The aim of the study is to determine the intensity of exercise during amateur running competitions taking place in the Sudeten Mountains, based on results of measurements of energy expenditure. The study covered those participating in 2015-17 and included details on themselves and their preparation. Their energy consumption was measured using a CALTRACTM device. Routes are described by distance (km) and altitude (m). Average energy output values for 19.2 km and 613.8 m were calculated from measurements taken which was characterized as ‘unduly heavy’. In women this value was 11.6 kcal/1 min/55 kg and in men - 12.7 kcal/1 min/65 kg.

The aim of the study was to show the motives for physical activity by students of the High School named Władysław Orkan in Bieżuń. Also determined whether sex differentiates answer questions. The high school students are aware that physical activity is an important part of a healthy way of chewing. We are happy to undertake physical activity outside of physical education classes. It has been shown that boys often use forms of organized physical activity, while the girls of the individual. Both boys and girls frequently pointed out that the guiding impetus for making the activity is to improve the health and the desire to improve. For girls desire to achieve a healthy weight was important incentive to undertake physical activity than boys. The study also confirmed that the lack of desire, lack of time and fatigue are the most common barriers to making physical activity of youth. Replies both boys and girls were mostly questions converge, indicating little relevance to gender in this study.

Introduction and objective. The aim of the study was to determine changes in the fitness level among students of the Main Fire Service School during 3-year’s education. Methods. A total of 75 male and 5 female students took part in the study. Fitness level measurements were carried out before beginning the studies (Measurement 0) and after the 1st, 2nd and 3rd years at the school (Measurement 1, 2, 3). The following tests were performed to estimate level of physical fitness for men: pull-ups on a bar, a 50 m sprint and 1,000 m run, and for women: sit-ups, medical ball (2 kg) throw from above the head and a 4 x10 m shuttle run. Results. General fitness level (average number of points from 3 attempts) of the male and female students improved. Improvement of fitness level between Measurement 0 (male students 60.3p.±7.58; female students 61.60p.±3.08), and Measurements 1, 2, 3 (men 64.59p.±6.87; 64.41p.±7.17; 64.03p.±7.65 and women 68.40p.±1.99; 66.67p.±2.36; 68.87±1.87 respectively), was found. The same relationship was found while analysing results of individual competitions. Only speed endurance (anaerobic-aerobic) assessed during Measurement 0 at 64.03p.±10.23, decreased after the 1st year at the school (Measurement 1 – 59.29p.±14.14) and remained on the same level during Measurements 2 and 3 (60.25p.±11.20 and 58.56p. ±12.80, respectively). Conclusion. Speed endurance (anaerobic-aerobic) is a capability which decreased among the students in the subsequent years. Because this capability highly correlates with activities that a fire-fighter will perform during rescue operations, it should be treated as a matter of priority during physical education classes in the Main Fire Service School.

Background. Physical activity of children and adults is considered an essential health determinant. Nowadays a considerable number of children and adolescents live sedentary lifestyles, and, as a result, more frequently suffer from the metabolic syndrome, cardiovascular diseases, overweight and obesity. It is generally believed that a significant number of children abstain from exercising at school. However, representative research results are still unavailable. The aim of the present study was to estimate the extent of exercise avoidance at physical education lessons in primary schools, and to identify the factors increasing the proportion of nonexercisers. Material and methods. The investigations were carried out in 42 primary schools of the Province of Silesia; 1333 physical education lessons were surveyed (classes 4-6). Results. The mean percentage of nonexercisers was 9.2%. The proportion of girls abstaining from exercise was significantly higher and amounted to 13.7%. A lower percentage of non exercising pupils, i.e., 8.5%, was noted in mixed schools. The most common excuses from active participation in physical education lessons were leaving exercise clothes at home (45%) and excuse notes from parents (33.5%).

Opis:
Introduction. This study was designed to obtain information about the personal exercise behavior and to evaluate the relationship between attitudes towards physical activity and personal exercise practices of future physiotherapists and to determine whether physiotherapy specialty is associated with physical activity. Material and methods The study involved 196 first year students of Division of Physiotherapy, Faculty of Military Medicine, Medical University of Lodz. Personal exercise practice and attitudes towards physical activity were assessed by questionnaire. Results Taking professional sports training was declared only by 4 % of respondents and amateur sports training by more than half of the physiotherapy students (57%). Only 3% of future physiotherapist practiced sports 5 times a week or more, 19% 3-4 times a week, 32% - rarely, but steadily. Almost half of respondents (46 %) said that they do not take physical activity regularly. 39% of future physiotherapists admitted that apart from compulsory classes at the University they practiced no additional physical activity. Statistically significant difference was found in sports participation between man and women (p<0.00378). Conclusions Physiotherapy students are aware about the beneficial effects of regular physical activity on health but this knowledge is not correlated with personal exercise behavior. The level of physical activity among future physiotherapists is not greater than among the rest of the society. In the education of future physiotherapists the emphasis should be placed on increasing the level of physical activity, so necessary in this profession.
Cel. Materiał i metody. Badaniem objęto 196 studentów I roku dwóch kolejnych roczników Kierunku Fizjoterapii Wydziału Wojskowo-Lekarskiego. Częstotliwość i charakter podejmowanej aktywności fizycznej oraz postawy wobec aktywności fizycznej zostały zbadane na podstawie kwestionariusza. Wyniki Podejmowanie profesjonalnego treningu sportowego deklaruje 4% badanych, a ponad połowa studentów fizjoterapii (57%) deklaruje udział w sporcie amatorskim.

