Opis:
The aim of the paper is to present a structure for nursing education simulation that incorporates elements of blended and online simulation in a socially constructivist, culturally sensitive environment. To develop the structure for nursing education, a descriptive literature review was conducted in spring 2022 on simulations implemented in mental health nursing education. Nurses require the skills and knowledge to provide mental health care in every area of health care. According to the descriptive literature review, simulation-based learning such as high-fidelity mental health simulation resulted in increased confidence, knowledge gains and improved communication skills. Simulation is a wide concept and allows nurse lecturers to implement the pedagogy as they see it best. The simulation structure helps especially beginners to follow the simulation as a process. The structure eases the planning phase as well as the debriefing part of the simulation. As it has been shown in the analysis of the literature simulation can be effectively implemented in a blended and / or online environment. It is expected that in the future, simulation games and virtual, online simulations will be more typical ways to conduct a simulation.

Opis:
Background: Nurses displayed low levels of subjective well-being and high turnover intention. How to enhance the subjective well-being and decrease the turnover rate of nurses is of great importance. However, little is known about whether work engagement mediates between character strengths and subjective well-being. The study aims to explore character strengths, work engagement and subjective well-being in nurses, and to determine whether work engagement plays a mediating role between the relationship. Material and Methods: From December 2017 to December 2018, 450 Chinese registered nurses completed the character strengths scale, work engagement scale, and subjective well-being scale. The relationship between study variables was tested by Pearson correlation. The mediating effect of work engagement was tested by the bootstrap method. Results: The results indicated the following: (1) the 4 elements of character strengths and work engagement were significantly and positively correlated with subjective well-being; (2) character strengths could significantly predict both work engagement and subjective well-being; (3) work engagement played a mediating role in this relationship. Conclusions: Character strengths affect subjective well-being in Chinese registered nurses, and work engagement plays a mediating variable among the relations. Therefore, nurses are encouraged to foster their character strengths and improve their level of work engagement for their subjective well-being. Following the results, the study recommends that nursing managers be aware of the importance of using character strengths in nursing work, taking actions to excavate nurses’ character strengths and encouraging nurses to use character strengths in clinical work to promote engagement and well-being. In the meantime, interventions to improve the level of subjective well-being based on nurses’ character strengths should be considered.

The paper analyses the development of pine nurse crop properties relative to the commencement time and length of the conversion period. The results of the measurements on 120 circular control experimental plots established according to the statistical−mathematical forest inventory and control system, repeated periodically since 1975 in Forest Experimental Station stands in Krynica were the basis for stand condition assessment. The time of inventory during which the main target species, i.e. fir or beech, appeared in the composition of the analysed nurse crops was considered the moment at which conversion began. It allowed for the division of all pine nurse crops into four groups: stands with long, medium and short conversion period, and in the period of conversion initiation.

Opis:
Background. The proper nutrition in diabetes is one of the crucial elements of therapy, but in practice, diet of diabetic individuals is commonly improperly balanced, that is associated with lack of nutritional knowledge. The nurses are also often characterized by insufficient knowledge about diabetes diet therapy and poor nutritional behaviors. Objective. The aim of the study was to analyze of the declared nutritional behaviors in a group of diabetology nurses and to compare it with declared nutritional behaviors of the control group. Material and Methods. The group of 52 nurses recruited from all the regions of Poland working with diabetic patients was analysed and compared with control group of 63 individuals – random non-diabetic patients from all the regions of Poland. They were asked about accomplishing practical recommended nutritional goals for adults in Poland and were able to indicate if they follow detailed recommended nutritional goals “always” (3 points), “sometimes” (1 point) or “never” (0 points). Results. The diabetology nurses rarely declared fish and legumes intake (never or sometimes accomplishing goal: 87%), milk and dairy products intake (75%), as well as moderate sugar and sweets intake (69%). Nurses significantly rarer than control group declared regularity of meals (p=0.0000) and diversion of meals (p=0.0000). The lack of correlation between number of years of working with diabetic individuals and number of obtained points during assessment of nutritional behaviors was observed. Conclusions. The nutritional behaviors of diabetology nurses are not good, even if they educate diabetic patients on daily basis. Nutritional education should be conducted not only in groups of diabetic patients, but also, in groups of diabetology nurses.
Wprowadzenie. Materiał i Metody.

