysis. Results: The substance of post service is to guarantee undiscriminating access to the universal postal services of high quality and reasonable price - according to the polish law. Technological progress and the informatization of services have an influence on postal services branch, which is expanding dynamically. This branch, however, in great measure affects the quality of services of the public operator, which is the Polish Post Office. Conclusion: In the enterprise-oriented on a quality, cost accounting quality is an important delivery system information for decision-making.

Classics of Polish Design. Furniture Icons from the Polish People's Republic (PRL) presents a review of the best Polish furniture designs from the Polish People's Republic: the 1950s and 1960s. The paper continues the series devoted to the "Classical Polish Design", presenting the results of research on Polish post-war furniture and the icons of Polish design, carried out within the framework of dissertations in the Department of Wood Technology in the Warsaw University of Life Sciences (SGGW). Some of the innovative furniture designs have been analysed in the hereby article. We present a chronologically organised review of designs that aspired to become breakthrough and timeless (design icons), with the author's background and the furniture's style, structure and materials.
Klasyka polskiego designu. Ikony meblarstwa PRL-u. Celem artykułu jest przybliżenie najlepszych projektów mebli z czasów PRL-u, czyli lat 50. i 60. Artykuł kontynuuje cykl „Klasyka polskiego designu”, prezentujący wyniki badań nad powojennym polskim meblarstwem i ikonami polskiego designu, prowadzonych w ramach prac dyplomowych na WTD SGGW. W artykule przeanalizowano nowatorskie projekty mebli. W ujęciu chronologicznym wybrano i opisano projekty aspirujące do roli przełomowych i ponadczasowych (ikon wzornictwa), przedstawiając osobę autora i charakteryzując meble stylistycznie, konstrukcyjnie i materiałowo.

This paper discusses only the systems of concentration camps, omitting how individual camps functioned. The analysis starts with late 19th-century Spanish camps in Cuba and ends with late 20th-century camps for Serbs, Croats and Bosniaks in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The first part of the paper discusses the problems of defining a concentration camp and proposes an original definition. The second part focuses on the victims, including their position within the camp hierarchy. The third part shows the practice of history politics based on the system of camps to which Silesians and other groups were sent after the war. Consequently, the paper offers an original definition of a concentration camp that is missing from many scholarly papers, and discusses Polish complications in history politics related to avoiding the term “Polish concentration camps”. The interpretation was based on the hermeneutics of academic literature and multimodal discourse analysis, especially as it pertains to post-war camps.