Purpose: The aim of the presented study was the comparison of physical activity of students from selected countries. The key of paper selection was to find various kinds of students groups from different countries and different cultures. The author compared results of students’ physical activity.Materials and methods: The paper compare the previously published papers aboutphysical activity of students from selected countries. All respondents were examined using as an instrument the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ), a standardized questionnaire which enables the investigation and comparison of activity of various population groups. Results: Analysis of results of the study showed a great differentiation among students from individual countries. In each examined group of students, males proved to be the most active gender; however, among countries characterized by the highest physical activity, the results obtained by females were sometimes higher than those concerning males from countries characterized by lower activity. The study showed that the most active students are Americans and Czechs, whereas students from Croatia and South Africa show low physical activity. Conclusions: The conducted analyses demonstrated that in each country in the study the level of total activity is higher among males than females. The differences in the results of the summary MET value in males remained within the range 2,800 – 6,500 MET, while in females - within the range 1,700 – 5,900 MET. Male students were usually characterized by a high level of physical activity, whereas female students by a moderate level. Among Polish students, similar to their contemporaries from other countries, the level of total physical activity was higher among males than females. Polish students were most often characterized by a moderate level of physical activity.

Opis:
Depression is the most common mental disorder among people over 65 years old, making it one of the most significant health problems for this population. Due to the fact that medications and psychological therapy are not effective in all cases, many studies in recent decades have highlighted alternative treatments for depression. In particular, physical exercise has been highlighted as a potentially beneficial form of treatment. The purpose of this paper was to conduct a review into the relationship between exercise and its effects on the treatment of depression in the elderly. Specifically, PubMed and Google Scholar were searched for articles on the effectiveness of physical activity interventions for the treatment of senile depression and the reduction of its symptoms. The results show that physical activity is effective for reducing the symptoms of depression amongst the elderly. The positive effects of physical activity in the treatment of depression in the elderly were found for both endurance and resistance exercises, and for low-, moderate- and high-intensity exercise. Positive effects were observed for both traditional and water-based forms of exercise. Aligning the type and intensity of exercise to the patient’s personal preferences also helps to enhance the effectiveness of training. Overall, it was concluded that physical exercise can serve as a valuable strategy for the protection of mental health amongst the elderly. However, more research is needed to clarify the most effective type, intensity, and frequency of exercises to treat depression.

Opis:
This study is specifically concerned with the effect of regular physical activity during menstruation on the course of menstrual cycle among nullipara. Based on the author’s questionnaire, the 152 women participating in the study were divided into three groups A, B and C – depending on their level of physical activity. The physical activity at a moderate level does not significantly affect the regularity of menstrual cycles. The cultivation of moderate physical activity during menstruation does not significantly affect the duration of bleeding. Moderate physical activity is irrelevant to the abundance of menstrual bleeding. Moderate physical activity has no significant effect on menstrual pain and its duration. Women who are physically active at a moderate level throughout their menstrual cycle are less likely to experience symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) than women who are only physically active outside of menstruation and are not physically active, which may indicate that moderate physical activity during menstruation prevents symptoms of premenstrual tension syndrome. Based on the results achieved, it is not possible to clearly determine the relevance of promoting moderate physical activity, with particular emphasis on that during menstruation, among women. The study needs to be continued with particular attention paid to physical activity during the day, the influence of environmental factors and stress on the examined women, and with attention paid to the intensity of pain accompanying bleeding. However, it can be assumed that there is no justification for limiting physical activity during the menstrual bleeding phase.

Introduction: Although practicing physical activity according to recommendations has health benefits, many studies have reported that the level of participation is lower than recommended. Methods: In this behavioural epidemiological study, we used a correlational design to determine the contribution made by physical education (PE) classes to daily physical activity in a sample of 694 Spanish adolescents. Physical activity levels were determined using the Four by One-Day Physical Activity Questionnaire. Results: 65.1% of adolescents comply with the recommendations on PE school days, compared to 36.6% who do so on the days with no PE class. Moreover, on PE school days, they obtain significantly higher physical activity level scores compared to days with no PE class. Conclusion: The study, therefore, shows the fundamental role of PE in increasing daily physical activity levels. Proposals to improve physical activity levels in these adolescents should be put forward, with educational centres being one of the best settings to achieve this goal.

The aim of this study is to see if there are significant relationships between different variables of physical condition and academic performance. Most literature shows that a relationship does exist, mainly emphasizing maximal oxygen consumption and academic performance. With regard to the other variables, more differences can be found. A total of 79 students participated in the study from the island of Majorca (Spain), ranging in age from 12.5 to 14.5 years. Students passed fitness tests, which were compared with their academic results. The results show a significant positive relationship between BMI and hand grip strength and significant negative relationships between BMI and note and between BMI and maximal oxygen consumption. No significant relationships have been found, however, between maximal oxygen consumption and note. Assessment of the importance of physical condition and therefore physical education in academic performance is of interest in order to implement the necessary hours of Physical Education. Furthermore, this subject should be characterised further in terms of its relation to the issue of health.