Introduction and aim. Sub-centers (SC) are the first contact point with the community with auxiliary nurse midwife (ANM) as the instrument, delivering all the primary health care services. The SCs are under constant criticism for their inability to deliver quality services. This study assessed the preparation of facilities available at the SC to manage high-risk pregnancies (HRP) and to compare the same between rural and tribal blocks of the selected district. Material and methods. This health facility-based cross-sectional observational study was done for 6 months among 276 rural and tribal SC of the Udaipur district by a two-stage random sampling method using an observational checklist to assess the infrastructure and logistics of SCs. Data were analyzed using SPSS 20. Results. The study covered 264 (95.7%) non-24x7 SCs and 12 (4.3%) 24x7 SCs. Only one-third SCs, 93 (33.6%) were situated at the center of the village. Only 151 (54.7%) SCs had attached ANM quarters. All 24x7 SCs and 78.4% of non-24x7 SCs had adequate equipment and infrastructure. Conclusion. Most of the subcentres’ infrastructure and functional equipment was equipped to tackle HRP. Rural SC adhered more than tribal. Most HRPs were tracked and referred to higher centers. Unless we emphasize strengthening SCs, the dream of a healthy nation will remain obscure.

Recent years in Poland have been characterized by the dynamic development of scientific activity among nurses. It might have been caused by several factors, namely: the rising needs and expectations of representatives of this professional group, the necessity of adjusting to EU standards, changes in the system of education, as well as the individual “research needs” of those representatives. However, is there a correlation between the increase in the quantity of scientific research and its quality? An attempt to answer that question led the author to formulate this paper’s goal, which had been formulated as follows: to analyse different sources of information concerning the reality of scientific research in nursing in Poland.

Brain death causes irreparable loss of function of the brain as whole and is tantamount to the individual death. According to the governing laws in Poland, a committee composed of three consultants, including a specialist in anaesthesiology and intensive care and a specialist in neurosurgery or neurology, states the individual death. Stating brain death has occurred discharges doctors from their obligation to continue therapy. In the event the organs can be harvested for transplant, after ruling out the objection of the deceased and medical counter indications, medical staff continues to care for the donor during the period of preliminary observation, diagnostics and establishing brain death, and later for the deceased, until the organs are harvested. It includes all activities, from monitoring to therapy, diagnostic and nursing activities. Nurses play an important role in the team providing care to a donor. The nurse should have extensive knowledge about brain death, its course and results, as they play an important role in proper diagnostic procedure and providing proper care until the organs are harvested. Strict nursing supervision of the donor allows the staff to detect deviations in the functioning of the organism early. The aim of this paper was to present the procedures concerning declaring brain death and portraying the role of a nurse in caring for a potential organ donor at an intensive care unit. Conclusions. Proper procedure is paramount in harvesting good quality organs for transplantation and assuring their proper functioning later. It is worthwhile to note the role of the nurse in contacts with the family, as cooperation with the donor’s family is an important aspect of the process, especially the ability to conduct difficult conversations.

Opis:
In the last 45 years nurse scheduling has received considerable attention in the research community. Nurse rostering can be described as a task of finding a duty roster for a set of nurses in such a way that the rosters comply with work regulations and meet the management’s requests. The objective varies from minimizing the costs of float nurses or minimizing under-staffing to maximizing the degree to which the nurses’ requests are met. In logistics, one aspect is optimization of the steady flow of materials through a network of transport links and storage nodes, and the other is, coordination of a sequence of resources, such as staffing and scheduling clinical resources. The period up to 2000 is characterized by using mathematical programming and objective functions to solve nurse rostering problem. In the period after 2000 the focus of researches aimed at solving nurse rostering and scheduling problem becomes implementation of meta-heuristics and multi-objective functions. The aim of this paper is to present the latest researches conducted in last ten years.