Background. Physical education teachers are traditionally associated with physical education as a school subject. Questions as to their competences, personalities, and roles in the education process are being continuously raised. It must be taken into account that trainers of physical activity in environments different from the traditional one – e.g. in a fitness club – bear great responsibility for preparing their students for participation in physical culture, as well. Teachers’ personality traits along with their moral code are to constitute a crucial element in the creation of the model of physical education teacher. It must be emphasized that due to the ever changing conditions and new challenges that contemporary physical education teachers must face, the aforementioned model needs to be particularized because of the specific conditions it is to meet. Different needs will be postulated by learners due to their age, former experience and skills. Material and methods. The aim of the research was a study of opinions of the students of the University of the Third Age of the University School of Physical Education in Wroclaw. The study involved 50 persons. The L.K./2001 Questionnaire was utilized. Conclusions. During their physical activities the students of the University of the Third Age would like to meet professional, reliable and cultured trainers capable of a just and objective progress assessment. Introduction. During P.E. classes primary school students (grade 4) ought to improve their level of physical fitness, including coordinative motor abilities, as well as to acquire motor skills which enable them to take part in various forms of physical activity in an active and safe way. Unfortunately, in physical education of children and young people the main emphasis is still placed on the improvement of fitness abilities. We have to bear in mind, however, that the level of coordinative abilities limits significantly the improvement of necessary fitness abilities and vice versa. Our research was aimed at determining what dependencies exist between the results of selected coordinative motor abilities and ten-year-old children’ results of the tests designed by the International Committee for the Standardization of Physical Fitness Tests. Material and methods. The research group consisted of 93 students of primary schools in the town of Wołów. In order to determine the level of the particular components of physical fitness we employed the trials of the International Committee for the Standardization of Physical Fitness Tests (ICSPFT). For assessing the particular coordinative abilities we used the following tests: ‘run for the balls’, ‘stopping the rolling ball’, ‘long standing jump with 50% of maximum possibilities’, ‘long standing jump forward and backward’. Results. According to research findings there is a relationship between the improvement of the selected coordinative motor abilities and some of the components of physical fitness. Conclusions. Therefore, a physical education teacher are advised caution in choosing physical exercises and games, taking into consideration comprehensive motor development of students, including their coordinative motor abilities.

Introduction: This study aims to outline indicators of physical literacy for Ukrainian student youth, taking into account current international experience and concepts and meeting national specificities of the organization of physical education in higher educational institutions of Ukraine. Methods: 82 individuals were invited to participate in study (face-to-face meeting). The 2-round Delphi method as approach for facilitating group interaction aimed to structure communication process was used to generalize the knowledge and receiving the consensus of expert opinion. Results: The top five of the most important indicators of physical literacy were physical health, physical activity level, participation in fitness activities, ability to conduct morning hygienic gymnastics, physical training break, physical training, gymnastics before classes, individual training session, ability to perform preventive exercises in case of illness. The indicators identified by the experts can be grouped into three separate domains: functional, motivational, cognitive and behavioral. Conclusion: The selected indicators are contextually sensitive for the Ukrainian population. We prioritize approaches that have already been used in daily practice in Ukraine. The set of selected indicators demonstrates that they reflect the structural hierarchy of the “physical literacy” construction. The selected indicators, in particular, correspond to the goals of students' education, they take into account the list of necessary knowledge, skills and abilities in accordance with the requirements of the Ukrainian program, consider motivation of students, awareness of active lifestyle and sufficient level of physical strain importance for health.

Introduction. The current problem of physical inactivity in population is analysed by professionals in various age categories. One of the groups, not that often observed, are university s tudents, who should be able to present their attitude to regular physical activity as well as its contribution to healthy lifestyle. The aim of the research was to find out the structure of physical activities in university students in various study progra mmes (teacher programmes, sport programmes) and also to determine their attitude to physical activity and the reasons for (not) including physical activity in daily regimen. Methods . The research group involved students of the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport, Comenius University (n=53, 26 men and 27 women), Faculty of Education, University of Trnava (n=53, only women) a University of P. J. Šafárik in Košice (n=45, 30 men, 15 women). The data were collected by questionnaire with open, semi - open and c losed questions. The data were analysed by MS Excel and non - parametric Chi - square test. Results. The students with sports profile presented more positive attitude to physical activity than the other students of other study profile. On the other, hand stude nts of the teacher study profile were least satisfied with the offer of physical activities at their faculty and they would like to perform more activities in their leisure time if they had better conditions. The reasons for not performing physical activit y were also various. Students with teacher profile chose not enough time (52%), however, students with sports profile chose their health condition as the priority (37%). The reasons for including physical activity in daily regimen were in the group of teac her students supporting health and body forming, the other groups of students preferred fun and challenge. The time spent with sedentary activities was not different regarding the study profile but regarding sex. The results showed a clear difference betwe en men and women, where the most men chose 1 - 2 hours of sedentary activities every day, whereas women suggested 3 - 4 hours of sedentary activities. Conclusion. Our research data confirm the importance of analysing the reasons for performing or not performin g physical activities by university students, which could help to create an optimal model of a physical programme for various study profiles. The results suggest that the students of teacher programmes will prefer health - oriented activities with emphasizing body forming, whereas students of sports programmes will prefer activities focused on performance, challenge and experience.

Background: From the public health perspective, it is particularly important to establish links between a persons' perception of their own health and their predispositions to undertake pro-health behaviours that enable them to maintain proper functioning of their body. In the case of the paediatric population, it is crucial to emphasise that adults are responsible for the adoption and development of appropriate health-enhancing behaviours by children. The aim of this study is to verify parents' perception of the level of children’s physical activity (PA) in comparison with objective measures describing children's physical fitness. Material and methods: Material for analysis consists of the results of anthropometric tests and cardiopulmonary exercise capacity of children as well as questionnaires concerning 28,891 children completed by parents. Results: In more than 40% of the sample, the subjectively assessed level of PA was not consistent with the cardiorespiratory fitness level. It was observed that the correct assessment of the level of PA of children is more common for girls, increases with the age of the child and with the level of parental education.

Opis:
BackgroundReaching an appropriate physical activity level (PAL) in adolescence is an important public health problem. This study aimed to evaluate factors associated with PAL and changes in PAL in late adolescence.Material and MethodsThe sample involved 411 adolescents (201 girls) who were 16 years of age at study baseline; the participants completed a structured validated questionnaire at baseline (the beginning of the third grade of high school) and again at follow-up (the end of the fourth grade; when they were 18 years of age). Variables were obtained at both testing waves and included the following predictors: sociodemographic indices (sex, socioeconomic status, parental education), sports factors (participation in individual and team sports, competitive sports achievement, experience in sports), and PAL (the primary outcome), which was measured using the Physical Activity Questionnaire for Adolescents.ResultsA significant decrease in PAL between baseline and follow-up testing was evidenced (t-test = 6.17, p < 0.001). A logistic regression model calculated with a dichotomized outcome (normal PAL vs. low PAL), and sex as a covariate, showed a significant influence of participation in team sports and maternal education on PAL, both at baseline (OR = 1.56, 95% CI: 1.11–1.87; OR = 1.38, 95% CI: 1.02–1.90) and at follow-up (OR = 1.45, 95% CI: 1.01–1.90; OR = 1.35, 95% CI: 1.08–1.70, for team sports and maternal education, respectively).ConclusionsThe study confirmed certain associations between the studied variables and PAL, but there was no significant influence of the observed indicators on changes in PAL in late adolescence. Further studies evaluating other predictors of changes in PAL are warranted. Med Pr. 2020;71(6):637–47

Opis:
In view of new civilizational challenges of the 21st century, health promotion and education encouraging active participation in physical recreation, which should be implemented at all levels of education, within family, peer environment and local environment, become issues of particular importance. The research was carried out in the summer of 2013 and included 572 students of John Paul II State School of Higher Education in Biała Podlaska (PSW), of such degree courses as Tourism and Recreation, Public Health, Nursing, Rescue Medicine and Computer Science. The method used in the research was a diagnostic survey based on International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ). The aim of the study was to get to know the differentiation between the forms of recreational physical activity taken up and expected by the students of PWS and their gender, BMI and self-assessment of physical fitness. Basing on the results of the analysis it was concluded that the abovementioned independent variables have significant impact on the forms of physical activity chosen and expected by the surveyed. Studies of the literature on the subject and the results of our previous research entitle us to conclude that university students, who in the near future will constitute the intellectual elite of the country, should be aware of the influence of physical activity on general health, the importance of healthy lifestyle and their role in promoting healthy attitudes. However, the research showed that the students are not ready to perform such tasks, therefore the actions preparing them to lead a healthy lifestyle need to be intensified.

Objectives: The objective of this work was to study the relationship between body image and muscle strength in Spanish children and adolescents. Methods: 230 Spanish school children participated (104 boys and 126 girls), between 3 and 15 years old with an average age of 9.05 ± 3.10 years. The body image was measured by the Stunkard silhouettes. The level of muscular strength was evaluated by manual dynamometry (Takei TKK 5101 dynamometer). The statistical analysis was carried out with SPSS 23.0. Findings: Significant positive correlations were found between the current body image and the level of muscular strength of the dominant side (r = 0.182, p=0.027), non-dominant side (r=0.155, p = 0.002), and average strength (r = 0.171, p = 0.015) of Spanish schoolchildren. According to sex, significant correlations were found between body image and strength in both boys and girls. According to age, the significant correlations between body image and strength were found in the Secondary Education group (12-15 years). Conclusions: The results of this study show that muscle strength can be a determining factor in the perception of body image of children and adolescents. It is recommended to carry out intervention programs with the aim of improving strength, because this will have positive effects on the body image of the participants.

The peculiarities of the daily physical activity of the pupils of the general educational institutions of Ukraine are identified in the article. It is stressed that motor activity combines various motor actions and is defined by amount of movements performed by a person in the process of vital activity. For defining of daily motor activity it was used the methodology of timekeeping developed by scientists of Framingham State University for children and teenagers that is based on registration of human activity during a day. For defining the amount of time spent on each kind of motor activity, it was conducted a daily timekeeping of human activities: fixing of time spent on each kind in the succession as they alternated with each other. It is determined that the juveniles' specially organized physical activity makes 0,33-0,44 hrs, it is by 65-70% lower than the hygiene standards. The indices of the daily physical activity of the 11-15-year-old pupils are 31,1 - 33,49 points. The mentioned index among boys is by 0,61-5,75% higher than among girls. Index of daily motor activity among girls increases till the age of 12, after that it decreases gradually. Among boys the highest level of physical activity is revealed at the age of 13-14, after that it is observed decreasing of the results. The level of the pupils' physical activity is determined by the traditions of physical culture at school, by the available material resources, by the level of the professional skills of the teachers of physical culture, educationalists, school authorities.