ObjectivesThe nursing profession entails many stressful situations and challenges, such as heavy workload, shift work, emotional demands and professional conflicts. In the light of the results of the research conducted so far, flexible coping has occurred to be highly adaptive, as its association with adaptive struggle with the disease, fewer depressive symptoms and both greater mental well-being and better health have been proven. In connection with the above, the aim of this study was to determine the nature of the relationship between cognitive flexibility and flexibility in coping in nurses, taking into account the moderating role of age of the respondents, seniority and the sense of stress.Material and MethodsThe study sample consisted of 280 persons working as nurses (age range: 21–66). The number of women and men reflected their percentage distribution in this profession, as it is highly feminized. The following methods were used in the study: the Cognitive Flexibility Inventory (CFI) by Dennis and Vander Wal, the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10) by Cohen et al., the Flexibility in Coping with Stress Questionnaire (FCSQ-14) by Basińska et al., and a self-developed survey.ResultsAs the obtained research results show, cognitive flexibility in both the Control and Alternatives subscales was a predictor of flexible coping and their subscales. The analysis revealed that the model of the relationship between cognitive flexibility and flexibility in coping was moderated by age, seniority and the sense of stress.ConclusionsCoping skills and flexibility are positively correlated with the psychological adjustment of nurses.

The data were collected between November 2020 and February 2021 by using a Nurse Identification Form and a Questionnaire Form for Complementary/Integrative Treatment. Ethics board approval and institutional permission were obtained. Results: It was determined that 55.2% of the participants used at least one of the CIM methods, the most frequently used method was herbal treatment-phytotherapy (96.7%), and the least frequently used method was homeopathy (3.1%). On CIM usage, the having received CIM training (β=0.395), high levels of perceived danger regarding the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on health (β=0.321), high levels of perceived infection probability (β=0.249), high levels of concern about being in crowded places (β=0.187), high levels of concern about getting the infection in oneself and/or family members (β=0.262) and being at the ages of 40-50 (β=0.116) had predictive effects. Conclusions: It was determined that the majority of the nurses used CIM methods in the COVID-19 pandemic process, and they preferred herbal treatment most. To prevent a negative outcome that may potentially be caused by a CIM method that is used, it is recommended to provide nurses with training on CIM use for the COVID-19 pandemic.

Opis:
Like in every human interaction, clashes do occur among health service professional as a result of various forms of conflicts and factors. These clashes do bring about negative consequences on both the patients and the staff members, which inform the evils inherent in this ugly phenomenon. These clashes if continued unabated could lead to further damage; and this is the reason why studies have to be directed at ensuring that the level of clashes between nurses and physician is minimized or eradicated. This study therefore investigated emotional intelligence as therapeutic approach in resolving the nurse-physician clashes in Nigeria hospitals. This study adopted pretest-posttest quasi-experimental design, while a convenient sampling method was used to recruit one hundred and fifty (150) participants consisting of nurses and physicians from Adeoyo State Hospital Ibadan and General Hospital in Oyo Town Oyo State, Nigeria. The participants were grouped into two: experimental and control group. The experimental group received eight-week therapy on emotional intelligence, while control did not. Data was collected using Thomas-Kilmann conflict mode instrument (α = 0.86), while analysis of Covariance was used to analyse the four hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. There was a significant main effect of the treatment on conflict in workplace among nurses and physicians (F2,147 = 8.30; P < 0.05). Also, there was interaction effect of treatment on participants’ gender (F(2,147), P < 0.05); marital status (F(2,147) = P<0.05); and workload (F(2,147) = P < 0.05). The result of interaction shows higher mean for female over male; married over single; and low workload over high workload. Emotional intelligence training was effective in reducing clashes as a result of conflict between nurse and physician. It was recommended that emotional intelligence training should be organized as in-service programme for nurses and physicians.