This research, which had the character of a pilot study, assessed the relations between life satisfaction (LS) and one and two subject teaching, as well as LS and extracurricular sport activities of secondary school teachers of Physical Education (PE).We studied the relations within each gender. The sample comprised 42 subjects with a minimum 20 years of experience in teaching. The average age of men was 53 and of women 49,9 years of age. We assessed LS through the Satisfaction with Life Scale (Diener et al., 1985). We utilized a tailor-made non-standard questionnaire to identify extracurricular sport activities and basic sociographic data. The data was processed with the statistical relation Chi Square analysis. The LS level of the women is higher than the level of the men but there is no significant difference. Very minor differences were revealed in the evaluation of LS in relation to the teaching of one or two subject teaching. Women have a tendency to be much more active in extracurricular sport activities and sport activities that have the character of being organized. This variable does not appear to be the determinant in relation to their LS. The frequency of extracurricular sport activities and LS have a statistically significant relation for the men. We recommend to observe the LS in relation to the participation in extracurricular sport activities by using substantially larger sample of male and female PE teachers. Motivation aspect with regard to interests and workload compensation should be taken in to account.
Średnia wieku mężczyzn wynosiła 53 lata, a kobiet 49,9 lat. Wykorzystano indywidualnie dostosowany, niestandardowy kwestionariusz do identyfikacji pozalekcyjnych zajęć sportowych i danych socjograficznych. Częstotliwość pozalekcyjnych zajęć sportowych i zadowlenie z życia mają statystycznie istotny związek w przypadku mężczyzn. Autorka proponuje obserwację zadowolenia z życia w odniesieniu do pozalekcyjnych zajęć sportowych z udziałem większej liczby kobiet i mężczyzn – nauczycieli wychowania fizycznego.

Physical activity can be determined by the lifestyle, however many people in industrialized societies look for the new forms of activities. In this paper the evaluation of the chosen circulatory and respiratory parameters as a reaction to the aerobic training on the Slender Life rehabilitation keep-fit tables with light intensity and long time of duration (over 30 minutes) was performed. The examination was carried out on the group of 50 patients treated in the Sanatorium MSWiA in Kołobrzeg. During the 19 days of training the chosen circulatory and respiratory parameters such as: heart rate (HR), blood pressure (BP), the maximum volume of oxygen (V02max) by indirect method, vital capacity (VC) and forced expiratory volume (FEVj) were examined 3 times. Statistically significant changes of most of the parameters were observed. It proves the increase of physical function of the organism. Simultaneously, the positive acceptance from the patients of the applied form of trainings, confirms the purpose of participation in this form of activity.

Movement is an essential characteristic that has developed over the course of human evolution. With the inclusion of various populations in sports activities, sports have become an important part of people’s daily lives. Knee injuries are common among athletes, with knee joint being the most vulnerable to various injuries. Knee injuries require appropriate treatment to allow the athlete to return to their sports activities. Additionally, this study aimed to increase awareness of the importance of preventing knee injuries in sports and to highlight the potential impact of such injuries on an athlete’s ability to participate in their sport.A cross-sectional study was conducted to evaluate the functional outcomes of athletes with knee injuries. The study included 38 patients with knee injuries (ACL, meniscal injuries, collateral ligament injuries) out of which 21 were physically active athletes, 9 were not, but they were athletes who were not involved in sports at the time of the testing and 8 were recreational athletes. The majority of respondents (76%) reported that they sustained the injury during sports activities. Knee pain was reported as at least once a week by most respondents. The study highlights the importance of proper knee injury prevention measures during sports activities and the need for prompt and effective rehabilitation for those who do suffer injuries. Overall, these findings have important implications for the treatment and management of knee injuries among athletes and individuals seeking to maintain an active lifestyle.

Opis:
During the winter semester 2008/09, the Institute of Sports Science at the Goethe University in Frankfurt (Germany), conducted and evaluated a seminar for sports students called „Good Practice in Physical Education“. This novel teaching format was designed to link didactical skill-acquisition, in terms of situated learning, to the acquisition of theoretical knowledge, which should enhance the professional core competences of future PE teachers. In addition, this pilot seminar was designed to evaluate the usefulness of a blended learning teaching approach, i.e. online learning combined with face-to-face learning, compared to a conventional attendance format. In both the seminar formats students worked together in constant small groups (3-4 persons). The learning results and related variables were assessed using a variety of tests, questionnaires and interviews. The blended-learning-groups (a total of 70 students) had 4 attendance and 9 online sessions, whereas the attendance groups (60 students) had 14 attendance sessions only. In order to make the learning progress between the groups comparable, at the beginning of the seminar the students were allocated as to the results of a baseline test assessing their knowledge about PE. The same test was conducted afterwards to measure the gain in knowledge with regard to the content of the lectures. The ability to transfer the acquired content-knowledge into PE practice (learning transfer) was assessed by means of a poster presentation, which had to be prepared by each student group during the final phase of the seminar. In addition to the performance tests, data concerning the following variables were collected: learning environment, learning style, learning motivation, team competences. Furthermore, group interviews were carried out and videotaped, in order to analyze the effects of team work on learning performance. At present, the following results were obtained: - The students of the blended-learning-seminar gained significantly more content-knowledge than the students of the attendance seminar (p < .01). - This finding is consistent with a significantly higher appreciation of the learning environment by the blended-learning-groups (p < .01). - However, no significant difference in the learning transfer could be found.

Opis:
The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of a physical education-based stretching program performed during warm-up and cool-down periods on hamstring extensibility in schoolchildren aged 9- 10 years. A sample of 73 schoolchildren, 36 boys and 37 girls, aged 9-10 years old from three classes were clustered randomly assigned to a no-training group (n = 24), warm-up group (n = 25), or cooldown group (n = 24). During physical education classes, the students of the warm-up and cool-down groups performed a four-minute stretching program twice a week for ten weeks during the warm-up and the cool-down periods, respectively. Hamstring extensibility was estimated by the classic sit-and-reach test at the beginning and at the end of the stretching intervention program. The results of the ANOVA showed that both the warm-up and cool-down students had statistically significant higher values on the hamstring extensibility than the no-training students (p < 0.05). The warm-up and cool-down groups did not show statistically significant differences. Nevertheless, the cool-down students obtained a slightly higher magnitude effect when compared with the warm-up group (g = 0.67 and g = 0.56, respectively). In addition to the slight higher improvement during the cool-down, due to the negative effect of static stretching on performance as previously found in the literature, it seems that physical education teachers should improve students´ flexibility during the cool-down period of the sessions.

When a threat to a person’s health and life has arisen, all forces are focused on ensuring their health security. Other areas of human activity were reduced or suspended. This also applies to behaviors related to participation in a physical culture which, although it belongs to the field of medical and health sciences, cannot fulfill its offer. It is questionable whether it is rightly assigned to this group.

The aim of the article is to present the concept of cultural potential of physical culture components, i.e. sport, recreation, rehabilitation and physical education, and to emphasize broadly understood physical activity and its role in shaping attitudes and behaviors. Due to the multithreaded and multifaceted nature of the issue, the authors used the historical method, consisting in the analysis and interpretation of existing sources and literature. Taking into account the fact that from the ancient times to the contemporary, contribution of physical activity in culture has been undeniable, it must be properly supported in order to exist. The complexity of the concept means that it is impossible to summarize it with a single indicator, and the limited framework of the article requires the authors to concentrate on selected elements present in the consciousness and attempt to identify them.

Between 1 and 4 May 2015, I participated in the World Confederation for Physical Therapy Congress (WCPT) 2015 in Singapore. The Congress took place at the Suntec Singapore Convention and Exhibition Centre, and attracted 3500 attendants. In total, 572 oral reports were given and 1578 posters were presented. Furthermore, 25 focused symposia, 11 panel discussions, 18 seminars and 36 networking session were organised. The level of discussions varied. I found the reports concerning the application of new post-stroke rehabilitation methods to be the most interesting, and especially the session entitled ‘Best practice for arm recovery post-stroke: an international application’, presented by Professors Steven Wolf from Atlanta, Gert Kwakkel from Amsterdam, Mark Bayley from Toronto and Michelle McDonnell from Adelaide. At the poster session, I presented a study entitled ‘Effects of gait training with partial body-weight support (PBWS) in the early stage after a stroke – a preliminary report’ (by Jarosław Szczygieł and Józef Opara). The World Confederation for Physical Therapy brings together approximately 23 thousand physical therapists from all over the world. It was announced that the outgoing WCPT President, Marilyn Moffat, has been succeeded by Emma Stokes from Dublin. The next congress will be held between 2 and 4 July 2017 in Cape Town.

By the establishment of a special unit established within the Ministry of Education, called the “Maarif-I Umumiye Nezareti” [1] in 1871 and the reforms emerged in 1924 when the tasks of this special unit were taken by the Ministry of Education itself have triggered numerous variations on physical education teacher’s education. In Turkey it has been possible to study physical education in order to give lessons at schools since 1915, yet only male students above 18 have been permitted to these studies [10]. Between 1908 and 1920 there was another reform of physical education and as a consequence of Selim Sırrı Tarcanin’s efforts physical education at schools became much more important than before. In 1933 an institute for the education of physical education teachers was established at the college of education in Ankara, where female students were admitted access for the first time. Then, some additional sports academies were founded during the 1970’s and 1980’s. Between 1975–1976 the very first implementation of physical education in universities has been realized by Ege University through its Sports Academy. In 1982, physical education studies into the curriculum of common universities were reintegrated so that now there are 65 institutes for physical education at all of the country’s universities [4]. The candidates who want to study PE teacher’s education at universities are tested for specific criteria as their physical appearance and their basic skills in athletic games and gymnastics. If these students are accepted to this programme, they will be garanted a four-year bachelor degree including a schedule above 140 credits with the aim of being a physical education teacher [5].

Sport carries great significance in Liechtenstein and is considered to be an important social and leisure time activity. From the 35’000 residents over a third is engaged in sports clubs. In the context of the lifestyle of the upcoming generation, physical education (PE) at school is of a particular biographical significance in addition to the sports clubs. In the environment of mandatory PE classes the children and youths accumulate not only multi-faceted physical, exercise and social experience; they are at the same time obliged to participate in a minimum amount of weekly physical activities. These aspects are taking on increasing significance in the light of the current development trends in the physical and health status of adolescents (e.g. increasingly poor posture, motoric deficiencies, overweight). School sports projects are consequently promoted generously by the country. With this background, the present contribution presents an insight into the current status of PE and school sports in Liechtenstein and some current projects are presented.

In the years 2010-2012, the research survey was carried out on 480 people with or without physical disabilities. The aim of the research was to obtain information on attitudes and opinions of people with physical disabilities towards the possibility of reducing social marginalization through participation in physical culture. The research confirmed that the respondents’ attitudes towards participation of those people in physical culture were, in majority, positive. Participants of the research expressed the opinion that the feeling of marginalization of physically disabled persons would not have been so strong if there had been the possibility of an active participation in sport, recreation and tourism as well as in active rehabilitation. The possibilities of an active participation in physical activity should be inexpensive and widely accessible regardless of the year season and with providing volunteer assistance and transport facilitations.

Achievement goals assumes that govern achievement beliefs guide subsequent decision making and behavior in achievement contexts. The purpose of the study was to analyze the goal perspectives (task and ego orientation) based on personal and disability-related characteristics. Material and methods: The participants in this study were 140 people with physical disabilities (n=107 men, and n=33 women. Their age ranged from 14 to 67 years (M=35.31, SD=10.67). The participants filled the Task and Ego Orientation in Sports Questionnaire (TEOSQ). In addition following factors were put into analysis: gender, age, family status, education, occupational status, disability [congenital versus acquired], type of disability [spinal cord injury, brain palsy, amputation, poliomyelitis, muscular dystrophy and other type], type of activity [sport activities - competitive versus recreational - and any activity], type of sport [team versus individual sports], type of experience [resistance, strength and skills], and type of games [Paralympic, European, National and Sectional]). Results: Results showed that people with physical disabilities who mainly take part in physical activities manifest a high disposition of task orientation (M=3.96, SD=0.67) and moderate ego orientation (M=2.61, SD=0.82) in physical activities settings. In addition, the results revealed that personal characteristics, type of activity, and athletic experience play a small role in the existence of individual differences in goal perspectives. Conclusions: The people with physical disabilities, mainly athletes, show a predisposition towards task orientation on achievement settings in physical activities, and the personal characteristics as exercise form (competitive, recreation, no exercise), and athletic experiences effect in the existence of individual differences in goal perspectives.

Opis:
Background: Individuals chronically haemodialysized have a reduced physical ability. For around 30 years attempts have been undertaken at motor rehabilitation of this population.Aim: The aim of the work is an analysis of the course and effects of training programmes conducted during haemodialysis in individuals with chronic kidney disease.Method: A review of data bases was conducted – Science Direct, SPORTDiscus, Medline, Academic Search Complete – through the application of key words connected with the type of physical training undertaken during haemodialysis and its effects. 26 research projects underwent analysis, these being divided into three groups: non-controlled research work of the ‘before-after’ type, controlled research, and controlled research with randomization. In the two first groups a single research project was included with a heterogeneous research group i.e. those subjected to peritoneal dialysis and haemodialysis (HD+CAPD).Results: Patients were offered various forms of training. The most often was continuous endurance training on a ergometer cycle, to which were added in some pieces of research resistance training and/ or coordination exercises. In total 407 patients completed the training programmes in all the tests. The length of the programmes oscillated from 2 to 40 months. In 16 of the 26 programmes the training was conducted during the first two hours of the haemodialysis treatment. In eleven projects it lasted from 30 to 90 minutes. The intensity of the training sessions was expressed in % HRpeak of the exercise test or by means of the Borg Scale. As a result of the programmes conducted an array of benefits were achieved: improvement in physical fitness, improvement in the composition and function of skeletal muscles, reduction in the factors causing cardiovascular illness risks, improvement in the quality of life, enhanced haemodialysis affectivity. Conclusions: Physical training during haemodialysis is beneficial for patients with chronic kidney disease. Movement therapy effectively helps dialysis therapy.
W wyniku przeprowadzonych programów uzyskano: poprawę wydolności fizycznej, poprawę w budowie i funkcji mięśni szkieletowych, redukcję czynników ryzyka chorób sercowo-naczyniowych, poprawę jakości życia, zwiększenie efektywności hemodializy.

Opis:
Physical development, rate of sexual maturation, physical fitness, working capacity and general wellbeing of the organism are the main criteria of the health status of children and youth. The cross-sectional studies were organized in ten-year-intervals in the randomly selected Polish schools representing the whole nation. The studies took place in 1979, 1989 and 1999 and included children and youth aged 7-19 years. The results demonstrate the continuous positive secular trend showing more intensive physical growth and earlier maturation. These observations give the evidence of a rather good health status of the present young generation. However, changes in the level of physical fitness and working capacity of youth present the decreasing tendency during this 20-year-period. The changes in motor performance are better indicator of the general health status than the rate and level of physical development. The results of this paper show the picture of so called “opening scissors”, which means that even though the children and youth in 1999 were better physically developed (taller and heavier) than children studied in 1999 and 1989, their motor abilities were showing the gradual decrease during this period of time. The possible causes of this event have been presented and discuss in this paper.

Research indicates that university students fail to exhibit satisfactory levels of health-oriented behaviors regarding their diets, physical activity, preventive practices, alcohol and drug use, coping with stress, personal relationships and mental health. This study examines the differences in health behaviors between genders and BA majors. A cross-sectional study was conducted on a sample of 220 second-year undergraduate students, aged between 19 and 41 (M = 21.98, SD = 2.89), divided into three groups according to their BA majors: Physical Education (PE, n = 88, 40.00%), Technical Engineering (TE, n = 67, 30.46%), and Social Sciences (SS, n = 65, 29.55%). The majority of the subjects were males (n = 147, 66.82%). A paper-and-pencil self-report questionnaire, the Health Behavior Inventory (HBI), which includes four subscales: healthy habits nutrition (HHN), preventive behavior (PB), positive adjustments (PA), and healthy practices (HP) was used for this purpose. The results of the Student’s t-test indicates that female university students scored higher than males in the total HBI (p < .001), as well as in the HHN (p < .01) and HP (p < .05) subscales, with a small to medium effect size. However, the two-way ANOVA did not show significant differences between the genders and particular BA majors. Health prevention programs at universities and campuses should be focused on increasing healthy behaviors, particularly in male undergraduate students and those studying Physical Education, expected to model (healthy) lifestyles as future health educators.

Opis:
The article is about problems in increasing motive activity for children of primary school age, the aim of which is improving their health. Thanks to a sufficient amount of physical activity children of all age groups have an optimum level of health, physical development and will acquire motor skills. One of the important problems of our time is to improve the health of children. The study indicates a relatively low level of health in children of primary school age, which is associated with decreased levels of physical activity. Studies show that for children of 6 to 7 years of age the number of hours on average and high levels of motor activity tend to decrease. At the age of six 2 hours. 10 min (9,1%) are spent at the average level, 40 minutes (2.6 per cent) – at the high level, and at the age of seven – 1 hour. 7 min(7,35%) are spent at the average level, 20 min (1,05%) – at the high level. The greatest number of hours is spent at the basic level (44,5% at the age of 6, 39.4% – at the age of 7). At the age of six 88.3% of the time are given to the base and low level, at the age of seven – 91.6 %, 11.7 % and 8.4 % are given to the average and high levels accordingly, which indicates a sedentary lifestyle. The solution to the problem of preservation of health and ensuring harmonious development of personality in educational institutions is of great practical importance. In this regard physical culture, as the basis of ensuring the strengthening of children's health, has new challenges that require the development and creation of physical education system in secondary schools which provides improvement of all components in health - mental, social, physical. One of the conditions of effectiveness in the system of organization of sports and recreation activities is the introduction of various forms of work, taking into account the interests and motives of the children.
W artykule omówiono problemy dotyczące poprawy motywacji aktywności dzieci uczęszczających do szkół podstawowych. Dzięki odpowiedniej ilości aktywności fizycznej, dzieci ze wszystkich grup wiekowych mogą osiągnąć optymalny poziom zdrowia i rozwoju fizycznego, nabędą też odpowiednie umiejętności ruchowe. Jednym z warunków skuteczności w systemie organizacji ćwiczeń sportowych i rekreacyjnych jest wprowadzenie urozmaiconych form pracy, uwzględniających zainteresowania i motywacje dzieci.

Postural defects are the real blight of the contemporary world. The scientific research has shown that the more inactive and sedentary lifestyle one leads, the faster their muscular system becomes dysfunctional. It also loses the ability of active spinal stabilization, which results in postural defects, a serious 21st century problem among young generation. Postural defects are believed to be caused by the lack of physical activity. Undoubtedly, physical education and sport play an important role in prevention and correction of poor posture as in this way particular body systems are affected, which consequently can lead to the elimination of postural defects or at least to their reduction. The objective of the article is to justify the need for corrective exercise during physical education classes as well as to show the role of sport and physical activity in maintaining good body posture and in correcting the existing defects.

The aim of the research was to diagnose chosen individual factors of adolescents’ physical development (motor skills, physical fitness, motor activity needs) and their influence on their actual level of physical activity in their leisure time. The subjects of the research were students of Cracow’s junior high schools. The probability sample of 295 girls and 329 boys were examined. The method used was a survey. The results of the examinations showed that the chosen individual factors had an influence on the actual level of physical activity in their leisure time. The boys’ motor skills (in contrast with the rest of the factors) correlated the least with the increase of the actual level of physical activity in leisure time, and in case of the girls, they did not correlate at all. Youngsters’ individual predispositions to undertake physical activity in their free time were at a medium-high level. Nevertheless, their internalization did not take place because more than a half of the subjects undertook physical activities at a low level (51.0%) or not at all (7.4%).

Care for good health and high physical fitness of firefighters reduces the likelihood of them being injured during rescue and firefighting operations. The article presents issues related to the maintenance of physical fitness by firefighters, regarding the requirements and possibilities of their implementation, both at home and abroad. Recommended forms of training leading to better professional preparation of firefighters were presented. Attention was drawn to the fact that there are no legal regulations in Poland regarding the method of conducting training by Fire Brigade officers that they should perform in order to maintain high physical fitness. Instead, the principle of annual checking of firefighters' fitness applies, and it depends on them whether and how they care about their physical form.

The global COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in restrictions in most countries. One of them was to replace traditional education in schools with online learning. Such a change could provoke a build-up of negative feelings due to insecurity and loneliness. In addition, reducing daily physical activity and closing sports venues can have a detrimental effect on health. The article presents the results of the study of the impact of distance learning on the daily physical activity and condition of physical education teachers in Poland, as well as the subjective perception of physical and mental health in this professional group. Google forms were used to collect the data. The research tool was a questionnaire. The analysis showed that distance learning had a significant negative impact on the physical and mental health of the study group. The impact of distance learning on physical and mental health is gender independent. Teachers more often negatively assessed their physical and mental health compared to the studies in previous years. Daily physical activity of the subjects decreased, and most of them increased their body weight. Less than 3% of the surveyed teachers during the blockade felt happy and full of life.
